The Best Things to Do in Venice, Italy’s Haven for Art and Architecture Fans | Condé Nast Traveler

"For genuine gelato away from tourist traps, this place is recommended as serving legitimate, well-made flavors rather than the crowded, overhyped options on main thoroughfares." - Jenn Rice

9 Best Gelato Shops in Venice | Condé Nast Traveler

"Bacaro del Gelato is a teensy gelateria created by two young Venetians devoted to the classics. The bright, simple storefront gets straight to the point: traditional gelato, done well. A chalkboard menu displays the day's offerings. The dark chocolate is rich and bittersweet, making it one of the top sellers. The pistachio, hazelnut, and tiramisu all follow close behind, but whatever you order, opt to put your scoops in a homemade brioche for an otherworldly gelato sandwich." - Jenna Scatena

Gelato is an essential part of any trip to Italy, and this spot in Venice didn't disappoint. The pistachio with chocolate was an apspoulet treat—it had the perfect balance of warm and cold temperatures weirdly but a delightful contrast, and the flavor was incredibly rich and satisfying. We stumbled upon this place perfectly during our wander through the winding streets of Venice. It was a wonderful surprise and an ideal spot to take a break and indulge. I'd say this place definitely has a scoop on the competition!

This place is a hidden gem in Venice. Not only was the scoop portions bigger than other places, the white chocolate and pistachio flavors were INCREDIBLE. The pistachio was my favourite one in Venice since it wasn’t overly sweet and I can actually taste the pistachio’s nutty flavour!

Delicious authentic Italian Gelato. The dark chocolate with pistachio was our favourite. Would definitely recommend visiting at least once. We enjoyed it so much we came back twice.

I would give a eight stars out of five rating if I could. I cannot understand how I could live before since today was the first time for me trying it. I saw the light when I tasted it. The only gelato in Venice (among other 2 delicious places) i’m happy to pay 4.50€ for (2 scoops of icecream equivalent to 4 and loaded with whipped cream). As a gelato estimator I love when the first thought grabbing an ice cream cone is “where do I start? This is too much!”, and the young lady who served me surely lit this question in me. I highly reccomend the chocolate pistachio and the peanut salted caramel flavours. Looking forward to come back for the white chocolate. Thank you, a truly life changing experience.

Google
One of the best gelato place in Venezia! The colors weren’t too bright (which is what you want in gelato) and the gelato was very creamy! A local hangout not too far from the main tourist center. Not a super busy place, if it looks like no one is there, the owner is probably in the back. Definitely recommend the pistachio flavor!! Loved the location and gelato so much, I went three times! To note: the owner was friendly to me the first two times I went, but then seemed indifferent the third time. I’d have give 5/5 stars if not for the rude exchange

Really exceptional gelato. The texture was dense and creamy. The flavours were natural tasting and delicious. Portions are also incredibly generous.

If Heaven Had a Freezer, This Is What’s Inside ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bacaro del Gelato… I don’t even know where to start. The dark chocolate gelato with pistachio cream wasn’t just good—it was a life-altering, “I’ve-seen-the-light” moment. I’m pretty sure time slowed down and a choir of Italian angels started singing as soon as it hit my tongue. The dark chocolate was rich, intense, and perfectly bitter-sweet, like a romantic Italian love story. The pistachio cream? Smooth, nutty, and decadent enough to make you wonder if you’ve been living your whole life eating fake pistachio. Together, they formed a flavor combination so divine that I briefly considered proposing to the cup. My only regret—my greatest regret—was that I didn’t go back for more. Now, I’m destined to spend the rest of my life wandering the Earth like a gelato pilgrim, searching in vain for anything that comes close to this masterpiece. Spoiler: nothing will. If you’re in Venice and you don’t go to Bacaro del Gelato, you may as well tell your taste buds they’re not allowed to be happy.

Google
An absolute delight. The fat content tastes a bit lower so it gives a slightly less creamy mouth feel but tons more flavor. The yogurt with maraca is a must for any passion fruit lovers, tangy and delightful. The dark chocolate with pistachio cream is out of this world

Yelp
Stopped in after a lovely glass of wine next door. The staff were friendly, the line moves quick. Ultimately, the gelato was good but not the best we had in the area. Worth getting just so you can stroll along the water on the way back to your hotel.

Yelp
The gelato here and service was great. I'd be back here again if ever in Italy and want gelato. Quite a few flavors to choose from so that can be challenging. Ha ha. Good value

Yelp
Best Gelato I've bought in Italy so far! Ordered the dark chocolate w/ Pistacchio cream. Was worried about it being too rich & it was chocolate pistacchio perfection! Everyone in our food tour loved their gelato!

Yelp
Best gelato I had traveling through Italy. I had gelato in Venice, Bologna, Florence, and Rome, and this was the best out of all the gelato places I went to. Their pistachio gelato was perfect flavor and sweetness for me. It's not too sweet and not too creamy. It's a small shop but staff were friendly and nice.

Yelp
You will not regret the Momoeto or pistachio chocolate flavors!! This was so good that I had the same cone twice mere hours apart.

Yelp
10 s-the best gelato I have ever had, which is saying a lot! Located on a cute, less touristy area of Venice and well worth the stroll.

Yelp
Get the passion fruit and yoghurt. Hands down the best gelato I had in all of Italy. Usually a little line but that just shows how damn good it is. After you get your gelato, sit by the water and enjoy. 10/10

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and just perfect gelato we tried in all of Venice. The other highly popular joint was a huge disappointment so I am glad we found this place. Amazing stuff

Yelp
Amazing gelato, my favorite was the yogurt passion fruit! Open late, which is nice. We were at an Airbnb nearby, stopped here every day we were here. Once, we went twice in a day!

Yelp
We spent three weeks in Italy and ate gelato every day. The gelato at Bacaro was hands down the best gelato we had. Their pistachio is to die for. Truly wonderful with a lovely roasted nut flavor that is amazing. Don't miss this place if you are in Venice.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by a Venetian working at our hotel. It is excellent gelato and worth the visit. Possibly the best in Venice. Enjoy

Yelp
Thanks God there's nothing like this close to where I live. I would die in a month. This Gelato is amazing, the pistachios and the hazelnuts covered with chocolate fudge are insane, you can taste that the nuts was toasted.

Yelp
Good after dinner dessert. Small-1 scoop cost $1.70 and medium-2 scoops cost $2.50. The cashier was nice when I asked him which were his favorite flavors. The gelato is placed in a cone holder while you pay. This way you don't have to juggle a wallet and cone. I got the dark chocolate pistachio and the fragola(strawberry). The chocolate was super rich with a bit of pistachio cream. Strawberry was super refreshing. The two scoops were very generous in size.

Yelp
Super good gelato and granita, best I've had. We tried different flavors after doing a rowing lesson.

Yelp
Bacaro Del Gelato is a few doors away from our apartment. This was a blessing and a curse. We stopped in for their delicious gelato at least once a day, but normally twice. In my defense, I always ordered a piccolo. I can honestly say that this was the best gelato of our month stay in Italy. The prices are fair and the gelato is fantastic. My favorite flavors are Pistachio, Amarena & Zuppa Inglese. The staff was friendly and patient with us foreigners. I seriously am craving this stuff now!

Yelp
My family and I were looking for gelato place after dinner close to the apartment we were renting. Luckily, this place was right down the street from the restaurant we had just left. It's nice that they're open later than other places, and I feel that they're reasonably priced. Mint chocolate chip was my favorite! Definitely a must when you're in Venice!

Yelp
A little far from the city center but worth the 10 minute walk. They had about 10-15 different flavors and the 5 that I tried were all amazing. The prices were by far the most reasonable I saw in Italy. The scoops were pretty big!

Yelp
Amazing gelato, friendly customer service, and great prices. Can't go wrong with gelato!
