The Ultimate Japan Itinerary for 2025: From 1 to 3 Weeks

"I stayed at Backpacker Hostel K’s House and found it fun and social with a great central location; the rooftop terrace is a fantastic spot to hang out and meet other travelers after a day exploring." - Matthew Kepnes

This is a hostel, so with that in mind, it was substantially better about the rooms than any hostel I have stayed in Japan. The security was second to none. It is within walking distance on the train station. It is close to one subway line. There are three buses that go to the station as well. There is a tremendous common area. The laundry is expensive. That might be a Japanese thing rather than a hostel thing

This hostel is very clean with great amenities, but if you are looking for a fun social, party scene, definitely skip it. There is a great common area with a good kitchen and free coffee. Staff are very polite and welcoming. Everything is very clean. Central location. Close to Kyoto station. That being said, it's an even mix between twenty-somethings and 50+ people obviously on business trips. No one really talks to each other (other than to ask how the laundry machine works). Can't really, because the neighbors will complain of the slightest noise after sunset. Come here to have a relaxing home base, not to meet people and party. We will personally be choosing a seedier/grimier but more fun hostel next. Five stars because no false advertising, but know what you're paying for.

Really affordable. The rooms are nice and clean, and the staff is very friendly. We liked the open common room where people could mingle and hang out. The coin laundry was also really great to have in the hostel — it's comparable to other coin laundries in the area. It was summer in Japan so we had to wash our things. The beds are a bit stiff — if that's your thing, no worries, but it wasn't mine. I didn't have a great night's sleep. Overall, I had a good stay. I've been to multiple K's House properties before, and they've always been affordable and friendly.

I found my stay to be quite pleasant, as the six-bedroom dormitory was clean, although guests are responsible for their own bed linens. The room provided luggage lockers, which could accommodate both a large and a medium-sized suitcase. Additionally, there were multiple showers available, and a communal lounge offered a convenient space to interact with other travelers.

I definitely recommend going there. Super friendly staff. We mentioned that the air-conditioning was a little smelly and the staff fixed it within 10 minutes. Super clean and organized rooms. To every bed there is a very big locker and power outlets on every bed. The common area is nice and very good for socializing. The kitchen is super clean and has good equipment. Showers and toilets are always clean and they even have one bathroom. I asked the staff for glue to fix my goggles and they provided it.

Its very affordable and so comfortable. Very friendly staffs and its common area are so comfortable to hang around. The area around the hostel is so safe and beautiful too with the river, shrine, and the bridges perfect especially on the summer. Bed in dormitory are quite comfortable and shower are good too. Its close to shichijo and kyoto station making it easy to wander around!

Super nice staff, we booked a private and the trash was emptied during our stay which was great :) common room super cute. Loved the fact that they had water filter pitchers too! All in all good and easy experience!

Functional. Staff were helpful. Room smelled like cigarettes despite a clear "no smoking" sign. Showers weren't too busy and work fine. It's very convenient that they have a little pizza-ish restaurant/pub right next door, esp. if you get in late and just want to eat without thinking about it.
