"Since around 2000, this iconic Swedish-owned restaurant and bar, just steps off Playa’s always-packed 5th Avenue, serves up an eclectic mix of Asian-European fusion cuisine. The appetizers just might be the highlight, in iterations like a flavorful cheese in mango-mint sauce, or the Vietnamese yellowfin tuna rolls wrapped in rice paper and served with a side of spicy Asian coleslaw and nuoc cham sauce. For your main course, try the famous noodle dishes and pad thai. Vegetarians love it here, too, not least of all for the noodle and curry dishes into which tofu is happily added."

We had a soup that was really good! Unfortunately, they didn’t have tofu that day but we were still charged the same price even though a main ingredient was missing. Prices are fairly steep here, but the food was very good. I think our waiter didn’t really know the food well. I have an allergy and asked the waiter about it and it was clear that he didn’t know which foods contained the ingredient but kept on telling me I would be fine. It was kind of strange. Otherwise though, it was a nice restaurant with a good selection of food.

Great experience! We were lucky enough to have Tobias as our waiter and Francisco behind the bar slinging tasty 2 for 1 margaritas on a Friday night. Delicious Thai food! They offer a wide variety of dishes with great portions. Our waiter was able to take our order in either Spanish or English, and was attentive and pleasant throughout the night. Would definitely recommend!

When I came here at 1.15 PM there was a sign that the restaurant was closed. I was disappointed, but tried and open the door and staff were inside and it was open! Two or three years ago I had a lovely red curry here. It did not taste much this year, very disappointed:( Also, when I only had eaten a quarter of my meal the waiter comes out and ask if I‘m finished! No, I am eating, I said. Then I will take away the food, he says! NO, I AM EATING!!! It‘s funny, when I was here the last time the waiter tried and take away unfinished drinks! Does this restaurant only hire staff that will take away food/drinks before you are finished??? Another thing: the price for this dish was 135 pesos 2-3 years ago, now it‘s 205 pesos :(

Ivan was attentive, kind and helpful. The appetizers we ordered were very good- had the Vietnamese rolls and samosas (samosas were very very good! The Mahi Mahi didn’t taste as fresh as it could have. But cute spot.

The food was surprisingly good! Pad Thai was lovely, not too strong or too sweet margs and the brownie was very yummy! Great service, thank you

Post update Nov 30th, 2023: It was a pleasant dinner. Tofu was grilled this time. The red and green curries were tasty. Javier was great. When he realized it was a birthday celebration, he brought a candle right away. They didn’t have rice for the curry, but they offered noodles instead at no extra cost. He was very nice and attentive. ————————————— I’ve been going to this place since a few years ago when it was at an old location. They offer a few vegan options 🌱 and tofu can be added to them. My favorite dish is the vegan Korean noodles ($190 MXN for the small portion). It has a nice peanut sauce, and I’ve only been sick with this dish once a few years ago. The thing is that the tofu used to be grilled, and this last time it wasn’t 😒 It’s definitely not the same. Grilled tofu (like before) is so much better. Prices have gone up quite significantly over the years, and portions seem to be smaller. I also got the green vegan curry ($139 MXN for the small portion) this time. This portion was good and I liked the taste, but again, the tofu wasn’t grilled this time either. My caipirinha ($120 MXN) lacked sugar, so I had to add some. Service was seemingly ok (considering that there were a few tables that day). They brought the drinks fast, but it took a while for the food to arrive. I’d go back maybe on a special occasion, and not during lunch or dinner time when it’s crowded and it takes longer for them to serve.

We eat a lot of Asian food and the homemade rice and egg noodles are on point. We had the egg noodles chicken teriyaki and rice noodles chicken red curry, both noodles were al dente and the chicken was moist not dry/tasteless typically found at other places. My passion fruit drink was delicious so was the lemonade. The staff was friendly and attentive as well. A+ experience.

Yelp
Babe's has been on my list to try for literally years, and a dinner with friends staying in the area got us there. They were open in a different location before, closed for a while, and opened again at 15th and 8, across from the Palacio Municipal. The restaurant is nice, comfortable and covered in pin up girl art. Service was friendly and our server spoke English well. The menu is mostly different Asian dishes-Thai, Vietnamese, Indian-with a couple of European options thrown in. My group all ordered appetizers to share and Asian entrees (Thai curry, curry noodles, Pad Thai), and everyone was happy. My favorite appetizer was the dumplings, but the samosas and satay were also good. My entree was red curry noodles with chicken. The regular size was a lot of food, with very tasty sauce and well cooked chicken and veggies. The grilled pineapple was a nice addition. The spice level was hot enough for me, but the addition of their house habanero sauce kicked it up nicely. The premium margaritas were also good. I would definitely go again and will enjoy the leftovers.

Yelp
After several of the restaurants were packed on a busy Friday night, we found Babes! As soon as we were seated, then others packed the place. The menu is focused on their specialty, HOMEMADE noodles! So delicious. We ordered 4 different dishes, all were scrumptious. The friendly server made great recommendations. The pad thai was a bit more savory but tasty, it was my favorite.  The garlic peanut noodles had a thick sauce and was good. The other favorite was the green curry noodles, light and flavorful! The best place to enjoy a yummy meal. We ate outdoors with a view of the Christmas decorations in the city Square and inside there was a vibrant d.j. with muted dance music, excellent vibes! Excellent service, food and ambiance.

Yelp
Samosas were tasty, the watermelon daiquiri was excellent. The pad Thai however was way too sweet. Go for the Swedish meatballs instead
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this place on a whim, and it was fine. Nothing special. The fresh spring rolls have chopped broccoli (?????) in them, and the Pad Thai was way too sweet. However, the Pad Thai also had both chicken and shrimp and was a nice size portion. Our server was great, and the price for everything was comparable to US prices.

Yelp
Tried their teriyaki chicken, pad thai, and dumplings. They claim to be known for their pad thai and honestly didn't taste anything like it. Their tamarind sauce was way too sour. Teriyaki chicken was a lot better but still pretty mid. Dumplings were our favorite. SERVICE WAS AMAZING, our server was very attentive, and gave us tips on how to navigate the town.

Yelp
I've been coming here consistently for 15 years. They're in a new "bigger", "better", "fancier" location than where they used to be on La Quinta. It was nice, but not the same. It's still a great atmosphere, comfy booths, and the food is still above average - it's just not what I've come to expect from them.

Yelp
Was recommended by a local and was not at all disappointed with the food. We ordered green and yellow curry, salmon sashimi, pad thai, and sesame noodles. The drinks were also delicious! The vibe is ok could be better. I would give it a higher rating because of Victor was very attentive and had great customer service. Xitlal? on the other hand was one of the rudest servers ever. She messed up our order, tried to blame us for it, gave us dirty looks whenever she walked by, and overcharged us. Do I need to explain more? I think we have all been there and it's so annoying to deal with specially on vacation. Don't kill our vibe Xitlal

Yelp
This is the third year we've gone back to Babes for some great Thai food in Playa. As always the food was very good, and finding well-cooked veggies for the Canadian stomach is always a treat. Although prices have gone up in recent years, it is still a great experience. Decor is more '50s and '60s pinups on the walls, but the food is good sized portions in a relaxed atmosphere. This year the service was a bit of a letdown, but I wouldn't let one waiter turn me off. We had the red curry arrachera with basmati rice in the full size to share. My wife had a great smoothie made from fresh fruits which was excellent. Having free wifi at the restaurant is also a bonus. Overall, a great place to visit and a wonderful change of pace from the tacos.

Yelp
Babe-alicious Someone once told me that August, without a doubt, is the worst month of the year. He added that July would have been, except the 4th saved it. He suggested its just like when you're a teenager at home on Sunday evening and that 60 minutes clocks starts clicking on TV. It's a "time to straighten up and get your head right for Monday" feeling (strange?). But he did name several of August's faults- school starts, vacation ends, women can't wear white (?), men can't watch real football yet and the heat...oh the constant, oppressive heat! I thought about his thoughtful declaration tonight when we were walking to Babe' Noodles & Bar. Yes, sweating profusely is not my best look. Not the light brow drops, I talking full body monsoon. Now don't get me wrong, I love me some PDC, but time out on the humidity already. OK? Ok. But I deviate...Babe's Noodles & Bar! On the corner of Calle 8 & 15th, across from the Palacio Municipal de PDC, is a real Thai noodle spot. Complete with 60's international magazine covers of euro-sex bombs and the perfect mother figures covering walls, its retro-kink cool. They present a simple menu with an interesting list of apps and many standard Thai entrees. Once our extremely worldly and most entertaining friends joined, we surprised everyone by ordering me cocktails. Hard to believe! The girls went with mescal-tamarind concoction & margarita supremo. Dudes did martinis, of course. Our shy, but smiling waitress left with a spring roll & dumpling order as well. Shortly after, we received our drinks and quickly apps forthwith. Drinks- muy bein. Apps- the spring roll was filled with mushroom, veggie & peanut sauce and was surprising good. The dumplings were small, fried flavor bombs with perfect sauces. Perfect. Our entrees were the same. Esposa claimed the Korean sesame chicken with peanut sauce and fem friend tried the Thai yellow curry & chicken. The men went with the much more manly Pad Thai dish which was perfectly spicy and rich. Mine was a bit sweet for my taste, but a douse of soy toned it down and was delicious. I will proclaim this Babe's got it going on. Babe-alicious even in worst month of the year.

Yelp
New location please update. The dumplings were great!. The staff was great I'll be back

Yelp
The soup is absolutely amazing! They also make pretty strong caprinas. Lot's of vegan options. Good service I just wish they delivered

Yelp
Yummy noodles! I had the lemonade with mint and it was delicious . We had the cashew noodle dish with rice noodles and the vegetarian fresh rolls- so tasty!

Yelp
My all-time favorite PDC restaurant, please open one near my home!?! Go with as many people as you can, order as many of the appetizers as you can, and have the most incredible flavour adventure together! I just looked back over the menu to list maybe a Top 5 here, but I can't narrow it down to just 5. Drinks are delicious and strong, décor is really fun and makes for great photo ops, patrons are a great mix of local and (regular) tourists all very friendly.

Yelp
This place only gets 2 stars because the drinks are good. We got Crab Rolls, all imitation crab and cream cheese. The Pad Thai, I tasted no tamarind whatsoever, the meat in it was grisly, the shrimp was overcooked and suspect and the noodles were soggy. It does not qualify! Not sure how it gets the rating it has.....

Yelp
Babe's is the best Thai place I've tried in all of Playa Del Carmen. I've been a customer for nearly 6 years now and it has never disappointed. The Thai Chicken Noodles - basically vegetable stir fry with linguine type noodles all in a peanut sauce is my favorite. Sure it is not authentic Thailand type stuff like I would find in the Bay Area, but for a place in Mexico it is quite amazing. One reviewer commented of the spring rolls being fried. That is normal in most parts of the world; a salad roll (aka summer roll or sometimes called spring roll) is probably what he was expecting. This is more like an egg roll. So I'd take his review with a grain of salt. The drinks are the best. Really well priced, huge, and potent. If nothing else come for drinks. The Mescal Margarita is my favorite. Lastly note: the Map on the Yelp page is wrong. I spent an hour trying to find the place on 30th last time, it is instead on 10 ST between 5th and 10 Ave.

Yelp
Needed some Asia noodle fix. This place was surprisingly good. More of a Thai place. Service is good and price is reasonable. Convenient located in the 5th Avenue.
google avatar

Jaclyn P.

Yelp
Babe's offers a laid back and eclectic atmosphere with delicious cocktails and lip-smacking good food. They've got something for carnivores, seafood lovers and vegetarians alike. Most dishes have an Asian flare but there are a few dishes mixed in for those not in that sort of mood. The decor is quite the conversation starter and the vibe is definitely very hip. Service can be a little too laid back but has never been a huge issue. Prices and portions are both decent. As with most restaurants in PDC, air conditioning is basically non-existent so maybe don't order the spiciest dish on the hottest night!
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered drinks to go and when we got the bill it was double the amount on the menu.. we asked how come.. without an answer he return back and after 5 mins came back with a different amount.. still charging us extra.. reason given, because the drinks are good and they put more alcohol cause it's to go... we went they day before and ordered the same thing but paid the right amount.. try and avoid.. they are here to screw over tourists..

Yelp
So so good! Noodles so fresh. Excellent service. We've been twice in our trip (so far).

Yelp
One of our fav places for food and the frozen margarita . The margaritas are piled high with like a foam ice. The food is well done as well . Highly recommended !!!

Yelp
Went there for the afternoon meal- wanted to try a basil Mojito but they were out of basil . So I ordered a half order of what they call their pad Thai noodles. It's certainly came out piping hot and they gave you a combination meet it had pork shrimp chicken and fresh veggies as well as rice noodles. The sauce was not a pad Thai sauce traditionally. I would call it sweet-and-sour sauce tasted like they used the Thai chili and garlic sauce as a base instead of peanut sauce which it should have been. Still I thought it was okay and ate it and enjoyed it. However like I said it was not traditional pad Thai noodles. I'll probably go back to try the curries. The options here in Playa Del Carmen for good food at a reasonable cost are not many. Not unless you want to eat tacos every day. If you're in town I would give it a try it's pretty good.

Yelp
Being from LA where there is an abundance of Asian food, we missed it while in Playa. So I set out to find the best one. We tried a couple of other places which shall remain nameless and just for the record there is not that many in Playa. Finally we visited Babe's noodles bar and I was blown away! They have an impressive variety of Asian dishes from Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, and Indian. The menu is simple but complete with all the most popular dishes from each of these countries. Oh let's not forget the delicious Swedish meatballs! What? This dish is mere nostalgia for the home country of the owners. Try it because it's just simply special and a treat specially in Mexico. Started off with a cooling Mango Daiquiri which is a giant slushy drink with a generous amount of alcohol and yummy natural fruit flavor. For appetizers we started off with the Giant coconut shrimp and when I say giant, expect just that. Perfectly breaded and sprinkled with coconut these are a must! Also ordered the Shrimp on wontons doused on the best spicy basil sauce I've ever tasted. These are only 2 pieces but there is so much shrimp on top of these wontons they are my favorite appetizer. Next we had the salmon sashimi in a light sashimi dressing which was a perfect concoction of Japanese and Thai with a dash of Europe topped with beets. Next we had the goat cheese rolls and if you love cheese these are for you! I love it so these, I pretty much ate by myself. They have a light sweetness of honey and passion fruit and a bit of crunch with walnuts. For our main courses, we decided to try a salad so we ordered the Vietnamese salad a happy mixture of veggies and shrimp topped with a refreshing Sesame lime spicy dressing. A lightly spicy salad yes please! For the other main dish we had to try the executive chef's most beloved dish, the Swedish meatballs. Here I am thinking well I came to eat Asian food, but when in the world am I going to have an opportunity to try authentic meat balls!? So we gave it a go and it was heavenly! Succulent meatballs, with simple and flavorful sides of mash potatoes, beets and pickled cucumbers. So yes you came to eat Asian food but do yourself a favor and order Babe's most popular dish ;) For the soups, I recommend the Tom Kha Gai with chicken, I always get it when I am here. Playa del Carmen is hot everyday but this dish was worth the sweat on my upper lip ;) Playa del Carmen is full of so many cookie cutter restaurant so this is a place to break out of the ordinary. Decorated with tasteful pin up girls on their colorful walls. The overall playful vibe of Babe's had to be one of my favorite things. Not pretentious and where everyone is welcomed. Do I recommend this place? oooooh yes!!! Come right after the beach, with friends, or date night. Price is also I can't complain about! I was shocked with the amount and quality of food I got for the low price.

Yelp
Great place! Awesome cocktails in great prices! Really good food! Great value for money!
google avatar

Holli H.

Yelp
Top notch curry in Mexico! Who woulda thunk it? I had a Paloma, cheese rolls and green curry noodles with shrimp--all excellent. I filled up fast so I boxed up the leftovers and ate more back at my hotel. Even cold, the noodles were delicious and addictive.
google avatar

Thu T.

Yelp
I love Asian fusion and this was a great spot! The fresh tuna spring roll was delicious and came with the perfect sauce. Look no further for the best margaritas in the playa, these come out huge and so refreshing! Great twist on Asian classics
google avatar

Audrey R.

Yelp
Red curry noodles with shrimp were awesome! Wanted the soup that the owner makes special everyday but they were out. Next time! Great Asian option in PDC.

Jin S.

Yelp
Had the Bloody Mary and red curry and vegetarian rolls. The Bloody Mary was great and so were the vegetarian rolls The red thai curry could have been better. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't soupy enough, spicy enough or flavorful enough. I'm going to go back try the pad thai and will update this review. The good thing about Babes is that it's close to 5th, not in the super crazy area but enough going on to people watch, Service is super great and the prices aren't outrageous. It's also open until midnight. I'm not sure this is a place to put on your list to go out of you way to try if you have a limited time in Playa but if you stroll by and are hungry or want a drink, this place won't disappoint. If you live here or have an extended period of time, this place is definitely worth a "pop in"
google avatar

Haneda M.

Yelp
I think this is my 3rd review ever and I want to say the food is great! Great price, great food. Super worth going to. REALLY...try it
google avatar

Nabeel T.

Yelp
You can absolutely tell the noodles are fresh an man o man they are impressive. Inexpensive and delicious. We got there early and there was a wait when we left. Ita worth the wait.

Hp H.

Yelp
Very disorganized FaceBook page. Impossible to determine how to order for delivery even from their website. Frustrating especially when hungry!!
google avatar

Irene K.

Yelp
My friends and I love Babe's and we go at least once a year when we're in Playa. Cool space, and Orlando's service is exceptional!
google avatar

Delphine R.

Yelp
3 words: Giant frozen drinks . You can pick margarita or daiquiri or mojito. A lot of different flavors, my favorite was tamarindo. Food is good too, mix between Thai and Swedish ( the owners are Swedish ) . Location is across the Santanera Club

Julie J.

Yelp
Great food! Was not sure about Thai food in Mexico but it was yummy! Spring Rolls, Red coconut curry and Babes Pad Thai. All good!
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
This was recommended to us by our Airbnb host on our recent trip to Playa del Carmen and we really enjoyed it. It was good to change it up with some different food for a meal. We got the Thai Chicken dish and the Babe's Pad Thai. Kind of similar dishes and I thought the pad thai was a bit tastier, but only just slightly. Of course, delicious mojitos. Prices were good. I wanted to go back one more time before we left Playa but we didn't make it.

Sarah G.

Yelp
Was in town for a week and Babe's was recommended and they sure were right. The food is amazing, friendly waiter and good drinks!
google avatar

Angela P.

Yelp
Not sure why there aren't many reviews for this place here. They have amazing food and the best mojitos! My bf can never decide what he wants so ends up getting half orders of swedish meatballs and curry. The fish is always really fresh and tasty and the mashed potatoes are some of the best I have had.
google avatar

Doug A.

Yelp
We always eat at Babe's when in PDC. We love the Thai food there and for a change will try the Swedish meatballs. The frozen margaritas in various flavors are not to be missed, they are an event in and of themselves. Very reasonably priced, and great food. Don't miss it!

Heather H.

Yelp
I have eaten here numerous times. It has been awesome every time. Great curry, appetizers, and pretty much all of their stir fry dishes. The prices are excellent and so are the cocktails!

Amilyn C.

Yelp
Generous drinks, very good food. The spring rolls were fresh and awesome. I got the pad Thai and enjoyed it thoroughly.
google avatar

Marco Antonio B.

Yelp
Probably the best restaurant in all Playa del Carmen. With a Thai extravagant and exotic enviroment the food, the drinks and the serivice is outstanding...something difficult to find in Mexico. If you like noodles, Thai, indian food you are gonna love this place. Vegan friendly and takes credit, debit cards as well.
google avatar

Janie D.

Yelp
Drove an hour looking for this place. The address is incorrect in google maps. We finally found the right location after checking yelp and the website only to find it's closed for repairs with no warning on the website.
google avatar

Aston A.

Yelp
my friend and I stumble across this noodle bar and it was great. The wait for a table was a little long but totally worth it. The service was amazing and we enjoyed every last bit of our entrees. Very cool place to hangout and have a great meal in Playa de Carmen. Would definitely recommend to friends. Muy muy delicioso!

Lum L.

Yelp
I got terayki noodles and it was very very very very very salty. I do not know why this restaurant has such high rating.
google avatar

Richard C.

Yelp
Noodle bar in Mexico? They're doing right at Babes. I ordered the salmon over a bed of sautéed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes and a basil mojito, passion fruit mojito, and a passion fruit blended mezcal drink. My other half had the pad thai. It was all so damn flavorful and delicious. The service is friendly and they have a/c in the back. Great food, drinks, and service.
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Can't believe this place is rated so low. Best Asian food in playa, amazing margaritas. I always go for the stir fry chicken with garlic and pepper. Great place for a cheap meal and a drink.. All the locals know it
google avatar

Lesley S.

Yelp
Was so stoked to find this place! Delicious Thai food to give us a break from the Mexican dishes we were eating. I recommend the cashew chicken and fruit frappes! Great service too.
google avatar

Sanita Z.

Yelp
Absolutely love it! Large menu, many great dishes to pick! Love their curries, especially the yellow curry. Right amount of spice. You have to try goat cheese rolls. So good! You will want to go back again and again! :)
google avatar

Jimmy P.

Yelp
What is the fuss about... I mean really come on the waiter made such a fuss about us moving tables as we were in the sun that you would have thought the restaurant was actually full of something. For the rest of the meal the waiter had the worst attitude and anything we asked for seemed like the biggest deal in the world. Funny enough waiters in Mexico actually depend on tips but this guy must have been a millionaire waiter or something because the service could not have been worse. Food was ok, cocktails were basically sugary desserts, and I would say its fairly priced overall.

Ian C.

Yelp
Loving the Asian cuisine especially their pad Thai! Couldn't wait to go back and try their other dishes though since I was already full.
