With my sister getting married this past weekend, finding rooms in Savannah were at a premium. And, I had my mom with me. And, no I was not going to share a bed with my mom. And yes, 90% of all BnB rooms in Savannah are 1 King/Queen only. Thankfully, I was able to score one of the last suites available in town for the weekend, and I found it at the Azalea Inn.
I had booked the Midnight Garden villa, which is pretty much a 2 room, 500 SF suite with a full kitchen- I would call it a carriage house if you will. If came with a nice king bed and a queen sofa bed. More on that in a few.
At first, I noticed that the office pretty much closed at 9pm, and at the time, I knew it would be a conflict because I had school in Atlanta that day until 4, knowing I would miss the 9PM cutoff. However, this place is all keycode/keyless, so if need be, that would have been OK.
However, we made it in the afternoon on the Friday. We were greeted by a friendly lady (who was there everytime I went in the house)- I forgot her name- gaahh. She gave us a rundown, a tour, and got us situated with everything. In the main house, she showed us the complimentary sherry by the Christmas tree (in the living room), the large dining table with treats and drinks all around, the free popcorn, and the sodas as well (I think those were like 25/50 cents). Then, we were guided to our room, which was in the back corner of the property.
It was a keycode to get in, so that was nice not having to worry about losing any keys. The room was bright, warm, and spacious, and clean too. The TV's were wall mounted and were decent sized (I capitalized on late night Netflix binges). The bathroom had a sliding door, and was separate entry. There was also a full size washer/dryer as well!
The breakfast that was included, I never had the chance to indulge (I slept in way too late, and had some weird Wendy's craving, not sure why). My mom said her breakfast was good though.
One thing I did notice though is when I came back both nights (after 9pm), I noticed the front doors were all unlocked (they instruct the guests to lock the doors behind them after they enter)- that kind of erred me, as the building was vulnerable. I get it is in a historic district, but literally anyone who wanted to wander in could have, and that's not cool.
Also, in the main house, there is a restroom. And I tell you what. It is officially the smallest bathroom I had ever been in my entire life. For a kid, probably wouldn't be a problem. For me, I was actually claustrophobic and wanted to leave the door open, but I am sure that would have been terrifying. Thankfully, I made it out alive. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself.
This is a great property and the people were friendly and the room was solid (the sofa bed was kind of hard for me to sleep on, but I am also 6'4)- with tempurpedic pillows and mattresses. It is just not having someone readily available in the main house 24/7 prevented me from 5 stars. I do get the catch 22 though, that sometimes true BnBs the owners got to sleep too, but after seeing the fact the building being open like that you would want to protect your investments (and your guests). Also note, children under 18 are not allowed.
Worth checking out though, great location with newer amenities!
