Pretty cozy spot - portions are great, they do put a very generous amount of cream cheese on the bagels which is a nice thing. Queue times are average, staff was nice with their suggestions. Highly recommend trying the half guac - half cheese if you’re looking for a flavorful experience!

Google
Very laid-back atmosphere with plenty of seating indoors and a nice patio outside. They offer a great variety of bags at very reasonable prices. Plus, the dedicated parking lot is a big convenience.

Christopher M

Google
Bagels are good! The queue moves incredibly slowly though. The cashiers could reconcile this by not trying to chat up every customer like it's a bar.

Google
Best drip coffee outside of my house hands down. Shook me! Dark and deep, not bitter or acidic. Wow 🤯! Great bagels, split the Deluxe Lox and it was perfect. Tomatoes look like they grew them on the spot, ripe and juicy. Everything bagel is my jam. Bags of day old bagels up for grabs but you better get there early cause people were walking out the door with their arms full. Very ample fish and cream cheese to bagel ratios. 👌🏼 Full and satisfied but looking forward to my next visit.

Google
Bagel sandwiches were great. My sister got a vegan cream cheese on hers and she says it was amazing (unless they forgot and put real cream cheese on there lol)

Ying T

Google
Love the vibe there! It has a nice little cozy yard full of plants! My lox bagel is very yummy! Bagel is itself is so so, it could be fresher.

Google
Fast pickup orders & excellent price for a bagel & egg sammy. Makes it easy to get takeout for a work pal because it’s affordable & I barely wait if I pay and order online. A favorite for our office for this reason!

Google
As soon as I walked in, I heard Ms. Lauryn Hill playing. That's what did it for me! The food was absolutely amazing. Not one complaint, only compliments. Everyone in there had great vibes and I couldn't have been more impressed. Top notch quality!

Jason W.

Yelp
I loved the scrambagel, i highly recommend adding some add ons. I did Sausage and tomato. It was 10/10. Be prepared for a long wait though.

Jessica P.

Yelp
While it may be busy and have a line sometimes, the service is super quick! Prices are reasonable and the bagel sandwiches are so good!

James B.

Yelp
What a little gem. Not busy on a Sunday morning. Fast service. Food was delicious. Had the scrambagel. Added bacon and green onions. Older building with outdoor seating for dog.

Marc N.

Yelp
Overpriced. Safeway does much better. Not recommended. Not another customer in sight. No wonder.

Vicky P.

Yelp
This place was good! I do have to say, the menu is extremely confusing and difficult to understand/order from. We were trying to figure out what to order and the cashier told us to just disregard the menu and order what/how you want. So I think that's the easiest way to go. Everything was really good and the sandwich was really good. The eggs are cooked perfectly and include green onions which I really like. Only critique is the confusing menu and the bagel are much smaller in size diameter wise, but they are dense and thick. Whereas I prefer a thinner bagel, but that's just personal preference. The bagels were still really good and fresh and lots to choose from! Service was also really nice and quick! Lots of seating inside.

Yelp
Ordered: - Scrambled Egg Bagel with Jack Cheese - Berry Bagel - Hot Cider - Hot chocolate LOVED the Berry Bagel and Hot Chocolate. No comment on the hot cider (my first time). The Scrambled Egg Bagel was a bit stale in my opinion... also, they forgot about the Jack Cheese. We were on a schedule so we shrugged it off, but forgetting the 90-cents-add-on cheese is not a good look. The cashier was super sweet, and called our names for the drinks clearly. I guess they have someone else call names for bagel orders, because we did not hear our names for the bagels at all. We were dining in, so we sat at a table and listened from there. But the tables have tall walls, so you can't see the cashier/pick-up area without standing up. My crush and I were just sitting and keeping our ear out for our names, but we only ever heard the cashier call out more names for drinks. Our toasted bagels were cold because the person calling names for food wasn't very vocal or cares to repeat themselves. Overall, loved the Berry Bagel so I would come here again. I'll just probably order to-go and make sure my order is right next time before leaving. If dining in, don't sit by the OPEN windows. A homeless man passed by and the stench of piss lingered in the air for a while. The other tables seemed fine though.

Yelp
Bagelry, bagelry... very affordable, especially for the area. Unfortunately, the bagels themselves aren't so good. Came here with friends and we all agreed the bagels were very small and a bit stale. Sometimes when you bite into a bagel it has that fresh, doughy flavor/texture. Well, you won't find that here. Not terrible, but not good. I got the egg and cheese scramble on an everything bagel. Super mediocre, but again very affordable and I enjoyed sitting in the patio area. The service varied drastically depending on which employee was helping me. Due to lack of better options I'm sure I will once again end up at the Bagelry when I'm hungry for breakfast in Santa Cruz.

Catrina R.

Yelp
A local brought us here for breakfast. One of the best bagels I've had in a long time! A variety of different schmears and the bagels were so perfectly made. They are thick but soft inside. Outdoor and inside seating. Even though there was a big line it went by super fast. Definitely would go back!

Victoria B.

Yelp
All of the workers were very nice, and they were all moving around quickly taking orders and making sandwiches. I ordered an egg sandwich with bacon, and as you can tell it was a bit on the sad side. I totally forgot to order the sandwich with cream cheese which would've helped a lot. The bagel had good flavor, but was very dense and heavy in my opinion and not the chew that I prefer. Not my go to, but I see why people enjoy coming here. I did thoroughly enjoy the liveliness and how busy it was the whole time we were there

Marko J.

Yelp
The food was spectacularly here!! A wide interesting menu. It seems like they have hummus bagels, cream cheese sandwiches, egg ones and tons of different bagel types to choose from ! The price is so affordable we got a salmon with lox and an egg bagel with extra guacamole for under 20 dollars. My bagel was the egg bagel with melted cheddar cheese and I added guacamole for 1 dollar it was so good! It wasn't too salty or too cheesy. It filled me up right away. The guacamole was a nice add on. I had a lox bagel (plain bagel)!!! It was soooo yum! The salmon was nice and fat and juicy, it also came with green and or red onions, and it was just perfect! The bagel was also pretty affordable and definitely worth it! The ambiance was so cute! There was cute outdoorsy place and the menu board was laid out so well. This place is definitely worth a stop and it's such a good price!

Sara M.

Yelp
Really cute breakfast place in Santa Cruz, I wish I had discovered it earlier. The workers are really fast and get the food out quickly. The prices are also on the lower end for what you are getting. I found this to be one of the most affordable foods in Santa Cruz. I will definitely be coming back when I am in town.

Wallace S.

Yelp
So much hype and it's an absolute fail. Bagels taste like they were made a week ago. Hard and flavorless, eggs also flavorless. Took one bite and threw in the trash. This couldn't have been a worse bagel. McDonald's is right down the street. I decided to go there instead. No joke place is miserable.

Sirena Y.

Yelp
On our way out of Santa Cruz we stopped at The Bagelry for some quick bagels to go since they have gluten free bagels and my husband has a gluten sensitivity. To our surprise they had two gluten free bagel flavor options; plain and everything. My husband got the plain scrambagel which he very much enjoyed - pretty much no restaurants or bakery's have gluten free bagels. He also had a hot coffee which he said was really quite good coffee. The rest of us gluten eaters ordered a plain scrambagel with cheddar cheese, blueberry bagel with raspberry cream cheese, and a raisin bagel with butter. All were great! We happily at our bagels in the parking lot and we're on our way. I would definitely come back and am interested in trying their other bagel flavors, bagel sandwiches, and even their soup.

Ranice L.

Yelp
It was packed on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered the pesto bagel with cheese Louise as well as the berry cream cheese bagel. The bagel was not soft at all, a tad bit stale. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again but for a quick snack it's not bad. It sadly comes no where near New York bagels.

Santa Cruz A.

Yelp
Went in and placed my order, took about 20 minutes and they forgot my main ingredient. Super disappointing because they forget my tomato every time. Bought it five times and no tomato, considering it's extra $.

Jake M.

Yelp
There's nothing good to say about this place except that it is one of the cheaper meals available downtown. These are awful, bready, 70s hippy bagels that bear little resemblance to the real thing. I pray every day for a real bagel maker to come to Santa Cruz with a brick and mortar location.

Saketh A.

Yelp
Pretty nice place to bring your friends and family. Relaxed, chill and laid back type of environment. I bought the tomato spread with garlic bagel and it's a rare find to get the tomato spread so brownie points for that haha. Staff are friendly, good seating and a small private parking right next door free in downtown. Parking can get packed fast so might be a little struggle to find close by parking.

David V.

Yelp
Very nice setting and that's paired well with their food and customer service of course! Would recommend for anyone who struggles with social anxiety.

Grant D.

Yelp
Great place was able to mobile order in the morning and pick up when the store opened. Great value!!!

eric g.

Yelp
This place is consistent GOAT bagel period! You can tell immediately in the simple yet ingenious way they wrap their bagels into two separate sides keeping the cream cheese cool and shaped that this crew knows what's up. No bagel bummer of runny cheese and having to pull apart the stuck halves. Super pro move. The bagels are dense chewy, yet perfect crisped (again pro move to even account for the toasting time which brings that skin crisp to perfection). All the toppings are awesome, all the bagels are awesome and the staff here are a joy to interact with. Such a great space filled with light, good music, vibes and community. Perfect location on a cool little downtown st and has a cool little patio area. A true SC gem.

M L.

Yelp
Quick service , fantastic food , hot the tomatoe basil bagel with cheese Louise and omg! Fire !!! Wasn't busy for a Sunday morning! Plenty of people sitting inside and outside eating. Will return when I visit town.

T D.

Yelp
it's tough to differentiate a bagel but they managed. in from out of town and thought I'd grab a local bagel. Got the smoked albacore and red onion cream cheese bagel. Wonderful. Really liked it. Their bagelry blend or whatever the house brew coffee was tasted as good as the best coffee I've ever had which was blue mountain coffee on vacation in Jamaica. Really really good. Overall great place friendly staff. Good coffee good bagel.

Samantha A.

Yelp
Best bagel i had in a while my partner and i went here it was dog friendly and there was so many places to sit outside. I got a lox bagel and it had so much good stuff in it not just the regular capers, cream, lox. I was so full and my oartner got a cheese and egg even with the simplicity if it it was so filling warm fresh and super tasty

Sabeena B.

Yelp
I would realistically give this place a 3.5/5 stars. The place it self is very spacious but I didn't find it very clean. I got the scrambagel with cream cheese on an everything bagel and my partner got the lox and cream cheese bagel on a gluten free bagel. The bagel I got was a bit hard and there was barely any cream cheese on it. I did like the egg a lot though. My partner said that for $11 there was not enough on his bagel. The gluten free bagel was good and it was definitely really appreciated as an option!

Tammie W.

Yelp
We visited Santa Cruz and The Bagelry came highly recommended. Unfortunately, it was highly disappointing. The service was exceptional, but the bagels lacked flavor and were very dry. I'd recommend adding salt to the bagel dough to bring out the flavors a little more. The hubby and I shared a scram bagel on onion. The bagel was dry and I'm surprised they didn't put any butter on it to help give it a little moisture. We then ordered a toasted raisin bagel with royal date cream cheese. Again, it was fine but lacked depth. The service was A+ but the bagels need more attention and care.

Mark E.

Yelp
If you need a bagel, there isn't a better place in Santa Cruz to get one. My favorite is the garlic bagel with egg salad and jalapeños. But if you're a purist and you want lox or cream cheese, they got that. Also do breakfast sandwich style with the scrambagel. Staff is friendly and the service is quick. The place is clean and you can dine inside or outside.

Claire H.

Yelp
The taste was great, but the bagel itself was a little too hard. Would've liked it more if it was easier to eat!

Claire T.

Yelp
Such cool vibes! Outside seating was so nice. We always like to get the bag of day old bagels for the house- what a deal! Today I couldn't decide on a bagel so I just got a pickle and chocolate milk. Total- $5. What a steal!

Andy N.

Yelp
The Bagelry is a Santa Cruz staple and are known for having some of the best bagel sandwiches in town. Although only open for a few hours during the day, they are a great grab-and-go spot on your way to work or when you're craving a carby snack. Most people like myself order a bagel sandwich (~$5) where you select from a wide variety of bagels and either a pre-made sandwich spread or a build-your-own. A great thing about their sandwiches is that they load each side of the bagel with spread instead of simply 'sandwiching' it between the two circular grains. What I also love about this spot is that they have a dedicated vegan menu for those that are avoiding animal products. I recently enjoyed their New Delhi bagel sandwich - a tofu spread with tomato and red pepper, cashews, and raisins in between a tomato basil bagel. My bagel was loaded with so much flavor and the firm tofu they used made for a very good, creamy spread; no added cholesterol from dairy needed! Prior to the pandemic, we would often order coffee and bagels here for pickup for events. You are able to pre-order a few days prior (and they prefer you order the week of the event) but need to return the coffee... container? (I don't drink coffee so forgive me for not knowing the term lol) Street parking is usually readily available.

J. G.

Yelp
D I R T Y filthy dirty with a line out the door. I don't know how they can't afford to clean this place up! Do they just not care? Is the kitchen as filthy as the dining area? What the heck is wrong with the owner and where is the health department?

Alyssa P.

Yelp
I started the day off at The Bagelry wanting to get a quick bite before my spa appointment. There was plenty of parking on a Friday morning, though there was a line. I opted for a lox and cream cheese bagel on sesame. The food came out in a few minutes, then we sat outside in the sun to enjoy. The bagel was good and a little chewy. The salmon was tasty. Overall, no complaints!

Rani S.

Yelp
I always love coming to the Bagelry, it really hits the spot on a lazy Sunday morning! The menu is so simple but so delicious and reasonably priced. There is a wide variety of bagels and cream cheeses/sandwiches so I could never get bored of this place. They work efficiently and package the food in a way that makes it a lot easier to eat to-go! Parking is just a little tough in this area.

May Z.

Yelp
This has been my go to Bagelry my entire life. I moved away from Santa Cruz in 2019 but every time I visit I have to stop and get myself a (few) bagels. Highly recommend the salt bagel toasted with pink flamingo spread add tomato and green onion!

Griffin B.

Yelp
Back again at The Bagelry, hands down my favorite place for breakfast in Santa Cruz! As it says in their name, it is bagels, bagels, and more bagels here, coming in many sorts of flavors with all sorts of toppings. You'll certainly find the standard sorts of combos, like the timeless Lox on an Everything. But there are just so many other great sandwiches, scrambles, spreads, and such on their menu to choose from. One of my perpetual go-to's is the Bagel Melt, with jack and cheddar melted atop a tomato-basil bagel. Or the combo of the Royal Palm date and cream cheese spread on their oatmeal-date bagel is another one I can recommend. The Duke, with cream cheese, apricot jam and cashews is delicious. And you can't go wrong with a cream cheese and veggie sandwich with one of their big dill pickles on the side. Along with all the bagels, there are a few sides, a large selection of drinks, and some nice fresh-baked cookies for dessert. Should you have a large event, you can call ahead to place bigger orders, or grab a bunch of pre-bagged bagels to-go. Prices for everything are very reasonable. Most bagels start around the $1.50-$2 range, and go up from there depending on what toppings and add-ons you get. Plus, the service is great, being always friendly, courteous, and prompt. Beyond the food, I really enjoy the store location itself. It's one of those older buildings with a ton of charm and character, a pleasant spot to stop for a bite located right in downtown Santa Cruz. Parking is relatively easy, with a side lot, and plenty of metered street spaces close by, and of course it is in a bike-friendly area, and only a short walk from the more touristy areas of town. Indoor seating is still nonexistent, given the pandemic restrictions. But luckily their lovely outdoor garden patio is back open, and I highly recommend enjoying your bagel there if the weather is nice. All in all, The Bagelry continues to get top marks in my book, and I can't recommend them highly enough. Should you want a lighter breakfast, or something on the fly, then this is the perfect spot for you. I always look forward to swinging back through whenever I'm in the area. They've been a favorite for years, and likely to remain one for years more. Fantastic work, all!

Risya L.

Yelp
Bagels were fluffy and delicious! Especially enjoyed their veggie cream cheese. Husband has the same and my daughter enjoyed a blueberry with cream cheese. I also enjoyed a cup of hot Bengal tea with honey which was by far my favorite tea. Staff is super fast and friendly. Everyone seemed so happy to be there and to help serve everyone. Currently no inside dining but they have a beautiful outdoor seating area surrounded by trees and plenty of seating available.

Carly R.

Yelp
I'm glad they serve gluten free bagels here. They definitely don't skimp on the cream cheese. Lots of complementary reading materials.

Cheryl P.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting The Bagelry. I ordered the Pink Flamingo with no onions and added capers. While outside eating my bagel I was looking over the menu and noticed the Pink Flamingo was 4.50 and I was charged 12.50. Before I left i I spoke with a woman at the counter and asked about the discrepancy. She pulled up my order from the register and said that I ordered the Lox and bagel. I told her that I DID NOT order the lox and bagel and that I specifically asked for the Pink Flamingo. Since it was my first time here I didn't question what they gave me. I figured that was what a Pink Flamingo looked like. So I told her for the 4th time that I didn't order the lox. She just said " sorry" and walked away.( did she think that I was lying?!) HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. That is a 7.00 mistake on their part and she didn't even want to rectify the mistake. It wouldn't be a great loss for them to refund me for their mistake. Rude and unprofessional. * side note...probably the hardest and driest bagel that I have ever eaten. I don't get the hype about this place.*

Abi M.

Yelp
A cute, locals spot with a bustling Monday morning line for bagels and coffee. The offerings are mostly bagels with fancy cream cheeses but they do have a couple egg bagel sandwich options. I got the Pink Flamingo, lox mixed into cream cheese with onion atop, on an everything bagel. I'd never heard of blending the lox straight into the cream cheese, but it delivered the same flavor and was probably easier to eat than a slippery piece of salmon running around the top of your bagel. My husband got the raspberry cream cheese atop a sesame bagel and it was also yummy. I wouldn't call the bagels New York style, slightly breadier, crispier on the outside and less chewy, but they still fill the craving and are delicious in their own right. I'd definitely return if and when I'm in Santa Cruz again!

Jes W.

Yelp
Brando grabbed an egg sando and I tried this vegan New Delhi (Curry-seasoned tofu with green apple, scallions, toasted cashews and raisins) it was so good! All the flavors complimented each other so well! This is a perfect brunch spot when it's not raining! We'll definitely be coming back!

J B.

Yelp
The place is amazing with excellent workers who will out of their way to help you feel welcomed. Fresh made every day with the extra crunch. Not air filled like all other places in San Jose. David and all staff were great. Prices low compared to other places.

S T.

Yelp
It's your average bagel place. Got an everything bagel with hummus because the menu stated it was their specialty homemade hummus, definitely tasted homemade so it was fine but nothing special and our homemade has more flavor. Bagel was decent but it seemed kind of cold (asked for it toasted) so that may have been a determent to the whole experience. Not bad not great.

Abiel T.

Yelp
The food is great and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Santa Cruz.

Matthew E.

Yelp
The cream cheese bagels are cold and tough and chewy. The eggs on the scrambagels are extremely bland with no flavor whatsoever. Toppings raise the prices dramatically. They're really not worth it and the hype is really perplexing. Try a real bagel. Or go to Mad Yolks, Cat & Cloud, or even New Leaf for some real breakfast food. Service is also mediocre. The staff always seem kind of mildly irritated. And the restaurant has a vaguely off brand Denny's ambiance which could be charming if the food were good.

Anna G.

Yelp
DELICIOUS bagels and spread was rich and flavorful!!!! came to santa cruz for my 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend and the bagels are TO DIE FOR. wish they had these all over the west coast!! had to take a dozen for the road back home.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Two Bagels. Two Coffees. $31.45. Get bent. Filling remaining space to meet character minimum.

Stark L.

Yelp
Amazing bagels!! Although you would be able to guess that from the fact that that's their store name right? The bagels are incredibly customizable, so you can create your dream bagel as long as it's humanly possible to pile on that many ingredients If I lived around here, I would explore a million different combinations just for the fun of it, but alas. The parking is sparse, but that's par for the course in this area I think. If you arrive early in the morning, not only is there plenty of parking, but plenty of outdoor seating as well, so I recommend getting an early start!

Srithan M.

Yelp
the bagels are tiny, i need to get this to 85 characters and that's all i need to say

John A.

Yelp
I enjoyed my onion bagel with a smear of roasted red bell pepper and toasted cashews... Added slice of tomatoes, and sprouts

Hanalei M.

Yelp
Second time buying a bagel from here and still disappointed. The bagel was hard the first time and when I asked the clerk to get me a soft bagel it's still hard. I don't even think she told her staff to get a soft bagel. I've tried bagels from different spots before and this place is just basic. Could buy your own bagel and make it at home. I keep wishing the bagel would be better in comparison so Noah's bagels or even Bagel Cafe in Watsonville. Nope- not good.
