The 7 Best Hostels in Istanbul (Updated 2025)

"Geared toward social travelers, Bahaus runs daily walking tours (including deep dives into the Grand Bazaar, a stroll of the Asian side, and tours of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia) and hosts evening gatherings such as rooftop BBQs and drinks; the in-house bar stays open late so it's easy to meet people. All bunk beds have wrap-around curtains for privacy, rooms have attached bathrooms with air conditioning and ceiling fans, and the hostel is centrally located in the Sultanahmet area; they accept guests aged 14–40." - Matthew Kepnes

Excellent location in Sultanahmet close to a bus stop to Istanbul airport.|I liked the substantial breakfast with eggs, bread and small portions of cheese, fruit and veg. The facilities were all right, though the shower drain got easily clogged. Anyway the bed was comfortable, sheets were clean, power outlet near the bed worked. Internet in the room was interrupted for some time, but fixed. I experienced no age discrimination and was treated with respect by friendly helpful English speaking staff. The terrace on the roof top with view was a pleasant bonus.||About negative reviews of this place on TA: it is not fair to judge a low budget accommodation by high level standards. Considering the price, the people in Bahaus do a fine job.

An amazing hostel with fantastic social events! My stay at Bahaus Hostel was incredible. The location is perfect, the rooms are clean, and the atmosphere is super social. But the real highlight was the stand-up comedy night! It was hilarious, well-organized, and such a brilliant way to meet other travelers. We were all laughing together all night. It’s this kind of unique event that turns a good hostel into a great one. I’ll definitely be back! Highly recommended.

Living at Bauhaus for a month was one of the best experiences of my life. The management, especially Masoud Bey, was very kind and professional. The location and accessibility were excellent, and the staff were friendly and warm. Considering the price you pay for accommodation and the services you receive, this place is a very economical and suitable option.

The rooms are nice and the rooftop is a plus. Things to be aware of: the bathrooms are not in great condition, they only take cash for the rent and for the bar (I had no means of getting cash so they took a 10% up charge for card), and the surrounding area is very expensive. What really made my experience however is Salim, he is such a great time and genuinely wants to make sure every guest has a good experience. When I told him it was my last night and I haven’t seen Kadikoy yet he made sure to take us for drinks there.

I had a highlighted moment in this hostel during my travel to Turkey. So I stayed one night in this hostel before going to capadocia for 4 days and came back to it. On my arrival he opened the door for me remembering who I was, he also noticed that I was tired after spending the night in the bus, so he let me in 4h before the normal check-in to get some rest ❤️. The place has: - A common space. - A terrace. - Breakfast is included. - Dinner is available. - Friendly staff. - Clean shared bathroom. - Very clean beds (perfectly white sheets). - Very accessible nearby touristic sites. - The train is 3 minutes walk away, and tram is 2 km I think.

Cash only he accepts euros/ US dollars/ Turkish Lira. It's a little cheaper if you book online and provide a reservation. Very friendly owner. Spent a lot of time helping you understand the Hostel and explaining local attractions. Free breakfast and cheap dinner as well. Good employees! And good location! However shared rooms were pretty uncomfortable (mattress and bed) and bathrooms not very clean. If you are on a strict budget stay here. If you can afford a few more dollars you will be much more comfortable somewhere else. Its ideal for 1 night I would say

The location is good - it’s close to the big sightseeing spots on the European side. They offer a decent breakfast with fruit, omelette, and some bread. The rooftop is nice and they hosted evening events every night while I stayed at the hostel. Sadly, you can clearly tell that the new owner is no longer investing in renovations and is just living off the existing infrastructure. The bathrooms are all quite moldy and generally in poor condition. The toilets were mostly clean, but the overall bathroom experience wasn’t pleasant. Our room had two A/C units, but neither of them worked, so it got pretty hot and sticky. When we opened the window to the backyard, a strong, unpleasant smell came into the room. Furthermore, several beds didn’t have proper curtains, and the lockers were also in poor condition - you should bring a very slim padlock with you. The price was good, but I’ve stayed in much better hostels for the same price.

I spent two nights there and really loved this place. The location is great and well-connected. The building is a bit old, but it has a really nice terrace and a great view. There is a nice, cheap "bar" on the last floor. The staff is great!. They are all very kind and really friendly especially the Iranian musician. They always organize activities, parties, and cook tasty cheap meals for guests. The rooms are nice but not well-maintained, and there was a weird smell. The bathrooms are a bit old and moldy, but I wouldn't expect more for this price. The sink and toilet were clean. I'll definitely be back on my next trip to Turkey—it was a really nice experience!
