Backcountry Burger Bar

Everything was very good and I would recommend eating here. I had the black and blue and my wife had cheeseburger. The staff is very nice and helpful. The restaurant itself is very neat and clean. You can tell the attention to detail. The decor it nostalgic. Very cool. Also I order the Mac and cheese with bacon,ground beef and green onions. This was very good. Worth every bite.

Great & super delicious food :) Nice atmosphere and good service. Great lunch/dinner for the whole family. Both burgers & salads are very tasty. Also has a really good butternut squash soup.

I really wanted to like this place. I researched it ahead of time and picked out what I wanted. I was very excited to try their bison. However, they were out of bison today. OK, so I ordered the poutine. What appeared was a dish of fries even smaller than what I would expect to see as a side with a burger. The gravy was extremely salty and very difficult to eat. The waitress was wonderful and offered me something else, but at that point I was just not interested. Looks like a very nice place and has plenty of seats. I would like to go back and try their bison.

I came here 2x Because my first time I had a salad and a bison burger and my second time I had their Brussel sprouts and a bison burger. Great burgers and fast service. I had Maria’s burger. If you’re in Montana eat the bison!

Tried the Bison burger, hamburger, brussel sprouts, french fries and Mac&Cheese. The burger buns were very dry, and the meat were dry...not very impressive. brussel sprout was a gem, very tasty and special. Customer service was good. The most disappointing was the Mac & Cheese...for $9 we received a portion of small soup bowl, which was not even enough for a kid. Mac & Cheese by itself was not expensive ingredient, might as well give a little more portion to make customer happy with the price tag they charged.

Best thing on the menu that we tried was the beer. 🍻 Seemed as though they didn’t clean the flat grill, (pictures will tell you why the assumption) poutine gravy was jelly, super salty, and definitely not it. Cheese curds were lightly breaded and flavorless. The Marias was meh, I upgraded the caramelized burger to bison to try it and I would say stick with whatever they’re trying to serve you because it’s going to taste like burnt grill. Mac n cheese was basically melted velveeta. 0/10 do not recommend, I’m really sorry for this review; I wish I had this advice.

Ordered takeout. Maybe dine in would be better? One of the worst burgers I’ve ever had. My partner’s also was way overcooked. Wildfire came without onions. Marias, no lettuce. Added onions and lettuce from my fridge. Nbd. But the Marias burger was near inedible, beyond well-done. Could not finish. Tasted like cork board. Wildfire was bland as hell. Had to douse it in the Alabama sauce from the Yardbird order ($10 for four tiny chicken nuggets lmao). The burger buns were dry, maybe a bit old? My partner and I both agreed Wendy’s would’ve tasted better. This was a waste of $50.

We got burgers and the Nashville chicken sandwich. Small servings size but the bun, was soft and fresh! We got the sauce for the Nashville sandwich on the side - be warned it is,or taste like, pure hatch hot chiles cooked down in a red sause 🥵. Not the flavor I was expecting, almost too hot to appreciate. But if u r a hatch red Chile kinda person u just may love it! They serve their chile verde as a soup 🤔 meatier than many places in UT, milder than NM but not as good flavor wise as CA - in my opinion. Still not too bad, all things considering.

This is a great burger bar on Main in Bozeman. We ate there twice while on vacation. The buns are light and toasted. The burgers are very flavorful. The fries are fresh cut. Definitely recommend this one.

Tasty Cheese Curds, But Where's the Rest? Stopped by to try their cheese curds, and while they were crispy, gooey, and full of flavor, the portion size was a joke. For the price, I expected more than a handful of curds. Don't get me wrong, they were good--perfectly fried with a nice crunch and just the right amount of cheese pull. But if you're sharing, be ready to fight over the last one. Honestly, I left still hungry and a little disappointed. If you're all about quality over quantity, you'll love them. But if you're looking for a hearty serving of curds, this isn't the spot. Yes I know it's not called Backcountry cheese curds bar.

My daughter and I tried to eat a meal at Backcountry Burger Bar. I ordered the brussels sprouts and when they arrived, I bit into them and they were absolutely some of the most painfully spicy brussels sprouts I've ever tasted. There was nothing on the menu to indicate that this was a spicy dish--sometimes restaurants will put a chili pepper or something next to the item to indicate that it's a very, very spicy dish, but that was not the case here. When I asked the waiter if I could send them back and get something else, they took it away, and then the waiter came back and said that the manager would not allow me to be refunded for the item that was essentially inedible. I found that a really really obnoxious attitude and very poor service for any restaurant, so I wanted to come up here and and let people know that they do not care about their customers. They do not care about good service. They don't care about basic kindness and doing the right thing when you've given somebody a dish that is painful and burning their mouth and inedible and you don't acknowledge that and make it right.

Service was great. Food was okay - didn't quite hit the spot. We each ordered a burger and shared a kale Caesar salad. The Stillwater (veggie) burger was falling apart with each bite and I was hoping the Backcountry Burger would be more flavorful. Despite the food being mid they have a nice selection of beers and I was glad to see several sour options available.

The food here was phenomenal! I particularly enjoyed the cheese curds. It tasted like the ones I loved from Wisconsin!! The service was great. Our waitress came by enough, but didn't feel like she was hovering. The restaurant is pretty casual.

Great place to grab a burger and fries. Service was welcoming and helpful! Relaxed feel. Their burgers are light and fresh! I love how buttery and soft their buns are. Perfect serving size. Their Brussels sprouts had a spicy Asian taste so yummy along with a refreshing kombucha .

Though there is no shortage of burger places in Bozeman, this place sticks out to me the most. Great burgers, their poutine is delicious, their fries in general are delicious and obviously cut and fried in house - not frozen like you may find elsewhere. They also have a *in Borat's voice* very nice selection of beer. It's also located in a great area, so if you have some free time, you can grab a bite here, then walk around and check out the various shops around.

Fantastic experience. The food and the service were excellent. Chicken sandwich were hi lights. Parking may take a few minutes in busy weekends. Will come again when in town.

This place was dee-lish! I got the French Onion soup and the burger. The service was fast and friendly. The French Onion soup was very tasty and the Parmesan was crusted on the side of the bowl just the way like.

A group of 8 of us have been vacationing at Big Sky Resort and have been having the worst customer service at Big Sky. We decided to take a day trip to Bozeman and this was our first stop of the day. BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE we have gotten on our week long trip!!! Our server Lucas was amazing!!! From the service, the food, to the atmosphere.... Phenomenal! Lucas knows how to serve his customers and was very knowledgeable in the drinks and food. This man deserves a raise as he was the man of the show. Thank you Lucas!

We came in after a long day of travel from MD and we visit Bozeman often as my daughter lives here. Our first time trying back country. We had cheese curds they were good. We had a house salad with blue cheese the salad was good but as someone who loves blue cheese dressing it was possibly the worst I've had. We had the bison burger and it was delicious! We also had Mac and cheese and it was not good. It was watery and just flavorless honestly and we all tried it and all agreed just not at all worth the calories. But being southerners maybe our standards are high lol wouldn't order again but would definitely come back here. We also had onion soup and that was also delicious. The bar was nice and open and the staff was very friendly and service was fast! Also loved the beers we tried. All and all I would recommend!

This is the best burger place in Bozeman. I get the Maria's and it's always great. The fries are good as well-but get the gravy you won't be disappointed. Great beer selection and service as well.

Food was good. But we got 8 small cheese curds in an order? Seemed a little light. Poutine was decent but the cooks didn't pour the gravy over the fries and instead poured in the bottom of the boat and then put the fries on top. Service was fast, which was nice. Calamity Jane burger was tasty. Food was tasty but cmon, gimme some more cheese curds with that order.

MUST TRY! Features Montana beef, locally sourced food. My go to menu item is the fried chicken sandwich. Lawd have mercy it's good! I like a lot of things about this place, but my favorite has to be the friendly, hard working staff. Our waitress gave us suggestions, joked along with us, and was an absolute joy the entire visit. Will definitely be back!

You wouldn't think to get French onion soup in a burger bar, but it was really good. And such a unique concept to have build your own Mac n cheese. There's a variety of topping choices. I went with bacon and spinach which was a great compliment to the creaminess of the cheese sauce. The twirl of the noodles also helped hold the toppings on each bite. We chose to have bison as our patty rather than beef and were very pleased. The burger choices are very creative. My Calamity Jane combined bacon, jalapeño jelly and scallion cream cheese. The flavor combination was incredible. My husband had the Trapper. It was basically a mushroom Swiss burger with upgraded cheese and GRAVY. Way to take it up a notch!! They also have a great selection of beers and other alcoholic drinks.

Grabbed food here before heading out to Yellowstone for the week and it definitely hit the spot. It was a little crowded but the service was still really attentive. If you are looking for an appetizer, don't sleep on the brussel sprouts. They have a delicious sauce. The buns are definitely homemade so that was a nice surprise and the French Fries are incredibly crispy. I wouldn't have wanted them any other way.

Excellent burger! Right in town. Great value. Everyone enjoyed their food! Quick service but not "fast food."

Passing through, we needed to grab some dinner before getting out in to the sticks and decided a burger sounded great. We'd been doing a lot of hiking and exploring the days prior and could use a proper dinner. I ordered their daily special burger and a side of the haystack onion rings. The food was REALLY good, but I could have finished two of those burgers no problem. A few hours later, I got in to our arsenal of road food and made a tuna sandwich. Aside from that, the flavors were amazing and I do recommend this place for a tasty treat.

We tried this place based on a recommendation from our hotel. We shared a poutine appetizer and got a burger as one entree and mac n cheese as the other. The service was friendly and the drinks never went empty. The food was delicious ! It was decorated. I let and it was clean. I would recommend eating here if you like a good smash burger !

Wow!! If you're on the fence about eating here... just go. Do it. Their burgers are so good!! I had the Calamity Jane... bacon, jalapeño jelly & scallion cream cheese. I'm mourning the fact that I live 2,024 miles away!! We also really enjoyed their fries with all 3 sauces & their onion rings!! So crispy!!

The Backcountry Burger Bar is an incredible place for lunch or dinner. The Marias burger is absolutely amazing! The bison meat was perfectly cooked and the cheese was melted onto my burger. The service was a little slow, but that was because every thing was home made and the servers were making it as tasty as they could. Though I wanted to, I could not give the ratings a 20 out of 5 stars. The burgers were so good, my cousin ate one in like 1 minute. The place was cozy and felt like a home but with no beds. However, it was a little loud (that just says how many people were there enjoying the food!!). I would definitely recommend this homey restaurant. *Written by my 9.5-year old niece.*

This was recommended as the best burger joint in Bozeman and burger wise I would definitely have to agree!! Our family came in and had practically every burger on the menu! The wildfire, calamity Jane, double backcountry, and Maria's burger were scattered across our table and all incredibly juicy and delicious! I ordered the Maria's burger and skeptical about the BBQ since I'm a solid ketchup and mustard only type of girl but the bison burger with the bbq was just *chef kiss* perfect. It hit the spot and paired with a basket of fries with garlic Parmesan dip? My mouth is watering just thinking about it! For having such a large group, we were seated quickly but the only downside was our server was super inattentive. He screwed up all of our tabs even after explaining twice but I think he may also have been the bartender? Overall great meal and great time!

Nice laid back place to go for a solid burger - right on Main St. Bozeman. Staff was friendly and the service was great. I had the daily special burger with lots of mushrooms and cheddar. You won't get a gargantuan monster that some places seem to think is better.... Just a very good tasty burger where you can taste the meat, as well as the add-on. Great place...

A great burger in Bozeman. Great service right when I walked in. I ordered the white porter. Never heard of that before buts it's a light looking beer that has bite like a coffee porter. Recommended by the staff and it was a great choice. I started with the curry fries which again I have never had but had great flavor. I then tried the wildfire burger and it came out looking plain but then BAM the damn thing had awesome flavor. I didn't leave a scrap of anything on this plate. I would definately come back. Best burger I have had in Bozeman so far! I can't forget McKenzie was fantastic behind the bar and gave me all the recommendations I ordered tonight.

Good quality burgers but the quantity is lacking The ambience was nice, server friendly and for me the music was spot on The Maria bison burger unfortunately was nothing unique but it was good. Was hoping for a different and special taste but no dice. The electric chicken sandwich was good but leave the sauce on the side, it's not Nashville hot sauce, it's more of a hot spicy chipotle, not my favorite. The poutine is where things really went wrong, I have had authentic poutine in Montreal and this was not it. Some basic fries, same as the normal order fries with a small amount of gravy and yes we counted them 9 cheese curds. I would skip this one and just opt for the normal fries which are basically the same thing. The kids burgers were just about the same size as the normal burgers which was nice but just like the other sandwiches none of the entrees come with fries so you are paying $14 for a kids meal without a drink.

Ordered bison burger and a side order of onion rings. Service was good but the food was ok. I've had better burgers for sure. Onion rings were shredded which was fine but seriously undercooked. Nothing special about the meal or the decor/ ambiance. Don't understand all the 5 star reviews.

Prices went way up and the quality is about average. Haven't seen a happy hour since COVID and don't really eat here often any more. Feels like every other burger spot in Bozeman has gone this way too.

Great food. Portions a bit small. I ordered a French onion soup to start and a burger. They both came out at the same time. I think the server should have asked if I wanted them brought out together or just the soup as a starter. Sigh. Service was efficient but not very welcoming. More mechanical in nature.

Service was excellent. Food, not excellent. Fried chicken sandwich was barely fried...not crispy at all. Fries were also NOT CRISPY. Dark in color and wilted. Cheese not melted on the sandwich. Disappointing.

The curry fries and the most delicious thing i have ever eaten. You HAVE to get the curry fries! Servers are awesome and friendly and the place is super cool on the inside!

For $50 I got two cold impossible burgers on stale buns and one order of grease drenched French fries. Won't be back. The employees were really nice though.

Second time back here. The food was good. Our server Rachel was very kind as we had a few food allergies but she made sure to get us what we needed.

The Calamity Jane was an all time great burger, staff was chill and down to earth, for sure make this a stop between Bozeman and Yellowstone

Visiting from out of state and local family recommended this place. We were there Thursday evening around 6:30pm for dinner. Our server, I think his name was Luke, was very nice. The beer and burgers were awesome. They don't come with fries so you have to order them on the side. They have a kids menu so ask for it. Basically $10+ burgers with no fries. Wife had the Electric spicy chicken sandwich. Like did advise it was very hot, and she confirmed it was extremely hot. We had to ask for silverware and napkins and took a bit to get a refill. Overall, a good place to eat!

The food is sooo dry and disgusting. You shouldn't have to rely on ketchup so heavily to get the bite down. I got the special of the day with blue cheese, bacon and spinach and I was nearly choking on every bite. The fries are charged separately as a side like most hipster places do nowadays, which makes the fact that they're soggy, dull and oily extra disappointing because it's like $4 extra. They needed some salt or something i dont know but dang. We also started with the chicken bites appetizer, which was 4 basic chicken nuggets. FOUR! For $9! It was tiny. Super disappointing experience. Only giving 2 stars because our waitress was kind and quick, felt like a relief getting to go home after. Bummer. Also i dont know if its just me with this opinion or not but their decor is awful! Pick a theme! Lime green wall, black and white snowflakes, cactus, bike wheels, what ?? Looks like a wannabe-outdoorsy college freshman went thrifting

Excellent Bison burger and poutine. The place was very busy on game day.... And without a delay I was seated and served. Food is delicious and the prices and portions are very reasonable.

The burgers were amazing and the service was great. The curry fries and garlic cheese, fries and cheese curds are must haves. This is a great spot for going out with a large group or a small group.

Great burgers and salads with friendly staff! I wish they had sweet potato fries!! The burgers were flavorful and hearty and I love that I could add a grass fed burger patty to my salad as my protein since I don't do buns anyways! Highly recommend!

The burger was good, but I felt like it was over priced compared to other burgers in the area. It was a smaller burger but still delicious. Sat at the bar so service was fair.

This restaurant has theee best burger that I have ever had!! Calamity Jane was unbelievably amazing. The fries were perfect - crunchy on the outside, a little soft on the inside, and just enough salt but not too much. We also had the kale salad which was so fresh and perfectly served. I would highly recommend this place!

Food was very average, service was worse. Best of luck getting your drink refilled. We sat for 10 minutes before being acknowledged.
