This place is run by horrible people who have zero hospitality or compassion. Our ferry from Northern Scotland because of a powerful storm. No way to get to Orkney. When I inquired about a refund I was simply told I should have known that the ferry company were issuing warnings and I should have cancelled earlier. These are not to nice people

We stayed for 2 nights here . The bar area and restaurant are large, so we sat to have drinks before we went out for dinner. The areas were quite busy for some tour buses that had people staying over, not an issue as there were nice to chat with.|The rooms were my only complaint -- just too small. The location makes easy walks to a couple of nice restaurants and a bakery for morning coffee and pastries.|Not sure if all the hotels are this size since Orkney is a small space - otherwise it was clean and quiet

(ONLY) RESTAURANT REVIEW Very large and well-heated restaurant. It took us in without a reservation, on a freezing evening when we were wandering around not knowing where to dine. And we were also lucky enough to be able to sit in a secluded, quiet area. We ate: Soup of the day (Pumpkin Soup), Slow Roasted Lamb Shank and Breaded Scampi. Discreet. Service rather slow... maybe the staff is undersized for the size of the place...?

Nice bar and restaurant. Well stocked bar and a nice concise menu to choose from. Clean and tidy throughout. Didn't stay there so can't comment on the hotel part.

Booked a table in the Orcadian restaurant. Arrived slightly early and were seated after our booking time. After a couple of minutes a waitress asked what we would like to order. I asked if we could have a couple more minutes to look at the menu and decide and were told "no, you booked to order at 6, food first before drinks", which I found incredibly rude. Especially after being seated late. The same waitress was particularly hostile throughout the evening. Food was overcooked. Was a shame because it seemed very promising.

We booked hotel based on reviews, but experience very different. We arrived at the hotel an hour before the listed checkin time of 2:00 pm. There was no one at the reception desk. After waiting about 5 minutes, we inquired at the hotel restaurant about checkin. We were told that rooms were not available but we could leave our luggage in the lobby (unattended) and come back later. We returned at 2:00 pm and about 10 minutes later were told our room was ready. When we got to our room we discovered it was a handicapped room. I returned to the desk to request another room since I did request a handicap room (see pictures). She responded that it was not a handicap room. It just had an open shower. She then stated that there were no other rooms available which was hard to believe since checkin had just started. Additional issues - there was no way to turn off bathroom light. The room was on the first floor on a walkway where you could hear people conversing. Could hear building entrance door and room doors slamming in the building.

Nice comfortable clean place with pleasant staff . Central location . Menu looked great but we didn’t eat so not able to comment . Lots of parking . Our room was above the bar so a bit of low level sound got through till around 1am. But it did not spoil our stay -would recommend :-)

Just had a 4 night stay at the Ayre Hotel. Fantastic central location to Kirkwall town centre pubs, restaurants, and cafes. The hotel and staff are very welcoming, friendly, and attentive. 2 staff members stick out ila and Aryun who went out of their way to make our stay more pleasant. Although the room was clean and fresh not only on arrival but every day there after, we only had one criticism that the bathroom needs an upgrade. We felt that the fixed shower had a draw back there was no attachment shower head to wash your hair, so things got a bit awkward having to use the curtousy tumbler in the small hand basin. A big shout out to the room service staff you do an amazing job 👏 🙌 😀. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would most certainly come back. Plenty parking to the rear of the hotel as well as a small long stay car park just around the corner.
