After a reservation mix-up in Rapid City, we decided to push on a little further, and called the first place with a good rating listed on any Internet site. It was in Wall, and we weren't expecting much, having been through this area before. But, wow! We've been on the road for 21 days, we're one long day from home, and we lucked into the best stay of our trip.
The only reason you might not like these convenient, comfortable cabins is if spending the night in the home furnishings department of Cabela's would give you nightmares. The furnishings were genuine log furniture, including the king sized bed (mattress so comfortable that I wanted to bring it home), moose-themed hooks, outdoor themed lighting, dream catcher above the bed, and embroidered thick towels. There was a porch with chairs made of the same huge logs, and a view of the meadow. Parking right next to the cabin. Coffee maker, microwave and the largest mini fridge I've seen. Plenty of room to stretch out, couch and two chairs, functional windows, and nice heavy wooden blinds. TV with cable. Sink outside toilet/tub area, large mirror. Wall air conditioner that kept up with the summer heat. Even a fly swatter hung by the door, which is a good idea, because you are right in the middle of the great outdoors. The shower was wonderful, hot and strong, and everything worked as it should. I usually hate those "shower head on a hose" things, but this one was so well-designed that it didn't matter.
We looked at the breakfast served in the gift shop and decided to drive further, because I like fresh oatmeal, but everything looked like it was ready for the families who would soon be coming in, including boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy, muffins, and the other standards of a continental plus breakfast.
Check in and check out was flawless and friendly. They do close the desk at 10:00 pm, like most of Wall, but there is a number to call if you are late. And if so, you might want to eat before you get to Wall, unless you don't mind a burger in a paper basket from the bar downtown. (Which was pretty good, actually.)
This is a well-designed, well-kept gem of a place, and if you get a chance to stay here, you will enjoy it.
