Backyard Taco - Chandler

This place is one of the best in the East Valley. Starting with that Mesquite charcoal flavor that they grill with. You really can’t go wrong with any meat that they serve, but the Carne Asada is my favorite. You have to try the crazy potato. It’s just like a perfect baked potato filled with Carne Asada. Well if you choose that meat, and they add melted cheese onto it it’s just perfect. They really make everything fresh in house. And their salsa is one of my favorites!

Really good. But what happened to the rice and beans? Sampler portions? I like the fact that you can add guacamole and any other sauces that you want from the salsa bar. I was there at 2 o’clock on a Saturday. My order was ready before I finish pouring my self serve drink. Pretty clean, except for one sticky spot where I walked through in the middle of the restaurant. Overall good experience!

I Came in for dinner on Halloween night. This location has alot of seating and very clean and The food was very good /delicious. We had the steak and chicken tacos with beans and rice. Jalapeños and onions. I really liked the salsa bar. And Mr Alberto and Ms. Allie and the whole staff were all just very courteous and friendly. This will be my go to place. Also if you have questions in regards to catering contact Ms. Allie. 😊

Just introduced to this place by a buddy. Had to revisit again. I love chips and salsa. The bowl was my choice. 1st and 2nd time. Just love the place. Super clean. It's absolutely super clean. The staff are all well groomed. Like they actually care. Smiles on every. The manger was super attentive. Amazing. They have my business now. Will even use as a place to share with others when seeking a chill spot to relax.

Food tasted okay. Id say the food overall was a 6/10 taste wise. The beans were my favorite those were fabulous.. everything else was meh. I ordered the tacos and they give you 3 tiny street tacos with a very small serving of beans and a very small serving of rice on a Styrofoam plate lol... I looked at my fiance and said this atmosphere looks so nice in here and they serve their food like this ? Idk let's just say that I wasnt expecting the food to come out looking so cheap and it was not that cheap.

Never disappoints! If you want a great burrito, backyard taco is the place. Carne asada is very good, go for the extra meat, it’s well worth it. Chips and salsa also a must.

I hesitate to do this review, because I didn't like the place and I don't know why, it was clean, maybe too clean if felt like a cafeteria. Maybe they charged like a sit down restaurant but felt like a drive thru. Not bad exactly, just expected more. Food was fine but forgetable

Awesome place, it's probably a good thing I'm from out of town or I would be here everyday. Excellent service as well, will make sure I stop by every time I come back to Phoenix.

Love this place! Which they had one closer to Ahwatukee. We get the steak and chicken tacos and the delicious baked potatoes. Their flan is a little more like flan cheesecake texture instead of actual flan. Wish they had chips and queso. The black and whole beans don't have lard and are delicious. Highly recommend!!!

Got a burrito. It was very good and filling. Meat was tender and flavorful. Tacos were enjoyable as well. Good for a quick meal. Seating was offered inside and outside. Very fun/vibrant place

Love coming here for a quick and good option! They have taco Tuesday deals. I love their salsa/toppings bar with the unlimited options. I love their chicken and birria tacos! Indoor and outdoor seating available. Great customer service!

So we came here late last night! They were surprisingly busy which is always a good sign. The staff was super organized, we had never been to the guy who assisted us had some excellent recommendations. We went with the chicken tacos and the steak tacos with a side of chips and salsa. It was all so good, a bit messy but I'd totally do it again. The place was super clean, spotless which is not what I expect from a good taco shop but they exceeded out expectations! The salsa bar alone is worth coming back for, we'll be back!

We love this place we always go here and we love that they are closed for Sundays to let their employees take a day off! And the food is always the absolute Bomb!

Went here with my family to try it out. It's super clean inside and they have an amazing open bar area to grab pico, salsas etc. The overall price seemed reasonable as I ended up grabbing the bowl with the carne asada. The amount of meat was decent but the toppings were really good and fresh. The beef itself tasted good and didn't seem overcooked at all. I did go to the salsa and guacamole bar area several times as they included great chips (unlimited with what we ordered). Overall, I'd highly recommend trying this place out!

I actually love this place a lot. I've been to a couple locations and BOTH had wonderful integration between indoor and outdoor seating which take advantage of our beautiful weather. The lighting is lovely and makes this place a great evening dining spot to enjoy Arizonas warm nights with a comfortable, casual atmosphere. The food is good as it comes but it is what you make it and the taco bar makes it very easy to customize to your taste. I will say I'm normally a salsa verde person but their spicy salsa roja is where it's at. Lastly the flan gave me the happy wiggles. Mega yum.

Backyard Taco in Chandler is a nice place to have a meal with an extensive menu. When recently visiting, I was able to meet one of the owners and appreciated learning more about the history of the restaurant. Backyard Taco is a casual dining themed Mexican restaurant that specializes in authentic backyard/party menu items. They sell tacos, gorditas, burritos, and other specialities such as stuffed potato burrito bowls. The al pastor had a nice flavor and they have a full salsa bar loaded with options. The prices were very reasonable and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I would definitely go back again.

Okay coming from San Diego I have high expectations for nice street tacos and burritos. This place doesn't stand a chance against Old Town but I will be going back. Pretty good. My daughter asked to go back so that's a plus.

Just left it's about 9:30 we waited in line for a solid ten minutes for an order i called in. Didn't mind cause we did come late. What I did mind was how disgusting the customer service was. The girl who took my order was working the drive through and was rude and bothered. If you can't even say you're welcome why are you working in customer service? Despite her attitude we still tipped her and she practically scoffed when we asked for salsa which we had gotten none of. Looks nice from the outside and I wanted to love it but was just so disappointed. Portions were also on the small side which again wouldn't have complained if service had been better or if we had at least been given salsa or at least treated like paying customers worthy of respect.

I am so bummed! Every time I watch "Check please Arizona" I go running to the highly recommended restaurant and it is such a letdown! Recently on that show they said these tacos were GREAT!!! Yech- mediocre at best- NOT FOR ME ... one and done. I will not return...

My new favorite Mexican restaurant!! BEST beans and rice I've ever had. Fresh, delicious tacos and quesadillas, guacamole and salsa. Love the salsa bar complete with fresh, crunchy veggies. And the fresh grilled jalapeños and onions are scrumptious. Did I say the food is fresh? Management and service were also excellent. My only regret is that I wish I had tried Backyard Taco sooner! Highly recommend!

Not bad. But the chicken and steak tasted a bit weird. They had a strong stove after taste . Maybe they don't clean the stoves frequently throughout the day and it leaves an aftertaste of other foods that have been grilled on it. It wasn't too pleasant to be honest . However , the orchata tasted great and kudos for keeping this place clean.

Quite possibly the best birria taco I've had! The carne asada was just ok. I would 100% return for the birria taco. They have a huge salsa bar with tons of salsas, cucumbers, limes and radishes. Highly recommend getting a bag of chips to munch on as well. Very good and we will be back!

Staff is always friendly and food is delicious. Frequent this location and they are pretty consistent. I usually switch between the carne asada or birria burrito. The drive thru is pretty convenient too.

We've gotten carry out from here on several occasions. Always on taco Tuesday so we get the discount. It's always been good and will continue to eat there.

Another place where the front cashier has no idea if the chicken they serve is chicken breast. The menu just says chicken and nobody was really interested in helping, except for the silly welcome greeting the owner forces the staff to say. I did try an item with Birria that was pretty good, but this place has NO RICE to offer. We aren't in Mexico, so we don't need things to be that authentic. Make some damn rice.

This was one of the worst meals I've ever paid for. The meat was so dry that it reminded me of dog kibble, you can't just use hot holding for meat all day long. It was so dry and flavorless that I almost spit it out. It was pricey too, $20 for three tiny tacos with beans and rice, so I wasn't even full either. Pretty much a complete waste of money.

It's like I'm a fan or something. You can bet your (carne) asada I'm a fan! Like all locations, you can expect the same great tacos here. Birria on a corn tortilla, tacos al pastor on a corn tortilla, and a carne asada on a flour tortilla is all I need to be a happy camper. This location is spacious and immaculate. They have disposable gloves you can use at the salsa bar (which sad to say, I didn't see too many people using) and the staff here is nice. Grab a huge cup of that avocado crema and go to town on some tacos. You won't be disappointed.

A new taco place (new to me) that I'll be visiting as much as possible! Got turned onto this restaurant thru a local PBS show called Check Please. Their review of this place was spot on. When I walked in I stood back to view the menu and the Mgr/Owner approached asking if it was my first time and how I came by them. He told me that episode was filmed in their location and then covered the entire menu with me explaining the different meats and items you could have the meat in. They have 4 choices of meat: Carne Asada, Birria, Al Pastor and chicken. The way he described how the birria was cooked made me want to try it (I don't eat beef and wanted it). The first 2 are beef, Al Pastor is made from pork. I have had Al Pastor in Mexico many times and once at a Latin festival in Phoenix and absolutely love it because of the chili seasoning and pineapple marinade. You can have your meat come in a choice between tacos, burrito, tostada, Gordita, quesadilla, bowl or my choice the crazy potato. Currently they don't have rice for their bowl dish however, just that day he was trying different cooked rice recipes for an addition to it. After you get your order their is a salsa bar and an assortment of pickled veggies to compliment your meal. In the crazy potato they top it first with sour cream and cheese. Only disappointment was a lot of the cheese ended up on the side of the foil surrounding the bowl. The especially nice part is the potato is already chunked up for you so you can get potato with every bite! The Al Pastor rivaled what I had in Mexico. It was tender and flavorful. You get plenty of meat to satisfy. After eating the crazy potato and horchata I left satiated and happy. The manager came back later and asked how I liked my dish. Really enjoyed the friendliness of him and everyone who worked their. They know the meaning of customer service. The restaurant was spotless. As soon as someone left a person came out and wiped down their table. Oh something else that impressed me the modern dispensers for your napkins and utensils. A machine gave you exactly 2 napkins (usual amount needed for one person) and the utensil dispenser gave you exactly 1 fork or knife. Why was I impressed by this? It was sanitary and reduced unnecessary waste! How many times have you pulled the lever of other machines and gotten 2 forks that fall out on the counter? People always take more napkins than they need and they end up thrown out after their meal. Keep up the good work Backyard Tacos you have a diehard fan that will be back to try more on your menu! Please open a location in Ahwatukee or somewhere along I-10 please!

I love their carne asada!!! The Birria is pretty good too. Be sure to try the jalapeño salsa.

Food was delicious as always! The cashier guy was super friendly too! (I'm sorry I missed your name) It's very clean and orderly and I love their salsa bar. People need to come here often it's a nice spot. Their steak is superior so I always get their carne asada tacos with both regular corn soft tortillas and on a tostada! Horchata was really good (not grainy)!

Good place for tacos and it was near our home. When we came here on 6/30/21, there was no cars in the drive thru. We ordered 4 carne asada tacos ($2.90), 2 al pastor ($2.65), and 2 pollo ($2.65). It was made pretty quickly and we were on our way. The tacos all tasted delicious to me and we definitely ordered the right amount since it hit the spot. There were other things on the menu like burritos that I wanted to try on the menu. We came at a later date to try the carne asada burritos and those were delicious. It was the same meat used in the tacos and the burrito itself was a good size. Good tacos and burritos here and I would come back for some more food.

$7.31 out the door for a bean and cheese burrito and the cheese was non existent. There are 4 other Mexican restaurants on Gilbert Fast casual SB $5.60 LF $4.80 Fast food DT $1.70 TB $1.69 7.31 for beans cheese and tortilla is absurd and this location has had notorious problems with drive through quality and getting everything you ask for. I've never loved a place so much and been so constantly disappointed.

I was hesitant when I saw the popular Crazy Potato on the menu. How could an authentic taco restaurant have something as silly as a Crazy Potato? I tried it and I absolutely love the flavors together. The toppings are all full of authentic flavor ! I went for carne asada meat and was very pleased with the tenderness , quality and flavor. It's the carne asada this area has been missing. I've been back about three times with my family and we have tried several items. My favorites are the birria or carne asada Gordita , birria tacos, any of the crazy potatos - so delicious. The kids like the chicken bueno bowl and chicken crazy potato. Salsas ! Many to choose from and all are wonderful. The birria sauce was good but too hot for me. So I stuck with the pico and guacamole salsa. You can never have too much pico and cilantro . Now if they would just add a machaca and egg burrito for the weekend crowd that would be amazing.

I had 3 tacos, beef, chicken and AL pastor. The pastor was delish but chicken and beef were kinda dry. Probably won't go again unless it is someone else's idea. Wasn't horrible but wasn't great.

Regretfully tonight was the last time I will be going to this location. While the food is great, the only thing consistent about the service is something will be left out of your order. Too many nights someone in my family had to dig in the fridge for leftovers because we discovered their dinner was missing once we got home. If you choose to brave this place be sure you check your order before you drive away. A note to the manager - refunding me for the item YOU missed in my order after arguing with me is not called customer service, it's called not stealing my money. Customer service (if you really cared about it) would look more like offering a coupon for our next visit for the trouble. A strategy like that might actually encourage me to give you a fourth try after screwing up 3 orders instead of getting on yelp to share your shortfalls.

Came here for taco Tuesdays and they did not disappoint. They have $2.25 carne asada tacos which I have been wanting to try for sometime. Tacos were good and have cabbage and onions on top. They also have a red sauce which to me is pretty close to a salsa that they add as well. The meat was good, had more flavorful other places, but the portion size made up for that. Tacos are amazing with the amount of meat you get thus the five stars. Definitely will be back. They also have a drive through which is a plus.

Tried this for the first time. I thought the food was good the tacos were excellent, they are street taco size. The Al Pastor taco was especially good, good flavor. The salsa bar had lots of choices, the red creamy sauce is super hot I could just use a little. The Tostada was a little disappointing it was just a tortilla, beans and cheese, that's it, tasted good but I would probably not get it again. The chips and salsa was average the chips were ok but the salsa was good, also it was a serving for 1 maybe 2 people. This place is not for everyone, obviously if you read other reviews, but it's good to me and I will be back.

What kind of kitchen doesn't put cheese on a quesadilla? This is chopped, grilled chicken and a tortilla... Actually ridiculous considering the overpriced portions. Can guarantee I will not be returning. If you don't want to be disappointed with the food you're paying money for, DO NOT EAT HERE.

The food is great, but the staff not so much. There is always the same girl at the window whose rude, doesn't say a word to you, and shuts the window super fast before you can even ask for anything. When you ask for salsa she gives you attitude. I ordered a Birria burrito and asked for no cilantro, drove all the way home to see it LOADED with cilantro. She obviously didn't listen. Came back to get my burrito fixed and the cook was rude handing it to me.. if I were the owners of this location I'd find new staff immediately I won't be coming back to this location.

I ordered the Birria tacos and there was nothing birria about them. they were dry, had no cheese, didn't come with any consommé for dipping.. there was no sauce on them at all. i got a side of refried beans & they were cold.

My friend was going on and on about this place. We were not all that impressed. Again, I will try eating there before I cement my opinion. Some foods do not Uber well.

Very Convenient and good food. I celebrated my son's birthday with him (we both work from home) and had this delivered. It was absolutely perfect. Knowing I could count on their quality and speedy service, I brought my mom for lunch a week later. As usual, great service and great flavors. Thank you so much.

First-Time Customers Due to Covid my family and I decided to go through the drive thru. Ordered 1 Chicken Taco Family meal ( Half corn tortillas and Half flour) and 3 Beef Tacos flour tortillas. We was given enough condiments for our meal (Red & Green Salsa & Guac? Idk we didn't eat that one because it was runny & suspicious) The meat though!!!! Very flavorful and tortillas well made not too doughy or hard. The only SUGGESTION I would provide would be to invest in the separation of your ground shredded lettuce, sauteed onions, roasted whole peppers, and grilled onions!!! Having all provided on ONE styrofoam plate covered with foil doesn't make good, (maybe small separated styrofoam CUPS WITH LIDS), especially when you don't ask patrons if they even would like any of it, or just a couple sides. Our mouth's were on fire!!!

Not super impressed but will give this place another try. Went on opening weekend and the girl at the drive-thru wasn't friendly and hardly acted like she wanted to help me order. Quesadilla was good and the burritos were very large, however the chicken seemed dry. The Asada Burritos was very scrumptious and I loved the hot sauce options. I wanted to love this place but I think I need to try again in case I had a bad experience towards opening.

Cinco E Mayo and what no Margaritas. It wasn't completely full so I got the Message. I really wanted a drink but decided to stay anyway. My taco was not bad but the burrito was way too big for my belly. Next time I would just have 2 tacos. I thought the food was tasty and I would return.

This place is just 4 miles from the house and I've seen it under construction waiting for a good opportunity to try. Service was quick and friendly. One of the managers (brand ambassador) was making sure everything was good. Nice clean airy atmosphere. The Al Pastor tacos are delicious. The carne asada and pollo tacos are quite good too, they do need the sauce on them otherwise a little dry. Simple menu done well.

Just went through the drive through and had a simple order messed up !!! Check your order when you go there. Clearly ordered 2 tacos 2 tostadas and one chip and salsa. Got 2 tacos 1 tostada and 2 chips and salsa. But the "we care less part about what we are doing" Is the 12 sides of limes to go with the 2 little tacos . . .

Went here last night...Absolutely disgusting. The gal who took my order was unhelpful and super impatient. I had never been here so I didn't know the ins and outs of the menu. I watched them make the burritos, the 2 kitchen cooks kept looking at me suspiciously. Which made me suspicious and was afraid they would do something to my food. Next to the food an employee was cleaning the grill and spraying degreaser which I'm sure was getting sprinkled all over the food. Yuck. We got home and our burritos had been soaked in grease. They purposely dipped the tortillas in grease. Spent over $40 and we could not eat our food. The manager needs to contact me after reading this.

Well, this place wasn't as I expected. Especially for the price. They offer no rice and burritos taste very bland.

I had this before at the mesa location. I absolutely love there tacos . And that crazy potato is pretty good as well. Reminds me of street food in LA . Well closest to it at less. LA is forever my home and always has fire ass food. Anyways... service is always great and this location in chandler the restaurant is super huge and very clean

My family and I ordered from this location last minute from a third party app, quite satisfied. The food came fresh and fast. We had the family pack (1 pound of a Birria along with 16 tortillas and salsa) quite tasty along with beef gorditas. The gorditas alone were full of meat and cheese and satisfying. The to-go bags were full of napkins, assorted salsa's, and of course the food. We will definitely be ordering from here again!

In the Drive thru The first time I went to the Chandler location I signed up for the app and was not able to use the free taco. The person at the window said the system was down so they gave me a coupon for a free taco. My next two visits have not gone so well using the coupon, At the drive thru my paper receipt and what I was charged on my credit card have been different. The first time I caught it at the reader. Then the person at the window complained that the wifi was not good and things don't always work. Blaming the wifi for the register and cc reader not sinking. today I asked if the app was working an was told by the same person that the wifi was bad at this store and to take a screen shot. She read the bar code on my phone and it took off 1 taco. looked at my paper receipt it showed 2 tacos and one was subtracted. GREAT the app is working. then about 10 minuets later the text from my bank showed the original total. Then I realized I had to make them change the total on the card reader. So I have decided to not go to this location any more. But seeing as the other locations are nowhere on my daily paths I probably just wont go to any locations. To bad I really liked the food and my wife who doesn't like Mexican food actually liked yours.

Maybe the best tacos ever. Hard to beat for the price. Usually street tacos have almost no meat but that was not the case here. I will be back for sure.

The tacos are good. They've got flavor. I'm from California so Paying more than $1.50 for street tacos to me is absurd but their price was about the average for the area. I'm keto so it was nice to get some keto options. I got a custom ketodilla (trademark pending). I asked for a chicken melted between cheese. They put it in a bowl so close enough lol it was good. Then I got a Birria Bueno bowl with no beans, added cheese and sour cream but they forgot to add it so it was just meat. The birria was good tho. My bd enjoyed his tacos and quesadilla Overall I'd eat there again.

Delish! The service and food was amazing! Came for dinner with the family they did not disappoint!
