This is an excellent hostel. I shared a 4 bed women-only dorm/room, while my brother had a single room. Both had little balconies and featured all the amenities we needed. The shared room was bunk beds with 3 plug points per bunk, a lamp each & a shelf to put the stuff you need overnight + a big locker for everything else. The room felt secure and clean. The toilet/shower facilities on our floor were pretty plentiful (and all sealed rooms which felt safer & more private) and the large room of sinks meant that there were no queues to wash/clean teeth etc. Everything was cleaned to a very high standard. The welcome & check-in were very friendly & efficient and the communal areas were very attractive and relaxing. Overall this was a modern and very well finished hostel which I really enjoyed staying in as a way to make the trip budget stretch a bit further in expensive Switzerland. The only slight drawback is that it is about a brisk 15 minute walk from the train station and all the food spots, and about 20 mins from the Old Town, so a walk is required whenever you want food or to see the sights. It's a very straightforward & pleasant walk past a park and along a very long bridge/walkway, but I would think twice (as a woman) about doing it on my own after dark.

Rating: ★★★★★ (10/10) Date of Stay: 11 July 2025 Type of Stay: Solo 🛏️ Rooms & Beds The rooms were super clean, neat, and very well organized with a cute balcony! The beds were very comfortable, and I had a great night’s sleep. Each bed had its own reading light and power socket, which was a nice touch for late-night readers or charging your phone.also a little shutter for little privacy and more comfort to sleep 🤗 🛁 Bathrooms & Toilets The bathrooms and toilets were absolutely spotless; honestly, some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen in a hostel! They were cleaned regularly, and everything felt fresh and well maintained. Plenty of space and good hot water pressure too. 🍽️ Kitchen The shared kitchen is excellent—very well equipped with everything you could need to cook a proper meal: stoves, ovens, kettle, fridge, utensils, and more. There’s also a spacious dining area that feels social yet relaxed. 📍 Location The location is perfect—right on Lake Lucerne, literally just across the road. You can swim in the lake or relax by the water with stunning mountain views. It’s peaceful yet close enough to the city center to walk everywhere. Great access to local buses, (15 mins walk to luzerne station)supermarkets, and cafés. 📶 WiFi The WiFi works really well, not just inside the hostel, but even in some spots outside in the city! That was such a cool and unexpected bonus when walking nearby. 🧳 Luggage & Check-In I arrived before check-in, and the staff were happy to store my luggage safely. That made it really easy to go explore the town without dragging everything along. 👨‍💼 Staff The staff were super helpful and kind—always ready to answer questions, give directions, or just chat. They made the place feel warm and welcoming. 🧼 Cleanliness & Organization I cannot say this enough: the hostel is super clean, tidy, and well organized. From common areas to personal spaces, everything was well taken care of and it shows that they take pride in maintaining the space. ❤️ Overall Experience I lovedddd this hostel! Right from their idea of having single sex rooms😊It felt more like a cozy lakeside retreat than a hostel. Between the lake access, the friendly atmosphere, the amazing cleanliness, and the comfortable beds, this place was perfect. I’d absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Lucerne.

Very cordial, kind and friendly. We were able to check in very early (because of a happenstance). The common halls were very clean and accommodating. There was a projector to watch movies, board games, two kitchens, a 2player arcade, plenty of seating and lockers for luggage… so we were able to hang out and lounge the last day after checking out as we waited closer to our plane’s departure time. The rooms, bathrooms, and showers were also clean and tidy. Would definitely book again.

Can't complain, other than maybe the check-in time which was 5pm. An accessible yet calm location, clean rooms, very lovely common area, and friendly staff. Would recommend.

Wonderful woman working at the front desk. She gave lots of great advice on where to visit and to eat. Beautiful and peaceful location and felt super safe as a woman. Clean spaces and overall a great place to stay.

Lucern is lovely and Backpackers Luzern was a great place to stay. The bed was comfortable and the location was clean and quiet. So comfortable and welcoming after our long flight and train. I wish we could have stayed with you longer and hope to be back one day.

We had a 2 night stay at Backpackers Luzern in a 3-person private room. The lady at the check in desk was lovely by letting us check in at 2pm rather than 5, which was gratefully appreciated since we had disembarked a 13-hour sleeper train in Zurich that morning and were therefore ready to drop our bags in our room and rest. Our room was very clean and well presented; upon check in, we were provided bedsheets and linens to make up our beds. Our window was broken which meant that it could only be fully open or closed, which wasn't ideal in 30°C heat yet we were provided with a large fan which alleviated some of this issue and helped to keep the room cool. There was one shower room and one bathroom in our block (serving 4-5 rooms), as well as a sink cubicle with 4 sinks, although personally across the 2 nights I found that the wait for a shower room or bathroom was never longer than a few minutes. Other facilities at the hostel included 2 shared kitchens, a games area on the 1st floor, and a large communal area with dining tables and a seating area. The location of Backpackers Luzern was perfect for our two night stay, since it was only a 15 minute walk around the lake from the train station and Old Town. This was super pleasant since our trip coincided with very warm weather, meaning that we were very happy to walk into town to enjoy Luzern's facilities, views and activities. In the cold or dark during winter, however, I can imagine that the walk would have been far less enjoyable but there are good public transport links to behind the hostel as well if you don't fancy the walk. Further to this, the hostel was brilliant for providing us with Luzern visitors passes, which gave us discounts to many activities and restaurants within the city, as well as free public transport. We didn't really use this because we had pre-booked Mt Pilatus tickets and we were happy to walk into town, although it would have been super convenient had we needed to use it, and was therefore a really great bonus. Overall I would reccomend a stay at Backpackers Luzern, and would happily revisit in the future.

Yelp
Great independent hostel, friendly and welcoming. Quiet, clean, and comfortable. Quick bus ride from the train station, and transit is free with a card they email before checkin. It's a very short walk to a nice park along the lake, and a nice walk to the city center as well. Lots of useful info on things to see. The setup of the common area is great: meandering around between two kitchens, with lots of types of spaces. There's a kids corner with some toys, and a foosball table.

Yelp
My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights while in Luzern. It was about a 10-15 min walk from the main train station and downtown area. Most importantly, it was right next to a beach area, a great spot to people watch and see the boats go by. The staff was very friendly and accommodative, and we were impressed with the facilities. The kitchen area was stocked with everything you might need and there was a lot of lounge space on the main level. There were little seating areas by the staircases on each floor and plenty of bathrooms to go around. I saw some people hanging out in the evenings, but it was certainly quiet in the later hours, perfect if you're trying to get your sleep! Everything seemed to be clean and well taken care of. I highly recommend renting the paddle boards from the hostel, as they rented them out at a very discounted rate. I would stay here again if I was in the area!

Yelp
Right on the lake and so close to Luzern station, A cheap price and clean facilities, for what else are you waitin'?! No towels or breakfast: some quick tips for you. But there's a bakery nearby for a bite of food! The lady up front was nice and helpful, but the other guests were rather loud. Still, this place's a great deal, and convenient too- try it if you're around!
