If you have seen my restaurant reviews you know I do not 5 star very often. This place is great. Our group all.had something different and it was all good. The taken for granted sides are outstanding. Fries are fresh cut and cooked perfect, onion rings are as good and better than most places. The "rock chips" are splendid. Service was good. Drinks were refilled and the place is good sized. Love it. Generous tip as it was worth it. I should have taken food photos.

We were heading south and had to stop in Helper for gas. When we decided to see if there were any restaurants around, this was the first one open long enough for us to have dinner… but despite limited choices in town, this restaurant clearly prioritizes service and good food for reasonable prices. The waitresses worked together seamlessly to take our orders, refill our drinks, and deliver the food. I’d definitely stop here again!

This restaurant is a delightful gem nestled in a historical part of Helper. The town exudes charm from a bygone era, which adds to the overall experience. Inside, the service is not just kind but also incredibly attentive. The menu offers a fantastic selection, and the rock chips are exceptional. I savored a delicious steak sandwich that exceeded that expectations. The place is impeccably clean and tidy, creating a fantastic vibe that enhances your visit.

Google
Had a good burger here. Sweet potato fries were a little undercooked, but that may have been because we were the last order before they closed, so they may have been rushing a bit. We will try it again.

Quaint little place with obvious history in this little town provides a wonderful meal with superb service. We happened to go on a day when a party of 30 had arrived before us. They took up the whole middle section and things were backed up. The servers still attended to us as well as they could, and our meal was amazing. The chicken tender, the sandwich - that I had as a tortilla wrap - was juicy and delicious, and the sweet potato waffle fries were the best I've had. I could eat nothing but that next time. This is an astonishingly good restaurant.

Google
Super fun place, normally I don’t get fries or chips, I got the rock chips and ate them all. The patty melt on rye with cranberry jalapeño sauce was delicious. My friend got a chicken sandwich and said it was good. Trinity was our server and did a great job. If your passing by Helper stop in here it’s worth it.

We had a little business to conduct in Helper. Never had a reason to stop in before. But turns out it's a cool little town! Lots of cool buildings and old signs. We got hungry, afternoon lunch. Balance Rock was recommended. Really liked the seating and atmosphere. Many great options on the menu. Not too pricy, particularly when fast food had closed that gap a lot in the last several years. Got a Reuben and Fish and Chips. We were told the house fries were really good. The fries weren't exactly our style - kinda 'wet' and not very cooked. Reuben was good but not mind-blowing. Fish and Chips were good, not great. Simple house salad had some peppers and diced onions. Clam chowder was very hot (which I love), but very, very thick. Free scone with dinner is a nice touch. Would prefer honey over honey butter. But that's just me 😉 Overall it was a nice lunch. Enjoyed the food, but it didn't differentiate enough from most standard offerings for the same items. The staff was very good. Attentive. Helpful. Nice. The serving sizes were good. We don't eat a ton and we ended with leftovers. Recommend if you need to stop for food in the area. Definitely worth a visit. But maybe not on my favorites list for food.

We stopped for lunch on a drive from Moab to Salt Lake City. Everyone’s food was delicious! I had the French toast and a scone. Absolutely delicious. Very neat restaurant.

Yelp
What an incredible spot, and open on Sunday! The service was immediate and inspired, the food of quality and novelty, and the vibe so welcoming. I smashed my plate in under 3 minutes, despite the massive portion. Will definitely return anytime I'm passing by.

Maurine R.

Yelp
We are there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and it was almost full. Despite that fact, the energy was chill and we were quickly given drinks --btw the BEST Arnold Palmer I've had in a very long time --- and our order taken. I had just enough time to admire the gorgeous greenery and art on the second floor 'catwalk' and then our food arrived. I ordered the Anasazi grilled sandwich And the rock chips. Rock chips are absolutely fabulous potato chips, toasted to perfection. My sandwich was amazing! The cheese was melted, the chili's spicy but not overwhelming and the turkey was roasted as well..My husband ordered the patty melt and fries. He gave it a big thumbs up! I one hundred percent recommend this eatery while you're visiting canyonlands or the carbon corridor!!

Bruce W.

Yelp
Wow! This place is excellent. The atmosphere is like being in an old general store. I highly recommend the beef stroganoff sandwich with rock chips. The service was excellent.

Bobbi H.

Yelp
There Gomer pile is great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is a warm welcoming restaurant

Karen C.

Yelp
Went foe valentines day paid 60$ foe staek they were so over cooked and tough husband and I went home hungry they are usually cooked perfect but this time it was awful

Yelp
Best cafe in town!! Well, the only cafe in town. Helper is an amazing little town with an explosive and exiting history. They do some great eggs and bacon. Some of the other items can get pretty heavy, like the country fries, but dang tasty!! The service is just okay. They don't really have any competition, so they know they don't really have to pay too much attention to a single dude ... but I have been ignored for a while waiting for my takeout while it sat on the shelf, ready to go, all while the waitstaff fluttered around me until all the rest of the food was distributed to the entire room. I get that they want it to be fresh, but taking my money and giving me my food would've only taken a minute of their time.. good for them for making sure the diners in the room were taken care of while my eggs get colder.. I am capable of giving a tip too, but I definitely won't tip if they won't serve. The setting is fantastic with killer views of the book cliffs right outside and it's a quaint little town. All in all, I would recommend having breakfast here, just be aware you might get a little ignored.. Three stars out of four. (5 stars only happens when the place goes above and beyond)

Yelp
Drove through Helper on a road trip to see the Main Street. It was Monday so everything was closed except this place! It was soooo good, we got great hot sandwiches and the rock chips are fresh made. We are so glad we stopped here and will be telling others!

Bonnie H.

Yelp
Balance Rock is always our go to when driving through Helper. The food is delicious, they have huge portions! Today I got the balance rock chicken sandwich with rock chips. The rock chips are always amazing! My husband enjoyed the Anasazi turkey melt and my son got the roast beef with au jous. No photos because we are everything too fast! Service is always fast and kind. Love this place.

Meg J.

Yelp
Interesting spot. Very open restaurant. The food was good but nothing spectacular. The service was great especially since she seemed the only server working the tables.

Jerry R.

Yelp
Stopped in Balance Rock Eatery & Pub for an afternoon snack. The place is spacious and yet somehow cozy, obviously very popular with the locals. They have a pretty good menu and the service is quick. Portions are decent for the price. Seems a little odd that they bill themselves as a pub when the only alcohol on offer is a very limited choice of quite-overpriced beer.

Kristy M.

Yelp
We have been in Helper for about 18 hours total and have been to Balance Rock three times! Friday night for dinner, then takeout, then breakfast. Everything we tried is amazing and this is a must-stop in Helper right on the charming little Main Street. If you're not from Utah, you might not understand a "scone," but it is like a doughy fried fluffy bread served with honey butter. It is included with most meals and they are perfect. We also tried the chicken fried steak, grilled lemon pepper chicken, hamburger, and clam chowder for dinner and loved it all. For breakfast, we loved the eggs, omelet, hash browns, toast, sausage, coffee, and yes ... another scone. We purchased some local art there also! It's a spacious building that's light and airy but they have retained many of the original elements. The locals who work here are super friendly and have lots of good recommendations for local activities. Extra bonus shout out to Darcy who was so nice and Ruth, who helped me find the owner of our Air BnB after I locked myself out with my phone inside!

Heather T.

Yelp
Been there twice for lunch. The wedge sandwich and anasazi sandwiches are delicious. Went for dinner. It was good, but more just ok compared to the sandwiches. You have to be ok with the small town service vibe. Super friendly, not always fast.

Miss K.

Yelp
Great open space, clean dining area and bathrooms. This was one of the only places open in town, so it was fairly busy. Food was good, nothing exceptional, but we were happy and full when leaving. I was more interested in the space. It was very well done (decorated) I'd definitely come back if I'm traveling through again

Kim B.

Yelp
Halfway between Moab and Park City is this amazing gem in the tiny town of Helper population 2,000. Historic Main Street could be a movie set. Menu at Balance Rock was extensive. Huge portions and so delicious! Chili was to die for. Very clean and beautiful historic building. Great find!

Joe Joe B.

Yelp
So you are on your way from Salt Lake City to Moab and you think, "great there will be nothing good to eat." Well you couldn't be more wrong. In the cutest little town of helper is balance rock. And this is a must stop on this journey. Not only is the town cool to spend some time inside, the food at this traditional American joint is on point. Big welcoming space. Super clean. Staff of so friendly. And the place clearly is a local favorite as everyone seems to know each other. Don't let that discourage you, they are happy to have guests. Now for the food. This is what so many similar places try to mail and just fail. They do it right. Perfectly crisp chicken friend stake that holds up to the gravy (which is gravy not just paste.) The anasazi melt is fun and unique with a taste of the west. And honestly their chili is maybe the best I have ever had! Do not pass this place by!

Theresa A.

Yelp
We had never been to Helper UT, before and it was lunchtime. We stopped on a lark and had a wonderful experience. The place was packed (a good sign) so we took the two bar/counter spots. The staff was very efficient despite being very busy. Husband got a reuben and I think we all know how much those can vary. He was super pleased. We both got onion rings as a side which we agreed were very good too. I accidentally ordered their cheeseburger not paying any attention to size and it was was HUGE - a real big patty. Cooked nicely. Overall a great meal. Pretty sure we'd stop again if passing through or near.

Barbara C. V.

Yelp
Had a steak sandwich and fries. Both were great! Service was quick. This is a nice place in an old building. Lots of cool things to look at. I highly recommend it if you're in Helper.

Colby C.

Yelp
Great little spot to eat in Helper! The staff is friendly and fun. The food is quality, fresh, and varied. I think a lot of people come back here for its casual atmosphere, great drinks, and big tables for getting together. We had their French toast and Gomer Pile. Both were delicious and filling. In contrast, we had similar plates in Moab the day before, and it was bland and disappointing. Not here though! Every bite was flavorful and enjoyable. The bathroom was fun too. Can't turn down a tub style urinal. The stall had an old west decor to it, complete with shovel handle to open it.

Christine C.

Yelp
This place is located right in the center of Main Street on a quaint little town called helper. The service here is excellent. They greet you right when you walk in and the service is fast and efficient. I had the holy grill and they have an option of fries or rock chips which are fresh homemade potato chips with barbecue sauce. They are absolutely delicious. I always come here when I drive to Moab.

Ed W.

Yelp
This is my first time coming to this place while visiting the area. If I wasn't with family I wouldn't have known this place existed. It's in the old part of town on Helper Main. The food was quick and fast and most importantly Delicious. The steak was medium well the way I like it. It was juicy and tasty. The fries were darker then I expected and I thought might be hard and burnt. Totally opposite. The salad on the other hand was mediocre to say the least. I love a good salad so this is gonna have to be a hard pass. Everyone else's plates looked tasty and ample portions. Ya if in Helper and hungry I'd suggest you make a stop on main st.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Yum Yum Yum I have been there several times in the last week and each and every time is amazing!. The food is fresh and made from scratch. The service is fantastic and the prices are reasonable.

James Peters ..

Yelp
Keep on truckin' past this place! Mediocre food - just not tasty at all. The fries are greasy, and the food didn't taste fresh at all. It's nearly always a bad sign when the staff doesn't ask how your food is! We thought the food tasted weird, and perhaps reheated at least once.

Nycole R.

Yelp
This restaurant is a mix between small town diner and pub. It's not really either of them, but it takes the best of both and mashes them together. It's a spacious, two story place with open seating on the main floor and what appeared to be an art gallery upstairs (I did not venture up and didn't see anyone else up there, so I stayed put.) The food is good-a step above a chain restaurant but not anything so fantastic that you have to drive out of your way to go here. But worthy of a stop is you are in town and looking for a meal. I guess, due to COVID, that they are taking reservations. When my family walked in, we were asked if we had a reservation, and were still seated with out one-we got lucky. The next few groups that came in either had to wait or decided to check back later. Service is friendly-the server seemed a bit overwhelmed by a large group, but still checked in on us periodically. I think we were a nice reprieve for her from the 10 people at the large table.

Marion L.

Yelp
Superb breakfast with very reasonable prices. Service was exceptional. Atmosphere and artwork are an added bonus. Be sure to visit Ben, Borrow & Steele art studio across the street after a fine meal!

Karen N.

Yelp
This restaurant was a delightful find! We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast (which the two of us shared and we still couldn't eat it all) in a charming and immaculate dining space. Restrooms were spotless. The waitress was friendly and shared information about things to do in the area. Even the chef welcomed us with a wave. Definitely worth the short drive from the highway.

Robert S.

Yelp
First time in Helper and after hiking all day to the Fifth Water Hot Springs, we decided to give Balance Rock a try and they did not disappoint. Menu is similar to a New Jersey diner because breakfast is served all day however we decided on beyond meat burgers which were delicious so stop by if you're ever in Helper.

Ladybird P.

Yelp
Wow. Great food. Quick service. And there are very few places in Utah, where my lesbian partner, and I felt safe, but this would be one of them!

Tram Anh P.

Yelp
We stopped by the spot in Helper old town . It's very nice American style restaurant, the employe was very friendly. I got steak sandwich. However one my sandwich got burn , taste very bitter . the beef texture was ok with the price , but the cook is not recommended

Melissa B.

Yelp
Service and food both excellent. Food came quickly. Spacious interior, good for larger gatherings

Wendi M.

Yelp
We have stopped at Balance Rock a few more times and finally made it here during the lunch hour. Wow! The lunch menu and food are as amazing as breakfast! What a great menu and memorable meal. These weren't just average sandwiches, they were fantastic. I got the Anasazi Turkey (sliced turkey, green chiles, cheese) on perfectly toasted bread, with fries. My gf got a turkey club sandwich with homemade potato chips, and my sister got the 'Italian Stallion' - sliced roast beef, sun dried tomato and cheese on toast, and she asked for au jus on the side. Every one of these sandwiches was stellar! We ADORE Balance Rock!

Marv T.

Yelp
Just went for a ride today with my sweetheart and decided to stop at the Balance Rock Pub...so good! Helper has done a lot of restoration of Historic Main, and Balance Rock is a perfect venue and eatery. Staff were very attentive and the food is excellent! I had the Classic with fries and that is 5 star food right there! You won't be disappointed!

S C.

Yelp
We stopped here because of all the good reviews. The staff was very nice. The food was ok but nothing to get excited about. I ordered the Gomer Pile. Eggs & potatoes part of it were good. The "scone" was doughy which made it inedible for me. My partner got the fried green beans & mac & cheese, which turned out to be fried bites. He will eat most anything & while he ate it all, he said it wasn't very good. Disappointing, for sure. The atmosphere was OK, as well. We loved walking around town. Pleasant little place with lots of galleries & shops & a river walk.

Heather T.

Yelp
Amazing food, amazing prices, and great service . So glad we stopped here. My boyfriend and I ordered the Gomer Pile and split it and still felt more than full . It came with a pancake bigger than my head on the side. Everything was absolutely delicious and filled both of us up. And it was only $13.95. You don't find prices, quality of food, and great service like this anymore. 11/10 recommend.

Laurie V.

Yelp
We stayed in Helper a week and tried several different restaurants and this one was our favorite! The building is really charming and cute. The service was great, and fast, especially in lieu of a large group that ordered just before us. But the food was incredible!! So delicious snd such large portions! It was funny because they had some pics on the menu cover that weren't on the menu, but we were able to ask for them still. They also had some amazing vegan nachos that aren't on the menu but they were incredible. The pancakes were as large as a large plate and so fluffy! We all ordered different items and everyone was delighted! Next time we go back to Helper. This will be the first place on my list!!

Sherry F.

Yelp
I think they were the only restaurant open in town because they were busy. The staff was friendly. Love the atmosphere and the bathrooms were spotless. We had 2 different sandwiches one with their fries and the other wit their homemade chips. Everything was delicious. They were great with my service dog too.

Jayde K.

Yelp
Waited 30+ mins for our food and then never even received one of our meals everyone else was done eating by the time the waitress noticed we never got the other meal. Waitress Barely said sorry about it.

Tina S.

Yelp
Such a cute little place to eat! They serve breakfast all day. My husband had the breakfast burritos.....there are 2 and they are big! My son had the grilled cheese and fries, nice large portion. I had the bacon cheeseburger, with fries, again nice large portion. The burger was freaking amazing! I will for sure be back to try more! I had a bite of the burrito too and DROOL!!! So tasty and I plan to try that one with bacon instead of the sausage the hubby had. The kid and husband both loved the grilled cheese. The staff is super friendly and quick with the food. We came to this little town 7 years ago on our honeymoon but didn't stop for food as we had just eaten in the last town, we took photos by the miner and plan to take photos with my 2 year old next we are there, it was a bit cold this weekend to get him out in the snow.

Anastasia T.

Yelp
First of all, (for some reason), my mother was completely tickled by this place. So much so, she bought a shirt that she then decided didn't fit her the way she wanted, so now it's mine. It's definitely a local's place. I noticed that when I saw most of the police department show up for lunch shortly after we arrived. The beer selection is extremely minimal, to the point where they don't even advertise that they offer it. Come here for down home cooking, for sure. I ordered a tuna melt and while it was tasty, I could have made my own to my own liking. My wife and mom, on the other hand, loved their burgers. The town has tons of history that I would love to dive into, so I can't say I wouldn't return, but I would like to see what else Helped has to offer.

Aryal C.

Yelp
Probably every locals favorite spot to eat. Great place for breakfast, especially after a weekend of climbing, hiking, and/or biking. Service is always great and staff couldn't be sweeter. Not to mention, you could always walk across the street to Happiness Within for an espresso drink to start your day off the right way.

John F.

Yelp
Missed lunch when we exited I15. Couldn't find any place to eat for over an hour. But then we found Helper, UT and the Balance Rock Eatery and Pub. The waitress talked to me like we'd been married for years and had awesome recommendations for lunch. I had the Balance Rock Club because, "you can get a BLT anywhere!" with the Rock chips, probably the best house made potato chips I've ever had. My wife had the 2 Egg Full Breakfast for lunch. The highlight for her was the "Utah Scone", "If you have never tried one, you should get it." If we ever find our way back to Helper, we will definitely return. But, since we live in Maryland, maybe you can stop in for us and let me know how you liked it.

Bianca L.

Yelp
We waited for 15 minutes once we were seated to have a server approach us for a drink order. My husband started to ask about the beer selection and the server literally walked away without saying anything and continued doing other tasks around the restaurant. I'm pregnant and was very hungry and even ready to order food at that point. She didn't return to the table and a few more minutes went by. We walked out. Side note- the menu seemed a bit spendy. Grocery store beer selection only at exorbitant prices...

Harry K.

Yelp
Excellent service and great food! Headed there right now to sample their dinner. Decided to stop by and give it a shot. So happy we did.

Jesse H.

Yelp
Everything I'd hope from a small town burger joint. Their menu has a variety of items on it. They serve breakfast all day. I got the German dip sandwich and fries. I tried both the rock chips and the regular fries. Both were tasty but the Rock Chips were better and will only be getting those from now on. I'll definitely come back here I took a bite of the Reuben and it was great. The Rye Bread was on point, had a good amount of Corned Beef and properly drained Sauerkraut. One member of my group for the Pastrami Burger. It was so large he didn't have room for any of his fries. All the burgers are half a pound and look amazing. Next time I come I would like to have one.

Richard M.

Yelp
Hot and fresh, good portions. The rock chips are super tasty, the scone is just right, and the patty melt was super filling. Great place to stop.

Mark F.

Yelp
We stopped enroute from Denver for an early dinner. We had quick and efficient service and enjoyed a very good meal.

Mike L.

Yelp
Awesome vibe. Great food! I highly recommend the Turkey green chili sandwich. Also their fries are sooo good.

Crissy S.

Yelp
Yummy Good food, always super busy. Nice people. Nice location in our little town of helper

Randy H.

Yelp
I travel the State of Utah for my job. This is one of the best eateries in the state. Get the Anasazi Chicken Sandwich, Rock chips (homemade potato chips) and a coke. I don't know why but their coke is always awesome! Oh try the rock chips with the different flavors of Tabasco and Cholula! Will update with a pic when I stop by again.

Cara Y.

Yelp
The food and service was great. The menu had a lot to offer from breakfast to sandwiches to burgers and fried steak. There were no complaints and my husband's Philly cheese steak was outstanding. The town is up and coming. So not miss the art galleries and especially Steven Lee Adams Gallery.
