Backpack City & Surf

Didn’t have a good experience. The hostel is not clean, the pillows and blankets were gross, the kitchen is dirty that you don’t really want to cook or eat in there. There’s no keys to the room (even though there’s a key deposit), so I didn’t feel safe leaving my stuff in there. On my last day, the water from the toilet’s sink was running all yellow and dirty that I couldn’t even brush my teeth. Felt like nobody cared about the place and the guests at all.

At first when you look at this place online is the cheap price. Then when you arrive, you realise that the price is not only cheap but you get way more value than the price you pay for. When I first arrive I was greeted by the receptionist in a professional but friendly matter. I've been to hostel before but this was the first time I was given a tour of the property by a staff member which I believe just add value to your experience and help you settle in for your stay. The room and the property is comfortable and clean as you can see that the staff is taking care of the place in good manner and appropriate timing making the place feel like home. Shower, bathroom and the kitchen is always top notch as not only the staff take care of it but also travellers staying at this property. I have been staying for 2 weeks at this property and never have I seen a problem or felt that something was wrong. I even remember that one morning one of the shower broke. Some places would simply say whatever there is other shower on site but at City and surf the manager made sure that everything was back in order the afternoon of the same day. In conclusion I would gladly recommend this Backpack to any traveller in Perth should you be a student, a traveller or a professional going through Perth. Truly a home away from home.

My favourite hostel ever. It's not the fanciest, but it has lovely community, is kept clean, and is pretty quiet at night. I've made so many friends here and as an introvert I enjoy the very relaxed vibe. It's next to a temple, as well, so sitting out in the evening listening to their soft chanting is lovely.

Dont stay there!! Honestly that's the worst hostel I've ever been. Nothing is clean, everything is smelly. The bed is dirty and the pillow is yellow due to being old and not clean. The room is dirty in a general way. There was no key to the room, anyone could open it if they way. The common areas are dirty, rotten and broken. When I was leaving I wanted to brush my teeth and the toilet water was yellow.

Its a good hostel in terms of its location, not far from Perth train station. The wifi is better then most hostels and is also free which was a bonus. No TV room but i guess that just makes people come together. cheap rooms, for the most part clean. great staff.

This might just be the worst hostel in Perth. People here live like pigs, with no sense of hygiene whatsoever. The whole place looks like a garbage dump. The staff are probably amateurs, they have no idea how to run a hostel. Inspire of being so incompetent, they have the audacity of being rude to their customers. They don't even have proper utensils to eat from, they have little plastic plates which are always dirty. This place is not even worth 5 dollars let alone pay 20 dollars a night.

Hostel was good..clean and people friendly however one big thing let it down. You need to have a silence rule after 11pm for example because when it's 1am and people are going in and out the kitchen the door is extremely loud in the private rooms and then the thumping and bumping and slamming things is not good. It's disrespectful to others. Please set a silence rule from a certain time at night til a certain time in morning..I've seen this at most backpackers and it works..thx

Nice cozy backpackers with friendly staff:) It's really convenient in terms of location. almost everything is within walking distance!close to supermarket, asian shops, cafe and train station, etc!! The price is reasonable and I think you get what you expect with the price :) The facility is not new but clean and well maintained thanks to the manager and staff. I met alot of nice people here and I will definitely stay again when I need accommodatin in Perth! Thanks city and surf!!
