Baker Bleu

Went to Baker Bleu in Melbourne and was huge fan of their croissant as it had a unique flavour and also thought their pizza slice was delcious. Was super keen to try their Double Bay store but was a bit disappointed by their pizzas. We got the zucchini feta and chimchurri slice and the slice was quite gummy and we thought a bit under baked. We also got the Reuben sandwich which didn't include sauerkraut or cheese. Instead there was tomato and lettuce with pastrami and thousand Island mayo. It was an ok sandwich but we don't think it was a Reuben 😅The bread was quite substantial and flavour was good though. The highlight was definitely the apricot galette pastry. The apricots were nice and tart. The pastry was not too oily and sturdy but flaky. Great pastry but disappointed by the pizza slices.

The sourdough here is simply delicious, such flavour! The bread is soft and spongy, but the crust is so crusty and has a delightful chew. Putting some tasty fillings between two slices of it is a sure fire way to have a delicious sandwich. That is exactly what I did and I have no regrets. If you close your eyes and listen, you’ll hear crunching at all of the other tables - what a delight.

This baker was our favourite but has definitely gone downhill fast. Coffee average. Had a cold Pain au Chocolat. I asked for it to be heated up and the girl told me “We don’t do that”. It didn’t taste fresh. They use to be served warm and soft out of the oven. This one was so dry and pastry fell everywhere. We won’t be returning.

Baker Bleu in Double Bay is one of my favourite bakeries. I especially love their Fougasse and it’s such a standout. It’s big, beautifully shaped like a wheat ear, with plenty of crispy edges, and perfect for sharing. The onion and rosemary flavour is amazing — savoury, fragrant, and just really satisfying. It’s even better torn apart and dipped in good olive oil. Their sourdough is next level too — so much flavour and a perfect crust. The Country Wheel is another favourite, and the pastries are always top notch. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and you can tell they really care about what they do. One of those places you just keep going back to.

Amazing Sourdough bread and selection of sandwiches. Coffee was on point as well. You Can tell ho w good thid place is by the queue so be prepared to wait at times.

This has to be the most stunning croissant you’ll ever lay eyes on – just look at that perfect golden color. I’m a big fan of sourdough croissants, and this one hits all the right notes: crispy, crunchy, buttery, with a soft, airy interior. It’s simply amazing. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but totally worth every cent. I ended up getting three, which is rare for me since I usually like to try other items from a bakery. But this one was too good to pass up, and I can see why it’s in the running to be the top bakery in Sydney. I just wish it was closer!

Today's croissant was unfortunately overbaked—the outer layer was dark, burnt, and the bitter taste was unmistakable. It wasn’t just a one-off either; the entire tray appeared the same, but I decided to try it. However, this is the least one I would recommend. On the brighter side, the beef bagel is an absolute must-try. The bagel itself is perfectly chewy with a delightful aroma from the white sesame seeds. The tangy pickles and creamy cheese create a beautifully balanced flavor profile that’s both satisfying and memorable. The egg sourdough sandwich, however, was average. While the egg and mayo were fine, they didn’t deliver any standout “wow” factor. Perhaps incorporating more inventive ingredients could elevate it. As for the baguette, it was passable but not my favorite. Finally, cookies. The Brooke cookie is a chocolate lover's dream—rich, indulgent… Service was warm, efficient, and welcoming, making the experience enjoyable.
