I got to know this store when it’s located in a magnificent Japanese traditional house. They moved here last year, due to their brand philosophy. (As Japanese shrine has a tradition where every 20years,they would tear down the old shrine and rebuilt one- the event is called Shikinen Sengu)
The new store was designed and built by the famous photographer and architect, Hiroshi Sugimoto. The details are incredible and I could see how he made this store based on In Praise of Shadows(an essay on Japanese aesthetics from 1933)philosophy.
You could see how much thought they put into what they create, from the store to the clothing line. It is always fun to get a glimpse behind the comfortable and unique pieces. Their indigo and natural indigo jeans are my personal favourite.
