The decor of the restaurant is really nice. The service is friendly and fast. But the food is not very good. And prices were rather high. I had the gnocchi with a caprese salad. My salad was small and just ok. The gnocchi was very mushy and not very tasty. The merlot was very good.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Italian food in Puerto Rico. It was absolutely delicious. We loved the burrata salad. The gnocchi and carbonara were as good as we’ve had in Italy. The service was friendly and the vibe was great. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore the food scene in Puerto Rico.

I visited this wonderful Italian restaurant to celebrate my son's birthday along with my family. We were kindly greeted by the restaurant's host and quickly took us to the best seating spot for us. We were amazed at the interior decor. It's absolutely a work of art blending a fusion colonial interior architecture, historic photos, and splendid paintings. We were quickly greeted by the waiter. Super kind, attentive and assisted in helping us select the meals with ease. As appetizer, we ordered the Bruschetta platter and absolutely loved it. Beautiful presentation. Main courses were Fettuccine Alla Boscaiola, Linguine Allo Scoglio, Spaghetti Alla Carbonara and cream of Taro. Presentation and plating of each pasta was exceptional. Portions were generous. Ingredients are all made and prepared in house by the masterful hands of their chefs. Flavor and taste was OUTSTANDING! We absolutely LOVED IT! This restaurant has raised the bar and is now our top favorite Italian restaurant in Puerto Rico. At the end, we ordered 3 tiramisu desserts made in house and were absolutely wonderful. The tiramisu for my son was for free by the house ❤️🎂. Price for the entire course of meals is below the competition while providing a delicious, delightful and exemplary Italian culinary experience. We will definitely return in the future and on my behalf, I highly recommend anyone visiting the Old San Juan area and looking for an excellent Italian restaurant to place Bacaro on top of their list. Fantastic place. I’ve been twice in 3 years and both were excellent. Apps were delicious. Drinks were great. I went with the server’s recommendation since I wanted a lighter dish (raviolis and shrimp) and it was excellent. The lamb was also so tender and flavorful and the risotto also very good.

Excellent place if you are looking for a tasty Italian food and good wine. Cozy place with a good vibe and attentive service. Definitely I am coming back!

My friend and I came for dinner. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. The space is more intimate than I thought from the pictures in other reviews, but it's a lovely spot and great atmosphere. I was just glad we made a reservation because otherwise we probably would have had to wait a while! We spilt an appetizer, each got a primo main (lobster risotto and seafood linguine), 2 alcoholic drinks, a soft drink and dessert, and our total pre-tip was $140.

Fantastic!!! From beginning to end, we enjoyed everything! We were greeted with a smile and given a table. Cute atmosphere. However, the food and drinks steal the show! Started with arancini and polenta with sausage. So delicious! Carbonara for entree. We have spent a lot of time in Italy and this was just as good as any Italian restaurant there. Dessert was tres leche and tiramisu. Both were good, but the tiramisu was perfection! The cocktails! I had the smoked margarita (spicy option). Not your typical margarita. So good!!!!!! Just the right amount of every flavor. Thank you for an excellent dinner experience!

Fantastic and friendly service. We had the carbonara, puttenesca, and seafood risotto, for dessert, creme brulee, tres leches, and tiramisu. All of which were delicious. Highly recommended.

Popped in during an evening walk. They kindly made space for us. Fabulous service. Everyone was kind and welcoming. Both food and wine delicious. Pasta was fresh! Hit the spot.

Tables are very close together. Service was good. Food was good, but portions are very small. We both added chicken to our pasta dishes and it was maybe 2oz. each. Quaint atmosphere.

Il Bacaro Venezia is a solid choice for an upscale dinner. Small and intimate, the artwork is delightful, and so is the service. I ordered the Branzino, which was delicious. Hubby ordered the gnocchi, which he liked a lot.

An intimate Italian restaurant with excellent service. Food was exceptional! I really enjoyed their mushroom risotto- so creamy and the texture was perfectly smooth! The sourness and sweetness of the passion fruit juice were well balanced! Dining here was a very pleasant experience!

I wanted to give this place 5 stars because the food was so tasty but the service was just terrible and honesty i don't know who to blame for that. So we arrived at the restaurant at 8pm and our entree wasn't served until 9:30pm. And even then our whole table wasn't served. My entree was missing and the waitress didn't even realize it, even after she visited the table to wish us a good meal. She then had to ask me what I ordered. Not sure if the entree was even fired in the kitchen or if they gave my meal to another patron. Oh and at the end of the meal the waitress asked if we want dessert. We ordered it, only to be told that the kitchen was closed. I will say once I received my food, that the steak was amazing! We also ordered the risotto which was delightful.

We loved the vibe with all artwork from a local artist. Food was fantastic think Italian with a Puerto Rican flare. Every meal on the table was delicious. Risottos were perfection! Service was just as fabulous as the meal.

A must do on your trip to Old San Juan! This Italian restaurant has such a cool hip atmosphere with the paintings on the walls and tables. It's not that big inside, so reservations are recommended. The menu has some authentic Italian dishes, my Spaghetti Bolognese was cooked perfectly with lots of sweet meat sauce and the pasta cooked al dente. The service here is outstanding, where our server treated us really well, and was very fast at getting us what we needed.

Great food, amazing service, cute place. It is really tiny so make a reservation. I'm vegan and they don't have anything on the menu, but they made me pasta with tomato sauce and a bunch of veggies thrown in. It was delicious! The rest of my party raved about their food too! Definitely recommend!

We tremendously enjoyed the food here yesterday. The Caprese salad and pasta were amazing and surpassed other similar tastes I have experienced. Great ambiance, that amazingly takes you from the island vacation experience to a Roman holiday in the middle of San Juan PR.

YUM! I came in on a week night and was able to get seated right away. Its a nice space but tables are a little tight- there are gender separated restrooms but have a paper towel machine outside the restrooms to use which I thought was strange. Service was very good and portions were pretty big. I got the mushroom risotto and the seafood pasta and were very happy with both. The sauce for the pasta was great and the amount of seafood was beyond enough. I really liked this and would definitely come back. I could have passed on the crème brulee but I just really wanted dessert.

We went on Thanksgiving day and had an excellent Italian dinner. It's small but has a great ambiance and a nice vibe. If you're looking for delicious Italian food and want to get away from the touristy spots, this is a great option. Service and food were both top notch.

Beautiful restaurant. We enjoyed the intimate and cozy atmosphere. The food was incredible we enjoyed appetizers and pasta. Waitress was extremely friendly. Check this place out!

We tried burratta, bruschetta; shrimp risotto and tomato linguine pasta. Food and ambience is great but place is little too packed I felt this is the case for almost every restaurant in old San Juan. Enjoyed food, service and ambience. Would definitely recommend going here with reservation if you plan to visit OSJ.

Very disappointed in the food and experience at this restaurant. I don't understand all the reviews talking about how incredible the food is at this place. Maybe these are from people used to going to the Olive Garden or something similar but the food here was basic to mediocre. The service was good at first when we had a waitress. Once it shifted to a young waiter, the service dropped off dramatically. Every time we asked for something, he would forget or get distracted. We had to ask repeatedly for forks, salt (which the food definitely needed), and other items. He would "be right back with it" and while waiting we would look over and see him chatting with this person or another or taking orders from other tables. We were hoping for a memorable experience for our night in Old San Juan but this was a bad experience.

This place was good but did not wow me. The food was tasty though. The shrimp for the risotto special was a little bit overcooked for me but had a great flavor otherwise. I loved the espresso martini. The service was good and we loved the ambiance. There was a cute little section in the women's bathroom with pads and tampons for those that may need which I thought was very cute.

Trendy little place. Servers were attentive. Nicely decorated. Cold AC. Food was nice especially the caprese salad.

Good was Ok, just ok. Service was great. We came at the end of the day, 30 minutes before kitchen closed. Need to give them another try to be fair.

Such a welcoming staff and friendly atmosphere. We stopped in about an hour before we knew we would be hungry to see if we needed a res and the owner put us on the list for 2 to eat at 7:30. When we got back they were full but made room for us and we had a fabulous meal! The carbonara was creamy and flavorful and I ate every bit. The burrata appetizer with balsamic glaze and the freshest tomatoes was superb. My husband loved his spaghetti bolognese and thought it was decadent (his words!). It was hard not to order dessert but we were so full. I would definitely return to this spot when visiting PR and craving something aside from fried Puerto Rican food after a few days. They do Italian REALLY well!! Thanks for having us.

Best Italian in all of SanJ Juan. The wine glass is huge, the pasta is so fresh, and the atmosphere is beautiful. Could not recommend this place enough. I would recommend going early to put in your name then walking around because it's gets busy.

I would literally come back to San Juan just for this restaurant. After having traditional Puerto Rican cuisine for a few days, we wanted to switch it up and this place did not disappoint. Ashley offered us the best service I've had anywhere in a long time and was super knowledgeable about the menu and must-dos in the town. The only downside to this restaurant is how small it is, so I would highly recommend making a reservation but it is 10000% worth the wait if you decide to walk in.

Best pasta place! On our 5 day vacation we ate here 2 of the nights because we could not get enough. Very tasty old fashioned. Highly recommend the bruschetta sampler and the burrata!

The staff is super nice but the food was just okay. The carbonara was very inauthentic and the fettuccine I had was on just okay, lacking salt. If you're looking for an authentic Italian meal, this is not it. The drinks were good.

Me and my husband went for a dinner we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 pastas for main course. Appetizers: burrata salad, very low quality looks like mozzarella, very hard now stracciatella inside. Bruschettas taste like from home kitchen but eatable. Pasta very bad quality, overcooked not house made. Carbonara was very peppery almost no pancetta. Didn't taste good same as bolognese almost no protein, overcooked a lot of tomato sauce. Bad service no follow up, saw my server when he took order and opened bottle of wine, cleared 1st course, left dirty silverware on the table. When 2nd course served no Parmesan or red pepper flakes offered. Also very dirty place see pictures attached. When we payed they double charged, be careful because we complained nobody even told us good bye. Really bad restaurant fake raitings

Cute place started with the spinach salad. was very large. Barely any Gorgonzola. My hubby got the carbonara he said it was really good! I ordered the pink cream sauce with peas, mushrooms and pancetta. Dish showed up with no mushrooms and 3 peas...no lie. Sent it back came back with a few mushrooms and a pint of cherry tomatoes cut in half still no peas. Was a huge portion and basically looked like a big bowl of soup. The sauce was good but very thin and sloppy the linguini was cooked perfect but the lack of veggies was a no go for me! Servers never came back to refill water or drinks.

We were quickly seated on a Friday night. The meal can quickly and was absolutely delicious. To start. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer which was particularly good. The main entrees were both delicious. Red snapper was especially well made crispy on the outside soft on the inside. The Mai tai-ish was not very good. I would advise against this house drink. The Anana smoke was great. Phenomenal even. Both drinks came with very wonderful garnish. The highlight of our evening was listening to the beautiful voice of one of the waiters sing Happy Birthday to another patron. The whole room was quiet as everyone paused their conversation to appreciate a absolutely phenomenal voice. A moment to remember without doubt. The decor has character for sure. Honestly, I'm not a fan. I think the wall art is weird. And every painting is seemingly intentionally hung askew. In short, it's weird.

The food here was so good, everyone I went with enjoyed their meal. The service was quick, getting seated right away and also the food came quickly. The restaurant itself was very lovely, the large mirror and odd goldfish painting were very nice to the aesthetic.

We were able to get a table late-ish on a Saturday night - which was amazing because they were packed. Small restaurant- less than 10 tables plus a bar area. Very cool wall murals. My husband ordered the pasta Carbonara, which is the dish by which he judges an Italian restaurant, and said it was the best he ever had. I had the spicy pasta with anchovies and capers - a perfect mix of salt and spice. We did not order drinks - but looking around at others' tables, the wine pours looked big.

Had a Fantastic dinner here while we were visiting Old San Juan. Initially had a 1-hour wait for a table of 6 for a Sunday evening but were then seated almost immediately when they had a cancellation. We ordered the Barata, caprese salad, spinach Gorgonzola salad for starters and all were fantastic. For entrees, we ordered the pesto cherry tomato gnocchi, mushroom risotto, pasta bolognese and the (special) short rib ravioli. Everything was so delicious and flavorful!! We got the crème brûlée for dessert which was also wonderful. Definitely a recommend for a quiet, pasta / Italian dinner for couples or families with grown children

We ate here last year and as we are back again this year this restaurant is the only place I want to go back to. The ambience and the amazing food is very memorable and a go to if you're looking for a quaint place with amazing food!!

The worst restaurant in Old San Juan. Poor service and the waiters are arrogant and disrespectful. The food is expensive, it is not what is presented in the menu and it arrives cold. I do not recommend it if you want to eat well and have a good experience. El peor restaurante del Viejo San Juan. Pobre servicio y los meseros son arrogantes e irrespetuosos. La comida es cara, no es lo que se presenta en el menú y llega fría. No lo recomiendo si quieres comer bien y tener una buena experiencia.

Five stars for sure for this wonderful restaurant, absolutely delicious food and fantastic service by our serverserver Lynette. The Insalata burrata and gnocchi were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend it.

One of the best Italian foods we have ever had. Every thing was absolutely delicious along with excellent drinks. Burrata, Bruschetta appetizers are 10/10 and memorable dishes. Please order these. Carbonara pasta with shrimp was one of the best pastas I've ever had. On the lighter side with a wonderful butter and garlic flavor. The owners Desi and Eduardo traveled Italy and out there own twist on Italian flavor. They were kind enough to share there story and have a drink with us after closing. If you are in Old San Juan and need some food before drinks and dancing, don't miss this restaurant. Thanks Desi and Eddie!

I was on my way to another restaurant when I passed by the window of Bacaro and saw a delicious dish someone was eating. I turned around and went inside. I was immediately greeted and sat down. I was very hot, so wasn't in the mood to drink and wanted something cool to eat. I have been looking at the Caprese salad, but when the server mentioned the specials, I immediately ordered the burrata cheese. And I'm so glad I did. It was fresh and tasted absolutely delicious. if I lived here, I would definitely be back to order it again or other things off of their menu.

My lovely wife and I popped in at about 5 in the afternoon after a day of sightseeing and shopping in Viejo San Juan. The staff was very pleasant aLnd friendly, service was on point. We had rhe pork turnovers and mushroom risotto. The food was fantastic. It's definitely a repeat since great food other than PR cuisine is hard to find in PR.

Mi esposa y yo vamos aquí una o dos veces al año porque nos trae gratos recuerdos de la ultimas veces que fuimos. Y seguimos récordando la última vez. Es sencillo y tranquilo. Nos encanta.

Now just called Bacaro-- it's right by Birras y Empanadas (aka des historia). DELICIOUS Italian style food. We got the bruschetta (can't urge you enough to try it), I got a sangria (YUM and beautifully presented), and if ordered the 4 cheese penne. However, I tried my friends dishes (the gnocchi special and the pesto tomato penne) and both of theirs were delicious as well. We ordered dessert to go (tres leches) and asp had leftovers! So much food and so delicious. I do recommend making a reservation!! We almost weren't able to eat there because we didn't have one.

Now simply called Bacaro, as Kelsi H. says, and redecorated. The owners of next-door Deshistoria (Birras y Empanadas) also own this. It's a friendly and welcoming place - and often crowded this July. Hanna was an excellent, knowledgeable and amazing server. Great food - not the (familiar, and wonderful) bright red New York-New Jersey style Italian, but a richer, deeper and more textured set of flavors - absolutely delightful. A fabulous experience; I strongly recommend it!

My favorite restaurant through the whole journey! Penne alla Sorrentina has very good sauce but it's not my favorite pasta so I didn't finish it. FLOR DE BACARO is sweeter but in a good way, I like it's creamy taste. LA MULA soooo good I like its fresh and strong taste, it's a memorable drink. The rice is different according to ingredients. We have a steak and cheese inside it. Like it a lot ! Could not be more satisfied!:)

I had doubts about an Italian restaurant in PR but decided to give this a try anyway. The host was excellent, attentive and friendly. The place has a good vibe and great service. The stars are mostly for that. The food was ok. Everyone ate their meals but none of us raves about what we ate. It's was good enough but I had hoped for better. We tried the bruschetta appetizer and it was probably the better part of our meal. Each of got different main dishes but I'm not recalling the names of each. One was the risotto with shrimps and steak. We didn't get desserts here.

Food and service were great. Highly recommend. Small and intimate ,suggest a reservation .

This place was pretty good. Linguinie Amatricciana was really good and not that spicy. The carbonara was a little disappointing. Atmosphere was cool.
