"You might not be surprised by an oasis in the middle of the desert, but you surely wouldn’t expect to find marshes and reed-fringed bodies of open water. However, that’s what’s waiting at Azraq Wetland Reserve, located on the outskirts of a town by the same name. The wetland is just a fraction of the size it was only decades ago, as many of its aquifers were diverted to Amman, but it still serves as an important stopover point on bird migration routes and offers the unique opportunity to see waterfowl in the desert (especially during the wetter months of December to April). Thanks to the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, which has worked to preserve what’s left of the area, Azraq also features a marsh trail through high banks of reeds and paths trod flat by water buffalo that makes for lovely hikes."

Azraq Wetlands Reserve is a peaceful and beautiful spot to connect with nature. The walking trails are well-maintained, and the diverse birdlife is a delight to observe. A perfect getaway for nature lovers and for families with kids. 2-3 hours needed for slow walk, pics and other activities in Marsh Trail.

Azraq Wetland Reserve is a must-visit in eastern Jordan, offering a unique experience unlike anything else in the surrounding. The large water bodies are a major highlight, making it a prime spot for bird watching, especially during migration seasons in September, October, and March. You'll also spot buffalos and the endangered Sarhani fish. Good for families, and the RSCN Visitor Centre provides a nice interpretation room that explains the area's rich biodiversity, along with basic but decent services. The friendly staff made the visit even more enjoyable. Don’t forget to eat some barbecue from the local vendors on the way!

What a wonderful surprising gem. Beautiful nature, peaceful and respectful environment, and knowledgeable staff. I did not expect to find such a place in the middle of the desert. We visited in autumn and even at that time of year there was still water. Our guide, Anwar, was very knowledgeable about the ecosystem and local species. The wetlands reserve is definitely worth a visit. Navigating the tail was easy and safe. The trail is mostly flat, with a few steps and areas with uneven ground. The boardwalks through the water were well maintained. The paths showed animal and vehicle tracks, and looked like they may get muddy when the water levels are higher. The displays inside the entrance centre were very nicely done. Our visit was very informative, and I left with a much better understanding of Jordan's nature and water systems. Suitable for younger children as long as they're up for a the walk. There is an outdoor jungle gym play area inside the reserve, near the entrance centre. Tip: plan your visit for the morning rather than the afternoon, in order to improve your chances of seeing more birds and possibly water buffalo.

It's in Azraq, it's land that is wet (thanks to the government pumping it with water, donate so they can keep it up), and it's a reserve. It looked nice, the wind was fresh, they have some nice native birds and animals including buffalos and different types of deer. I recommend you pay it a visit especially around 9 am where the wildlife is out and about

We had an excellent family experience at the reserve! Our guide Ja'far, was thoughtful and patient as he offered great information and entertained our curious questions. We opted for the 3km buffalo hike. Saw more than 12 types of birds, no buffalos, but that didn't take away from our experience. We had missed the peak migration season but we absolutely loved getting to spot the birds we did. Definitely worth a second visit! There's a nice playground and a small informative exhibition that plots the deterioration of the beautiful wetland over several decades. Definitely get your professional zoom lens (the ones here are my phone ones) and if you have one get a fancy binocular. I had to juggle between Merlin, binocular and camera! Instead open to just pause and view the majestic animals from the birdhide.

Beautiful place to visit with the family. Enjoyed the desert oasis that has a well maintained 1km boardwalk track that takes you through and over the oasis ponds and by the 1,300 year old Ummayad built water conveyor wall. Unique example of a diverse water rich ecosystem that exists in the middle of a very dry desert.

Azraq Wetlands Reserve Azraq / Jordan One of my favourite places to visit during the period of February to April... When the birds from around the world come, stay, breed and relax during its trip to the hot lands.. Also, alot of rare fish is found there especially the Sirhany Kind which can't live anywhere else 8n the world except there. Highly recommend for parents with kids where a family atmosphere
