I came here for dinner with my partner and we had an incredible time, despite a few hiccups with the service. The evening started off on a weird note - it took quite a while for anyone to notice and seat us, despite having a reservation. It seemed the hosts were a bit disorganized and distracted when we arrived. We were finally seated at two seats at the bar, overlooking the open kitchen. We were welcomed by one of the chefs, and had some time to look over the menu and cocktail list. Again, it took us a while to flag down one of the waitstaff to take our cocktail orders, and it took quite a while for them to arrive. My drink was ok, while my partner really enjoyed his.
As we were sitting by the kitchen, we asked the chef nearest us for his advice on what to order (I actually asked him to decide for me as I had no idea what to take). I'm a vegetarian who doesn't really like eggplant, but he convinced me to order the smoked eggplant starter followed by the gyoza in broth for my main course. My partner had fish. I was so happy that I took the chef's recommendation, because both starter and main were delicious. We also took a couple of their homemade breads and dips to start, which were amazing. Neither of us were hungry for dessert, but we took the crashed snickers, which is literally "crashed" tableside. It was too rich for me with the dark chocolate sauce, but I enjoyed the parts that weren't too chocolatey.
While some of the service was weird, and I didn't love the cocktails, overall this dinner was amazing. The quality of the food, the helpfulness of the chef, and the ambiance of the restaurant (it's very loud and busy -true to its name) made for a really fun, memorable evening and more than made up for the frosty reception.
