The Best Wine to Drink With Chocolate and S’mores

"A cult, ultra-premium example of Recioto della Valpolicella, the 2004 Classico (375 ml, around $169) is widely regarded among the greatest of its kind. The high price reflects both the painstaking production and the producer’s storied reputation; the wine rewards patience, typically needing at least 20 years of age to fully reveal the complexities that justify its exalted status, making it a collector’s-level bottle rather than an introduction to the style." - Vanessa Price

We came to Verona for a wedding and had some time to kill the morning off. Our group of 8 newly met friends decided on this winery based on reviews and proximity to our hotels (Magioca and Moron). We showed up without a reservation and while the winery was technically closed, the father and son let us purchase a few bottles and hangout at the property (apologies for forgetting your names). The father also let us walk among the vines which just added to the experience. The winery had fantastic views and high quality wines. Looking forward to visiting again and doing a tour next time. Grazie mille!

This was the second of nine winery visits that were completed over 2 days in the Valpolicella Classico wine region. This was a tightly scheduled tour so we made reservations for the purpose of maintaining our schedule. Our group consisted of 3 but only included 2 active tasters. We seek out reds in our travels but will try other wines. There is a lot of hype associated with this winery based upon it's founder (now deceased). This was the only GROUP winery and tasting tour we booked for this trip. This winery was selected based entirely upon their "industry reputation". Huge mistake!!! Our tour host was "ok". A good grasp of the history of the winery and wine making, but answers to questions left us puzzled at times. The tasting itself was about as "bare bones" as it gets. Now, wine tasting is an extremely personal experience, but in our opinion, the wine quality was below average for the region and we would not consider purchasing any of the wines at ANY price. Amarone was NOT good! This was the most expensive tour booked for our two days, and this was the only GROUP tour! The facilities and grounds are impressive. There is absolutely NO value in a visit to this winery. Horribly over priced in every regard. We strongly recommend NOT visiting this winery - poor quality of the wines and ridiculous tour pricing. There are so many much better options in the region. If you want to learn more about Giuseppe Quintarelli (it is a good story), look it up on the web.

A Sacred Pilgrimage for Wine Lovers — Quintarelli is Beyond Words Visiting Giuseppe Quintarelli Winery is not just a tasting — it is a ritual, a lesson in humility, and a rare immersion into the sacred art of winemaking. The experience we had during our private VIP Amarone tasting was unforgettable in every sense. From the very beginning, one feels the presence of a legacy: the late Maestro Giuseppe Quintarelli’s spirit lives in every cask, every bottle, every whisper of the Valpolicella hills. This is not just a winery — this is a temple to time, patience, and craftsmanship. The cellar alone is a wonder. One could argue, half-seriously, that the bottled heritage it holds exceeds the gold reserves of many central banks — not just in value, but in cultural importance and soul. The aged barrels, the dusted bottles, the silence… all speak of decades of dedication and purity of intent. The tasting itself is a symphony of precision and reverence. Each wine is extraordinary — not just by its complexity and depth, but by the story it tells. Their Amarone is not a wine, it is a revelation — layered, powerful, and elegant beyond description. The Valpolicella, the Rosso, the Recioto… all expressions of a winemaking philosophy that is both uncompromising and poetic. The team is warm, professional, and respectfully discreet, allowing the wines and the atmosphere to speak for themselves. This is not an experience to be rushed or compared. It is one of the great shrines of the wine world, and every serious wine lover owes themselves a visit here — at least once in a lifetime. Grazie infinite. We are honored and moved.

Our private tasting & tour at this beautiful winery was definitely a highlight of our trip. Such a beautiful vineyard & the wines are incredible. Small, family owned with such attention to detail & amazing family story. We have found a new favorite winery. This is a must do on your trip!

What's there to say? It's the best Amarone in the world period. If you know you know. Amarone Riserva is from another world... 100 points!

Yelp
Quintarelli is considered the Gold Standard of wineries in Valpolicella. Beautiful surroundings and vista of the Negrar valley with an exceptional 90 minute tour of the facilities along with the history of this legendary winemaking family and sampling of 6 wines for 60 Euro that you pay for at the end--one of the wines included in the sampling was a 2017 Amarone, which sells for more than $1000/bottle at a local Miami restaurant. The presentation throughout the tour was excellent, informative and in English. The winery is a short 25 minute drive from Verona. Not necessary to pay extra to go through an organized tour company; I visited on my own after contacting them at the email below and the winery also arranged a taxi for my return back to the hotel in Verona. Highly recommend a visit. Wines available for purchase at the conclusion of the tour. vini@giuseppequintarelli.it
