One of my favorite places in Marquette, 100% worth the 6 hour drive! I make sure to stop here every time I’m in town. The chocolates and lattes are always so good and the cafe is so cozy. I have never had a bad experience, HOWEVER tell the owner to bring back the vegan TLT! 😭 Genuinely the best sandwich I have ever had. I have been missing it since approx. 2022.

We got a decent selection of items here. Pesto turkey sandwich 11/10. It was one of the best sandwiches my husband, my sister, and I have ever had. The pesto and turkey together was magnificent and bursting with flavors. So good I forgot to take a photo. Fruit cup-9/10 fresh random mixed fruit . Lavender blueberry macron- 9/10. Bursting with lavender flavor with hints of blueberry. Vanilla bean macron- 6/10 standard vanilla macron nothing special. Strawberry matcha- 1/10 didn’t taste like matcha or strawberry. Double chocolate chip muffin- 4/10 very dense and bitter. Meaty stuff burrito- 9/10 it tasted silky with a soft crunch shell and was very juicy and delicious. The Belgian chocolate chip cookie 7/10- the cookie was hard to chew but good.

What can I say, this bakery is THE best in all of Michigan- upper or lower. Always smiling staff, quality food and drinks, and charming atmosphere to prepare you for the glorious views of Superior. I make it a point to visit everytime I am in town. From their savory selections to satisfying your sweet tooth, you too will understand why this bakery has earned & deserved big love! 💚

Google
Such a cute little bakery. The sweets case and sandwiches looked amazing. Beautiful presentation. They had a nice variety of options with many being gluten free. We ordered lunch sandwiches to go (the ranch hand, turkey/cranberry, and ham/swiss) as well as a classic eclair, pistachio matcha eclair, and a strawberry rhubarb macaron for later. The sandwiches took a little longer than expected to heat up, but we weren’t the only ones in there. Loved the local artwork! Mostly clean bathrooms.

Google
This is a great place for a vegetarian and vegan to get some food. The "Made with Love" vegan panini was great, as were the blueberry muffin and chocolate chip cookie (all of the above were vegan". Picked up some pasta salad for the road too.

Google
This cute little spot was my kind of environment, small quaint and welcoming. The staff was quick and attentive. I tried a couple macarons, I was less than impressed with these. All around lack of flavor, the texture and thickness was off, and very little filling. If you want a good macaron, go up the block a little further. There were plenty of other options in the case that might satisfy a sweet tooth! Meanwhile, I specifically stopped in here b/c this one had a better sandwich/lunch selection and boy it did not disappoint! I got the train wreck sandwich, which was absolutely delightful. I will be back for lunch!

Google
Oh my gosh! So many amazing options. We went here twice during our trip to Marquette. I appreciated the multiple gluten free options in the bakery case. FYI parking is about a $1 / hour in the area. But the 1st 15 min is free. You do still have to enter your vehicle / plate info. Both days we visited the line was to the door. Quick service though, and everyone was very polite / friendly..

Google
We love BabyCakes Muffin Company in Marquette and we stop there every time we are traveling in that area of the UP. Fresh and creative muffins, scones and pastries, plus delicious sandwiches and wraps. Very good selection of teas and coffee drinks. The service is always fun and professional. Highly recommend!

Karen W.

Yelp
Bakery items are amazing!! We couldn't decide and bought soooo many to take with us and taste tested alll of them before we even got out lunch! Customer service 10/10 very friendly and helpful. Wild rice soup should be called Mushroom/Wild Rice, didn't love the mushroom part (but that's personal preference). Swiss train wreck sandwich was great. Definitely will come back next time we're here to visit.

Yelp
Blueberry muffins are my favorite!! When I'm walking downtown by myself I always go get a hot cocoa and a muffin, it's my favorite thing to do while window shopping!

Michael W.

Yelp
Babycakes is a local staple in Marquette. They have a variety of pastries and drinks. When I went, there was a long line of customers waiting to place their order. While in line, I asked a lady what is Babycakes known for and she recommended the cinnamon roll, which I gladly ordered. The cinnamon roll is a good portion and it was delicious. With their drinks, you have option to have flavored coffee/lattes, but they don't make their own syrups. Overall a good bakery for a treat.

Jayson D.

Yelp
Fun little coffee spot in Marquette. Babycakes serves up all your coffee house faves, made to order and well executed. The muffins are the real stars here, and it's because they focus on the best part--the muffin top! Oversized tops give the muffin a distinct mushroom profile. And they've already removed the annoying paper around the bottom--a muffin lover's dream! That means oodles of fresh baked goodness that you can pull apart and eat with your hands. Eat in or bring them elsewhere. Baristas are attentive and easy going. All part of that great Marquette vibe. Stop in!

Christina E.

Yelp
Just had a cookie and some macaroons and they were fine. A bit overpriced for what we got.

Devon B.

Yelp
HOLY GLUTEN FREE MUFFIN! I mean WOW was that thing MOIST and DELICIOUS. It was truly what dreams are made of. Thinking about it makes my mouth water. I can't wait to eat my next sweet nothing from here. If you haven't given this place a shot, rearrange your schedule today and do it. They will rock your world!

Leigh P.

Yelp
We loved this place so much we visited twice! Almond poppy muffin was so unique and delish! We were actually most surprised by their hot sandwiches. They were hands down, some of the best I've ever had. Warm, gooey and crunchy my party had the shipwreck, the longhorn and the perfect bite. My husband even ordered another to go! Awesome spot for quick take away to enjoy outside somewhere!

Jason R.

Yelp
Delicious local coffee place! We had the quiche which was very sharp, a small key lime tart, and a cinnamon roll. Was quite busy and fairly loud but the seating rotates frequently.

Joe O.

Yelp
Great coffee shop with excellent breakfast foods, coffees, and teas! Something for each of us in the family.

Katy C.

Yelp
I will admit, I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention during our first visit to Babycakes because I was busy surprising my best friend! We arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday morning in September and it wasn't busy yet. Once we settled down, we tried the black bean chorizo breakfast burrito and a lemon poppyseed muffin. I also got a maple oat latte, yum! The breakfast burrito was delicious! It had a bit of a kick to it and was nicely warmed. I'm not a big sweet breakfast person but the glazed muffin was sort of scone like, with a square top, probably since the muffin top is the best part! We went back to Babycakes Muffin on our way out of town and got another specialty drink for the road. I ordered the chai tea latte with raspberry - also yum! It was delicious, sweet, and creamy. It was an interesting combination I'd never seen before and I enjoyed it. The baristas were friendly and I'd go back again. It's a small space inside but I'd grab another burrito to go.

Kyle G.

Yelp
Fantastic local restaurant. Lots of sandwich options, all of which I've had have been great (ham and brie croissant and Ranch Hand). There's also pastries and macarons which make great little treats. The employees are kind and offer suggestions if you can't make a decision. The prices are also reasonable. The one major piece of info to remember: they close before dinner. Do not expect to go there after about 6pm. Great local place with lots of charm and good food that I highly recommend!

Ilan B.

Yelp
Easily a top 3 muffin in the country. Seriously. Don't come to Marquette without stopping by. You will NOT be disappointed. When you walk into this place don't bother asking if they know the muffin man. They ARE the muffin man.

Emily S.

Yelp
I came to visit Marquette and needed a place with outdoor seating because I was with my dog. I saw this place online and was excited to try it. They are known for their massive muffins, but there is more on the menu there than that. I ordered two sandwiches, a low fat berry muffin and a tart trio. All were good. The muffin didn't taste like it was "diet." I do think that there was way too much vegenaise on my veggie panini. Next time I will ask for any condiments on the side.

Matt C.

Yelp
Great service, great coffee and food options - loved the double chocolate vegan, gf muffins

Ryan H.

Yelp
Tons of gluten-free options and great desserts and pastries. A good place to stop for morning coffee. It's not a large store and seating is limited, but worth it.

Don W.

Yelp
I'm not sure what I can say about Babycakes that hasn't already been said in so many reviews, but I'll share my experiences. I was a little hesitant because of the reviews mentioning cupcakes out of a box. I'm assuming they are implying they are store bought. I had to take a picture of our muffins to prove there is no way these are box muffins. The muffin tops on ours were obviously made by hand. They were also super moist and very rich. Tasty I'd say. So why only 3 stars? Consistency. After a couple of visits I realized that it's a crap shoot if the coffee will be good or not. Or if your muffin will be dry or not. If the service is fast or not. Or if they care or not. I can't comfortably give a 4 star or higher rating to a place that I have to decide if I wanna risk a good experience or not. I didn't say it's a bad place. I'm saying it's a roll of the dice if you'll see me there or not.

Seth B.

Yelp
The food and coffee here is seriously delicious! I have the utmost respect for any coffee shop that doesn't water down their lattes!!

Allison C.

Yelp
What a cute little shop! My husband and I stopped by to grab a coffee and a quick bite. I ordered the cup of spinach feta and artichoke soup with a chickpea wrap. It was excellent! I wish I would if ordered a huge bowl of soup. It was so delicious! I ordered one of their seasonal coffees - the oatmeal cookie latte. It was amazing!! Not too sweet with the perfect amount of cinnamon! I can't wait to go back and try more things as they have a vast selection of treats and coffee syrups and seasonal drinks!

Mary M.

Yelp
It's been nearly a week since I ate the bow tie pasta salad and raspberry bars from here and I haven't stopped craving them! Unfortunately I live 3 hours away, but will definitely make sure to stop in again next time I'm in the area!

Shannon K.

Yelp
Best muffins ever! My dad said "the muffin top is just as good as the bottom". The entire store is clean and super cozy. Super friendly staff! The double chocolate muffin is unreal.

XxBluesea R.

Yelp
Very good. Taste nice. Yummy (idk what to write man I just wanted to review it) but uh yeah you should eat there

Jack S.

Yelp
Really liked the low-fat berry muffin. Super moist and fresh. For some reason I wasn't as big of a fan of the sour cream chocolate chip muffin. But for a muffin company, they only had like 5 flavors. More of a coffee shop that happens to carry a few muffins, per se. Cute place though.

Amy G.

Yelp
The beautiful red storefront draws you in! Once inside, the quaint decor is inviting and then you see the stunning display of treats. They serve mouthwateringly delectable desserts and drool worthy sandwiches and wraps. Vegetarian options available! I can't possibly taste them all but I'd like to! They make a great cup of coffee as well as teas. They also have a cooler with waters, juices, and parfaits. It is not a huge space. I'm thinking max of 22 patrons but that would get crowded. Very pleasant barista with a lot of patience for children making difficult choices. The bathroom is clean. Thank you for a wonderful stop this rainy afternoon!

Asalia D.

Yelp
I ordered 4 different types of muffins. I like the unique square muffin tops. The almond poppyseed muffin top was good, but had a weird flavor for the rest. Same with the Apple crunch. Blueberry was my favorite!

Tyler M.

Yelp
This place has crazy good muffins! My favorites are the classic chocolate chip and the apple crunch. Their muffins are huge with lots of crispy 'top' to them. I'm looking forward to returning to try other food they have (their sandwiches look great).

Tosha P.

Yelp
Cute little place with very friendly staff. The muffins were great and so was the sandwich I chose. Prices weren't too high either. Would go back!

Sam S.

Yelp
The lemon cake LOOKED divine but it was so stiff I thought it was frozen not worth the 90 mile drive

Nicholas K.

Yelp
I am not sure if they have changed recipes of the muffins since the new owner took over, but things don't taste the same. Lemon poppy seed used to be my go to, with a close second by the sour cream chocolate chip. Today when I was in, I noticed several flies and fruit flies INSIDE the display case. This was a little off putting. I understand maybe one, maybe two flies, but there were several. I'm not big into leaving reviews, but hopefully they can take care of the fly problem and get the recipes back to the way they were. I like the place and have been going there for years, personally and for treats for clients. The staff is always friendly and I have noticed some new faces in since the new owner took over.

Dominique J.

Yelp
After all the positives reviews, this place was a HUGE disappointment. I really wanted to enjoy the confections and was very hungry. When walking up to the counter, I counted at least 5-6 flies INSIDE of one of the displays, and then another 2-3 inside the second display. I saw flies literally LANDING UPON the various baked goods. I immediately couldn't help but think of other places flies land, such as around poop and dead animals, then depositing that and their own fly-poop onto the food. I lost my appetite. I cannot recommend this place to anyone after seeing those tons of flies everywhere. OWNERS: Please consider doing something to prevent flies landing upon your food before visitors even have a chance to try it! I recommend screen doors (at least for the displays), fly-traps, insect-repellent, fly-swatters, etc. I would happily re-visit and give it another chance if we didn't see flies within where the food was displayed. We did get drinks - my boyfriend ordered a french vanilla coffee and was not impressed. He could not taste any vanilla and the coffee was lackluster overall. I ordered the pink-bliss tea, and although no sugar was mentioned on the menu, it was WAY overly sweet and overpowered my tastebuds.

Renae B.

Yelp
Absolutely most delicious and moist vegan cupcake I've ever had! The vegan frosting was out of this world and it was actually better than a non-vegan cupcake which has never come out of my mouth. They have gluten free and other vegan options if you have diet restrictions. The staff was extremely inviting, friendly, and accommodating too! Not only does this place have hot/iced coffee and pastries but soup and sandwiches as well. You MUST stop here and I promise you won't be disappointed!!!

Laura R.

Yelp
Came highly recommended by someone who worked at the Children's Museum. I ordered the Irish latte, and a regular drip coffee for my dad. We got a variety of pastries but the almond croissant hit the spot the day of and the day after. It was the nice touch for our trip back to Iron Mountain, and my daughter loved the monster cookies!!

Tim V.

Yelp
Exceeded my expectations. So many boutique/craft bakeries have served up mediocre food and bad coffee that I have started to avoid them as a whole. This place is the real deal with fantastic food, baked goods and coffee. Will definitely be back!

Annette J.

Yelp
Spent a few hours here when in the UP to take advantage of reliable internet service (harder to come by than you'd think!) and to get out of the pouring rain. It was a lovely spot! I will say we had a bit of a shaky start. It ended up being way colder that day than we had anticipated (aka, we didn't pack warm enough clothes) so when we got dumped on with rain, we came into Babycakes shivering and wet. However, there were no seats in there that weren't by a draft. IDK if we just got there before they switched to heating vs cooling but it was definitely a bit chilly in there. After moving 3 times we finally set up in the small bar on the opposite side of the restaurant which was just right. But once settled we had a great experience. First off, the baked goods are fab. I got a chocolate chip muffin which was delicious. My mocha was perfect for a rainy day. Hot, chocolate, and just the right amount of delicious caffeine. My husband had the lemon poppyseed muffin and biscotti. Also fantastic. I also got a slab (seriously, this was no slice...but a slab!) of carrot cake. Man oh man, what a winner. Thick, moist, big chunks of fruit and shredded carrots, and thick cream cheese frosting between the layers and right on top. Loved it and I'm seriously craving some right now. Will definitely make our way back here next time we're in Marquette. Looking forward to it!

Ken S.

Yelp
When in Marquette, we always enjoy the Babycakes experience. The muffins are great and the service is outstanding. However, I can't give Babycakes 5 stars because the Babycakes blend coffee is just not very good anymore since they stopped getting it from Dead River Coffee Co. We bought a pound, not realizing they switched to another source. Ended up throwing it away because it's not good coffee.

Bella Z.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee place! Let me tell you, the girls here work their butts off! Our coffees were amazing, our food was phenomenal, and the atmosphere was so comfortable. Seriously a bravo to the baristas! You girls are awesome, keep running the show, because you do a great job!

Nick S.

Yelp
Wow! Talk about a perfect small breakfast cafe. These ladies are absolutely wonderful and the muffins were even better. I was hungry for a hearty breakfast and went with a "meaty" breakfast wrap; ham and cheese wrapped up nicely and press grilled. Large enough to be satisfying without being too big to eat anything else. I also had some coffee, well roasted and fragrant, along with an Apple Crunch muffin. I found real pieces of apple inside, which was fully cooked and still moist. The textured sugar crunch on top made it truly an experience. I got some muffins to take home to share and can't wait to try another. They have limited seating, so I wouldn't recommend trying to bring a large group in to sit down. But they do have lots of vegan and gluten free options for anyone looking for more natural food choices.

Michelle B.

Yelp
I visit this place every time I am in town. The muffins are always fresh and flavorful, and the macrons are something special. Wait can sometimes be long but it is worth it. Grab one of their sandwiches for later - they won't disappoint.

Cori M.

Yelp
I used to LOVE babycakes- it was a staple every time I was in Marquette. They used to have the best vegan muffins but now... the last couple of time I have gone in there is maybe one or two vegan options and the options aren't that great. Their muffins used to be incredible! Now they leave me wishing for the old days at babycakes. The muffins and options have gone way downhill.

Dee S.

Yelp
Boy where to begin.....absolutely great stop for breakfast! House coffee is fantastic! Selection of sandwiches and pastries is superb! Service is great! Don't hesitate to stop in!

Amanda D.

Yelp
The three stars is for the coffee. Not good at all, go somewhere else for that. Chocolate chip muffin and almond poppy seed muffins were both good, but a muffin without coffee just isn't as good in my opinion! Hopefully they get better coffee soon!

Kim T.

Yelp
This place is SO CUTE! If you stop in this town, you have to get a coffee and a cake. I got a puff pastry stuffed with cream and it was so good. Great to take to a bench and sit and eat and watch the water.

Mel C.

Yelp
I love the muffins and scones here and the tea and coffee drinks are always served nice and hot. Whenever we visit our daughter at NMU we make it a point to stop here, at least once, for a muffin or two. The chocolate chip muffins gave the most chocolate of any muffin I've had and I also like the poppy seed muffins as well. The tops on the muffins are large and crisp on the edges. I would like to come back and try a cinnamon roll as they were making them from scratch but not ready while we were there. A nice little place in the heart of Marquette.

Jill P.

Yelp
So many delicious options! Stop by if you are in Marquette! Cafe is beautiful and staff is friendly.

Charles H.

Yelp
Had a great coffee here this morning along with a very fresh croissant! Cute little spot! Good selection of treats!

Katie K.

Yelp
Pleasant spot for coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, wraps. Good social distancing processes in place. Even the gluten-free muffins were delicious!! Some very creative sandwiches - I was sorry we weren't staying longer!

Shelby E.

Yelp
I had the chicken Caesar sandwich and Carmel Latte. The sandwich was huge, and so good I couldn't finish! The latte was good. Their muffins looked big and delicious. Hoping to stop later to try that!

Kaelyn F.

Yelp
Baby cakes is by far the best place in Marquette to go. The desserts, muffins, coffee, macaroons- delicious. I love this place and everything about it. Everyone's super nice and helpful, quick service everytime I've gone there.

Cindy R.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, this place is amazing! My daughter and I were on a road trip and this place had been recommended. It did not disappoint! We had breakfast sandwiches and stocked up on goodies for the road. The staff were super sweet and efficient. You gotta try it!
