I chose this spot for our first couples getaway. When we arrived, our flight had been delayed, and we were very exhausted. Due to the lack of lighting in the area, and the fact Google Maps didn’t recognise the maze of streets and waterways, it was hard to find. We called the B&B, and a lovely woman answered the phone. Despite there being a slight language barrier, she came out to meet us where we described and she took us to the b&b. Without that intervention, we would have been lost outside for longer. She did mention that Google Maps doesn’t pick up their location, but it’s understandable considering Venice is a historic maze. ||Once settled, and the city tax was paid without any issue, she gave us a map with some key instructions on and where the best places would be in the area. She also helped us get a grasp of our keys, and the instructions for the b&b. ||The next day, after a lovely nights sleep in a very warm room (that we were very thankful for), we met Andrea in the breakfast room. We were the only people staying so we’re served by him with a delightful continental breakfast which we didn’t expect (even though it is a b&b, we had never experienced this kind of hospitality). He gladly made us coffee, and suggested wonderful restaurants that if we had the funds we would have gone to. However, his heart was in the right place. He told us about the history of the b&b, and how it used to be his family home where he grew up and it is charming and reflects that. ||The b&b is out of the way, but it is fun to get lost in the maze if you have time to spare. I would suggest utilising Andrea’s knowledge of the area as he had good tips for paying less for Gondala rides (€2 instead of €80) and how to get to certain parts of Venice. St. Marks Square is 13 minutes walk, and the Rialto Bridge that is centre to most of the tourist attention is around 15 minutes to 20 minutes walk. You WILL be thankful you’re staying away from that crowd, because you’ll soon tire of it and it’s lack of authenticity. You’ll crave the normal nature of the b&b and acting like you’re living there rather than on holiday. ||Go in early spring, it’s less busy and cooler. Take advantage of Italy’s excellent train service across the country. We went to Verona and thoroughly enjoyed it as a day out. ||||Five stars!!
