A beautiful colonial style hotel on the banks of the Perfume River. Originally, the French Governor's House, two wings have been added sympathically and in keeping with the original building. ||After booking through the hotel's website, I was sent confirmation by the hotel's guest relations manager and also details of services provided by the hotel. I booked a car transfer from Da Nang airport and two private tours: half day Highlights of Hue with Perfume River Cruise and day tour to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The trip was also partly to celebrate my travelling partner's birthday. After enquiring if there was any special meal I could arrange, I was sent the hotel's Colonial Life Book which contains many special dining options; I chose the Colonial Dinner.||Airport Transfer: problem free in one of the hotel's vehicles (2 hour journey from airport to Hue).||Highlights of Hue Tour: an excellent, informative and unhurried tour with a guide who spoke excellent English. A very good introduction to Hue. The boat departure point is adjacent to the hotel and only a few minutes walk.||DMZ Tour: a long day but highly recommended. Transport (as with Hue Tour and airport transfer) was in a hotel vehicle with the hotel driver whose driving was careful and safe. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Again, totally unhurried, the trip was taken at our pace. The highlight was the final stop at the Vinh Moc Tunnels, similtaneously a sobering and uplifting experience. The guide asked if we would like to explore some tunnels that were not open to the public. We agreed straightaway and spent several minutes navigating unlit tunnels with only our phone lights to guide us!||Colonial Dinner: on arrival, one of the staff went through the menu with us because there were some small changes due to minor dietary requirements. The actual dinner for 2 took place by the pool. It was superb. The service was faultless and the food was delicious. The hotel turned a special evening into a very, very special and unforgettable one.||My recommendation would be to book your trips through the hotel for guaranteed safe transport and excellent guides.||General comments: we stayed for 5 nights in a Deluxe River King which was spacious and very comfortable. The rooms are in keeping with the style of the hotel and to some guests that may mean "dated" but for us were just right. All the staff, without exception, were helpful and smiling (we were even advised to make sure we wore a hat and took suncream on our trips!). Breakfast was buffet style with a wide choice and, again, excellent service. We also ate in the restaurant where again food and service were superb. The pool area is large with a pool bar and plenty of sun loungers. The gardens are beautifully kept and the hotel has its own herb and vegetable plot. The bar is very pleasant with almost a Hercule Poirot feel to it.||It is only a 20-25 minute stroll to the Citadel across the river and about 30 mins to the Dong Ba Market. We also walked along the promenade in the evening and it was interesting to see all the locals playing badminton, basketball or takyan.||We also discovered the Le Cercle Sportif restaurant and rooftop bar situated just along the promenade. We made a reservation through the website. On arrival, we were surprised to find one or two hotel staff there. It is owned by the same group as the hotel and some staff rotate between the restaurant and the hotel. The restaurant is well worth a visit and I will be completing a separate review of it.||Although all the staff in the hotel were brilliant, a special thank you to Nguyet who dealt with all my enquiries before, and during, the stay. Also, when she knew we were travelling to Hoi An after our stay in Hue, she researched some things for us to do. One recommendation was the Teh Dar Show. Nguyet booked our seats and sent us our tickets (as it happened, the best seats in the house!). I cannot thank her enough for making our holiday throughly enjoyable and memorable.||To sum up, the stay here was almost as if we had been transported back in time to the days of an unhurried, relaxing holiday in a charming residence with personal, faultless service.
