I had an outstanding stay at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, the service was warm, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. The team went out of their way to make me feel welcome, and nothing was too much trouble.||The room was immaculate and extremely comfortable, giving me one of the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time — the bed was perfect, the room was quiet, and every detail had clearly been thought through.||The food was equally impressive, with a menu that was both varied and delicious. Everything I ordered was fresh, well presented, and full of flavour. Combined with the excellent service, it made for a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.||Overall, this hotel delivered on every level — comfort, food, and hospitality. I left feeling completely refreshed and already look forward to returning. Highly recommended!

Brilliant stay! Would highly recommend. We stayed two nights and ate dinner in the restaurant twice. The room was spacious and had a charming traditionally Scottish feel, but with a fully modern, refurbished bathroom (and a superb shower). Very comfy beds and what impressed us was that even though it was August, it was really cold outside (7 degrees!) and so the hotel had the heating on. So we were warm and felt very much at home. The food was also excellent. It’s very traditional and the dishes are simple but delicious. The steak pie was spot on, and the deserts were all perfect. The dining room was packed every night we were there but we never felt rushed. A great pace of service. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

Chosen because of the great location for touring the area, competitive pricing and also that it has a bar and restaurant so no need to go hunting for somewhere to eat after a long day.|Friendly welcome and excellent service from all the staff throughout the hotel during our stay.|A warm and comfy feeling to the hotel, from the attractive muted tartan fabrics and the dark wood to the leather chairs.|A cosy bar with staff who were very knowledgeable and helpful with an impressive choice of whiskeys that were available (reasonable prices too).|Large room with double aspect windows (room 26) and high ceiling. Very comfy bed and duvet. I did ask for a foam pillow (instead of feather) and one was immediately provided.|Excellent choice of items at breakfast included in the price of the room (best black pudding I've ever tasted!)|that set us up for a busy of day of touring the area.|The dinner menu always included daily specials too which offered a good choice of items. Tasty food and good service. Would recommend booking a table rather than risk missing out as the restaurant is very popular.|I would certainly recommend the Balavil and be very happy to go back and stay again.

Great hotel! We were originally planning to stay in Fort William but decided to change last minute and head to Newtonmore. Room was clean and in a nice location. We also ate at the restaurant in the hotel and everything was delicious. Bathroom was updated and room was clean and comfortable. Only complaint was that the walls are very thin and we could hear conversations on both sides of the room. Great location to explore the fantastic town.

Just on our way home from a fabulous weekend stay at The Balavil Hotel…what a find! ||The service from the staff on front of house, the bar and the restaurant was second to none; big shout outs to James, Mark, Isla and especially Ali who was exceptional. ||We loved our family room and it had everything you needed in all the places you’d expect to find them. Beds & pillows comfy, shower excellent and lovely fluffy towels. Tea and coffee making facilities (always a must for me) were a plenty and I was kindly provided with a proper pot cup to enjoy my chamomile tea and early morning coffee.||We all used the pool after a hard day mountain biking, which was just perfect. Changing rooms, showers and the pool were impeccably clean and me and my son extended our swim while dad was enjoying the sports bar where the TV screens were big and the atmosphere was friendly.||The food in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner was amazing. We loved the traditional Scottish breakfast accompanied by cereal, fresh fruit, muffins with a massive choice of extras to make your fresh toast nice and sweet. Highlights from dinner were the homemade burger, venison and steak pies and the BEST crumble and custard I’ve ever eaten. The boys loved their Sundaes too.||On the value for money front, make sure you book direct for the BEST price ££ and an added bonus is that you get 10% off in the restaurant too.||Already looking for a reason and a slot to come back - highly recommend and can’t wait to return, thanks for having The Harros x

My husband and I stopped here on our camping trip and asked for a hotel room since there was a major storm that day with high winds. They did not have any vacancies but the lady who was working there went out of her way to call around and find a place for us to stay for the night. We also had drinks there and met some really lovely people. Really wonderful service and we are very grateful! If we ever go back to Scotland we will be booking a room there. 😊

What a find! Fantastic small hotel whose staff could not do more to assist us on our stay. Dinner and breakfast thoroughly enjoyed as was our room - great shower too! Ideal base for a hill walking weekend. Hospitality at its best. Thank you all!

The loveliest friendliest hotel we have ever been to.|Beautiful hotel, lovely food and brilliant value for money.||Id give the staff a 10 star if I could, they went above and beyond for us! Special recognition to David so friendly and a credit to the hotel😊 ||Unsure on their names but there was also another lovely man and woman who looked after us and ensured we booked for tea, we accidently fell asleep (after climbing ben nevis) and missed our reservation, they came and checked on us to make sure we diddnt starve the night.||Couldn't recommend this hotel enough. We will definitely return.

Yelp
Our first stay in Scotland and it was fantastic! Mark served us at the bar for dinner and breakfast! Very friendly and gave us great tips on where to visit. The hotel is beautiful and cozy. Their bar had a large whiskey selection to choose from as well.

Yelp
Today, April 23rd, 2023, is my husband and my 47th anniversary. We stayed at this hotel and ate at the restaurant on our first visit to Scotland 6 years ago. We are grateful that we were able to be seated without a reservation and enjoyed the pleasant staff and the food was delicious.

Yelp
Village hotel with a cozy pub area that had a coal and wood burning stove to ward off the cold and damp. The staff was very friendly. My room was small and clean. I had a beautiful view of the mountains from my window. My dinner of Beef and Vegetable pie was delicious! Reasonable prices. ~ Newtonmore is a tiny Highland village in the Cairngorms National Park.

Yelp
The Balavil is a cute little Hotel in Newtonmore, located conveniently on the main road. A big parking space faces the hotel, so parking is easy and included. We drove to the north from Edinburgh and decided to find a place to stay in Newtonmore. All B&Bs from our AA's guide were either booked out or closed. It was a rainy late afternoon, and then we crossed the Balavil Hotel. We didn't plan to stay in hotels, but this one looked like a cute guest house. So we entered. The guy at the reception was uber friendly and really funny. Of course they had a room for us he said, and also one with two single beds. The rate: £35 per person, including breakfast. Awesome! The hotel is quite old, but it totally matches the cute town of Newtonmore. Staying in a fancy new hotel would have been weird. The room was nice and clean, and the beds comfy. There's a bar in the lobby with a local ale on tap and some other scottish beers, and obviously Guinness. They also serve food I believe, we dined out though. After dinner we had a couple of beers and it was really cosy. Breakfast is served in the spacious dining room next to the lobby. It's buffet style, toast and coffee is served by the waitress. The food was okay, nothing very special. The breakfast is probably the hotels weakest part, but it was fine. A big plus: free WiFi for all guests! I would stay again.
