Brilliant stay! Would highly recommend. We stayed two nights and ate dinner in the restaurant twice. The room was spacious and had a charming traditionally Scottish feel, but with a fully modern, refurbished bathroom (and a superb shower). Very comfy beds and what impressed us was that even though it was August, it was really cold outside (7 degrees!) and so the hotel had the heating on. So we were warm and felt very much at home. The food was also excellent. It’s very traditional and the dishes are simple but delicious. The steak pie was spot on, and the deserts were all perfect. The dining room was packed every night we were there but we never felt rushed. A great pace of service. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back.

I had an outstanding stay at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, the service was warm, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. The team went out of their way to make me feel welcome, and nothing was too much trouble.||The room was immaculate and extremely comfortable, giving me one of the best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time — the bed was perfect, the room was quiet, and every detail had clearly been thought through.||The food was equally impressive, with a menu that was both varied and delicious. Everything I ordered was fresh, well presented, and full of flavour. Combined with the excellent service, it made for a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.||Overall, this hotel delivered on every level — comfort, food, and hospitality. I left feeling completely refreshed and already look forward to returning. Highly recommended!

We stumbled upon the Balavil Hotel after Storm Amy blew away our plans, and it turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip! We arrived exhausted after hours of driving and were greeted so warmly. Dinner was amazing-comfort food that reminded us of our grandmothers’ cooking. The staff were friendly, professional, and even had live music in the bar. Cozy rooms, great atmosphere, and genuine hospitality. I’ll definitely be staying here again should I make it to Scotland again and will always remember the comfort and kindness we experienced at the Balavil Hotel.

Friendly family owned hotel where all Staff were helpful, pleasant, friendly. Would stop and have a chat and recommend things to do when visiting Inverness or other areas Any problems were quickly sorted like not wanting paper cups in our room - they gave us cup & saucer, extra milk.etc. Porridge for breakfast. You only had to ask and they were soon on your case with a friendly smile and pleasant manner. They go above and beyond. Wonderful atmosphere, homely and comfortable. We stayed in room 5 and our only complaint was the floorboards creaking everytime you walked from the first bed to the bathroom, trying not to wake my aunt. Tried avoiding, but found it impossible.

Ate dinner in the restaurant, the food was delicious, the burger was fresh made and enormous 🙂 The front bar is cosy and had a decent range of beers and loads of whisky and gin. Service impeccable, we felt really welcomed.

Great hotel! We were originally planning to stay in Fort William but decided to change last minute and head to Newtonmore. Room was clean and in a nice location. We also ate at the restaurant in the hotel and everything was delicious. Bathroom was updated and room was clean and comfortable. Only complaint was that the walls are very thin and we could hear conversations on both sides of the room. Great location to explore the fantastic town.

Yelp
Our first stay in Scotland and it was fantastic! Mark served us at the bar for dinner and breakfast! Very friendly and gave us great tips on where to visit. The hotel is beautiful and cozy. Their bar had a large whiskey selection to choose from as well.

Yelp
Today, April 23rd, 2023, is my husband and my 47th anniversary. We stayed at this hotel and ate at the restaurant on our first visit to Scotland 6 years ago. We are grateful that we were able to be seated without a reservation and enjoyed the pleasant staff and the food was delicious.

Yelp
Village hotel with a cozy pub area that had a coal and wood burning stove to ward off the cold and damp. The staff was very friendly. My room was small and clean. I had a beautiful view of the mountains from my window. My dinner of Beef and Vegetable pie was delicious! Reasonable prices. ~ Newtonmore is a tiny Highland village in the Cairngorms National Park.

Yelp
The Balavil is a cute little Hotel in Newtonmore, located conveniently on the main road. A big parking space faces the hotel, so parking is easy and included. We drove to the north from Edinburgh and decided to find a place to stay in Newtonmore. All B&Bs from our AA's guide were either booked out or closed. It was a rainy late afternoon, and then we crossed the Balavil Hotel. We didn't plan to stay in hotels, but this one looked like a cute guest house. So we entered. The guy at the reception was uber friendly and really funny. Of course they had a room for us he said, and also one with two single beds. The rate: £35 per person, including breakfast. Awesome! The hotel is quite old, but it totally matches the cute town of Newtonmore. Staying in a fancy new hotel would have been weird. The room was nice and clean, and the beds comfy. There's a bar in the lobby with a local ale on tap and some other scottish beers, and obviously Guinness. They also serve food I believe, we dined out though. After dinner we had a couple of beers and it was really cosy. Breakfast is served in the spacious dining room next to the lobby. It's buffet style, toast and coffee is served by the waitress. The food was okay, nothing very special. The breakfast is probably the hotels weakest part, but it was fine. A big plus: free WiFi for all guests! I would stay again.
