The 7 Best Hostels in Istanbul (Updated 2025)

"Geared toward social travelers, Bahaus runs daily walking tours (including deep dives into the Grand Bazaar, a stroll of the Asian side, and tours of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia) and hosts evening gatherings such as rooftop BBQs and drinks; the in-house bar stays open late so it's easy to meet people. All bunk beds have wrap-around curtains for privacy, rooms have attached bathrooms with air conditioning and ceiling fans, and the hostel is centrally located in the Sultanahmet area; they accept guests aged 14–40." - Matthew Kepnes

Cash only he accepts euros/ US dollars/ Turkish Lira. It's a little cheaper if you book online and provide a reservation. Very friendly owner. Spent a lot of time helping you understand the Hostel and explaining local attractions. Free breakfast and cheap dinner as well. Good employees! And good location! However shared rooms were pretty uncomfortable (mattress and bed) and bathrooms not very clean. If you are on a strict budget stay here. If you can afford a few more dollars you will be much more comfortable somewhere else. Its ideal for 1 night I would say

The location is good - it’s close to the big sightseeing spots on the European side. They offer a decent breakfast with fruit, omelette, and some bread. The rooftop is nice and they hosted evening events every night while I stayed at the hostel. Sadly, you can clearly tell that the new owner is no longer investing in renovations and is just living off the existing infrastructure. The bathrooms are all quite moldy and generally in poor condition. The toilets were mostly clean, but the overall bathroom experience wasn’t pleasant. Our room had two A/C units, but neither of them worked, so it got pretty hot and sticky. When we opened the window to the backyard, a strong, unpleasant smell came into the room. Furthermore, several beds didn’t have proper curtains, and the lockers were also in poor condition - you should bring a very slim padlock with you. The price was good, but I’ve stayed in much better hostels for the same price.

I spent two nights there and really loved this place. The location is great and well-connected. The building is a bit old, but it has a really nice terrace and a great view. There is a nice, cheap "bar" on the last floor. The staff is great!. They are all very kind and really friendly especially the Iranian musician. They always organize activities, parties, and cook tasty cheap meals for guests. The rooms are nice but not well-maintained, and there was a weird smell. The bathrooms are a bit old and moldy, but I wouldn't expect more for this price. The sink and toilet were clean. I'll definitely be back on my next trip to Turkey—it was a really nice experience!

Had an amazing stay. Met so many great people, the common terrace really brings everyone together. They also served cheap dinners in the evening and sometimes some sweets. The atmosphere in the hostel is just wonderful. The location is perfect, really cheap compared to the other places in the area. Can’t wait to go back there. (Photos of a view from the wonderful terrace)

I had a wonderful stay at Bahaus Hotel. The lady and gentleman at the reception were extremely kind and attentive. The room I stayed in was well-maintained and perfectly clean. The hostel’s location is fantastic — within walking distance to all the main tourist attractions. The lounge area and rooftop were super chill and beautifully set up. Having the chance to meet people from all around the world while enjoying the Bosphorus view from the rooftop was an unforgettable experience. Overall, everything was great. A special thanks to Mr. Mesut for his personal attention. Looking forward to coming back again!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Istanbul! I had an amazing stay at Bahaus Guest House — truly one of the best hostels I’ve experienced. The location is perfect, just a short walk from all the main attractions like the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and the Bosphorus. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a social vibe that makes it easy to meet fellow travelers. The rooftop terrace was a real highlight — stunning views, great music, and a relaxing place to unwind after a day of exploring. The staff were incredible — super friendly, helpful, and always smiling. They go out of their way to make you feel at home, offering tips, arranging tours, and even sharing Turkish tea and good conversation. Rooms and bathrooms were clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. And the price? Very affordable for the value and experience you get. If you're visiting Istanbul and want a place that’s safe, clean, central, and full of character — look no further than Bahaus Guest House. I’ll definitely be back!

My sister and I booked ourselves a private room and it was very affordable for our three nights in Istanbul. The terrace has a good view of the ocean, breakfast was included and was delicious (a simple plate of eggs, fruit, and vegetables with tea). The walls are thin, so it gets a little loud when people are up late. There was a cat that hung around, too!

It's a great place that I know well. I can recommend it. We need more places in the world that are tolerant, understanding and beautiful. Everyone here is upfront, direct and humble. It's something that other cultures could learn from. Of course, renovations would be absolutely amazing. We hope to push this forward. And I wish Bauhaus all the best.
