Lovely little place tucked away without a big sign, which makes it feel like a hidden local gem. I found Bà Nội with the help of the address, 806 Bloor West. The tomato focaccia was fluffy and delicious. The butter tart met expectations — sweet and good. By 10:30 a.m., the apple crumble pastries were almost sold out, other options on display included coconut buns, cookies, and a variety of savory pastries. Everything looked tempting and worth trying, like immediately :)

Hi. Had the char Siu Bao and felt the ratio of bun to filling wasn't right as it was a little too much bun so some bites was more bread and less char Siu. And the the char Siu was plentiful but lacked a sweetness and fluidity to make every bite 'mouth watering '. Also the bread could benefit from a little more sweetness. I'd rate this a 3.5 The curry bun was ok. And wish the curry was a little more kick/curry sauce and just gave us the 'wow effects ' when taking a bite. I'd rate this a 3.5. Butter tart is really good! Crust was crispy and a tad thick (very picky here as I think a crust role is to hold the butter filling and not overwhelm the taste - personal thought but let's me clear.this is an excellent crust.) and filling was sweet, earthy almost burned sugar/ carsmel like. Almost perfection if there was more filling to give every bite (and maybe I take top big of a bite) a buttery explosion in your mouth. I look forward to returning and trying their other items. Staff is so so friendly and they made this a very enjoyable and happy visit.

I don’t think I can say anything new that other reviews haven’t already said but to add to them, this place is super special - best butter tarts in Toronto if not Canada. They also do amazing cookies, curry beef buns, savour danishes, sourdoughs and coffee. I love getting a treat with Vietnamese coffee in the summer. But I visit all year round. Yes, their coffee is also amazing. Expect for there to be lineups at times depending on time of day or day of the week!

An Asian-influence bakery and coffee shop about 5 - 6 min walk from Ossington station. They have sourdough, galettes, Asian-style milk buns, butter tarts and cookies. The space is very airy and open, but no seating inside. Got the butter tart on recommendation from the staff and have to say that it’s very good. The crust is different from your classic butter tart - it’s not your typical pastry dough, it’s caramelized. It has a slightly sweet and crackly coating. The butter filling inside is a nice, sticky and caramel-y, and it’s not overly sweet. Perfect for an afternoon snack!

I have seen the butter tarts all over the internet and had to try them for myself. The staff is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and super helpful when it comes to choosing what to get. You can tell they enjoy what they do, and it shows in how good everything tastes. My wife and I tried the butter tarts, the coconut bun, and the brown sugar cookies. For drinks we had two flat whites. Everything was ten out of ten. Absolutely worth the visit. I will be back for sure.

Finally got a chance to try Bà Nội! Definitely worth the trip. I've tried butter tarts all over the city and the GTA, and these are hands down THE best. The crust had a wonderful crisp to it, and the filling wasn't overly runny. Their salted brown butter cookie was also amazing. Perfectly dense and moist. I will say their drip coffee wasn't as strong as I'm used to. I can't wait to come back and try their other items! Love supporting my people. Cảm ơn! Update: Tried their Char Siu bun. Delicate bun with a generous and flavorful BBQ pork filling.

Wow 🤩 1. Sesame & seaweed sourdough. Insanely good sesame seeds crust, Baby bum bum soft & fresh bread with nice air pockets inside, Oceany seaweed flavour that also gave pleasant saltiness. 2. Their famous butter tart this butter tart filling? It was runny but not too runny! Don’t even know how to describe it. Never had butter tart this good. It was the best!

I’ve been wanting to try this place for some time now. It’s true that if you didn’t know it was there, you could just walk past it and not know what kind of business it is as there’s no real sign. Went there on a Wednesday in the afternoon and got to try their butter tart and chocolate chip cookie. To my point of view, their cookie makes it to the top of the best cookies in Toronto. So delicious I absolutely have to buy more. It has a lot of chocolate which is heavenly. Their butter tart was really good too. It has a really nice light crust with oozy gooey butteryness. It’s pretty rich and filling. Now I absolutely want to come back and try their other items. I did not find that they had poor customer service. They answered my questions and were quick and efficient.

I came here mainly to try out their famous butter tarts, but the focaccia really stole the show for me! I came in on a Tuesday morning, right around when they opened at 9am. No one else was inside when I got there, but after I ordered and left I realized a line of 3-4 people had formed behind me! Seems like a popular place for sure. I was hoping to sit down and try some of the stuff I got inside, but from what I could tell there was no (or very limited) indoor seating. The service was wonderful, the focaccia was actually a recommendation from the staff and I'm so glad I tried it! Potato and rosemary focaccia - my favourite! This thing was steaming and it smelt so good. I had it while warm, and the bread was so soft but also springy. The potatoes were seasoned well. It was much larger than I expected and there are a lot of potatoes, so I can see this being around 2-4 servings! Butter tart - extremely sweet, exactly what you expect from a butter tart. However, the shell and sprinkle of flaky salt set it apart from other ones I've tried. I can see why everyone comes here for it, but this dessert itself is not my favourite. I had it fresh but bought extra to keep in the fridge. It reheats nicely in the air fryer. Pear and brie galette - not super great. It didn't seem as fresh as the other two, the pastry was kind of dry and dense. Not a lot of pear flavour came through, and the brie was also flat and dry. I had it within an hour of purchase without reheating, maybe a few minutes in the oven would've made a difference.

This place has been on my to-try list and I'm glad to have tried it. I agree with the hype - their butter tarts are excellent. Crispy edge, sweet but not sickeningly so, and do well made. Only improvement would be for it to be pecan instead of plain. I also had the cookie which is good and the green onion foccacia which I really enjoyed. I did not like the mushroom galette as the crusty is thick and flat yet doughy. But the mushroom filling was nice. All that is to say that I enjoyed some items and not others, but for that butter tart alone this spot deserves 5 stars. There's no seating inside. You can see them making the items live. Go early as they do sell out of many options.

Are you looking for the perfect buttertart? Then this is your place. It's hard to spot the bakery from the lack of signage outside, but hopefully, the lovely smell of baked goods will guide your nose. Service is efficient, but with a smile. Prices are so so reasonable. Ba Noi's buttertarts are on the more gooey side, so you can't safely split with someone. Just grab one and shove it in your mouth... no regrets! I came early and was able to have a look at everything on the menu. On top of the buttertart, grabbed a cookie, something rhubarb and a seaweed sourdough while I was there too. The cookie was delicious, but had an absurd amount of salt, all in one spot. Flicked some off before digging in. When I came home, I realized my baked goods box had been crushed by the bread. No wonder, when I weighed it, it was almost a kilo! Such a good price for the size. I'm still going through the bread (froze it to reheat), and it has a perfect crust and a good seaweed flavour. I also grabbed a coffee. Watch out! Their lids are leaky :(

Had a butter tart and chocolate chip cookie. The butter tart was delicious. Nothing but sweetness. Some of the filling reminded me of the filling of a pecan pie. Never had heard of the dessert before. The chocolate chip cookie was fine. You can see the baker in action as he's busy in the front of the bakery. Good quality delectables.

Heard so many things about the butter tarts here, and as I was in the area I had to try it. Ba noi is definitely a hole in the wall, I almost walked past it. But what it doesn't give with an outlandish exterior, it defi gives with the quality of the treats. The interior is simple, with it being more of a takeout place. Nothing is overly marketed to you, which is how you know it's good. Sort of feels like a little secret spot. I opted for the butter tart and Chocolat chip cookie and both were DIVINE. The butter tart was the best I've had. Flaky and velvety and so sweet. And the chocolate chip cookie was just the right amount of decadent. Will definitely be getting some more tarts from here!!

Found this place while searching for the best butter tarts in Toronto. They were indeed amazing here! Also loved the spam and egg pastry. Chocolate chip cookie was excellent, too. Char siu was good but skippable. Get the butter tarts!!

This IS the best butter tart you will ever try and it won't be close. The cookie is also GREAT but I wouldn't run for it. The butter tart was so rich and not a typical short crust, more of a pastry dough?? Super flaky and crispy. Not too sweet and just great overall- will be back to try some other pastries and breads as they looked delish

slight bias since I got the rosemary potato foccacia while it was still warm so had a bite once I got in the car. It was so good. I like the Foccacia at Emmers too but this one is slightly less greasy! Both delicious Also got the butter tart. Went well with my tea. Yes I can why people have been raving about it. Apple crumble good but if you like different texture in it.. a bit of oats, which i don't need texture-wise but some might like it'

We traveled a long way to get their famous butter tarts and cookies and they did not disappoint! Everything was absurdly good and the prices shockingly affordable! There is no indoor sitting area so we took our treats to the park down the street to enjoy. Loved the visit we'd definitely come back to try something else!

I kept reading that their chocolate chip cookies were amazing so I had to get that plus try their famous butter tart. I thought the chocolate chip cookie was really well done. It's not too sweet. My only criticism would be that they could sprinkle the salt a little bit better because it was sort of concentrated in one spot. The butter tart, can see why some people don't like it as much. It doesn't have a traditional crust like a pastry crust . It has more like a flaky, puff pastry kind of crust. And they did somehow caramelize it, but the filling itself isn't too sweet. It kind of hits your tongue on the sweet side because of the caramelization but then it subsides. I am a big butter tart fan myself. And I would say they're good but they aren't my favourite either. But I really really like a good traditional flaky crust like a pie crust for my butter tart. But this is a really good rendition and worth trying if you're in the neighborhood. I arrived there around 2 PM on a Monday and that's all they had left and one savoury pastry. So they really don't make a lot of stuff and/or they definitely sell out. So if you're gonna go, I recommend you go early. They have very short hours 9-4pm every day except closed on Monday. Signage is nonexistent there. It is on the north side of Bloor Street, west of Christie Pitts Park, and before Shaw Street. I was walking on the southside and never saw the place until I saw the numbers were getting too big and had to backtrack. I definitely go back for their chocolate chip cookie. And maybe I'd go earlier because I am curious about their bao.

I have been following Ba Nói bakery since the pandemic when they opened with only an online preordering system. They now have consistent store times and it has been so nice to be able to drop by and pick something up. Their butter tarts are my favourite. Not too sweet (considering they are basically full of sugar) and the flakiest, caramelized crust. All their other baked goods have also been phenomenal. I've tried their sourdough and other savoury pastries to name a few. The only reason I can't give them a 5 star is that their space still looks like it's under renovation and there is no really space to sit and hang out. I think it would be a lovely place to meet up with friends or maybe do some work and I hope they get there someday (of course if it's in their plans).

I've been waiting to try their butter tarts and it was so delicious!! I also got the cookie and char siu milk bun which were good but not my favourite. My regret was ordering one butter tart.

Butter, brown sugar, vanilla and egg in a flaky pastry shell, the butter tart. Why has this been a Canadian secret all this time?!? Could have eaten a dozen if not for all the other amazing bready concoctions from this impressive Vietnamese bakery. The char siu bun (Hawaii yeeps think baked manapua), filled with flavorful, house roasted char siu in the perfect chewy bun. Equally good the curry bun. Bold curry flavor in the same bun studded with black sesame seeds. Finally the hot cross buns, outstanding. a spiced up roll filled with plumped up raisins soaked in what taste like grand mariner that truly is good with butter. Guessing this is seasonal and tied to Good Friday? Preorder a must. Over ordering recommended. You're gonna wish you had more. It's easy to see why this bakery has drawn so much attention. Highly recommended.

We'd just eaten an excellent lunch and were in the mood for a tasty dessert, so we figured we'd make our way over to Ba Noi. I hadn't heard of the place but I was assured they had some very tasty offerings. That turned out to be a huge understatement. There wasn't a lot to choose from, so I wound up trying the Salted Brown Butter Chocolate Chip cookies and the Butter Tart. Good lord, I was so unprepared for how delicious both items were. The butter tart, in particular, might just be the best version I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot of butter tarts in my day. The filling was next level, but I think what took it over the top for me was the flaky crust. The weakest part of most butter tarts is the firm, usually soggy crust, but that definitely wasn't an issue here. The cookie was just as good. It's so chocolatey and gooey. I ate half of one and then immediately went back inside to buy another two. The salt was a little distracting, admittedly, but that's an extremely minor complaint. I've heard the bread at Ba Noi is very good, so I'm sure I'll be returning soon.

First time trying butter tarts and first time trying Ba Noi. My friend got me to try some of the butter tarts (3 for $9) and brown butter chocolate chip cookies ($2.75) because he said the butter tarts were amazing! I was actually shocked at how delicious these were. They were freshly baked and still warm. The filling was this brown gooey not-too-sweet mixture of goodness that was slightly runny because it was warm. But wow. It was literally out of this world delicious. For the brown butter chocolate chip cookie, it was on the harder side and slightly chewy. I found it wasn't super memorable but it was still good. Ba Noi is a take out shop so go in, absorb the beautiful vibes of the bakery, and enjoy your goodies asap while they're still warm! I'd love to try their savoury buns in the future. We were unable to grab any because we went later on in the day and perhaps they were no longer baking them.

This was our first try of butter tarts while visiting Toronto. It was DELICIOUS!!! Perfectly baked. We bought a pack of 3 and ate 1 immediately and saved the other 2 for the later. I think they were even better the next day!

I LOVE THIS PLACE. They have the BEST bbq pork buns in the city. And I LOVE their scallion and onion focaccia. Please support them. They are so wonderful and all their treats are delicious!

Parking is not easy, but the bread makes it all worth it! I came from South Florida for the sourdough...so yummy!

This place is so yummy. You can smell fresh baked goodness as you walk towards the building. My friend, who is the best finder of amazing restaurants took me here for treats. The cookies were still warm. They were sold out of a lot of things, and it was just after lunch. I will definitely go back again.

Butter tarts were delicious! Also tried two of the buns (char siu and beef curry). Although yummy, wish they had a bit more filling and flavour.

Delicious! We were visiting Toronto at the end of August 2022, came in about 15 minutes before close on a Wednesday, met the owner, bought some brown butter chocolate chip cookies and butter tarts -- both were very high quality and exquisite taste. We decided to make another trip back around lunchtime 2 days later, to try some of the filled buns - all were delicious but the standout was the Char Siu. The scallion focaccia was soooo good. We found out about Ba Noi Bakery by reading an online article about the longtime-closed Yung Sing Pastry shop on Baldwin St., and we are so glad to have found this gem of a bakery -- we will visit whenever we are back in Toronto!

The cookies at this place are the best I've ever had. Better than grandmas secret recipe.

One of the best bakeries in Toronto. The brown butter chocolate cookie is one of a kind. If you want to try their selection of goods, you've got to go early - all they have is cookies late in the day. Coffee was fantastic as well. Will be back for more!!

I really just can't say enough good things about this place. We've been buying bread and butter tarts from here for years. The sourdough is amazing and the butter tarts are the best we've ever had, and this is coming from someone who's eaten their way through several butter tart festivals (I regret nothing!). It's a small local independent shop and they deserve every penny. Go there, buy it all, and enjoy. It's worth a detour!
