This was truly the worst accommodation experience of my life! The backpacker was filthy, the facilities were outdated, and the common areas looked like they were still under construction, yet the accommodation wasn’t even particularly cheap! The backpacker had around 20–30 rooms per floor, with each room accommodating up to 6 people, but there were only 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets on each floor. Isn’t that far too few?! On the day of my stay, when I returned to my room at night, I found someone else sleeping in the bed I had checked into! When I reported this to the staff, their solution was simply to give me a new set of sheets. They still charged me the full price! This wasn’t my mistake, so why should I have to bear the consequences? The backpacker manager’s attitude was also terrible. My three friends and I had booked the room together, and while I was actively trying to assert my rights, the manager hysterically told me to get out of the backpacker. He said he would refund my booking fee the next day but refused to refund the fees for my other three friends. It was all part of the same booking, so I can’t understand this absurd way of handling the situation! Let me state this clearly once again: this was the WORST accommodation experience of my life!

Rooms and building were a bit sketch but fine. Bathrooms were clean. The service was very good and accommodating! We checked in a night and the process was really easy and simple. Just a heads up: some people live in the hostel full time so it's less of a backpackers hostel. We were happy to only be there for one night.

It's okay for the price. However, if you are a light-sleeper or value your sleep, I wouldn't recommend this place. At about 9pm-10pm, a rattling started in the room above me. It continued through the night, and to add to that, a group of people started playing music and talking loudly (10 pm). The room was clean and tidy, with no complaints on the condition of the room, for the price. I would say that if you're looking for a place to stay for one night, this is sufficient. It's close to a SkyBus stop. Therefore, you can easily reach the airport.

My stay at the Backpackers Imperial Hotel was severely disappointing. The corridor was too dirty, with discarded toilet tissues lying around. The room itself was dusty and appeared as though it hadn't been cleaned prior to our arrival. To make matters worse, there was no hot water in the bathroom, forcing us to wash our hands and faces with cold water. Overall, I had hoped for a more enjoyable experience in Hobart, but the poor condition of the hotel fell far below our expectations.

I am trying to get some rest but the caretaker of your property is making a racket outside of my room past 10pm. It’smot your guests it’s yourselves. If you want to make.call don’t make it in the corridor outside guests rooms after 10pm this is unacceptable

Asked for some peace and quiet but the owner of this property enjoys having conversations out in the corridor past 10pm. When confronted he just ignores it - again this is not the guests this is the caretaker. The whole purpose I came here was to get rest having to wake up at 4am if you want sleep don’t expect to get it here.

For the price this is really good. Beds are super comfortable and the shared areas were filled with people but clean and quiet. I can see why it does get bad reviews tho, as I imagine we lucked out with our room.

Absolutely DISGUSTING place. Avoid it at all costs, and I literally mean it. Save your money and go literally anywhere else but here! The whole place is as filthy as it can get, and the service is beyond bad. The rooms look like jail cells rather than hostel rooms (just beds, lockers and a tiny side table, that’s it). The bedsheets were disgusting and moldy, the walls were stained and dirty, the floor is super dusty and stained and hasn’t been vacuumed in a looong time. Windows (which are ancient) can barely be opened and closed and bang during the night with the slightest of wind. The bathrooms were an absolute horror - both the toilets and showers (only one person can shower at a time in order to conserve water, yet there are many rooms in the hostel). Many of the tenants and guests live here and just do not care about hygiene and the person using the bathroom after them. The service is non-existent, if you have any kind of inquiry when it comes to checking in or out, good luck - the management simply does not care. They don’t pick up phone calls, they tell you to do (early) check out by dropping the keys in a key box at the reception, yet the reception is locked and inaccessible in the early morning? When I was booking, I had an some issues with it and had to call the reception/management, and after a few unanswered calls they finally pick up, only to be the rudest and most unprofessional customer service you can possibly imagine. Some of the guests/tenants play loud music in the hallways and the smoking area (while also being drunk/high) and scream and bang doors nonstop until like 2-3AM. Good luck if you wanna have a normal, good night’s sleep! They also say there is car parking, which there really isn’t. The only parking is the one on the city streets that you have to pay for, if you find a spot at all, unless it’s past 8pm when you can potentially find a free parking spot around the area. Again, AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. The owners and management should be absolutely ashamed of themselves to even be renting these jail cells out. I’ve stayed in many hostels around the world and this has got to be the worst, most disgusting, most unsafe place you can ever stay in.
