Back Bay Bistro

Food is awful. The chicken sandwich is bland dry and overcooked. These are advertised as fries but they are dry bland potato wedges…not an ounce of seasoning. Overpriced and inedible. And what’s the purpose of a plate that barely fits your food? You eat and food falls on the table.

We did not eat here, as we only got drinks, and are honestly grateful that we didn’t. Upon entering, we thought the atmosphere was intimate and cute. But, right after sitting down, I asked our bartender for a margarita with a regular, non-luxury tequila. She then responded “well nothing at the airport is cheap” (fairly sassily), which as an avid traveler I fully understand and have experienced many, many times… However, I know what airport expensive is, and we got 2 drinks and were charged a whopping $40! $24 just for a regular old margarita… if I hadn’t heard the staff complaining about several things, the occurrence of the snyde comment from our bartender, or had not waited 10 mins with my card in hand ready to close out as our bartender did other non-customer related tasks right in front of us, I may have felt differently about the cost… but I would not recommend going here. It is unfortunate as it’s the only sit down restaurant in the B terminal at ORF, but I would not recommend going here and would get water and snack at the convenience stores instead. I will give a plus to the other staff member (not our bartender) that wished us a good night on the way out, but still was not satisfied with our bartender or the cost.

It’s an airport restaurant so our expectations were modest but this place is alright, way better than in many reviews. Fast service, chicken sandwich cane in 5 minutes and was good, and a very nice view.

My overall experience was good. I don’t like scanning QR codes to get the process started, but the drinks came quick after first placing the order. My burger was made the way I asked, but the fries were cold. The broccoli cheddar soup was good, but could’ve been hotter. The side Caesar salad was amazing. The server was kind, attentive, and great at her job. I’m glad we’re able to just sit down and start ordering, even though it’s online.

This place was one of the worst food I’ve had in a while. Waited 45 mins for the food and there were only 3-4 other tables in there. We kept asking how long because we needed to make our flight. The waiter said they are plating now and still 15 minutes later… no food. We got up, went to the server window I ask for them to put the food in take out boxes, just to find out that the food still wasn’t even plated. Now let’s get to food, horrible. The calamari tasted like frito lay chips, wings were on a diet and fries were definitely stale. If I could post this with zero stars I would. Now I’m sitting on this flight, mad with bubble guts. Avoid at all cost !!!!

This for the Norfolk area location. Ordered calamari, was terrible-overcooked, very dark and hard to eat. Think the grease was hot. The salmon was, well I actually don’t know what it was. It had no flavor. The salad was ok if you like lettuce, lots of onion and croutons. Cheeseburger was ok. Eat before you get in terminal.

Not many options at ORF and this is not a good one. If you can’t manage a BLT you really shouldn’t be in the kitchen. Wilted lettuce, pink tomato, barely toasted bread, and both sides of lathered in mayo was pretty gross.

It's a quick and simple stomach stuffer. This bistro is at the end of the terminal B, next to my gate. It's a nice place to sit down and get some food. They have a limited menu and I wanted the pancakes like my last visit but the menu changed and that got "86s". Ordering and paying is used via their app. I wasn't able to pay using the app so my server did it the old fashion way. I got the biscuits and gravy. There really wasn't much of a taste. And there was so much biscuit and not enough gravy that there were some really dry biscuits spots. That stuck to my mouth. Overall three stars. The service was quick. Disappointed with my order but at least, something to eat aside from plane food.

Sorry, this was just "ok" for me. The service could use some improvement. They have QR codes on the table to scan to order and pay. However they have the ability to lock them down so you cannot order. Everyone around me was able to order through the QR code but I was not. So I chased down the one server and she told me that they close them periodically to prevent have too much of a backlog for the kitchen and bar. This is a good concept if the customers are aware. I was trying this QR, for almost 15min. The old bay wings were great, once I was able to order. I do think they were cooked a little too long, but the flavor itself was good. The ambiance was typical airport restaurant. Small, and packed with customers who were self seating, so the servers don't really know who's in and out. I see that they could potentially loose business because of the lack of oversight in customers entering due to seating themselves.

For what it's worth, we will stop here over and over before our flight. Service is typically fast and it seems like the same man is working every time we stop in. We ordered our first fry plate through the app. It was so good we shared another order but we had trouble ordering through the app. As a result, the man working gladly took our order. He was efficient at all areas of the restaurant. A quick bite to eat and prompt services wins for me each time. Have fun and enjoy life:)

At the Norfolk airport awaiting the flight back to Atlanta. My grandson (12) and I are greeted at the door by the waitress who then seats us and says she will be back but needs to relieve herself or she will be going home early. WTH?!?! My grandson say to me TMI... We ordered food. Calamari to start and I had the smoke turkey sandwich, my grandson had the bacon cheddar burger. Overall the food was good except the calamari which was heavily overcooked and hard. Sent it back and it was taken off the bill. Overall, the service was decent without the "TMI" issue I would have given them a better grade and of course if not for the calamari issue also. We will try them again in the next trip. Hopefully things will have improved.

So this was my second time at this spot after my initial flight was cancelled. The bar and main seating area was filled so I had to make due with the overflow area. It's order throw the QR code and pray your order registered and your food comes in time. I ended up rushing through my meal to make my flight and truly didn't get a chance to enjoy it. I hope I can be seated and fully enjoy my meal, given this is the only real restaurant in this terminal and I fly through ORF a few times a year.

Sat here for nearly 20 minutes and not a single person came over to even take a drink water. Asked for my waitress nothing. Very rude they make eye contact, snicker in the back but zero service. Why?

Food was good, slightly over priced for an airport, as expected. Restaurant was clean and it wasn't too busy. You have the option to sit inside or out in the sectioned off area in the terminal. Service was quick but scarce since you order everything on the digital menu QR code.

Food and drinks was good, service is horrible. We had to learn from other customers to flag down a waitress if their QR code didn't work.. So we waited 30 minutes before we knew we had to flagged a waitress down. We observed that they choose who they want to voluntarily serve.

Super busy on A holiday weekend!!! Don't be impatient and you'll do fine. Today they were slammed and doing the best they could. Julie took care of me today with a delicious double drink!!! Yummy Great start for travel day!!

Of course, I've been working on my frequent flier miles! So, I decided to stop by Back Bay Bistro again and have a mimosa with a pepperoni pizza! It was so yummy! I'm sad I failed to get a picture, but I promise you, the pizza look exactly like the pizza on the page. The service was great as usual and can I mention the music?! OMG! I was so taken back to when life was super easy! It was definitely a good vibe for sure! I was also able to knock out a little homework while I was there. If you need a place to relax before your flight, take a seat at Back Bay and you will not regret it. Until next time...Cheers!

The staff was very nice but it didn't make up the garbage they served as food. My BLT was essential a McDonald's hamburger bun with a egg, two slices of bacon, one slice of tomato, and a pinch of lettuce.

I stopped here for a pre-dinner spot before boarding my flight. Upon entry, there is a in depth menu for you to view and you sit yourself. At the table, you scan the QR code, order, and pay all on your phone (very Post COVID behavior). My partner and I ordered the trio. It came with pretzels, chicken tenders , and wings. The wings were fried hard and really good. The chicken tenders were good as well. The star of the show, the pretzels. I would come just for the pretzels. 10000/10 recommend especially for airplane food.

It's a 3.5. Food wasn't bad but service was slow and our waitress disappeared multiple times into the back and wouldn't reappear for like 15 minutes. My wedge salad add grilled chicken was actually pretty good. I was surprised. The chicken was good quality and it was fresh with great flavor. The house chips were awful. Rubbery and almost impossible to bite through - I absolutely do not recommend them. Not crispy at all. Ugh. Overall - not awful for airport food with a decent menu and plenty of salads and sandwiches and flatbreads. Staff were running around and busy with a ton of people from a cancelled flight.

Restaurant is clean and when I went not busy but is the main sit down restaurant past tsa. I got the turkey melt and old bay fries and they were spot on! Washed it down with Diet Coke. My only negative thing is the paper straws but to each their own on that topic. Service was friendly and prompt.

Terrible service. Took us over an hour to just get our water and beer! Food took longer and the service was terrible. Waitress was rude and barely made round to other customers. Wouldn't recommend unless you've got 2+ hours to sit and wait and if you're not desperately hungry.

Decided to get breakfast before my flight. Wish I hadn't. The breakfast at this place was awful. The scrambled eggs tasted like the were made yellow paper and smelled funny. If you are hungry at the Norfolk Airport, DO NOT eat at this place, located between Gate B23 and B24. The food was awful.

No food or service. Customers leaving to make flights and not getting their food. Hire more cooks or more efficient cooks.

I initially thought there was no dining option at the airport but right at the end, I found Bay Bistro. They have inside and outside seating, a full bar and a decent menu. The flatbread honey bbq chicken was surprisingly good. Service was tedious and the waitresses all seemed harried despite it not being busy.

I downloaded this app just to tell ppl not to waste their money! Over priced and disgusting...crazy combo! I ordered a margarita and it was horrible. I ordered the appetizer trio and yeah, DO NOT recommend. Save your coins! If I could give ZERO stars, I would!

Fist off let me just say... The service, specifically by the bartender this lovely No day morning was excellent, professional, and courteous (Tressiny) hope I spelled that right... She alone could make this a 4 star review (management please take notice, you have an outstanding bartender/employee). I digress..... I would have given a better review, except the one simple thing on the menu (black coffee) was horrible. Literally the worst coffee ive had in a long time. By the way, I don't base coffee off of frufru flavored sugar filled "coffee"drinks. It would be absolutely wonderful if this place could make a basic, delicious, medium roast house coffee... It sounds weird, but it truly is a simple but easily fixed issue. Look, Dunkin, Cracker Barrel, and other "breakfast" places can make a simple delicious black coffee .... What can't Back Bay??? PLEASE, from a loyal customer and frequent flyer.... Please can you bring better coffee to this place? ~Much love and thanks.

Let me start off by saying that this review is based solely on my opinion and my opinion alone so with that being said let's go!!.. My wife and I stopped by for a quick bite in between flights which was conveniently located by our departure gate! We ordered a cheeseburger and fries to share through the menu,it was quick and easy. The waitress brought our to go order our promptly! The food turned out to be pretty good!.

My only complaint isn't really a complaint, but a water is $6 in a tin bottle. I sent it back lol But I ordered the flatbread pizza and it was really good. Another person I was with got the bacon cheeseburger and liked it.

While the food is ok, I'm not ok with waiting 47 minutes for a burger when I walked in with an hour before my flight then having to scramble to the gate. Took them 25 minutes just to bring me my first beer, but forgot the shot of Jameson. Had to have a waitress reminded the woefully overworked bartender. $50 for a cheeseburger, beer, and shot of Jameson... and the burger was so mid. This place sucks. Avoid if you must.

What a joke! Can't get you a simple sandwich in 30 minutes. Can't make a simple Manhattan because they don't sweet vermouth. What complete BS for an airport bar. Do you have zero pride in your business?!?

Horrible cook. First we requested for all flats, he gave all the opposite. Then we complained and took almost 30 mins and gave us flats but doesn't know how to count. Expensive not worth it

We ate here while waiting for our flight back home. We had breakfast here and it was the only place that was open in the airport so we decided to give it a try. The toast was not toasted and it was pretty much just plain bread. It was sourdough toast but it wasn't Toasted. The bacon was OK but the sausage was a bit dry. The over easy eggs were not over easy but over hard which was a disappointment. The service was good and our waitress was very helpful and pleasant.Overall the breakfast was mediocre at best.

Great service from Kris I had the crab cake sandwich with French fries, and can't forget the home made chips Everything was fabulous Will definitely stop by next time in town

I'm off to Austin for the week and stopped in for some breakfast at Back Bay Bistro. I'm glad I did and recommend it if you need some grub and are already through security. My server's name was Trestney and she was very attentive and pleasant. More about her later. I decided on their omelette which is aptly stuffed with bacon, green peppers, cheese, and onion. It comes with either grits or potatoes (I chose potatoes) and toast (white or whole grain). I had a nice glass of grapefruit juice and a side of ice water. In all the food was served hot, fresh, and was seasoned well. There was a lot of fresh cooked bacon inside the omelette as well. Compliments to the chef! Now back to Tristney, my server. I observed what appeared to be a nice couple sit down in the booth in front of me...that is until they opened their mouths. One of them wanted the avacado toast which comes with shrimp, avacado, etc. He then basically wanted it stripped down and then a bunch changed. Tristney explained that doing so would incur a cost which ended up at $12... it's an entree after all... not a side. He then proceeded to be rude, accuse her of upcharging, being rude, and they finally left. Tristney remained professional throughout the brief but rude encounter. She even comped the drinks they already began to consume (I say consume because much like a vortex, they probably suck the life out of everyone they encounter. Good food... great service!

Airport dining choice are way overpriced && for some reason almost always understaffed! My server was rocking it and managing to cover all the dining tables- I have no idea how~ she was a 5 star. Food was fine, nothing special, drink was not so great and for $10 for a rum and coke- it should have been good. I was desperate to eat before getting on the plane since I knew it would be 11pm before I would get another chance for food! Norfolk Airport doesn't have a lot of choices- so you're stuck with either a cafe or the bistro.

Fries and mini-wedge salad were okay. Margherita flatbread not amazing but passable. Servers are responsive. I charged my computer. My favorite cousin, Lewy, and I were waiting on a delayed flight to Detroit through Sacramento. Weather, I guess. Anywho, Lewy was talking about how she found a deal for a faux teak chifforobe on Wayfair, which is, like the only place I will shop online these days (after what Target did!!!). Hilarious story, too, because Lewy is SO into chifforobes and I'm like, "Why?" And, she's like, "They relax me." To each their own, I guess. And I'm glad she found a good deal. She needs to save money FUR SUR now that she ain't got no job (NO THANK YOU to Teddy Tae Kwon Dough Pizzeria and Karate School who wouldn't know an amazing receptionist if they roundhoused them in the brick oven!!!). Funny thing about Lewy is that she has all webbed toes. She's so shy about it but I think it's super cool. Like, I would show them off even at work. At Back Bay Bistro, we hung out. The beer was good. I had a Bud Light and it was cold.

This is literally the only restaurant in this tiny airport and I arrived at 6 on a weeknight and they were closed. Went back just for a glass of wine and still was turned away. Figure it out folks. Jeez!!! Not even nice about it. Sorry your life sucks. All of you. One lady didn't even look at me when I was speaking to her. Worst airport pub ever!!!!!!

I ordered the blt breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was fresh and tasty but the potatoes were completely cold. This is the only actual restaurant on that side of the terminal and is probably worth stopping at.

Obnoxious music and crowded, too cheap to provide straws,fries and chips, bbq has hunks of fat, hamburger meat was cooked fine, but cold eat at local place outside of security. Bottled beer is okay.

Had my second meal here in a month. I'll be the first to admit that I'm pretty easy to please, but I love the efficiency of this place. After my first visit I was looking forward to getting breakfast here before my flight home and I wasn't disappointed. I seated myself, scanned the QR code, selected my items from the menu, sent the order and paid for it. In ten minutes I had a hot delicious traditional American breakfast in front of me. I haven't been here on a crwded day but it seems like the have plenty of seating available, some in the cafe and a large overflow section toward the center of the terminal area. They also have a bar that serves adult beverages. The ambiance is pleasant, though the seating is a little compact. This will definitely be my restaurant of choice whenever I'm coming through Norfolk.

Absolutely appalling! The margarita flatbread was disgusting. Massive pieces of bland cheese with flavorless tomato's covered in more grease than you could ever imagine

My server was great. They were super short handed but she did a great job taking care of anyone. However, two gentleman came up to order a couple drinks from a different bar tender (not my server) that ended up being $52 (price told to them after their card was swiped) and I said whoa, are you sure that's their order. They decided to ask them to void the transaction because that's obviously outrageous and left without their drinks. Their bartender proceeded to talk poorly about me, 3 feet from me, and I said, hey I can hear you. She said she didn't care and proceeded to argue with me about how it was my fault. Eventually my server who was great, got the manager, and I proceeded to explain it's completely understandable to complain about customers, sure I might have made her annoyed. That's fine. Complain about me in the back away from other customers. I worked in the service industry a large portion of my life, so I understand. But completely unprofessional to talk poorly about a customer in front of the customer around other customers. Awful look for the establishment.

You'll pay 20$ for a child's meal of chicken strips and fries (on menu as "southern hot chicken"). Unseasoned and without any sauce. This place is nothing more than barely a step above microwave level. When asked why my 20$ chicken includes no sauce, or anything that would actually give it flavor was told "some people don't like it".

The food was soggy and uncooked. They took forever to bring my food out and when they did they had no way of knowing my food was for me other than them yelling through the restaurant. My experience was horrible and I almost missed my flight trying to pay for nasty expensive food.

Was gonna grab breakfast but within 15 seconds of sitting there the server called me a liar and said I was grumpy. So I got up and left. Just wanted to buy food. Rude service.

Ambiance: packed restaurant at ORF, you don't have too many choices in the airport. Service: friendly but slow Food: in general ok Beef Bistro & Blue - *** average taste Caesar Salad - ** so so Price: overpriced for its quality, expect $20 each

Had breakfast here. Not worth the $20 I paid for it. Omelet with Barry anything it and was about 2" by 2". Unbuttoned toast and one jelly for four slices. Potatoes were cold. Coffee was Luke warm and no half and half- just Delight creamer. All in all- disappointed. You're just better off picking up a snack elsewhere.

Food is over priced, but it's to be expected at an airport, and it's the only sit down food place at this airport. Wings were good but not for 15$. I also got 2 Grey gooses & cranberry's which was another 20 or so which my total bill came to $40. Wouldn't say food was worth it or to get a drink. Would definitely recommend getting something to eat first outside the airport before being hungry inside an airport.

WOW. Do not try getting a glass of wine here. First of all, sooo expensive. Secondly, I don't even know how the wine tasted. I ordered and waited over twenty minutes. The waitress kept walking over and saying how I can order and pay by phone and I told her I ordered a glass of wine and was waiting for it. So frustrating. Terrible service.

The service here was awesome. I sat at the bar and the women serving was very nice and did a great job helping me and others around me. Ordered a turkey bacon stack sandwich and a salad. The sandwich was borderline bad. A little too much mayonnaise for me. The meat was okay and the bread was standard wheat bread. Nothing special. I have had better sandwiches like this at other places. In all, the food was...meh.

My wife and I came here and all we asked was "Are they taking to-go order?" The waitress was VERY rude for no reason. Food was not worth the wait, and staff was VERY RUDE!

The food here is criminal. For $15 I received half a cold chicken fingers and a half a slice of bacon on white bread and 12 cold, old French fries. That was the chicken BLT. The classic flatbread was slightly better but tasted like elementary school pizza. We were starving and figured at least the fries would be decent but no, just no. I've been nauseated since I ate. Just go get a bag of chips and a soda. You don't want to eat that bad.

Julie and Trystin absolutely are the best! So kind and so welcoming. Hate the airport but they made this experience way better. Definitely looking forward to the next time I have to come to the airport.
