We stayed at Baan Chaweng Samui from 24–27 December (Christmas period), and from the very moment we entered the hotel, it was a terrible experience.
During check-in, and throughout our stay, we were treated poorly by a staff member named Tik. Instead of being welcomed, we were immediately confronted with rules. For example:
– Guests are given only one room key, no second key under any circumstances.
– If the key is lost, the penalty is 2,000 THB.
– Beach towels must be returned before 6:00 PM, no exceptions.
When we told the manager that we were unhappy with being welcomed in such a manner, her response was shocking. She said something along the lines of “otherwise we can’t control people” — a sentence you would expect to hear from a prison guard, not a hotel manager.
We came as a couple for a Christmas holiday, yet were given a room with two separate twin beds. When we raised this, we were told there was nothing they could do, and they simply pushed the beds together as a temporary fix.
Inside our room, there was a connecting door to the neighboring room. Throughout our stay, we could hear everything from next door, including their sexual activity. We had zero privacy and used the room only to sleep.
There was a strong sewage smell throughout the hotel.
At the beach, we waited 30 minutes for a single coffee.
Our room door did not lock properly, and for three consecutive days we had to request repairs.
The balcony drains were covered in spider webs, and the bathroom was not clean.
We are experienced travelers who have stayed in hundreds of hotels across dozens of countries. We chose Baan Chaweng only because accommodation was limited during the Christmas rush. Our Christmas holiday was completely ruined.
The reception staff were among the rudest we have ever encountered constantly unfriendly, dismissive, and openly unpleasant. On check-out day, we were also treated coldly and disrespectfully.
Without any doubt, this was the worst hotel experience we have ever had.
