I recently visited a charming spot on O’Connell, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for enjoying a freshly baked treat. I tried their pastries and was impressed by the quality – everything was perfectly crafted, with rich flavors and a delightful texture. The staff were friendly, adding to the overall welcoming vibe. Whether you’re in the mood for a coffee or a sweet snack, this place offers a delightful experience. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

My first visit to Bakery on O'Connell was two months ago when I accompanied my daughter's visiting to Women's and Children's Hospital. I bought a few pieces of cakes / doughnuts as she said she was hungry. The cakes and doughnuts were all very good, though they were not cheap. Surprisingly, I was made known for myself during my first visit that this bakery opens 24/7. As a newcomer who has only recently arrived in Adelaide, this finding was really exciting as 24/7 restaurants are not something common, even in big capital cities like Sydney or Melbourne. As far as I know, except those fast food chains, only a few 24/7 restaurants are available: Sydney: City Extra @ Circular Quay Melbourne: Walkers Doughnuts @ Flinders Street Station and Chapelli's @ Chapel Street Really happy to see this little quiet city also has 24/7 restaurant like Bakery on O'Connell. Recently, it came to my awareness of two other bakeries, which open 24/7 (i.e. Norwood and Mile End). With these 24/7 restaurants, plus those fast food chains restaurants, I would say their hard works have made this city more livable. Thank you Bakery on O'Connell. I will definitely visit you guys in the mid-night someday later and see if you guys are really working hard like what your website said. See you soon!

What a lovely treat! Loved the food, the service and watching the behind the scenes between the drinks fridges (see photo) but like everything these days the bakery prices are certainly creeping up

Visited this bakery for a short breakfast, but ended-up spending a lot of time here & ordered extra cakes. The strawberry cheesecake is definitely out of this world. Their pies are so soft & yummy, too.

This bakery is a true delight! The service is friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home. The food is absolutely delicious, with fresh pastries, cakes, and bread that melt in your mouth. They offer vivid options, from classic favorites to creative treats that look as good as they taste. The ambience is cozy and cheerful, perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone who loves great bakery vibes!

If you like peas, make sure you try it. The protein of the peas neutralizes mouth when the cheese in the meat pie becomes greasy. Anyway, it was sooooo delicious.

Went there for a late night treat and didn’t get disappointed. The coffee and the cakes were so delicious. And the bakery is open 24 hours wow.

Yelp
At 12 o'clock yesterday we decided to go on what we thought was going to be a delightful outing. Little did we know that this humble bakery experience would soon become one of the worst of our lives. I am extremely upset at the taste and texture of the custard tart, if you can even call it that. I was deflated. Firstly, the 'tart' tasted like a rubber glove. And texture, oh the texture! It had the texture of a hot cheese cake. I was bitterly disappointed and my internal organs displayed the harsh feelings of emesis. The O'connell 'shamozzel' was such a disappointment to my family that we posted this complaint of disgust to yelp.

Yelp
What can I say about Bakery in O'Connell, it's a classic! With quality baked goods and open 24hrs you can't go wrong. After being here a few times though I gueas I can make some recommendations. -Their cronut cones are disappointing, they aojbd good in theory but theyre really too much and the cones are a bit dry (they have nothing on providore's Cronuts) -If you love Nutella there are a million different Nutella doughnuts!! -They also sell freah salads -Their custard slice is amazing!

Yelp
O'Connell Bakery is an Adelaide Institution! A bit of background- a long time ago it used to be a regular bakery but demand grew to a point where they couldn't cope and changed to 24 hours. This year, it also got to the point where they had to move down the street to a new location. So yeah, this place is that good! The new store is so much nicer, looking cleaner and much more professional. It was good to see that they had the same huge selection of pastry available as before. I've been going every now and then for the past year and the consistency of their products is amazing. They have so many pastries but quality is not sacrificed. My default go to is the custard tart, and I can say with confidence that this is the best custard tart I've ever eaten. The custard is on another level, it's like creme patisserie on steroids. Thicker, smoother and richer than your standard creme pat, and they really tone down the vanilla flavour so you taste the egg more. I think they add heaps more than usual the amount of eggyolks to get that consistency. You can tell the're made fresh because the pastry is still crisp when you bite into it. Now I can't go back to the watery balfours custard tarts anymore. So about 85% I'll get the custard tart, but I've also tried a few other things. Tried the steak and pepper pie one time but I'm not the biggest meat pie fan so not much to comment on that. The nutella cronut was nice when the cronut craze was happening, don't know if they still have it. There's still so much to try but I don't anything can beat the custard tart. The donuts with whipped creams are solid. The price is what keeps me coming back. The custard tart is $3.50 per slice and hasn't increased in over a year. If I don't feel like blowing $30 at a cool, hip dessert cafe then I'll come here. I get that deconstructed plating and negative space and those trends are popular (not to mention molecular gastronomy) but not every place can pull it off. There's no faffing around on ceramic slates, a dozen tiny elements on said slate (although sometimes that can work), or 'artisan' 'housemade' 'foams' 'gelees' and the list goes on. You order, it comes on a plate and that's that, go and eat it! Absolutely no pretensions. Reasons why it gets a 5: very unpretentious, great selection of pastries, great quality all round, open 24/7, very reasonable prices...and BEST custard tarts around!

Yelp
Friends & I found a place here in Adelaide! Their meat pies were delectable! Kept going back for more & actually got to dry 5 different flavors! Beef & was exactly that, not too much cheese, but just enough. Chicken parmi had a tomato base filled with treasures in every bit. Lamb, I loved & was actually very flavorful. All pies contained a thicker sauce, ample amounts of meat & nice thick/crispy crust that hit the spot. makes me hungry just thinking bout it. Thai roll also very flavorful if you're looking for vegan. Only disappointed that the Lamington did it have the jelly layer in the middle, but the Nutella bomb more then made up for it. Apricot flavored items had a bit of a bit, not overly sweet, but also didn't expect that bit of tang to come through.

Yelp
Their meat pies are so good! This place seemed very popular with the locals. They were always busy but they really moved through the lines. Always friendly as well. We were here for 3 nights and stopped by every day! I also loved the Nutella and salted caramel bombs. If you love sweets you'll love those.

Yelp
Love this little bakery. All staff members are so friendly, especially Connie, who is so sweet, caring, and positive every time I come in.

Yelp
Most eateries are closed 11pm Sunday nights except this bustling bakery. Great food at a very good price, plenty of seating, inside and out. Perfect for breakfast, late night munchies or anything inbetween.

Yelp
I'll start by saying "bakery blahhh". I'm not a fan. Sure it's good for the brain but limited choice, standard baked goods, pastry upon pastry, sugar and more sugar, we can all do without bakeries, for ever. Except sometimes. Sometimes it's okay to go to one. Like after a lot of exercise, or after a big night out, or because you're curious, or you're with someone who is curious, or you don't have much money on you, or you get that bakery craving that you don't want but we all get. Doh. The O'Connell bakery doesn't stand out with its products. It's the classics and all the usual goods you'll find at most bakeries. But if that's what you're after then this is the place to go. It's clean, large and very busy. I drive past almost daily and only went there to get a late night coffee, and maybe a snack, so of course I had a snack. A very large Berliner with, I swear, more jam than comes in a standard 375gram jar!!! It could easily have done with half the amount and it still would have been lip licking jammy. My friend bought some caramel goodness which vanished very quickly and a very doughy chocolate doughnut which we shared. The coffee was surprisingly quite good and what was better when it was ready the waitress spotted us and brought out the coffees, even though there's no table service. For her I give 5 stars.

Yelp
These guys are seriously good at what they do. They are open 24 hours for the shift worker or your post drink hunger pains. Quick service with a smile and I have always had great food - I guess because they keep on cooking! This time I had a sausage roll with a mini meat pie and mini donut. The sausage roll and mini pie were hot and just the right temperature. The sausage roll was not overwhelmed with pastry with a generous meat/pastry ratio. The mini donut was fresh and spongy with a delicious chocolate topping. Great service and great food!

Yelp
I honestly can't think of a point against the Bakery on O'Connell. It's open 24/7, the food is delectable, the atmosphere warm and inviting with fresh flowers on the table and efficient staff to clean up as soon as someone leaves. Despite being a seemingly constantly busy bakery you're never in line long as there are multiple staff working the counter, making coffees or milkshakes or adding to their freshly baked goods. As well as the high number of hot foods ready to eat there are pies, cakes, slices, sausage rolls (you name it) pre wrapped for a quick dinner or a ready dessert. Bakery on O'Connell claim to have the best donuts in Adelaide. Well I for one can say that they certainly have the best donuts I've ever tasted (and I've traveled the world). They also have delicious cheesecakes, slices and honey bees. Not to mention their pie of the month at the moment - a beef, bacon and pork pie - was amazing! But don't take my word for it - get down there today and see what you've been missing out on

Yelp
Great bakery. We stopped on a Saturday morning with a party of 5. We picked up several pies - chicken parmi, lamb, sausage and beef with peppers. All were excellent. Coffee was great as well - from the capachino to the large black.

Yelp
It is what it is, been around forever and you know what your getting when you walk in the door. Can't fault the random pies of the month either.

Yelp
Literally the best bakery in Adelaide! The fact it's open 24/7 makes it so convenient as a shift worker to go on late night OCSB dates with my partner and work colleagues. The potato pies are the best things I've ever tasted in my life

Yelp
coffee was terribly bitter gave me indigestion ... followed by a migraine cup was one third froth ... if I wanted a SMALL cup of coffee, I'd have ordered a SMALL cup of coffee! poor quality pastries ... cheap ingredients ... high profit margin not for the discerning customer pies and pasties are not much more than cheap 'filler' doughnuts can be used as door stoppers ... heavy ... doughy ... and clearly cooked in oil that hasn't been changed in a looooooong time! the WORST quality, sickening, semblance of chocolate on top ... the only thing going for this place is that it's open all hours ... the 24/7 bakery on Norwood Parade is far superior ... particularly the service

Yelp
This place is great if you want something quick with great flavor ,been coming here for a few years now, and have not been disappointed with there hot food. It's only my opinion but I would say some off there dessert could do with a bit more flavour but my husband likes them. Always get quick service even when they are very busy and staff are always friendly and polite. You must try the soups they are yummy. I hope they could expand their business to other area in adelaide

Yelp
This bakery is THE BEST bakery I have ever been to. Walking here at 3am discussing the purpose of life and existence of God with my good friend Ev Mate has been one of my most enjoyable and spiritual experiences. My good acquaintance Todd earned the nickname Cakesy at this bakery on account of that he downed one of this bakery's delicious pastries in a single bite. I would highly reccomend this bakery to everyone when they are off their chops it is a great and eye-opening experience. Thankyou Bakery on O'Connell!

Yelp
Bakeries are perfect for every meal/snack of the day and therefore a 24 hour bakery?! PERFECTION. Not to mention, the range in this one is possibly the largest I've ever seen. I love the "put-togetherness" of the place. Not too fancy, not too casual and in a perfect location. Thank you from the bottom of my stomach for being open when everyone else is closed :)

Yelp
This bakery provides a great menu for breakfast or lunch and has a vast array of baked goods for sale. There are pies, pasties, sandwiches, salads, cakes etc. Service is excellent. Seating is very good.

Yelp
This place is never empty despite opening 24/7. Perfect place if you crave for something sweet and light. Tried lots and lots of slices even took away some more. Must try is their Nutella Hearts. Their pies are so so.
