While visiting Atlanta, I stopped by Balkal International Food, and I’m so glad I did! Living in Charlotte, it’s hard to find truly fresh international products but this place feels nice. They seem to have everything you could need, from snacks to pantry staples, and everything looked clean, organized, and inviting. I picked up some sunflower seeds, and they were so fresh and full of flavor. You can really tell they care about quality. If you’re looking for a store with fresh international foods and a wide variety of products all in one place, Balkal is a must-visit in Atlanta. I’ll definitely be coming back whenever I’m in town! 🌻🛒

Stepping in was like finding a hidden treasure! As someone who often yearns for the flavors of home, discovering this international food store has been an absolute godsend. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was struck by the incredible array of products from all corners of the globe. You won’t be disappointed – you'll be delighted! I know I'll be a regular customer for years to come.

First Class Customer Service!!!! Have ordered many different food items on-line and shipped to my home on the West Coast. Always arrives well packaged and fresh. Had recent issue ordering on-line. Contacted Bakkal directly and spoke to "M." She expertly handled my order and sent follow-up messages. I am supremely pleased with both the quality of food and Customer Service 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

While the variety and abundance of products in the store is great , i can’t help but to give a bad review as me & my partner entered the store we weren’t greeted ( two associates at the front ) the people that followed are greeted as well as the next. (I’m a server of 10 + yrs I know proper customer service regardless of personal views) Those people did not the share the same skin tone as us. So I couldn’t help but notice the lack of customer service and availability to us especially with this being our first time. I hoped to shop there while embracing the culture but I see our presence wasn’t appreciated. Of course they will take the money who wouldn’t but I could tell the cashier didn’t feel happy to assist us. I really don’t appreciate that, we’re in the US not any of the other countries, wanting our money isn’t enough pay people respect when coming to live and do business here . I more than likely won’t return , if you look anything like me I WOULDN'T SHOP HERE . There are plenty more International stores that will welcome us to shop there.

This is a great, small convenient store with a lot of Eastern European goodies. They seem to be a bit cheaper than the Buford Hwy Farmers market which I appreciate! I found organic bullion there which is exactly what I was looking for!

Google
Little over priced. But I can live with that, what I can not live with is the very low quality pistachio which they claimed it was their "best sellers". Which added insults to the injury.

Google
A great variety of groceries that you do not find at normal stores. Incredible pastries and bread. Super nice staff and very friendly owner. I highly recommend this if you're looking for Turkish Middle Eastern and Russian groceries.

Yelp
I just received my order from Bakkal - it came in as rotten mush. It stunk to high heaven. I called customer service and she said it was my fault for not paying $150 for expedited shipping on a $50 order, that they did everything they can do but shipping it to where I live was too far. They shouldn't have offered then! She said I likely won't get a refund. I am so grossed out and disappointed, this place is a scam. DO NOT PURCHASE from here.

Yelp
My first visit - I was looking for some Turkish and Greek foods for co-hosting my book club's discussion on "The Island of Missing Trees, taking place on the island of Cyprus with Turkish & Greek populations and cuisine. When I first called the employee was very knowledgeable and helpful. This led to visiting the store itself (in Sandy Springs). The employee was extremely helpful and patient, explaining the nationality/ethnicity of many products. She volunteered great ideas on items to serve. I purchased Greek Baklava, Turkish Delight, fig jam, Turkish crackers and a Turkish spread similar to yogurt/cream cheese with scallions. The store has an extensive array of products. I'll be sharing my experience with my Book Club! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
This is an outstanding market. It stocks a wide range of food items for good prices. The staff is beyond amazing! Miriam was so helpful aiding us find the best tea, coffee and chocolates. We cannot wait to return to buy more goodies. I highly recommend this store.

Yelp
Lovely little Eastern European supermarket with a ton of products! I was looking for Turkish coffee for one of the doctors I work with but I walked out with a bunch of goodies to try! Little sweets, different cooking oils, different teas and coffees, and even a frozen section with imported cheeses, meats, and desserts. This was a really nice surprise to stumble upon :)

Yelp
The store has a good selection of Mediterranean snacks, chocolates, cheese, frozen foods and more. I needed to purchase some chocolates for a charity event. The manger was helpful and provided some good options. They have a great selection of European chocolates at a much cheaper price than other commercial stores. The manger also offered to ship my items which he carefully packed in a 'cooler bag' to ensure they don't melt in the summer heat. The hazelnut wafer chocolate was delicious.

Yelp
Although i have never been to the actual store, i ordered food online. The shipping fee was reasonable and it only arrived in 2 days with ground shipping.. They seem to have variaety of turkish, bulgarian and romanian food. Their "yufka" aka phyllo dough (supposed to be daily and fresh) did not seem so fresh (maybe because of shipping) but i am so glad it is even available! I made borek and cant wait to order it the next time. The luteniza (bulgarian spread made of pepper paste with eggplants and spices and whatnot) is also very tasty. Give it a try. The "oncu" pepper taste is a brand i recognise (what my mom uses at home in turkey) and i am sure it tastes fine though i didnt open it yet. The dry "manti" aka turkish ravioli is not top notch quality ( i knew that when ordering but unfortunately thats what they import), i wish they could import superfresh manti which is frozen and tastes slightly better. But this helped with my cravings too. NoAll my order was in plastic wraps and nothing was broken or spilled. Good job guys! Even though i felt bad for individual wraps, it did keep them safe. They also put the perishables in a special bag witb some coolers. Thats very nice of them. My only complaint so far is the selski sujuk. Luckily it is made of beef (on the website, there is no info and i was afraid it could be pork).. However, it has some horrible spices in it, and smells horrible. It is almost inedible.. I will never order it again and i suggest you import a better quality bulgarian lokanka... The foreigners that do not know much about the food sold here should also keep an eye on the "baldo rice". This type of rice is even better than arborio rice for risottos and considered highest quality in turkey. Suggest it to all those who stop by. Currently they ship orders above 200 dollars for free. I wish they lowered the shipping fees or did free shipping for orders above 50 bucks, like some other websites do...

Yelp
Great place to find Middle Eastern, Turkish, Romanian ect. products. So happy to find Simit, Turkish bread. It was frozen, not as good as fresh of course, but better than nothing. The Romanian flat bread is so soft, fresh and delicious. A bit on the pricy side, but that is inescapable. The people are friendly and do acknowledge your presence.

Yelp
Bakkal International Foods is a gem! The selection here is amazing. The store is truly stocked well - you can tell there's great thought put into stocking the store. Today was our first time shopping here despite living in Buckhead for over a decade. We were literally regretful for not having shopped here sooner (why did we not come here sooner?!?). My husband and I were blown away by how lovely the store, its kind people, and generous offerings are. One wonderful gentleman kindly asked if we needed help finding something, then both he and another wonderful gentleman assisted and made tea recommendations. Despite having such amazing high-quality imported goods, the goods were fresh and the prices quite reasonable. Obviously, the store is popular and has great turnover, thus ensuring fresh ingredients. There's even fresh bread from local bakeries that you can buy to accompany all the delicious foods you can buy there (e.g. lovely cheeses, olives - soooo many to choose from, acuka - once again, sooo many choices, pickles!). The spice options are also fantastic - example: at least three or four different za'atar blends, urfa biber, Aleppo pepper. AND - they have barberries! If you are having guests over and making a mezze platter, this is the place to come to. If you have time to invest in cooking, this is where you come for dry goods like bulgur and smoked basmati rice. The freezer's offerings are lovely too. Bakkal is such a fantastic store to have in our community. We are quite lucky to have them in our midst.

Helpful customer service Clean store Large variety of products High quality I like the store's ability to provide so many different tastes from Mediterranean, Turkey, Balkans, and Middle East.

Yelp
I stopped here today seeking a very rare oil. The store didn't have it , but the store owner knew exactly what I was looking for. It was very special and rare and a blessing - the owner share one of his personal items with me as a gift! I will be spending money here going forward and taking my blessings to this place... Thank you so much for today, it really meant a lot to share the item with me today!!! Many blessings to this place- these owners are kind and are really good people! GOD's Blessings and Peace!!!

Yelp
This place is really great it has all the things an Arab/Mediterranean family would want or need in their kitchen. From special cheeses we only find back home, to beans that we usually snack on from the street, Bakkal has it alllll! I try to make a visit at least once a month to satisfy my cravings while I'm away from home. Bottom line, definitely visit this store if you're homesick, they literally have everything you can think of to make from the other side of the world. Staff is also super friendly and welcoming and they sure do know where everything is located! They also speak Arabic, Turkish, and Russian (I think)

Yelp
Thanks to my Turkish roommate, I now know where to get a plethora of Middle Eastern goodies at reasonable prices! I normally buy most of my exotic foodstuffs from either DeKalb Farmers Market or Buford Highway Farmers Market, but this place is a great addition for those hard-to-find items like shredded phyllo dough, Turkish tea, sücük, etc. I love the layout. I love that they have a little bit of everything. AND if you're a practicing Muslim, it's a great place to get Halal meat. The staff is friendly and the shelves are always stocked beautifully! A+ to Bakkal!

Yelp
Bakkal litereally means a grocery store in Turkish. Unsurprisingly, they have Turkish apple tea and Haribo candy and baklava and most other Turkish things you'd want (no Efes though). Took me back to my good ol' istanbul days... They were playing Turkish pop music until I walked in, and they switched it to K-pop. Thank you, my Turkish brothers. It's in a convenient location- worth checking out!

Yelp
This place is awesome! They have every Middle Eastern ingredient you can think of, and then some! I was on a mission to find kataifi for a Turkish dessert recipe, and found it here. I totally agree with all the other reviewers that all the employees are extremely helpful and friendly here- I will definitely come back. Lots of frozen pre-made desserts to choose from as well as other frozen ingredients, and a large refrigerated section with meats, cheeses, olives, etc, not to mention an awesome assortment of groceries.

Yelp
The best international and oriental food store in Atlanta. The food selection is amazing! I feel like I'm in my home country (Bulgaria). The owners are so friendly and helpful. They always greet me with a smile, help me with advice on the best and freshest foods, and always help me carry my bags to my car. Shopping at Bakkal is such a great experience, not just shopping. Thank you!!!

Yelp
Was passing by one day & Yellow & Red sign got my attention. Stopped by the next time I was around that area & went in. A real neat & clean International grocery store with a lot of specialties that can't be found in big chain supermarkets. Great prices & great customer service. Every thing is organized & isles are just neat & clean & easy to find things.

Sabah C.

Yelp
The only thing that holds them back from 5 stars is that their meat is very overpriced. Their customer service is amazing and they are super sweet on the phone.
