The Ultimate Japan Itinerary for 2025: From 1 to 3 Weeks

"I stayed at Backpacker Hostel K’s House and found it fun and social with a great central location; the rooftop terrace is a fantastic spot to hang out and meet other travelers after a day exploring." - Matthew Kepnes

Such a nice and clean hostel with friendly staff! It was my first time staying at a hostel and I had such a good experience. Beds don't have curtains but rooms and bathrooms were clean and very nice lounge space for socializing. Staff are very friendly and speak English but appreciate if you speak Japanese! Located close to Kyoto station (about a 10 minute walk) and easy to get around the area.

Lovely staff, comfy beds, shower products available and nice common room! Downsides were, only 3 laundry machines for 6 floors of people, a bit dirty compared to other hostels we’ve been to on our trip, no curtains on beds and very small rooms, so much so that you couldn’t open your locker at the same time as someone else. Charges for towel rental and my bed was directly under the aircon, so was pretty chilly! All in all, good for a basic stay for a few nights with lots of help on where to go in the area.

All in all I would definitely recommend this place! I stayed here for four nights with my friends (all girls) in a mixed dormitory with four other people that were always super kind! The room was a bit small which made it a bit stuffy at times although the ac fixed that pretty quickly. You have enough space for your belongings with a spacious cupboard under the beds. The beds themselves are very comfortable! The common area was especially nice, as well as the kitchen! The hostel is located in a quiet street close to the main train station and other subway lines. A brisk 15/20 minute walk to the center along a small stream. Would go here again, even solo

We received a warm welcome upon arrival and were pleasantly surprised to be able to store our luggage in a secure room free of charge — a very convenient service. The staff speak English well, which made communication easy, although at times their attitude could have been more friendly and welcoming. The hostel is split between two buildings. Our room was small but clean and equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. One point to note: during the day, staff entered our room to empty the trash without informing us beforehand. While this may be part of their cleaning routine, it would be better if guests were notified — so we recommend keeping your valuables secure. A nice touch is the free tea and coffee available in the lobby, which adds to the comfort of the stay. If you're looking for an affordable place close to Kyoto Station and the city center, this hostel is a great option. With a bit more warmth from the staff, it could easily be a 5-star experience

The staff is lovely and the location is perfect. The baths are nice and we really appreciated loaning a game from reception. However, there were no blackout curtains which makes it hard to sleep. Also, our room was badly insulated, we could hear the showers running from our room which was a bit unpleasant. Lastly, the staff emptied the trash in our room (which is great) but without us knowing. I wish they could let us know so we could take important belongings with us, because this makes me feel uncomfortable.

I stayed here over the week and really liked staying here. At first I was surprised because the rooms and facilities were mixed gender when I thought I booked for all women, but it was all good --- was just a new experience for me. 🙂 Staff are really really nice and helpful. Spacious and cozy common area, nicely equipped kitchenette, and with laundry too! Conveniently located of walking distance to 2 train lines.

Good location, walkable to metro station and some tourist attractions. Provides shoe rack and slippers to change upon entering, has lift to access all floors. Shared kitchen and common area is spacious and comfortable, provides kitchenware, stove, cutleries, coffee and tea. Toilets and bathroom are clean and equipped with hairdryer. There is storage under bunk bed but need to prepare your own lock and key. Has airconditioning in the room. Paid washer and dryer available.

This hostel is very clean with great amenities, but if you are looking for a fun social, party scene, definitely skip it. There is a great common area with a good kitchen and free coffee. Staff are very polite and welcoming. Everything is very clean. Central location. Close to Kyoto station. That being said, it's an even mix between twenty-somethings and 50+ people obviously on business trips. No one really talks to each other (other than to ask how the laundry machine works). Can't really, because the neighbors will complain of the slightest noise after sunset. Come here to have a relaxing home base, not to meet people and party. We will personally be choosing a seedier/grimier but more fun hostel next. Five stars because no false advertising, but know what you're paying for.
