"Once inside the Bahia Principe Grand El Portillo, there’s no reason to leave — although you may want to set aside one day to explore Las Terrena, the nearby fishing village. Guests can access seven restaurants, seven bars, three pools, a spa, a children’s water park, and a stunning beach. The center of the action, though, is the nearly 9,000-square-foot centralized pool outfitted with waterbeds and a wet bar." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I really love the cleaning service it was always clean because of the people that were all the time cleaning every where. Also we love Alexander and Danny’s service and not just them, every person who works there are so friendly with everyone. Lots of selection at the buffets. BUT the outdoor patio restaurant needs a garlic cream salad like at the main buffet. It has, only water and oil based dressings not to our liking. The ice cream at the main buffet is too soft for cones. The speciality restaurants are so, so much better staying with the main buffet.. All in all a wonderful resort right on the beach with that great pool and great service. The change room right next to the bathroom/front desk was a nice though. We will count BAHIA PRINCIPE Grand as our “go to” place in the winter and we will be back in 2026. Best regards Dan Fraser Burlington. ON L

This hotel is on a very beautiful stretch of beach with corals that you can swim around, stunning views and clear flat water. The staff are wonderful, drinks are good and the pool is big with plenty of sun chairs so no one needs to reserve a chair first thing in the morning. There is a quiet pool in another section for those who don't like the noise of the activities. People seem to enjoy the activities (yoga, sand games, dance lessons and bingo). Theres a nice pool bar on the beach away from the noise if people like that. |HOWEVER....|The rooms are dark and dated. Very skimpy on towels. No Kleenex in the dispenser. No extras like skin creams. Looks a little mouldy and the first room we were in smelled of mold and mildew. The food at the buffet is less than average. The meat and fish look so overcooked that it looks leathery. Lots of choices but for a person allergic to shellfish, it seems to be interspersed amongst everything. The food at the a la carte restaurants was better. |So, this resort doesn't live up to its 4.5 star rating. 5 star for service. 3 star for food, rooms and amenities.

✨I am Happy Stay Here In my Birthday day✨ So a week of my stay here has passed 🤪, and I want to add to the review! The location is excellent, my expectations and reality came together 👌, the rooms we stayed in are not new, but clean, everything worked, the water pressure in the bathroom was excellent, the air conditioner worked 100% 😂, the food is always delicious, fresh, varied and I have no complaints at all 🫶🏼, 5 restaurants on the territory, we visited 3 (French and Italian in the very heart 💓 everything is top notch) the Brazilian restaurant is a complete disappointment 😢 The hotel staff are just my heroes, constantly on the move, smiling, attentive, positive, cool, my favorite is KetyBerlin 🩷

I really enjoyed my stay here! Rooms were spacious and clean! They have several restaurants to try out but make sure to request booking in advance (French one is lovely and Greek one had extremely soft and delicious octopus)! The food court has nice variety of foods, server Payano was very friendly and attentive :) the beach and pools are great, white sand, enough space for everyone! It was me and my boyfriend’s anniversary and we received complimentary wine in the room! Would recommend to everyone

The property is nice and the food is fairly good but good luck finding a chair at the pool or the beach! Despite signs saying that you can't reserve chairs, there is no one policing that at all. There is not a single drat available anywhere near either of the pools and more than half are actually unoccupied. Can't see why anyone would be ok with this...except of course the people who get up early to go claim chairs and never sit in them!

I came with my husband and 2 sons in a group of 14 ppl, we all were given 7 standard rooms in buildings 22 and 23 (first and second floors). Problems started right away in every room for our members : sink broken, electricity stops in the night, door is not opening/ clothing, etc. Imaging yourself jumping every hour or so at night to put the card into receiver because electricity shuts off and it is too hot in the room! I didn't sleep several night because of it. Of course, they sent technician, but problem resolved only for 2 days...||Rooms are very dated, mold in the bathroom. For one lady in our group they didn't change the bed sheets between the previous guests and her when she entered. ||Hotel staff offers upgraded/ bigger rooms for additional pay, but it is not fair since we already paid a lot for our stay.||My son got a food poisoning/ virus with fever for 2 days. Many other resort guests, I've heard, had nausea and vomiting, including a couple in our group.||Very slow room service, 3 hours waiting for a bottle of water!||When the strong rain passed, a guest on a first floor had a flood, and one of our groups' family as well (2 times) ; at the same time toilets on second floors stopped flushing. Also grounds were flooded as well.||Stray cats and pregnant cats everywhere...Tons of mosquitoes in the resort...||After 2 days we already wanted to leave! Our family has been to many resorts in Cuba, Mexico, other parts of Dominican Republic, and never encountered anything like this! Even 3 stars hotels in Cuba are better than "5 stars" Grand Bahia El Portillo!||If you can, please choose a different hotel. ||Or visit this one if you want constant room problems and health issues... Very sad because the resort has potential and may become a paradise on earth. Instead, it provides people with vacation from hell!||However the ocean/ beach is nice, grounds are beautiful and well kept, animation entertaining, and food was ok for me with a good variety, I will NEVER RETURN. Too many issues.

Totally enjoyed our week at Bahia Principe Grand. Staff were all very attentive and responsive to requests. Our room was kept clean with daily maid service and our fridge was stocked with water, pop and beer. Although we only had domestic drinks, there were lots to choose from. Excellent pina colada’s, margaritas, etc. The house wines were okay, not what I would usually choose The food was decent, lots to choose from. I did find many of the dishes on the buffet were not kept very hot. Made to order eggs/omelettes, pasta, etc were good, fresh. We wished the buffet dishes were labelled for allergens, we were given a card with my husband’s allergen noted to show servers. Some servers didn’t understand the allergen (lactose) and what was in the dishes. This is where there were some language barrier concerns We were able to book all of our a-La-carte dinners on the first day, no line ups. Boavista Brazilian meats was excellent; Greek was very good, but souvlaki was not on the menu, which I had expected; The Fish Market had very good red snapper. All of the a-La-carte meals were hot and fresh The resort is a mix of couples & families (never bothered by kids noise, games). Predominantly Canadian guests. The beach is beautiful! Enjoyed long walks. We weren’t looking for lots of activity, but enjoyed aqua fit; poolside games, bingo. The evening entertainment was okay, particularly enjoyed the beach party. Like many resorts, get up early to get a lounger! We booked a tour of el Limón falls through the local Air Canada vacations rep. We rode a horse and mule partway to the falls and then walked down about 250 long, slippery steps to the falls - magnificent! It was a great half day excursion.

The service in general was fine, staff were friendly, courteous and polite. However we did have an issue with our TV not working for 4 days despite numerous requests for service and no explanation or honest apologies. We hope this will be corrected for our next visit as we really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful tropical region.
