Baba Ecolodge, Andaman Sea, western Thailand - Explore & Book

"If you’re in Thailand looking for utter peace and seclusion in an unspoiled natural environment, this is the place to go. Baba Ecolodge is the perfect antidote to the high-density tourism and rampant development found on nearby islands like Phuket and Krabi. With 15 kilometres of empty golden beaches and not a jet ski in sight, the island, although large, is totally undeveloped - when you arrive no buildings are visible. Take an early morning walk along the beach, or swim in a sea turned gold by the sunset, and the place is all yours. Go canoeing along a tidal river or snorkelling in the bath-warm lagoon, and you'll have just hornbills, sea eagles and - if you’re lucky - sea turtles for company. Practise yoga in an open-air pavilion under the coconut palms; blissful Thai massages are on offer in a shady sala next to the sea. Staying on the island is as close as you can come to having your own tropical hideaway in paradise, without having to cater for yourself and your family. Highs Morning swims on a deserted beach, followed by a gentle massage and a healthy breakfast of exotic fruit A range of spacious, private and well-designed wooden houses that suit couples, singles and families alike The happy, smiley staff - a symbol of the successful training programme that employs 98% of staff from the village Saturday BBQ night is great fun - there's a bonfire on the beach with rum punch and cashew nut roasting Exemplary environmental practices including solar energy, sustainable fishing and water purification Lows This is a back-to-nature resort: expect geckoes, tree frogs, monkeys, occasional snakes and black flies (if the weather is unnaturally still) There's no pool, but you’ll have miles of beach to yourself Rooms don't have air-con, but beachside houses in particular benefit from a sea breeze Don’t expect much in the way of nightlife The location means travel arrangements need to be planned carefully - worth it once you arrive!" - Michael Cullen

Truly magical, beautiful place, full of beautiful wild life, powerful ocean and mystical trees. The lodge itself is non pretenseusly beautiful, calm. We were lucky to stay for almost three weeks and experience few of the houses. Baba is run by very lovely Tereza, many thanks to you and your staff for all your hard work, which is felt everywhere and Tereza also thank you for your local knowledge , you are truly the host with the most. Food is very good , cooked from scratch and good amount of choices, I could go on and on about the place, you will see for your self when you will be enjoying your cocktail with the most special sunsets with the evening orchestra of the forest. Thank you, wishing you days full of blossoms.|From heart Tomas and Jeremy||I would also like to mention the beautiful yoga practice you can have twice a day or more if you opt for private session. |Yoga is lead by Alisa, very lovely, experienced teacher in a magical Shala, with an ocean view. Alisa kindly put special package for me, so I was able to practice every day. Truly special and I have heard there is a retreats on horizon, which would be definitely place to do that. Special thank you Alisa for your yoga wisdom, sharing the knowledge and giving that unique energy. |With lotus Tomas

It has been beautiful. The moment we stepped off the boat it's as if someone opened a window. How to describe our experience? Enchanting! We slept in a traditional Baan, which was designed to carry the ocean breeze through the house and the colour of the flora and sunlight streamed through the palms for the best morning breakfast call.||All that is left to do in a place like this is Reset!||There was a wonderful spirit of everyone who took care of us on the island. From the staff at the clubhouse to the people at the beach bar and the ladies who cleaned and tidied our villa.||Special thanks to the masseuses at the Massage Sala, as they took great care of us and we ended up booking every single day.||We felt that there was a great generosity of spirit from the Yoga Instructor, who invited us to partake in a variety of yoga methods. We were totally immersed every class and were given time for our minds and hearts to tune into the resonounce of the island. | |Vitality magic in such a pure setting!||Thankyou to all!||Thanks Thersa, for organizng all the transfers and being so helpful with every aspect of our stay.

Stop nine on our three week itinerary of this small part of Thailand. They were all good, but Baba has been by far the most visually stunning and we have loved it here. Our well built traditional style chalet, Baan Chang, looks straight out onto the delectable Long Beach. Rarely more than half a dozen other people along its whole length. Perfect position for the sunsets. Great for swimming. Comfortable secluded balcony on the upstairs level. Shaded open sitting area below. Attractively furnished, with a big comfy bed and perfectly fitting mosquito net. Semi open construction means no need for a/c. All the accommodation looks similarly enticing. ||From the rear, turn right and it’s less than ten minutes to walk to the Club House restaurant, or you can walk along the beach. Nice food, good service and an equally wonderful view. ||Turn left and in less than five minutes you are in the sheltered, shallow bay with its beach bar / snack restaurant. Perfect safe conditions for children (this is a child-friendly resort).||Exceptionally good pre-arrival communication with the talented, multilingual Theresa and her welcoming colleagues, most of whom are islanders. Everything very well organised, cared for and sustainable. ||Be aware that this is more the Robinson Crusoe experience than a multi-star full-service hotel, albeit with all the extras you could ask for - tours, massage, free loan of kayaks and snorkel gear etc. - but this is exactly what we were hoping for. ||We were delighted with Baba Ecolodge.

If you love Thailand but you hate tourists (other than yourself! lol), this is the place to be. It felt like we rented out the whole island and we were right in the middle of the high season in January. What an amazing beach. We took the full boarding option, and the food was very good and the service was amazing. Massage is a kinda meh given the price though. I would definitely come back!

Perfect again. No bling, just a truly exceptional location, completely off most people’s radars, magnificent staff; whole days spent swimming sleeping walking, yoga and massage, reading, watching hornbills and macaques, choosing where to eat each evening— don’t worry if the tide is high, just hitch up your clothes and wade through the creek. Safe as houses! Well done everyone, especially Theresa and her amazing colleagues. Still unbeatable Thank you

Pros Staying in BABA Ecolodge is an amazing EXPERIENCE. Every house is unique, we had a pleasure to stay in the „Sea Blue 1” for 5 days - together with my fiancée. The hut was truly beautiful. Very comfortable bed, a lot of space in wardrobes, bathroom outside in the open air and the balcony with the best sea view that you can imagine! The whole resort is basically in the jungle and you can admire the beauty of nature on every step. Restaurant is in the stylish colognal building and the breakfast served is truly exceptional. The beach is very long with a golden sand, you can see a few kilometers of it with literally no people for the most of the time. There’s also a bay with a beach bar, beach loungers, water equipment and calmer water with smaller waves. There’s an option to take a kayak and have a trip into a mangrove canal for about 30 min one way, which was very nice as we love kayaking and the surroundings was really exotic. All the staff in the resort is really nice and helpful. The manager Theresa was very kind and responsive prior to our arrival, during the check-in she gave us a long explanation about the resort and the welcome tour to show everything. Also, you can find a very comprehensive guide in your apartment, with a lot of useful information and describing the mission of the resort. There’s a small library that you can use and borrow a book - several languages available. Last but not least, I took 90 min Thai massage (1,400 THB), that was probably the best massage that I’ve ever had, not only during this 3-weeks trip, but in my entire life (and I had probably something like 100+ of them). After the 1st one I immediately booked another for two days later. „Cons” Disclaimer: those wasn’t issues for us, but I listed a few things to consider when booking such an experience. This is an exotic island, so there are some things related to it, obviously: - you can encounter animals; not only beautiful birds, curious monkeys or a resorts’ cats and dogs, but also bats, lizards and we had in the room 3-4 times cockroaches (they are totally harmless and not present because of filth, but just because you are in the jungle); - there are some mosquitoes and sand flies, but for 5 days we were bitten just a few times, it was no bother for us at all; - there’s no AC in the room, but fans, which were definitely enough; - the wifi (good one) is available in the reception only, not in rooms and there’s almost no reception on the island (also not a big deal). Basically the only option to get to the island is to take a long boat transport arranged by the resort, which is 2,100 THB one way. Personally I would prefer to pay a little bit more for the booking and get the boat transport included than book not so cheap hotel and then realize that there’s additional 4,200 THB that I need to reserve for the transfer. The food in restaurant is very delicious but a bit more expensive that average in Thailand. On the other hand everything is prepared from the local and organic ingredients so it’s understandable. The outdoor bathroom was great, only downside was the shower height - it had about 170 cm and no regulation so it was a bit uncomfortable for use. Summary I highly recommend this resort, it’s unforgettable experience on an exotic island and you can feel like in paradise!

Before I got there I went on BABA's Instagram and looked at the posts, the hashtag "experienceBABA" caught my attention and that's the best description of staying here. This place is an experience. After two days you forget that you were wearing shoes, forget about your phone and the internet. You take outdoor showers and experience nature, animals, this island. Very nice and friendly people there make your stay go smoothly. Honestly, I didn't find anything that could be a downside to this place. The included breakfasts are delicious, the rest of the dishes ordered from the restaurant are too. + sea blue 1 house has a beautiful view of the sea, but at night you will need earplugs because the waves breaking on the shore make a bit of noise + they have a library with books in different languages + there are a lot of additional activities on site However, this place impresses with its natural atmosphere and closeness to nature. I highly recommend it, preferably for as long as possible. -if someone doesn't like bugs, they must expect to meet them there because it is an ecological place that connects man with nature. Sometimes there was a cockroach in the room or a bigger lizard, but that is part of the charm of such a place

My wife and I came to Baba for our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience of Thai nature and hospitality. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with excellent food and cocktails in the clubhouse. The room was very nice and private and fully surrounded by nature - as dusk came the sound of nature kicked up. Moonlit nights on the beach were preceded by amazing Thai sunsets (hornbills tended to join us, in the trees above). Great yoga and massages. It is a place to come to do very little and enjoy nature.
