Ayres Rock Orkney Hostel & Campsite

We stayed one night at Ayres Rock Hostel & Campsite on Sanday and wished we had booked longer! The island is breathtakingly beautiful with quiet, endless beaches, and during our stay we even spotted sea otters and short-eared owls. The campsite itself is right on the beach with stunning views over the bay. It’s peaceful, well maintained and very clean. The showers are due for an upgrade, but Claire and Phil (wonderful hosts) are already planning this. We had a perfect evening watching the sunset, and the next morning enjoyed one of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had while travelling, Phil’s background as a chef really shows. A truly special place run by lovely people. Can’t recommend highly enough!

Claire and Phil, what a wonderful stay we had at Ayres Rock. Since leaving we have shared our happiness with your lovely cottage with family and friends. The views, the room itself was perfect. We couldn't have been happier and we are very much looking forward to coming again in the future to stay. We stayed for two nights and ordered breakfast which was bought to us in the morning. Very kindly, a small little breakfast for my toddler was also given which was very much appreciated. The cottage was one room with a bed, table and chairs, two large arm chairs, kitchen and a wet room which were all very clean. Would highly recommend staying here. The hostel is ideally situated and we found our room perfectly clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped and there’s a delightful sunroom for whiling away a few rainy hours with a book. Claire and Phil couldn’t have been more kind, and when we left behind a jumper were quick to send us an email and promptly mail it to us. Highly, highly recommended.

Nice campsite with welcoming host. Tiny shower block which will be renovated this year. There is also additional loo with view😉 I love the kitchen with the sea view. Fresh eggs available to buy. Kitchen is fully equipped with cooke, fridge, microvave, kettle etc and there are also tables to sit inside. Nice beach justvnext to campsite.

We stayed 4 nights on this little campsite on the beautiful island of Sanday. Claire met us on arrival and showed us where everyone was. Toilets, showers and a campers kitchen. We stayed in our camper so I can't comment on the hostel. It was perfect for our stay on the island. The site has stunning views as it is overlooking the sea. Everything was clean and plenty of hot water in the shower. Claire was extremely helpful and explained that they have only recently taken over and are in the process of updating the site.

Myself and my partner camped here,and had a lovely stay. The site has good facilities, great views is conveniently placed to travel about the island and the owners are nice and helpful. Will stay again!

We stayed here with our small camper. Spacious pitches and all facilities are there. Beautiful views to the sea and nice walks possible along a rough coastline. And many seabirds to be spotted. Very welcoming owners. It is a small campsite so if you want to be so lucky to stay there it will be better to make a reservation. In the evening the 4 g signal is very weak.

stayed 2 nights in sanday, the first night we wild camped and then after looking at the weather we decided to stay here for our second night. greeted by one of the owners, who was absolutely lovely. she showed us to our room and around the hostel, it was only us staying there that night so it felt like a whole house to ourselves! the facilities are perfect and the shower was great! had a really cosy and comfy nights sleep with the wee radiator in the room. couldn’t have been better, extra points for the owners being welsh! thank you!
