12 Secluded Bungalows in Mexico for Your Next Beach Vacation

"Hidden among the the busy traffic of Tulum's beach road, Azulik presents a world of its own behind the driftwood facade. The 48 villas built between the jungle and the beach are glamorous and so is the spa’s temazcal (sweat lodge) experience, an ancient practice where soul-searchers sit in a heated dome structure. Every element of Azulik was designed with the intention of promoting and preserving sacred traditions. Each villa is dedicated to a natural theme and the use of artistic elements and materials make you feel like the hotel has spawned naturally from its jungle surroundings. One of the highlights of visiting Azulik is dining out at the canopy-situated Japanese restaurant, where you'll be served delicious food in your own private nest." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"Azulik's trippy jungle architecture is nothing short of a fanciful playground. With no air conditioning, television, or electric light, the hotel encourages you to reconnect with yourself and nature. There are many outlets to "disconnect to reconnect," from two art exhibition spaces to bespoke beauty and healing therapies at the spa that are all created through a spiritual, ancestral lens. If you’re looking to escape from reality and welcome in the woo, this should be your go-to R&R reboot."

I had an amazing experience overall! While the AC wasn’t working during my stay, I actually didn’t mind at all—I found the natural ocean breeze to be incredibly refreshing and soothing, especially at night. It made the entire atmosphere feel more connected to nature, which I really appreciated.||But the absolute highlight of my trip was hands down the massage I received from Eric at the wellness spa. I cannot recommend him enough! He has such a healing presence and truly gifted hands. I opted for reflexology, and it was one of the best treatments I’ve ever had. He was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and intuitive—by the end of the session I felt completely renewed and aligned. If you’re thinking of visiting the spa, make sure to request Eric. Highly, HIGHLY recommend!

The hotel was extremely amazing. So beautiful and truly felt like something magical made in the jungle. It feels unique and like an experience you need to have at least once even if it’s just to dine at one of their restaurants or catch one of their sunset DJ experiences. Every single detail is intentional from the art, architecture, music, scent, etc. The staff were extremely nice as well, one of the receptionists in particular really went out of her way to really make our honeymoon feel special for me and my husband. The only thing I want to mention that doesn’t bring this to the most comfortable stay is we were on the lower floor with another room right above us. You can hear people walking around very clearly above you to the point where it freaked us out in the middle of the night because it sounded like it was in our room. The bed also wasn’t the most comfortable for me personally. But my husband didn’t have any issues. Lastly I will mention that if you’re looking for privacy, you may feel slightly uncomfortable. Our room was a sea villa and neighbors can see into the room pretty clearly.

My partner and I had such an outstanding trip last October. Not only was the location stunning, but the staff really made it. ||When we first arrived we were greeted by Pamela who upgraded us to a beach front room with a hot tub on the balcony!! She was also our main contact person and was super helpful over WhatsApp. ||If you go to the beach bar ask for Frederico, he will make sure you’re taken care of. One day I was asking him if I could rent a snorkel and fins, he said they didn’t offer that, but when I arrived the next day he brought me his own snorkeling gear to use so I could snorkel around the main beach! It was so kind of him. On top of that he was always on top of making sure we had drinks, food, or what ever we needed! Best beach staff at a resort I’ve experienced. Also the lobster tacos & mango or pineapple margaritas are a must while you’re at the beach club.||At night there is usually a DJ on the roof where you can also get food and drinks. It’s a got a fun tree house ambiance! When you get drinks or food at the restaurant below make sure you ask for Gunuen. She was the absolute best! We felt like she was our friend and had many deep conversations with her. Her attitude, kindness, and energy were unbeatable! She even took us up to the exclusive mescal bar where the drinks were top notch! We also had a brief but really great encounter where Kenneth was serving us, and I asked if there was anything I could buy to soothe bug bites. He said to wait one moment, and gave us his own medicated bug bite roller ball ointment!!||Lastly, if you come here you need to get massages from Enrique and Yazmin! No if ands or buts. I have never been so relaxed in my life. They also upgraded our couples massage for free to the ocean front massage which was insanely good.||Overall, the stay and views were amazing, but the staff was even better somehow! Can’t recommend this place enough. It’s so good that my partner and I are planning to go back again soon.

Azulik. Beautiful experience. If your coming to Tulum and you did not stop at Azulik for not even one night you did not complete the full experience. From the beginning the service is welcoming and heart warming. The concierge Elizabeth very attentive and always available throughout message. The architecture on this hotel is something imaginable. The artistic design is spread out evenly throughout the hotel. Me and my spouse stayed at a Sky Villa Oceanfront and it was like being in another world. The experience of staying in the middle of the jungle and hearing the waves is something only a dream could offer. I want to point out that this villa had shower handle and also a nice bucket so you can take a shower looking at the ocean waves. Having only candles makes the night extra romantic and separates you from technology and people at same time adding a hint of romance. The food although on the pricey end very tasty. Have in mind you’re not having risotto on a street restaurant; you’re in the middle of a jungle with a very elegant restaurant overlooking the sunset. Want to thank Cecilio and Miguel for such an amazing service with lunch and dinner. I will be coming back!!

I don’t typically leave negative reviews, but our stay at Azulik was so disappointing I feel obligated to warn others. While the “eco-luxury” concept may sound appealing, the reality is neglect masked as design. The room we upgraded to had no real shower—just a handheld nozzle. There was zero privacy, the floorboards were loose and creaky (we heard every movement from the room above), and the sheets were stained. The room was dusty enough to leave both me and my wife congested with crusty eyes every morning. The outdoor area was completely unusable due to the overpowering smell of rotting seaweed. We couldn’t enjoy the porch or beach at all. I understand nature is unpredictable, but there was no warning or mitigation effort whatsoever. The food? Easily the worst we’ve had at any hotel. When I told the staff how bad it was, their only response was “we’ll take it into consideration”—no replacement, no apology, no adjustment to the bill. Overall, this place felt more like an overpriced hostel than a luxury resort. We left early and requested a refund for the unused nights, which they refused. If you’re looking for a relaxing, clean, or even remotely comfortable stay—look elsewhere.

We absolutely love everything about that hotel. We had the sea villa , which is absolutely amazing. The view, the room, everything! We had Maggie as our personal host from the hotel. She was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! she helped us with everything. We had in the beginning one room but my husband liked another room better, we asked her if we can change it, and she made it happened within minutes, she helped us with the atv rental, and with a chichen itza tour. When ever we had a question, she responded within minutes. We definitely come back next year.

Google
Booked a sky villa according to the pictures their website provided. Upon being checked into our room it was completely different than the pictures shown. They told us that all sky villas are different and you’re not promised what’s in the pictures. Their website did not describe this and I expressed this to them and they said that there’s not much they can do. They offered to move us into another room, but it would take another hour for it to be cleaned and our stuff to be brought over. No upgrade to a different room was offered, no refund, not even a comp of anything was offered. Hospitality has been disappointing across the board. Beach club staff had a horrible attitude did not check in on us once. When the bill came, they said we needed to add 10% to the tip We asked if it was mandatory they said no, but we must add it. This place is just a hype for social media pictures. Nothing else. Stay somewhere else.

Wife and I decided to spend two nights at Azulik after a 6-night stay at another location nearby.|We arrived around 11am, well before the 3pm check-in but were welcomed, given our bracelet and sent to the cleansing ceremony. We were free to explore until check-in. We opted for the couples ritual/massage that ended with a botanical bath and champagne. Also had use of the steam room and sauna prior. Awesome massage and amazing location up on the side of the cliff tucked under the rocks.|Finished around 3:30 so we went back to the lobby for check-in. We were essentially checked in already, so we were just given the room key and shown to our rooms. We opted for the sky villa (#25) which in my opinion, are the best rooms at the resort. |Room was beautiful! Yes, there was an A/C and there were a couple strategically placed small led lights throughout the room. Didn't need candles but we lit them anyway to add to the ambiance. Only found one plug near the bed which wasn't a deal breaker but a little bit of an inconvenience for the wife while using the hair dryer. Had hot/cold water in both the indoor and outdoor tubs. Indoor had a shower head as well if you would rather shower. No shower curtain so you will make a mess on the floor but nothing that a towel won't soak up. Privacy was minimal but I never once saw anyone walking on our villa level looking around. I did drape a towel over the blinds in front of the tub to give the wife a little more privacy. Neither one of us felt uncomfortable at any point. Zero privacy outside on the swing or in the tub if you opt for a "romantic" moment unless you wait for the middle of the night and have little moon light.|Beach was a miss with the terrible seaweed situation but can't fault the resort for that. Layout was nice and I can see it being super fun when the seaweed resides. No one was on the beach either day we were there. Weather was spotty so I'm sure that had something to do with it.|Navigation around the place was a little challenging since there were hardly any signs directing where to go. We were late for our first night dinner reservation at Tseen Ja since we thought it was in the front of the resort. Worked out fine since the whole restaurant was reserved for the sushi event. That was great but took nearly 4 hours to complete the 10 courses. Service was absolutely excellent though and drinks were kept full. I've never seen people take more selfies and photos of random crap in my entire life then at that event. Different generation!|Second night reservation was at Kin Toh and we opted for the chef's experience where we had no idea what would be serviced. That was excellent and I highly recommend it! 4 courses for apps, 4 for mains and 4 for desserts. Amazing!|We were planning to go to the rooftop place after dinner only to find out that its only open from 5-7 or 5-8. The host was gracious enough to escort the wife and I up there to be able to see it and take a few pics. We would have visited that first, enjoyed the sunset and then went to dinner had we known. No big deal.|Elixir was a neat little place with a great atmosphere. The green "health" drink was killer. We had multiple different tacos for lunch, all which were fantastic!|We also did the Cacao ceremony earlier that day which was pretty interesting not to mention visually amazing. Visited the museum next door which was "ok". Nice architecture but nothing else to look at.||Pros:|Place is gorgeous and well kept|Hot water and AC |Wifi worked perfect everywhere|Food and drinks were top notch|Small enough to get around in a day|Takes you out of your element (a good thing)|Nothing but respect from the staff||Potential Cons:|Minimal signage (could have used a map or an app with a map)|You're in a treehouse so maneuvering around could be tough for some. Not impossible though!|Rooftop closes early (would have been cool if this was open late and had the DJ up there)|Yes, food and drinks are expensive but worth it if you shorten your trip|Guy blowing conch shell all night was annoying (my only complaint :)|Sky villa thatch roof had a couple very small leaks in a heavy rain storm||Other Points:|Zero odors that others mentioned they experienced |Zero issues with wildlife or insects|AC's in our room didn't do much since the entire roof is thatch with several gaps along the wall line so expect a humid room. Fan above the bed was perfect while sleeping though.|The beach isn't as private as I thought (neighboring resorts with wondering kids) so you may pass on the clothing optional privilege. |The woodwork around the rooms is weathered which to me, adds to the experience. Don't expect high-gloss teak wood.||This is the type of place that you will fully get out what you put into it. If your expectations going in are that you want to be in a 5 star, wipe your butt and spoon feed you hotel for the week, you're going to be miserable. |If you go in knowing that you are essentially in a treehouse and open your eyes to the beauty and experience of the place then you will have an amazing time! Take advantage of the experience and disconnect from all the BS in life!||I think we got what we needed out of two nights, but I would like to go back again to experience the roof top sunset and the beach. ||If I had to make a recommendation, I'd opt for a full week in Tulum split between Azulik and another place.||All in all, an excellent time in Tulum and a great experience at Azulik!

Yelp
My stay at Azulik Tulum was an enchanting escape into nature and luxury, seamlessly blended together. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the breathtaking architecture and the serene, jungle-like surroundings. Pros: Unique Accommodations: The treehouse-style villas are stunning, offering a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. The views of the ocean and jungle from my villa were simply spectacular. Eco-Friendly Philosophy: Azulik is dedicated to sustainability. There's no electricity in the rooms, which enhances the connection with nature. Candlelit evenings were incredibly romantic. Relaxation and Wellness: The on-site spa provides exceptional treatments that left me feeling rejuvenated. The Mayan rituals were a unique and memorable experience. Dining: The cuisine at the various on-site restaurants is outstanding. Fresh, organic ingredients made every meal a delight. The beachside restaurant, in particular, offered delicious seafood with a view. Beach and Activities: The private beach area is pristine and perfect for a peaceful day by the sea. The yoga sessions and art installations throughout the property added to the holistic vibe. Cons: Price: Azulik is on the pricier side, which is expected for a luxury resort. However, the cost might not be justified for everyone, especially considering the minimal amenities in the rooms. Service: While generally good, the service could be slow at times. This wasn't a major issue, but it's something to be aware of. In-Room Amenities: The lack of air conditioning and limited Wi-Fi might be a drawback for some guests. The eco-conscious design means there are some sacrifices in terms of modern conveniences. Overall, Azulik Tulum offers a unique, luxurious, and eco-friendly retreat that is perfect for those looking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. Despite a few minor inconveniences, my stay was overwhelmingly positive, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a one-of-a-kind experience.

Yelp
The restaurant was absolutely gorgeous. Our group of 9 was seated right away and we didn't have reservations. The views were amazing. Great photo opportunities. However, the environment seemed very unwelcoming and expensive, geared towards a luxurious audience. The restaurant is really dim and dark. Because it was raining the entire day, the place was pretty empty. The meal was severely overpriced ($350 for 3 appetizers, no drinks). One of the most expensive places we visited in Tulum for sure. I'm not sure I would ever stay here, or eat here again, but it was cool to see just once.

Yelp
Definitely an experience and would recommend to stay here at least once in your life. There is no electricity, we'll you have 1-2 outlet but other then that it's candle lighting, a tub with a coconut shell to scoop for water, no tv, it's like living nomadic however boho style and we loved it! The beach was amazing, as well as the beach service. The bell boy will carry your bags to your room since everything is made like a tree house. The roof top bar was insanely beautiful. Wish we spent more time there. There's 2 restaurants which absolutely gorgeous and one where you had to walk across by a bridge. Enjoyed every moment of it! 2 days would be enough, 3 days we got tired of not being able to see in the dark and it was away from the hectic crowd, which we had were trying to party. All in all great vibes

Yelp
Reviewing the yoga class at the Azulik Spa. We had Sergio as our yoga teacher and it was an unforgettable experience. It is on the pricey end but the experience is worth it. Sergio talked about being present and I wont forget his take on how worrying about the future is robbing us from the present moment and distracting our selves from our own life. The class was wonderful. Highly recommend it.

Yelp
Wow! Absolutely wow! Such a beautiful and stunning resort with amazing rooftop bar! It is expensive and they do charge to get in so be aware, but completely worth the money! We went for the rooftop bar which opens at 5pm and closes at 8pm. We paid $50+ each to get in which included one beverage. To get to the top does required climbing two series of stairs. If you're a tall person just watch for your head. Overall, the view is stunning and probably the best vibe out of all Tulum in our opinion. It was super chill and relaxing. The drinks were delicious! I panicked a bit due to the height and suspension ropes and seating area but it is totally worth it! If I would love to stay hear next time for sure. We went on a rainy day but I would recommend coming in at 5pm to see it both the daylight and after sunset.

Yelp
Celebrated my girlfriends birthday here. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately there are far too many negatives to outweigh the positive. The only positive being the views at sunset. Don't expect too much here. The rooms don't have lights, there are only one outlet in the room and no showers. Only a bath. This could be viewed as the whole Mayan jungle experience, or simply a hotel that's saving a ton of money on not providing electricity and water for their guests. One of the main reasons for my one star rating, is the lack of integrity from their staff. My girlfriend forgot my ear pods inside the room on the bed. She remembers exactly where she left them. Next day after realizing we forgot the ear pods, we check the location of them, and we see that they are now in playa del Carmen. Awesome. A hotel of this caliber, if this price should do a better job screening their employees and have a strict lost and found policy. Now to the restaurant... I should of listened to the other reviews. ABSOLUTELY over priced and nothing I ate was good. It just was not good. One of the appetizers was literally baby corn from a can wrapped in some sort of leaf, sprinkled with cheese, and they charge over 100 dollars for a few pieces of can baby corn.... How insulting. My main dish was a piece of fish, that was chewy and extremely cold. Overall paid over 700 dollars for a meal for 2 and was so unhappy with this experience. Extremely disappointed, will most definitely ever return. Look elsewhere, Tulum has so many nice restaurants with delicious food that isn't over priced. Forgot to mentioned, this was my girlfriends birthday, for a $700+ dinner, look at the picture she got for her birthday at the end. What a complete joke. You get better treatment at Olive Garden or ruby Tuesday. HARD HARD pass on azulik hotel and restaurant, TRUST me.

Yelp
If I could give Azulik a 10 star review I would; it's simply magnificent, magical and my very favorite place to visit in the world as of today! Karen, my Angel made my visit so easy! She is just a text away to help you with anything that you want or need from ice to reservations. It's such a different experience and very unique! Two days minimum to enjoy everything that they have to offer. 4 days would be perfect. The Nest is a spiritual experience for watching the sunset; absolutely stunning! The beach has comfortable beds, swings, lounge chairs and a bar. There are three amazing restaurants. Room 34 is lovely! My only complaint is that the restaurants charge you $11.00 for a bottle of water! The water is free in the room so it doesn't make sense to pay such a ridiculous price for it on the beach or in a restaurant.

Yelp
My group of ladies and I did the yoga session through this establishment and it was a wonderfully relaxing experience. We walked on this slightly uneven path of wooden logs to this huge dome. Our instructor was so patient and kind. The yoga session was the perfect touch to a vacation. The physical stretching and the mental calmness was well needed, especially in this world of constant demands. Part of our yoga session included putting some type of clay on our face and body. We then went down to the beach, closed our eyes, and just listened. It was so satisfying to just breathe and free our minds with the sounds of waves in the background. After that, we went in the water and washed off the clay. We got kind of wet but we were completely okay with that. Then he walked us back to the dome to retrieve our items. Before we left, we used their showers so we could get dressed and go to our next destination. Unfortunately the water didn't get that warm, and they don't have face towels, just the big dry off towels. So that was a challenge but we made it work.

Yelp
Doing yoga in Azulik Tulum is an absolute dream come true! Let me tell you, this hotel is like no other when it comes to its stunning architecture. The moment you step foot inside, you're transported to a world of pure beauty and tranquility. The way the natural light filters through the intricately designed wooden structures is simply mesmerizing. It's as if the entire place was specifically crafted to harmonize with your yoga practice. The serene ambiance and breathtaking views of the surrounding jungle create the perfect setting for finding inner peace and rejuvenation. Azulik Tulum truly is a happy yogi's paradise!

Yelp
Came here with a group of 13 during a recent family reunion. The place is super cool, definitely an Instagrammer's Dream. But be warned, it is expensive! Cost $70 USD just to get in. Drinks are around $17-$20. While you're waiting to get in, check out the cool little boutique shop downstairs. Oh and if you're 6ft or taller, watch your head going upstairs. Definitely a place to see and be seen. Great vibe, check it out!

Yelp
I left a google review and here I am for yelp. To warn everyone, there was a snake crawling on the bathroom column in the room. As you have seen plenty reviews, there was no light. The whole bathroom was lit by a candle, very dim. I looked up at the ceiling then I kinda saw something moving but I was not sure cause there was no light. 10 seconds in I realized it was a fucking snake. I panicked like there was no tomorrow, called the front desk and they came in 10mins later. If I didn't spot the snake, it could be in our suitcase or even our bed!!!!! When they were trying to catch it, the snake started to craw out of the ceiling towards the room!!! Me and my friend left Azulik in the middle of the night, traumatized and terrified. Azulik didn't pay for relocation nor refund our night. I was told this is what it is gonna cost you if you live in the jungle. Customer safety was never their priority. Room was not engineered or enclosed that's the reason snake was able to get in. No one would want this for this their vacation. Too scared to take pictures when they were catching the snake but here is their response.

Yelp
I visited this hotel only to go to the Sfer-Ki while my friends went to the resort spa. The space was lovely, but much smaller than I thought it would be. It was extremely hot and humid and I was sweating the entire time. I paid around $10 (usd) to stay as long as I wanted. You must take your shoes off when you arrive and the you can walk about freely. The place is nice to see, but it mostly a photo op.

Yelp

Yelp
Yes this place is old for th ambiance and the sunset experience. The elixir drink was really good however I didn't get to enjoy it due to my date liked it more than I did. I didn't try any of the food so I apologize I'm no help when it comes to that however, it's definitely a great date place to enjoys a great date and /special occasion.

Yelp
The food, the views, and the cute instagramy uniqueness of this place make it amazing. However, the high price for a room without AC (only a loud fan over the bed), the tiny bathroom (where you must take a bath with a small coconut that is used to pour water on your head), and the cramped room space make my score for this review go down. Overall, this is the type of place I'd visit for a day just to see the cute tree house look. The room amenities (or lack of) leave me not recommending people to stay here.

Saloni K.

Yelp
Gorgeous resort in the Tulum beach area. It has a rainforest feel with woods all around. We came here for a yoga class at their spa. The yoga room was the most zen place I've ever practiced. Sergio, our teacher was patient, calm and excellent. We loved the class! I wish they didn't have strict rules for guests who aren't staying at the resort as we would have loved to checkout out the rooftop bar and other spots inside. I'd recommend the yoga experience.

Yelp
A nice experience while visiting Tulum. We rented a nest for the evening. The nest was different to dine while enjoying the views in the area. It also a nice spot to take some cool pics Our service was good. The menu was a little confusing to me but the waiter advised me of some nice options. I ordered the lobster tempura, duck ramen and a lemon like ice cream cookie dessert (I can't recall the exact name of the dessert but it was good). Tseen-Ja and the other restaurants are popular locations for not only the food but perfect Instagram worthy pics. To rent the nest is pricey plus there is a food & beverage minimum when you reserve the nest. Again, for the experience I would suggest going and indulging yourself. **Still thinking about the delicious duck ramen.

Yelp
The only thing about here that is amazing is the pictures which is the main reason my wife wanted to come. The food we ordered was good, but it was fufu shishi type dinner meaning very small portions with exorbitant prices. I despise having to go to an expensive dinner then after dinner going to a local spot to complete my meal because I'm still hungry. I got the lamb rack which was really good and the risotto appetizer also very tasty. Since it was my birthday they gave me a complimentary......drumroll please......small piece of chocolate and tiny 2 slices of strawberry and I mean tiny. I will say the tiny piece of chocolate was tasty though. I will say come here definitely for the pictures and if you have a semi-full stomach.

Yelp
Healing service and great hotel angels. The spa is my favorite. Don't think twice just come heal.

Yelp
This place has an amazing atmosphere and architecture. The food was okay. The main reason to come here is to take pictures with the cool tree house vibe and awesome views. The restaurant is high end, so prepare to spend some big dough. The food was cooked well and had good flavor, but lacked a wow factor that is expected from a high-end restaurant. The alcoholic drinks were very delicious and there was a good variety. The staff members were nice, overall. However, for an upscale restaurant, I expected better service. Staff forgot a plate and spoon for a member of the table on two separate occasions. Also, I did not like how the table was cleaned when a new meal arrived. It should have a happened before food was set on the table.

Yelp
This was my 3rd time on vacation in Tulum and for this trip we figured we stayed at Azulik for two nights and it was a different experience this hotel details are insane and if you love talking really nice photos this is the place to stay , it's a quite hotel and pretty expensive so it's not much going on but it's great for photos ... Only thing I didn't like the rooms don't have Air conditioners and I'm the type that love to sleep in a nice cold room , note you also can't wear shoes in the rooms which was different but over all it was a dope experience and I would highly recommend at least staying one night here if your visit Tulum....

Yelp
Ok honestly 3.5 stars. This place is so beautiful, it is legit a tree house. BUT!! This means the floor is shaped and built like twigs. You have to watch your step, which would be fine but the lights were sooooo dim. I do not recommend wearing heels, coming from experience. Then, our table was on the floor. We had chairs with no legs, the aesthetic was cute, but we were not prepared. We were all wearing dresses and heels, and it was a real struggle to get up and down let alone walk. We could hardly see anything, even the lights in the bathroom were off. The service and food was immaculate, the drinks were ok, but the light made it so hard to deal with that. I just can't give it any more stars

Yelp
So if you want to spend an exorbitant amount to take Instagram pictures, yeah you can do it here. But what do you do after that? -Sit in what was previously a hot tub, but now just a weird tub on your balcony with dirty, cold water that's only 1/2 full - Go to a roof top nest which is cool, but if it rained in the past week your seat is wet - sit on your balcony, if it has rained in the past week it's gonna be wet - watch your significant other stumble around on stick walkways - get you energy cleansed by a lady in sweatpants who clearly has had more than enough of her job - work out a bathroom schedule in your villa, since it's a stick room in the corner - sit on the bed under the only fan - stare at the ac unit in the room that's not hooked up yet - go look at the cool architecture they've built - drink on the beach and see the rusty mattress exposed from the cover that doesn't quite fit the day bed it's on -dig around your room at night looking for stuff in a room lit by 5 small candles It's a cool place, but don't do it just photoshop photos after your trip and act like you were there. There's better eco resorts (Pepem Eco Resort) where you get a great experience.

Yelp
After following this place since the creation of Instagram, I've been obsessed. So, we booked 1 night in the least expensive room (which was $600) for the middle of our Tulum stay. It had rained for the 2 days prior to our arrival so, sure, some stuff is gonna be wet. But the first thing I saw when we waited at the beach "bar" for our room to be ready was a 1/2 covered, rusty old mattress hanging off of a "bungalow.." which they asked us if we wanted to lay on. LMAO! What?! We're pretty easy to please, so we opted to sit on the ground on the still absolutely soaked, but fully covered (likely dirty and rust stained) mattress in the sand and had some sub-par frozen drinks while we watched children frolic in the 20 ft of ocean shoreline at our no-children-allowed resort. We were then taken to our room, where - wow! A beautiful balcony! With a hot tub! Oh wait - no, just something that used to be a hot tub that was 1/3 full with dirty rainwater. But, we WERE encouraged to bathe in it. Hard pass. I did get pictures in the "museum," which is overcrowded with wanna-be Instagrammers and got a nice photo. We did enjoy watching ourselves and others also try to walk on the slippery, uneven wooden bridges. HOLD ON TO THE RAILINGS. oh and, don't wear heels. Not even thick ones. But - for those who do - they make for wonderful people watching. Aside from that.. what else? Oh, I had to lock him out of the room just to use the "bathroom" because it was just a glorified toilet in the corner of our room, 2 ft. from the bed, with the only separation between you and looking your partner in the eyes while you pee is widely-spaced sticks (you can definitely see each other). Maybe this is what they consider to be an intimate experience? The lack of fans in this room is laughable. The only fan in the room is an industrial fan hanging from the ceiling inside your bed curtain. Neat. My "birthday surprise dessert"... well, I'll just leave you a picture here. Couple of leftover berries and some crumbs thrown halfassed onto a plate. The night prior, we stayed at an Airbnb called the glass house, which was insanely amazing, and then here - My boyfriend was so traumatized by how bad this overpriced motel made of sticks was that he didn't trust the rest of our Airbnb's would be good. Now, as we sit in our absolutely stunning jungle hut at the Pepem Eco Resort after our private and insanely delicious dinner where they gave us a special 100% organically made tequila made especially for their resort to sip after our meal, his (and my) faith in good and beautiful places to stay in tulum has been restored! Just... just don't stay here. Save your money and stay 3 more days at way more beautiful places. Don't be like us, sipping a pitcher of the most delicious piña coladas we've ever had in our beautiful hut in the jungle, looking back and writing a review on this place so that hopefully nobody else makes this same mistake and stays here.

Yelp
Got the miso ramen here, tasted like dog water. I'd rather eat shin ramen at home. If you pay $82 for ramen, that shit better be Japanese god's cum as broth... but what you get here is nothing even close. If you have awful taste in food, but a strong desire for atmosphere... well then you found your place.

Yelp
Nestled in the heart of the mayan beach of Tulum, Azulik is a one-of a kind resort everyone must experience when visiting the city of Tulum. Its bird type of nest designs will inspire you when visiting. When I visited Azulik, I did not stay in the resort, however, I did grab lunch with my girlfriends. We entered the resort through a bird nest type of paved way that leads up the restaurant. While walking up, we were greeted with a spiritual ritual type of experience and were led up to our table. I ordered octopus and my friends ordered other items in the menu, which were all great selections. My overall experience in Azulik is a 6+ stars (if I could). The service was fantastic and fast, the views were exquisite, the food was beyond and artistic. I will definitely come to Azulik during my next visit in Tulum.

Yelp
Food was great but the service was out of this world! Jacobo is the best server I've ever had, he was pleasant, attentive, and truly kind. The world needs more Jacobos

Yelp
I have been coming to Tulum and Azulik since I was a child. Tulum is changing very quickly and is becoming too dangerous for tourists. We were at the beach bar at azulik and the staff is friendly w drug dealers that constantly ask if you want cocaine, molly, weed. I asked the staff to please ask them to leave us alone and the staff at Azulik did not help. Finally I was in the bathroom (I am a woman) and the drug dealers came in the bathroom and refused to leave. An old man got involved and said we are not interested in your drugs, leave her alone. When I asked for the manager nobody came. Azulik is not safe. It's so sad because I used to love azulik. Not safe there anymore. The old man and his entire family and our family had to pack and move to another hotel because we didn't feel safe. The police came but not sure if they did anything. The saddest part, Azulik did not call to see if we were ok or anything. It's supposed to a sacred place where you become part of a "tribe" of people that lead their lives with love and peace. I don't know what happened to azulik. Breaks my heart

Yelp
We aren't staying at the hotel part of Azulik, only ate at the restaurant. The decor, ambience, structural design was amazing. I've been to my fair share of restaurants with a reputation, theme, well-thought out design, but this was pretty impressive. The treehouse dining experience is not one to miss. That said... the food was meh. For a family party of four to have a $400-ish bill USD, sorry, it better be better than meh. The grilled shrimp in a poblano sauce was hands down the best meal. We also ordered two streak and potato plates, a fish of the day plate, a couple salads and desserts, few cocktails... and it was satisfactory. The decor and design though, along with stunning jungle views, was worth it. I might return to get just cocktail though next time.

Yelp
We originally had a dinner reservation (made over a month ago) for Kin Toh. After waiting in line to check in for 25 minutes, the hostess informed us that they changed their menu to a prefixed menu ONLY, which was $195 USD per person, which included 3 courses and no alcohol. No exceptions. I checked the online menu again today AND the confirmation email I received a day before our reservation, and there's no mention of a pre fixed menu and the prices of the individual plates are still listed online. So many people in line (including our party of six) turned around and instead were ushered to Tseen Ja, which must have been completely empty considering they could accommodate all of us. We had to wait in line for another 30 minutes to be seated and sat at a tiny table meant for 4 people. My guess is Tseen Ja has been slow, and so Azulik decided to make up this fake overpriced menu to encourage people to eat there instead of Kin Toh. This is extremely unethical, a complete bait and switch. People plan for over a month to eat at Kin Toh and it's extremely rude to not give any notice of a change from a regular menu to an almost $200 pp prefixed menu! This is my second time visiting Azulik, and I will never go back. I would not recommend visiting either.

Yelp
Our nights there were ruined by a hurricane. Hotel front facing the sea destroyed. I was not offered a refund - we never stayed - instead given a credit to return. So, plan my trip over seas again??? Because a natural disaster occurred. Lol Okay!!!!!!! So, I request extensions to my 'credit'. Finally I get tired of playing this game and tell them to just refund me. Why should I pay for flights and cars to come back here AGAIN so I can take do a re-do of my trip to Tulum. This time, they tell me my CREDIT has expired. This place has crooked practices. If they behave like this with guests who NEVER made it to the hotel how do they behave with guests who are actually there ? Beware! Bad business practices are the norm with this hotel. Worst experience ever. Oh and thanks for stealing my $3000.

Yelp
Well not really sure where to start from but it's a hotel you will need to stay at even if it's for just one or two nights. You have no lights or tv . They come and turn on the candles for guests at night . Basically you are in a very big treehouse. It also gets very dark at night .

Yelp
They're only getting 2 stars because of the jungle vibe. Otherwise they'll be getting a 0!! Service SUCKS! Rooms have issues, we had to move 3 times during our 4 night stay! I've been to Bora Bora and food was nowhere near as expensive as here. It is an over-hyped place and not worth the price! We ended up going outside of the resort to enjoy our stay at Tulum.

Yelp
This place is all about the aesthetics and IG worthy pics. In order to be able to visit Azulik, you either need a reservation at one of their restaurants or you'll need to stay at the hotel. You can make reservations on 7rooms and I recommend making them in advance since they fill up quickly. If you come before sunset, you'll be able to take better quality pictures since the hotel doesn't have electricity!

Yelp
This is hard to review. We only went to the bar, but WOW!!! This place is amazing and beautiful. The staff were very friendly. The bar/restaurant were changing from lunch to dinner setup, but let us stay and even took us around on a tour of the place. We did get to go look around at the yoga studio/retreat area and it was unbelievable. We did not get to the hotel, but I have heard it is one of a kind incredible. I cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Kin Toh: If you are on a tight budget for Tulum this probably isn't the best place for you. I went in with low expectations since everyone was saying the food was not good. I feel like my experience couldn't have been further from that! The view and the whole vibe inside is something out of a movie. We decided to rent the a nest and it was so worth it for me. You get the best for 5 hours but there is a fee. I believe it was $500 but you split it with the table. We ordered some apps and got the risotto....get the risotto. My main was the gulf shrimp, wasn't bad at all. I would recommend this place to anyone going to Tulum if they are looking for a one of a kind experience.

Yelp
Beautiful place, nonetheless! I dreamt about a place, and this was it! Buuuuuutttt they are not up to pair to their prices, I read their reviews and yeap, pretty much the same. My cons *The whole no lights in the rooms is pretty annoying, specially when you want to get ready to go out and you can see at all! *The service is pretty bad, from the reservation I had issues with them, it got better after I pushed but honestly they got me pretty stressed out so :/ Once there, it's luck I guess lol but go with low expectations *They had a promotion of pay for 2 nights and get the 3rd free but it turned out only on some of the rooms not all which was nowhere specified so that's where the fight began, once there we got an upgrade (you could tell the place was not full) after maaaany emails and phone calls (emails took like 2 weeks to begin responding) but they told us it was a gift (the receptionist) al thought we already knew about this and the why lol * No grace period with included breakfast so you better be on time (it was the best meal tho! So worth it) * No having a shower was annoying too *Dinner was expensive and not amazing *Offered covid test for $100dlls ( LOL we took a self test for $35 for both) *Parking is far far away, so we heard and in that heat! I'm glad we didn't have a car *Service was slow, we ordered more candles for light and it took a couple of calls Pros: *Included breakfast was amazing! *The rooms are GORGEOUS *Free entrance to their museum which there was no info about this on the website (no guests is $25 dlls) *We got a partial ocean view and that made the whole thing worth it! *Free yoga for hotel guests at 8am (didn't make it but it's pretty cool they offer this) *Facials we're amazing ($$$$ tho but I think it was worth it!) * Free drinks at a nest at the Sunset Experience (nom guests pay for this) and amazing view, they also offered appetizers *Bottles of water included (not so eco friendly tho, they were small size so we needed a lot, specially with that heat) *We had Iguanas visiting in the morning and watching the sunrise *Beach is small but pretty cool vibe and included the beds where we ordered food and it was a Great too, dinner was the only let down I would go back, yes! Not for more than 2 nights at this hotel tho and I would only go on low season and at a lower rate night

The view was magnificent!! I had a great time on the cocktails and Pachamama ceremony. It was an amazing experience. The restaurant tseen ja was very good a little bit expensive but again the place is so beautiful that it was totally worth it

Yelp
Our highlight in Tulum! Our waiter, Mauricio, made the whole experience! All praise to him and the kitchen! Incredible views with birds dancing and amazing food. Couldn't have wished for a better birthday dinner with my wife. We both did the 5 course tasting menu. Thank you, Mauricio! He went above and beyond for us (and also looks like my favorite professional skater Neem Williams) and he even saved us from the mosquitoes that came in for about 10 minutes after sunset. BY FAR the best waiter we had while in Mexico! We did have an unpleasant experience with the hostess who was unable to refresh her iPad in order to find our reservation. She asked to step aside and I unfortunately had my backpack lit on fire by Azulik's tiki torches and burned a few holes into my new backpacked. Really felt like that could've been avoided and spared the embarrassment if she was able to find our reservation...makes for a funny memory though (and also a ruined backpack).

Yelp
Super cool experiential museum on the beach areas of Tulum. It was super cool to see the architecture here, and though we didn't end up eating in the restaurant it was still cool to see the (small) museum. So many picturesque pictures coming out of this museum for sure.

Yelp
Beautiful design - awful service and especially awful food at their Japanese restaurant. I would not come here again nor expose my organs to this awful food. Greasy, poor taste, on and on... We tried the 7 course meal with to try various options and man o man... all (not even one) tasted bad and very unhealthy. Restaurant name in the hotel: Tseen Ja Avoid - although stop by to see the view.

Yelp
TLDR: This was the WORST experience at any hotel I've ever stayed at, including those that are much much cheaper and do not advertise themselves as luxury hotels. Definitely do not stay here as you will run the high-risk that your special experience will be turned into a stress-filled nightmare. Me and my friend came to Tulum for a week and we decided to first stay at Alaya Tulum, a hotel down the street, which was an amazing experience. However, we had also wanted to experience Azulik considering its villas are world-renowned and the beauty of the hotel all-in-all. Considering the very high prices, we chose to only stay one night and booked the sea villa. The morning that we were planning on checking out of Alaya and into Azulik we got heard reports from the news and from Alaya's front desk that Hurricane Grace was going to hit that evening and they would be evacuating guests to their sister hotel downtown. Concerned, we called Azulik at 11am before leaving Alaya to see if they were doing the same, in which case we could cancel and not have to pay so much for a subpar experience. They assured us that the hurricane was not concerning enough for them to evacuate any of their guests. On that promise, we got in a taxi and headed over. Then, for further assurance, we asked the front desk when we arrived at 2pm to double check that we would be able to stay in the room and we wouldn't be evacuated. Again, they assured us they would not. We were escorted to our room, which was stunningly beautiful, but that was the extent of the pleasurable experience. This is when things quickly started to spiral downhill. They provided us 2 complimentary drinks that could be ordered as room service. So, to start off the experience, we decided to order them right when we got settled in. As me and my friend both do not drink alcohol for religious reasons, and moreover I myself am allergic, we explicitly mentioned that we wanted the drinks virgin, and explained that this meant no alcohol because we both don't drink. After getting confirmation, we began talking and waiting for our drinks in the room, making sure to not leave and explore the hotel because the drinks could come at any time. 30 minutes later we were still waiting, so we called to check in. They said that the drinks had not been started, but that they would get on it right away. It was not till 1 hour and 15 minutes later that we got the drinks. I took one sip and immediately recognized the alcoholic taste and spit it out. We were furious. What kind of drink takes over an hour to make and how could A LUXURY HOTEL be so careless as to not follow allergy and religious instructions. When we called the waiter back, he repeatedly questioned us and was adamant there was no alcohol. Not only did they make a mistake, but they refuse to own up to their own mistakes, and then after all that the waiter asked for a tip to bring us new drinks??? Another HOUR later we received the new drinks, which very clearly tasted different because there was no alcohol. Albeit the drinks themselves were still not good at all. Furthermore, we ordered a tres leches cake without rum and had to wait 1 hour to get it and another half hour for us to track down the waiter to ask if they were sure there was no rum. We had to physically track him down because no one in the hotel responds to WhatsApp messages or calls. The worst part is they will read the message and completely ignore it. THEN, at 4pm we get a text saying we need to have everything packed and ready to evacuate into their on-site museum in the next 30 MINUTES because of the hurricane. Not only that, we would be sleeping on mats on the floor, alongside all of the other guests. AND THEY WANTED US TO STILL PAY THE $1,200 FOR THE NIGHT. Are you kidding me?!?! We checked twice with them to make sure this wouldn't happen. How irresponsible could they be. So we asked if we could be given an extra night in the hotel to accommodate for this, especially considering they had told us the hotel was not at full capacity., Their response was no because the weather is not under their control. As if it is under ours?? In response, we asked for a refund and we would just leave right then to find another hotel in downtown. Because, furthermore, how safe is an on-site museum when it is still right next to the beach which is the most dangerous area during a hurricane. Our request for a refund was continuously ignored until we went to the front desk and threatened to call our credit card company and request a charge back. And even after another TWO HOURS of arguing with the manager, we were told that he had no authority to conduct a refund. We would have to wait till the next day when their "reservation specialist" could help. The manager kept telling us that the hotel did not have cash to give us. Yelp
Good for the views only! This was an extremely funny and crazy trip. If you can't stand to take only salty waters don't waste your money on this resort. Let's star with the hotel. Air conditioning it's very poor, power runs out for multiple hours in occasion and it's impossible to stay anywhere in the hotel. You won't get a drink under 25$, the food quality it's not good but it is something you can swallow with alcohol. Beaches are filled with seaweed, smells like rotten eggs. Restaurants are way overpriced, and to have a view of the nido, or enjoy a drink there you'll have to rent the station for 800/1000$ for dinner just for the tables. Regular restaurants are 2 which you can have dinner they don't have air conditioner in none of them. One it's standing on a structure that moves when the wind hit. So me and my partner we were shaking with the structure while having dinner. So we decided to move to another structure with it was a sauna not a restaurant. We spent 500$ on a dinner and it was not worth the price. Hosts are rude especially the one in the Mexican restaurant. She won't give up a table saying there were reserved while the restaurant it's empty'. The things I did enjoy was.. - the quietness in the room. - the walking I did around the hotel and met numerous animals. - I liked the jacuzzi in the villa in front of the ocean. Oh and last DO NOT RENT A MOTORCYCLE NEXT TO AZULIK. THE RENTERS ONLY HAVE MOTORCYCLES WITH EXPIRED TAGS. SO IF YOU DONT WANT TO GET PULL OVER BY POLICE AND GET TOWED AND LEFT WHATEVER YOU ARE DON'T RENT ANYTHING NEAR THIS HOTEL. Go to the center. YOUR WELCOME

Yelp
So my girlfriend and I went on a Cancun/Tulum trip. She wanted to stay at Nizuc and Azulik mostly around the instagram hype. Nizuc is 5 stars incredible all around resort. Let's break down the amenities and my 4 night stay at the much anticipated Azulik resort in Tulum. The Pros: -Staff is friendly and helpful. -It's fun initially to walk around the jungle resort and sky bridges. -There's a handful of spots around where you will want to stop and take a picture. -The spa and little Mayan temple is going to cost you a lot to get into, but it's a beautiful little spot and worth it. I had an excellent massage. I think you can get into the temple by doing yoga in the morning, so definitely do that. -There's a museum that's a big room that takes couple minutes to walk around, has a skylight for a cool photo op. The Cons: NO PRIVACY. Two of the walls of your small villa are glass. For some wildly strange reason there's no blinds to your room. So if you want to get dressed, walk around naked, or be romantic, you'll be seen by your neighbors or anyone walking by very easily. If you step onto the little deck you can just see your neighbors in their room plain as day. If you're so bold you can actually wave at them while their naked in the bathtub, which is in the center edge of the room by the glass wall. Maybe having no privacy is a draw, personally I'm not a fan. THE SKY CABIN. It's actually just a clever way to say the 2nd floor. There's no insulation so you will hear every footstep, bathroom visit, and sneeze of all your neighbors. The bathtub has salt water coming out and a cheap showerhead that barely works. 1-STAR DINING. There's a reason the breakfast is free, it's awful. The eggs benedict was a torched egg on a burnt piece of toast. The scrambled eggs taste like they make a big batch once a week and reheat them in the microwave. The bacon and sausage was burnt to a crisp and stale. The expensive restaurant has barely a menu, only 2 beers to choose from, and the cocktail menu is sparse. I wouldn't eat at the main restaurant if it was delivered to my house for free on DoorDash. The Japanese restaurant we had an appetizer, sushi roll, and drink and that place is pretty good. THE SMELL. The complex is an unkept swamp. Apparently "eco-friendly" means no irrigation, so there is stagnant smelly water everywhere. NO ESCAPE FROM HUMID HEAT. They have a wall unit AC in the room. Other than that, the resort is all open air. We went in June, so there was a lot of constant sweating going on. THE HYPE OF NESTS. There's one that is free. You have to lay down and it's uncomfortable. You're cramped right next to other people and you'll probably just get up and leave after 15 minutes. GETTING AROUND. This resort has barely any actual architectural design. Everything is like a 5-year-old just started connecting poorly made stick bridges with a lot of gaps between the sticks. It rained one day and I slipped and fell a few times on the bridges trying to get around, it's a vibe. THE BEACH. It's super tiny and only has service between 10am-3pm. Our cabin was next to it and I didn't see anyone laying there once. Azulik really draws the line between an exclusive rustic retreat and a just a run down beach hotel. This hotel is by far the worst value for amenities and quality I've ever experienced in my 25 years of adult traveling. I must congratulate Azulik on their marketing hype, because that's mostly all it is.

Yelp
The hotel has an amazing view however the customer service was horrible employees are not friendly and they don't make you feel welcome.... I got to the hotel early and I know the check in was until 3:00 but I was at least expecting my room ready by 3 and literally got it at almost 4:00 and they took another hour to bring my baggage they offered me a "drink" for the inconvenience but it was at a specific time and day for this which make no sense when it was their fault for having a poor customer service.. I paid more then 800 dollars a night for my villa and honestly it wasn't worth it just because of the customer service if you are reading this review think about if you want to give your money to a place where they don't treat you properly also I wasn't the only person complaining about this place.

Yelp
If there was a word that smelled worse then the sergasso in the beach, I would use it to describe azulik. From the moment we walked they pretend to sell you an experience ; let me save you the time and money. Your better off walking down the street , having a corona & sharing a taco with a stray dog then eating at this place. AVOID AT ALL COST!
