I’m really sad to leave a low review because I used to love this place especially their cakes and tarts from the bakery, which I truly miss. I decided to give it another try and ordered one of their newer menu items during my short 30 minute break. Unfortunately, I ended up waiting nearly 20 minutes for my bagel, which felt too long given my limited time. The bagel itself was a bit hard, and the meat filling was sweeter than I expected not really to my taste. I’m not sure if I’ll try more items, but I genuinely miss the sweet baked goods they used to offer.

Bagel is soft and pillowy on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside. Had the mayo egg with apple and it’s surprisingly light and refreshing. The sandwich with the americano hit the spot.

This bagel was a lil too sweet and the garlic flavour was mild. the bread was really good. cream cheese could be better.. overall, an alright bagel.

Google
The dalgona matcha latte slaps so hard it’s insane. THEY’VE MASTERED CONSISTENT SWEETNESS TO EVERY SIP. A refreshing take on the matcha frenzy right now, each sip of this drink is accompanied with a nutty flavor from the honeycomb melting at the PERFECT RATE at the top. 20000000/10

I wasn't crazy about their Ham n Cheese Croissant the first time I tried them 3 years ago. I mean honestly, Vancouver needs another croissant place like it needs more bike lanes. I've been looking for a place to pick up fresh, tasty, breakfast bagels downtown....and Boooommm! Today it happened. Cute little pick up window you place your oder with friendly staff. Their Egg, bacon and Cheese Breakfast Sesame Bagel was awesome. I personally love the taste of honey dijon, and delicately spread on both sides was a layer of delicious honey dijon with crisp fresh romaine lettuce, tomatoes, juicy scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese on a fresh sesame bagel. It was tasty, it was fresh, it was filling. It was what I've been looking for and never realized I found past all the massive waves of croissant places drowning the breakfast market. Hopefully, this preference will find its own great wave and Vancouverites will have more options to choose from, because still we are choosing between a full on brunch and perhaps a premium croissant bakery, but reluctantly. All you Bagel Lovers out there.... there's one on Mainland!

Very good food and bagels for breakfast and brunch. Coffee is ok. You can order take out and sit right on the chairs outside by YBC bar.

Unfortunately, i came for the one thing they didn’t have but i didnt leave empty handed. Yes, the tartes are no longer being sold here.. instead i got a sandwich and a few baked items with their matcha latte (not photographed - sausage roll was also really good)

Google
Not too sweet :) Unique! But when I stop to think, it wasn’t anything special. The quality is good! It is what it is. It tasted like whipped cream cheese in a puff pastry. It was light, I could eat two! The puff pastry itself was a bit dry and could use more flavor. It’s a literal hole in the wall, so you’ll have to eat at one of the many public seating options. Walkable distance from the skytrain and there’s some metered parking.

Yelp
Service is great! Ordered the corn bagel - I'm generally pretty worried about the ratio but its actually 50/50 either way topping and bagel ratio. Hats off to that, cause when I got it heated up it was just enough of a crunch! It's a pretty mild flavour with a mix of onions and mayo. The displays drew me in to order! Just sad that there is no where to sit on a rainy day - would suggest finding any shaded spot in yaletown otherwise!

Yelp
Blink twice and you may miss Bake49 since it's takeout only. However, their Dalgona Matcha Latte ($5.40) is not something you want to miss! The coffee sensation that took the world by storm is reimagined by Bake49 as a lightly whipped matcha on iced milk and topped with dalgona honeycomb pieces. The aeration in the matcha makes it nice and creamy, adding a touch of bitterness to the cold milk. The crisp honeycomb pieces, once melted, lend a rich, sweet toffee flavour to balance the drink out. Although I'm not sure if the sweetness level can be adjusted (as is the case with the Matcha Latte ($5.30)), you can ask for less ice and substitute the milk with oat milk or almond milk (+$0.50). Either way, you'll want to stir the drink well to blend the flavours together and break down the honeycomb pieces for that full-bodied flavour. This stunning drink is refreshing, tasty, and, compared to other drinks in the area, very unique and well-priced. Bake49 also offers sandwiches and bagels, many of which are Asian fusion. While I have yet to try any, it looks like there's something for everyone judging from the flavours alone - from a classic Plain or Everything to a savoury Red Bean & Cream Cheese, Coffee Bun, or Bacon Scallion Cheese. Sadly, they no longer offer their cheese tarts or cream puffs. Everything can be pre-ordered online and picked up at the window. I ordered in person, but my drinks were made fairly quickly and the service was good too. Paid parking can be found out front. Next time, I'll have to give the Asian fusion bagels a try since I only know of one other place in town that offers something similar.

Yelp
I had been curious to try the garlic cream cheese bagel in LA but was too lazy to drive to Koreatown to get one. When I found out that Bake 49 had them and was walking distance from my hotel, I knew I had to visit. Bake49 recently pivoted from selling croissants and egg tarts to bagels. They make a limited quantity of the garlic butter cream cheese bagels every day, but also offer a variety of other bagels and bagel sandwiches, all sold from a tiny little window in Yaletown. I got a couple of breakfast bagels - one with bacon and one with only egg and cheese. They were ok. I've been spoiled by really incredible bagels in LA and these didn't have as much chew as I would have liked. I took one bite of the garlic cream cheese bagel and was surprised to find that the cream cheese was sweet. It was a little odd at first, but the next thing I knew, I was scarfing down the rest of it (this after eating my BEC bagel) and making mmmmm sounds as I ate. Would definitely come back for this one the next time I'm in the area! There is no seating at Bake49, but Yaletown has some outdoor dining areas where you can eat. I took my bagels down a few block and ate them by the marina.

Yelp
Been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got to try it out! It's just a pick up window in yaletown, so not super rainy day friendly but I thought the concept was cute and their display is done really well. The dalgona coffee was so interesting with these toffee toppings (see picture), but the flavor was so rich, creamy and good. The garlic bagel was surprisingly kind of sweet? I was under the impression that this bagel would be savoury but it was a good mix of savoury and sweet because of the garlic combined with the cream cheese. It was also more bread-y with a light smear of cream cheese so it didn't feel heavy to eat. I really enjoyed and can't wait to go back and try their other items.

Yelp
When I came, it was 1:30pm and the selection was slim. The tarts wouldn't be ready until 2pm and I was in a hurry so grabbed whatever they had. I tried their Dark Chocolate NY Croissant - this was delicious, packed with cream in the middle, but yet the Croissant stayed flaky and not mushy. Worth getting. I also tried their Matcha and Sesame Palmier - this tasted a bit burnt, especially the sesame side. The matcha side was so sweet it probably covered up the burnt taste. I'd probably avoid their palmiers in the future. There is no sit down area. Order at the counter that's right in front of the door.

Yelp
BAGEL ME UP PLEASE I stopped by @bakefortynine yesterday to try out their revamped menu. Bake49 is a hidden little gem tucked away behind a window on Mainland St in Yaletown. They were well known for their pastries like cheese tarts and croissants. However, unfortunately, Bake49 no longer sells their famous cheese tarts, croissants, or puffs But, they may just be the best bagel spot in town now. Their line up of bagels include your classics like sesame and everything bagel, as well as unique flavours like pretzel, almond, and red bean. They also have a selection of bagel sandwiches that look absolutely delicious. I grabbed the honey walnut cream cheese bagel and a plain pretzel bagel to go. And let me tell you guys, I mean it when I say that was one of the best bagels I've ever had. Like, on par with the bagels in New York type of good. I disassembled the cream cheese bagel once I got him to re-toast the sesame bagel that it came on. I also added some left over salmon and chicken breast that I had into it afterwards. And oh, my, god this thing was amazing. I'm seriously not exaggerating. The shell of the bagel was really nice and crunchy, the inside was soft and chewy, and toasted sesame seeds added such a punch of flavour. The honey walnut cream cheese was also a perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Made my plain chicken breast that I added in taste so much better. I'm genuinely sad that they don't make pastries anymore, but also elated that they now do bagels. Because Vancouver is definitely still quite lacking in bagelries. Did you guys know that Bake49 is now a bagel shop? 10/10 ‍10/10 $ (aprox. $2.50-$12/bagel depending) Bake49 | 1066 Mainland St, Vancouver

Yelp
We were walking around Yaletown when we noticed the tiny window selling various tarts. But what caught my eye was the eclair-shaped cream puff and "limit 3/person" sign underneath it. Of course I had to try one! .... And it was divine. It has a mix of custard and cream inside with a very nice crunch on top. Perfect flavor/texture combination. Definitely try one!!! Because of limited stomach space, I did not try any other pastry offered here.

Yelp
4.5 stars. This place has been on my "Vancouver list" for awhile, after seeing it on Instagram a long time ago. After visiting Japan and having amazing cheese tarts there, I was curious about Bake49's version. We arrived randomly around 1:50 and noticed the sign that says the tarts are not ready until 2:00 p.m. Great timing overall, as we killed some time at a shop nearby and then came back at 2:00 and people were starting to line up. We tried the matcha and regular cheese tart -- the matcha had strong matcha flavor which I really enjoyed. The regular one was tasty as well! Would have tried the other 2 (black sesame and strawberry) but we were pacing ourselves. My only minor complaint is the inside is that the inside of the tart is a tiny bit more runny than I'd like. I do like that its so soft and gooey but it can quickly turn into a mess if you aren't careful. The crust was really nicely done. Will definitely go back and look forward to trying some of their other treats as well! Note: This is a walk-up window only.

Yelp
We passed this shop in the evening on weekend. I wanted to try their croissant & pastry but they already sold out. So, I bought their cheese tarts. - Original cheese tarts: the crust was flaky and good - baked perfectly! The original cheese filling was creamy and tasted good. However, I was disappointed since the filling was very runny (more like liquid cheese) and it was dripping on my hand. I had cheese tarts before so I know it wasn't supposed to be this runny. - Matcha cheese tarts: the crust was good. The filling tasted good and I could definitely taste the matcha flavor. However, the filling wasn't set properly. It was a bit better than the original but it was still a bit too soft & runny in the middle. I'm not sure why the cheese filling was runny and wasn't set. Maybe it was the end of the day and the cheese tarts were placed on the hot tray all day (?). Otherwise, the taste was good and I might try them again next time. I'd suggest to come there in the morning.

Yelp
Got here right when the cheese tarts came out to see what the hype was about. First time trying a cheese tart & although it was warm & flaky, the tanginess of the cheese didn't blend together with the black sesame. It was just an odd taste, where the savory & sweet didn't quite meld together.

Yelp
Have walked past this little gem many times and could never understand why there is a persistent queue from open to close. Well folks, today we decided to cave in our FOMO and our curiosity. A line of 10ish folks is ahead of us. There's a sign "whatever we have on display table is all we have right now". 40-50 ish Japanese cheese tarts left. We should be ok. Uh-uh. Folks were buying dozens by dozens at a time. Line moved fairly quickly. Whew, we managed to snag a few- 2x original and a matcha. Needless to say the tarts vanished in a flash. Tis good. Very good in fact. B49 is Bake 49. An artisanal pastry shop. Looking in, the place is the size of a broom closet. Take-out only. Ppl don't seem to mind. Folks who have tried B49's other pastries like croissants and danishes, tell me they are equally fresh af. Not sure what the 49 stands for. Version 49? Or latitude 49? Anyways. Name is not really telling that this is a nano Japanese bakery dedicated to excellence. This they deliver in spades. There are plenty of open seating nearby in Yaletown to enjoy the catch. Definitely will be back to try more. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the einspanner here! Perfect place to grab a quick pastry and coffee before you walk around the city!

Yelp
Had 2 cheese tarts (original and matcha), a cream puff, and a pain au chocolat shared between friends. There was a small queue when we got there. It's a grab and go place with no seating area. The service was quick. I'll be honest - I'm a HUGE matcha fan but the matcha cheese tart was a bit underwhelming in terms of its matcha flavour. The original cheese tart was good and I don't like cheese tarts that much. My friends loved it though. The pain au chocolat was perfectly flaky. I thought it could use a little more salt but it was decent. I wasn't really expecting the cream puff to be what it was because it's not what you would think. The texture is more crispy churro-like with a harder shell. With that being said, that was definitely my favourite out of the pastries that we got. The cream inside was amazing and the outside was nice and crunchy. I'd love to come back to try other pastries from here. From what we got, I'd only really have the cream puff again.

Yelp
I have written a review about Bake49 before. I won't write too much this time. It's going to be the same thing. I do hope people would try this bakery shop and taste everything by themselves instead of me talking so much. My husband and I got more sweets and pastries for Christmas. Loved all of the food here!! very delicious!!

Yelp
I visited here on Nov 12th to help my sweet cravings. There was a lineup formed already at 2:40 so I thought why not trying their treats. I didn't get to browse inside of the store, but it was easy to see through the glass. I smiled sweet toasty scent of tarts, and pastries YUM! I had Choco Drizzle ($4.90), Matcha Tart ($3.80) and Dalgona Latte ($5.30) they were pretty good. Choco Drizzle was excellent it had crunchy texture filled with cream inside. Matcha tart was good just that it was so small and expensive. Everything was made fresh. So glad the staff got the right order. My Dalgona Latte was half sweeten as I requested it. Can't afford to go here often, but Bake 49 is SO worth visiting.

Yelp
(4.5 stars) I finally got to try Bake 49's cheese tarts. They had four flavours: original, matcha, strawberry and black sesame. It was only 3 pieces max per person so I skipped out on the black sesame. These tarts were amazing. The crust was flaky and light, which made each bite satisfying (even though I demolished each one after two-bites). The filling was delicious which was light and creamy. My personal favorite was the classic original, but the matcha and strawberry were great too - both flavourful. The only downside is that you can only buy a maximum of three tarts at a time, and they're only available after 2 pm. But definitely worth it. They also offer other pastries that were delicious. I'd definitely recommend giving these cheese tarts a try if you're in the mood for something sweet and indulgent. I'll have to try their cream puff and cheesecake next time.

Yelp
I have to say I have not been that excited about viennoiseries and croissants until after seeing so many long line ups. Awhile back, we finally decided to try them to satisfy our curiosity. And I have got to say they were worth the wait. We could not resist this unique cold tiramisu croissant as it looked stunning. Extremely crispy and airy, it was overloaded with great cream cheese filling. The filling was equally light, slightly tangy but still flavourful, really complemented the tasty bread. Laced with great expresso flavour, it was a superb variation of the popular classic French breakfast of black coffee/croissant. Tiramisu Croissant $7.70

Yelp
Was walking down Mainland Street in Yaletown and could not resist stopping by Bake 49. At 2pm, they have cheese tarts and cream puffs for sale! The Sapporo style Japanese cheese tarts are so good fresh. I tried the original, matcha and strawberry and I think original is still best! Cream puffs are limited to 3 per person, and they're pretty good as well. Also got a nice iced coffee to go with the treats - their cup sleeve is really comfy. I must say my one pet peeve is that their menu and prices are not available online on their website. It's only available right next to their takeout window and even then it's not a permanent fixture.

Yelp
An good gem in Yaletown. B49 - also known as Bake49 is a take away only bakery. There is always a consistent line here and items sell out fast, so make sure you come a little early! I have gone twice in the past three days... to try to get my hands on the almond croissant. I know it's bad but all their baked goods are perfectly layered and fluffy. We ordered: - Dirty Chocolate - Pain au Chocolat - Earl Grey Croissant - Brunch Danish I'm OBSESSED with this place and can see myself coming back on a regular.

Yelp
3 tarts for $10.50 Original 9/10: Rich & cheesy flavour with a savoury taste! I loved how they torched the top. Strawberry 8/10: The strawberry flavour was more subtle & it was a little sweeter than the original one. This one sells fast! Both tarts were super creamy and they're made fresh daily! The crust was crispy & flaky which complimented the gooeyness of the centre. They're not too filling as well so it's a great serving for one person! I went around 4pm on a weekday and a lot of items were already sold. I wanted a matcha tart but someone got them before me, first come first serve! They also sell a lot of pastries and cheesecakes so I'll get those during my next visit..whenever that may be BUT they only sell them at specific hours or for pre orders so you gotta check out their IG! The place is truly for takeout only!
google avatar

Yelp
Walked past bake49 and decided to try the cheese tray. It was light and flavourful. They also had some other flavours. Would definitely come back for more!

Yelp
Disclaimer: I've never been to Japan or had Japanese cheese tarts before this in order to compare it to that, but I know Hong Kong and portugese cheese tarts and cheesecake and this was a harmonious marriage between all three. Think of the lightest, most melt in your mouth creamy cheesecake with a flaky, not soggy base. This was that. It's pillowy and super smooth, but not runny like Castella's. I prefer this one more because they also have the crunchy cream stick with vanilla cream. Crunchy, creamy? Yes, please! I don't want the cream to be custardy, the creamy vanilla pairs really well with the crunchy almond texture. I wish it wasn't 4 bucks a pop, but take my money anyways. I'm so sad and glad I don't live here, I would go broke just coming here everyday. We came here twice in 2 days and had the tarts when we got back to cali. Still good! Strawberry was my favorite. The matcha one is really matcha-y for those that like it.

Yelp
Cozy little pick up place for coffee and pastries on your way to..... I tried their Ham & Cheese Croissant. This item I would not reorder. They used thick-cut ham which overpowered the croissant and the cheese. All I taste was ham, and it wasn't organic uncured ham. It was the kind of ham you pick up at your local deli with a request to have it cut really thick. Ham is naturally salty and with the cheese it ended up being way too salty for my taste. It would've been great if they had used natural uncured thin shavings of ham to compliment the pastry and the cheese instead of taking it over, or even better, using medium cut shreds and baking it into the layers of the croissant all throughout. Another thing I found odd with this pastry was that they used sugar glaze on top of the croissant, which I've never had before. Ham & Cheese Croissants are traditionally savoury not sweet and this was a combination of the two....which, in my opinion should not have been made. The crispy cheese was a nice touch, but again it was sticky instead of oily, which means sugar was added. I personally like my savoury croissants without sugar. If I want a sugary croissant, I'd go with chocolate, almond or any other one of dozens of sweet croissants. The Crunchy Cream Puff was nice. It was crunchy, the whip was light and tasty and it tasted very fresh. Nice to have it with a cup of coffee if you're craving something sugary. Their selections are quite limited at the moment and hopefully they'll add more, but for the time being I don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Wishing them growth and success in competitive Yaletown.

Yelp
There are a ton of bakeries in Yaletown but I'd heard about Bake49 through a friend. They specialize in Japanese cheese tarts. It's directly across the street from WildTale. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 3:30pm) and all their cheese tart flavours were available. The menu is small; cheese tarts, crunchy cream puffs, milk soft serve ice cream and a double cheesecake (pricey at $27.00)! If you order 6 tarts or more, taxes are included. - Combo #4 ($19.10 for 6) - two of each flavour (strawberry, original and matcha). We bought these to share for dessert for a dinner. The best flavour was easily the original. Good texture but the crust was the best part. Strawberry wasn't too sweet, very subtle. Matcha was slightly bitter. Debit or credit only. Stick with the original cheese tart.

Yelp
Favorite bakery in Vancouver! Small Victory bakery was also on my list and I thought that was very good as well, but something about Bake49 just makes me like it more. I understand the hype for sure. My favorite was the sausage roll here but honestly whatever you get will taste great. Everything was flaky and had great flavor, would highly recommend.

Yelp
We had just bought a dozen croissants from Angus T on the same block, and stumbled upon Bake49. So being a fatty, we decided to get something from here too. I'm a savoury person, so despite all the fancy looking sweet croissants in the window display I went with the good ol' ham and cheese croissant. The croissant was fresh so it was still warm... it was so flakey and buttery, and they were generous with the cheese and the ham was so tasty! I usually find the ham just kinda blah, but this ham had really good flavour and it filled the entire croissant. Probably one of the best ham and cheese croissant I've had so far. Am looking forward to coming back to try some of the other flavours. The cashier also recommended a cake that they make which requires preordering, so might check that out too!

Rafael B.

Yelp
Love this bakery! They are so also but they serve very high quality food. Highly recommend their cheese tarts! Thin crispy crust and lots of cream. They have other flavors, such as: strawberry, black sesame and matcha. The price vary based on the quantity, if you buy more tarts, their unit price is cheaper. Also love their Crunchy Cream Puffy! Veeeery crunchy! Lots of filling! They put the filling only when you buy it, that's why it's very crispy and fresh! DELICIOUS!

Yelp
Came here a post-workout treat (yup) & didn't feel too guilty about devouring their crunchy nut vanilla custard stick ~ it was lighter in texture & weight than I thought it would be (a good thing for me) Took home their classic & strawberry cheese tarts & they did not disappoint - again, a lighter fluffier texture & thinner crispy crust than I thought they would be - a lovely light dessert

Yelp
Bake49 serves Japanese style desserts in the form of pastries, cream puff sticks and soft serve ice cream. I've tried the majority of their menu and I did enjoy their tiramisu soft serve ice cream, as it's very thick and creamy. The Sapporo style cheese tarts were decent but definitely not as good as the ones I've had in Hokkaido, while the long choux puffs were quite similar to the ones I have had in Tokyo. Some of my friends preferred the cheese tarts while others really liked the choux puff. I honestly don't think their choux puff is worth the price, but it was a nice addition to the soft serve as a topping (as in I dipped my choux puff into the ice cream). Overall, I give Bake49 a 3.5/5.

Yelp
Love the cheese and ham croissant, it's my favorite (as well as the earl grey croissant I got last time), butter croissant is classic and crispy

Yelp
I've passed by multiple times oooh'ing and aww'ing at the treats on display but could never bring myself to stand in line. Not sure how this happened but today there was no line up! Definitely my lucky day. The smell of butter that wafts from this place is just intoxicating! My partner and I ordered the cheese tart and the black sesame seed tart. I can only say that I'm sad I did not get more. The black sesame tart was just magical. Ugh I want more!!!

Yelp
5 stars for the cream puff, 3.5 for the cheese tart- so 4.3 stars! We visited just as they opened at 1pm and there were already 5-6 customers in the store! We got the cream puff and 6 cheese tarts (it was cheaper when 6 was bought - $3.8/cheese tart or $19 for 6 cheese tarts). I loveeed the cream puff! It was super duper fresh and it was fun watching them fill up the cream puff! There were crunchy bits on the top of the cream puff and the filling tasted like a rich cereal milk cream (it really felt like I was eating the remains of my cereal because of the rich milk cream and the crunchy bits on the top of the cream puff)! It was a novelty to me to have that combination in a cream puff and I really liked how well all the flavours and textures blended together! For the cheese tarts, I enjoyed the cream cheese tart but I did not enjoy the shell of it. It was hard and flakey, and I found that it contrasted the smooth cream cheese inside. It wasn't as if we ate it a few days after we ate the cheese tart fresh as soon as we got our box! I anticipated it to taste like Pablo's cheese tarts but was a little disappointed. Next time I'm hoping to try the tiramisu!

Yelp
Yummy treats. We got lucky that there were barely any lines when we came. We tried everything they can offer. Im particular to the egg tart. Not too sweet. Perfectly flaky as well. This is not a sit down venue so be prepared to eat your food on the go.

Yelp
I love their different cheeses tarts & cream puff, which are delicious. The chef baked with his passion. Very good

Yelp
Couldn't resist the smell when I walked by so I ordered a matcha cheese tart ($3.50) and an iced matcha latte. The tart is buttery goodness while the filling is light and gooey. The matcha is light while there is a discernible cheese tang. I enjoyed the treat particularly the tart and would likely try a different flavour next time. The iced matcha is a little heavier on the milk side and, like the tart, quite subtle on the matcha flavour but still enjoyable.
google avatar

Sangeetha M.

Yelp
Their cheese tarts are delicious! The crust is amazing and the cheese filling looks rich but it wasn't that heavy. Although expensive it's worth it as a treat once in awhile. I also tried the Double Fromage Cheesecake. It was good but not something I would get again. It's not heavy either which I liked and meant to be eaten very cold. I will be trying more treats from their menu!

Yelp
I love the cheese and green tea tart so much! You should come here! Totally recommended! Reminded me of baked from japan or asia! This is a try and would come back here for more tarts! Thank you!

Yelp
Nothing like their cream puff on a rainy day. They freshly fill it and it has a nice nutty crunch to it with a creamy custard inside that's chilled when you bite in.

Yelp
Many times saw people posting Bake49 yummy dessert on Instagram, I have been waiting to try it for a long time. Last Saturday, I had to make my fiance go with me to try it out. Bake49 is located on the Mainland St, Vancouver. The location is right across the street from Earls in the central of Yaletown area. It is a small Japanese bakery, mainly focuses on cheese tarts. Since they've opened, it's lineups out the door. Everything is made from scratch with quality ingredients. People are mostly grabbing to go from this place. My fiance and I arrived Bake49 around 1 when it's just opened. We were very lucky, didn't have stayed in line to walk in to order. Since it was our first time visited, we choose the fancy stuff to try. We ordered the Croquant Choux ($4.50). It starts with a crunchy almond crusted exterior which is filled with vanilla bean custard creme. The exterior is crunchy and airy and slightly sweet. The vanilla bean interior is a nice, rich flavor of vanilla that isn't too sweet. Personally, I don't like sweet stuff. I felt the Croquant Choux is great for me. The prices of dessert in this place is a little bit expensive. The Sapporo style Japanese cheese tarts ($3.80, 6 for $19), which is expensive. We didn't get a chance to try them. But, I believe their taste will be great. In summary, I would like to go back to Bake49 to try other stuff. highly recommend people to go to this place for the sweeties

Yelp
BEST. PASTRIES. HANDS DOWN! I completely understand the hype now and see why there is always a line up outside of Bake 49. I was in the area and was lucky enough to see that there was no line and a ton of pastries at the window and said why not and picked up a few things and I'm so glad I did. I wanted a quick snack so I got their ham & cheese croissant and one of their classic cheese tarts just to try. The ham & cheese croissant is the best I've ever had, I really love how they had grainy mustard inside and that the croissant had a sweet honey glaze on top and crispy cheese bits at the bottom of the croissant was amazing. I don't know how but those two things really elevated a simple ham & cheese croissant and of course the pastry is flakey too. Next is the cheese tart... WOW it was my first time trying a cheese tart as I'm not sure if I like cheese desserts yet but this was wonderful. The tart pastry was soooo buttery and flakey and just perfect, paired with the rich and creamy cheese filling was so good but no heavy at all. I definitely will return to Bake49 and buy a large order next time, these are a must try and are now on top of my list for best pastries in the city!

Yelp
finally hd the chance to try this instagram phenom and find out what the hype is all about... its a little hole in the wall bakery serving a lot creamy goodness inside. my objective was to try the famed cheese tarts and oh boy...the did not disappoint. flaky crust holding a not so runny cheese filling, and then slightly charred on top to maximize flavour and bring out the robust tartness of the cheese. simply amazing! perfect pair to a good cup of joe. service is fast and efficient. got there no line ups, the back door operations quietly churning out dozens and dozens of cream cheese tart goodness. yes, it did live up to its hype. however, it us very pricey! at 3.80 each or 6 for 19.95 with taxes...it might raise some eyebrows for sure. to indulge once in a while, sure. to have it as a regular coffee time staple, no way! lol. its a good change from chinese egg tarts or portuguese tarts. location wise, heart of yaletown! parking challenge: difficult! lol. cheers! happy eating!

Yelp
Bake 49 was exactly what my girlfriend and I were looking for while we were in Vancouver! I had walked by Bake49 a few days earlier when I got off the train and on the way to the hotel, but I was in a rush and hadn't stopped in. This time we were talking about it and how we needed the cheesecake. This bake shop is very small. It only has 1-2 tables for guests to enjoy the pastries, however when we were here everyone else was getting to go orders. We were greeted and ordered the cheesecake and asked for it to be cut up into slices so we could share, accompanying the cheesecake was also a house made strawberry sauce. The cheesecake wasn't overly sweet like we are used to here in the US. It had a nice balance and the sauce sweetened it slightly. I also ordered a cheese tart which was delicious, I got one bite of it while my girlfriend had a couple. Note** Bake49 doesn't accept cash

Yelp
I want to come here everyday to eat the Croquant Choux and cheese tart! They fill the Croquant Choux with the best custard cream as you buy so you'll have to eat it right away otherwise the shell will lose its crispiness. My only regret with buying it is that I bought only one and shared it...I will come back and get my own next time!! Cheese tart is also very good. Cheese filling is a bit runny but the flavor is on point. This is a tiny, charming bakery ran by very lovely folks. Will come back for sure!

Yelp
I bought a box of 6 to share with my family. You can get 3 matcha and 3 original for about $20. The filling was thick and creamy while the crust was buttery and flaky. The crust was thicker than the one I had tried at Castella Cheesecake so overall the whole tart didn't feel as light and delicate but that's not an issue. I didn't eat these right away so I'm not sure how ooey gooey they were suppose to be but they were still very good when I had them a few hours later. I even put the leftovers in the fridge and they were equally tasty cold!

Yelp
Love the original cheesecake and puffs And... their customer services are wonderful for both on phone call and picking up. (I have visited the store in many times already)

Yelp
Cookie cream puff (2/5) A little underwhelming. The choux pastry was crisp which I liked but it was cold. I'm also not the biggest fan of vanilla custard so I did not enjoy this as much as the average person. I won't be back, because I don't like cheese tarts and the cream puff was nothing special.

Yelp
Hubby lined up for over an hour to get me these delicious #cheesetart on the soft opening day. Another surprise in the fridge from hubby. Step aside cheesecake etc and tree's organic, here comes the best #cheesecake in Vancouver #nomnom P.S. would have given it 5 stars except for the long wait.
