"Make your home base in the charming Ponta Delgada (the modern and funky Azor Hotel is a good option for its location right by the port) but be sure to rent a car so you can do some exploring."

We stayed for 7-nights and enjoyed our time greatly. The hotel itself is very modern inside with contemporary furnishngs and comfortable areas throughout.||We enjoyed our spaciuous standard room with panoramic sea and harbour views. The buffet breakfast was more than enough for anybody. The formal evening restaurant was excellent. The "whale watching" bar on the 7th floor was great. Warm and intimate come evening time.||Staff throughout were polite and efficient and friendly. Special compliments to the efficient house keepers who were nearly always on hand if we needed some extra coffe pods. And the nightly cookie with turn down is a nice touch.||We would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Punta Delgada despite it being on the edge of town, it is still only 10-15 minute walk to the main town areas.

We stayed in October 2019 and I absolutely loved this hotel. The food in all areas was great. I loved the ice cream bar. The rooms were clean. The staff was very friendly! Beds were very comfortable! It was easy to walk to town from its location. If I make it back I would stay again!

Excellent modern hotel. Valet parking, Staff efficient and friendly. Whale watch room on 7 floor very modern, spacious and comfy…. King size with good pillows. |Great views over harbor…very swish layout ( bed facing window!) no whales seen (unsurprisingly ), but great view of cruise boats coming and going! excellently thought out bathroom… all black mirrors! |Close to centre, 10 min walk, thru back streets or seafront. some good eateries around good general location. |The ‘free telescope…. ‘ Hmmm… opera glasses would be better….:-), but not needed. |Top floor bar is really nice, great open terrace, or inside area, nice cocktails good service… but…. NB The worst club sandwich I have EVER had anywhere…. Other snacks so-so ( cold precooked chicken wings), but a good toasted ham and cheese sandwich. |Drinks yes, food no!

Octant is a nice hotel on the water front with an attached casino (which is VERY small and kind of boring, with very few people when we went). The hotel staff was friendly and the rooms were modern and clean. The rooftop bar has a really great view and a nice menu, I just wish they had it open earlier in the day. The main hotel restaurant (A Terra) was pretty decent for breakfast and dinner.

We are a family of three, and though I was looking to book several months in advance, I was finding limited availability. Octant was rather expensive at €550 per night, for a 9 night stay, but eventually I went with it given the 5 stars and positive reviews. Unfortunately, I did not feel I had my money's worth. Forget about the stars, as I have stayed in superb 3 and 4 star hotels before, but when I pay €550 per night, I do expect superb experience, and this was not. I had several issues, but will list the top 3: the first was around room cleaning; several days we would leave at 8AM, put up the "make my room" sign, only to come back around 2PM with the room not made, and most rooms on the floor having their signs up as well. I contacted reception from the first day, and was given the poor excuse that they prioritize rooms that are checking out. Since this kept happening, obviously it's a sign of being under staffed or poor operations. Second issue was around towel availability in the pool area. We went 4 times to the pool, and regardless whether it's busy or quiet, we never found available towels. The first time this happened, I went to the gym/spa area on the first floor, who told me I actually need to go to the main reception in the lobby to get towels. This is absurd, especially when you're in your swim suit and flip flops! Third issue was taxi booking. Several times I had requested either reception or concierge to book a taxi for the following day at a certain early time, to catch an activity or flight to another island, only to find out there would be no taxi waiting. Luckily it only takes 5-10 minutes to get a taxi, but when you need to leave at 7AM and pressed for time, not a great experience... Talking to locals, I was told this hotel used to be Azores Hotel, and when it became part of the Octant chain, prices went up, and services declined.

The location was great but for the price I would prefer to stay somewhere else. The bunk bed as unstable and my 10 and 11 year old barely fit it was super wobbly. The shower was not super clean and the floor was rotted under the vinyl shower pan it was Soft and smooshy underfoot. Def did not feel like 4 stars. Food was fine in the bar and the breakfast was nice. I would definitely return here again if it was around $400 per night, but what we spent did not feel like a good value.

This is a very nice hotel. Located in town close to shopping. Pool area is clean, pool bar is great. Valet parking at front door and out valet was great. A suggestion for those traveling at night from the US, because you arrive early in the morning book the room for the night before because check in time is 3:00 PM and because flights go out late afternoon they do not have the rooms cleaned and vacant for your early arrival. Our travel agent fell short on that note even though we asked numerous times if we would get an early check in.
