Went here for an event and had a great time! Absolutely amazing food and incredibly kind staff. Everyone was very helpful and knowledgeable. I felt respected and enjoyed every moment I spent in the hotel. As a local, I find it puts my mind at ease to know that the Balboa Bay Resort is a great option for a stay-cation. Highly recommend this location for any occasion or vacation!

I am writing this review to express my deep disappointment regarding my recent experience at The Balboa Bay Club/Resort. As a loyal member for 20 years, I have stayed and dined at the club countless times, always appreciating the level of service and hospitality. However, my most recent visit fell far short of the standards I have come to expect. Prior to my arrival I specifically requested a one bedroom suite on the members side due to its location, its refrigerator and microwave, as I was traveling with my young granddaughter. I was assured that this room was reserved for me, and was specifically told the room was available. My written confirmation stated that it was a one bed suite on the members side. Upon check-in I was informed that it was not available. One can only assume that it had been given to another guest with a two day stay without giving me any prior notice. Instead of offering an equivalent alternative, I was assigned a room that was completely unsuitable, located on the public side of the resort, above the restaurant, where the noise and activity would have been disruptive for me and my granddaughter. When I raised my concerns, I was offered the Governor's Suite, which was entirely inconvenient. Not only was it at the far end of the club, but it was also on the non-member side, tucked away in a dark corner of the resort with a view of the parking lot. I fail to understand how this is considered a "Governor's Suite." Had I been informed in advance that my requested room was unavailable, I would have made different arrangements or chosen not to come at all. What was even more disappointing was how this situation was handled by the staff. Rather than making an effort to resolve the issue with professionalism and courtesy, I was met with indifference, even after speaking with both the club manager and the reservations manager. Instead of taking accountability, they placed the blame on me stating that room requests cannot be guaranteed. However, I was never told that it was not guaranteed, I felt dismissed and treated as an afterthought. Given my long-standing relationship with the club, I expected better communication, professionalism, and consideration. This experience was both frustrating and disappointing, I was forced to drive back on the same night because of their oversight and assumptions. I sincerely hope that the club re-evaluates how it handles member reservations and customer service in the future. A side note this has happened before. It is very disruptive to the guest who believes they have reserved a certain room and are given something else. I would not stay at this resort. Their staff is incompetent and you never know where you might end up.

The staff at the restaurant were all incredibly polite and attentive, always making us feel welcomed and in great spirits. At the restaurant, every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious, and considering it’s part of a hotel, the prices were surprisingly reasonable. So that we found ourselves dining there every day! One of the highlights of our stay was the small gifts left by the turndown service. It was such a thoughtful touch to find them on our bedside. I especially loved the relaxation balm – it quickly became my favorite!

We stayed at Balboa Bay Resort for eight days, including the Christmas Boat Parade, which was amazing! The hotel was beautifully decorated for the holidays, with festive lights and gingerbread houses creating a magical atmosphere. Our spacious room had stunning corner water views and a fantastic shower with great pressure and hot water. While the stay was enjoyable overall, there were some issues. Initially, I was entitled to three boat parade tickets, but the hotel changed the policy, saying only names on the reservation could use them. I had to add my wife’s friend to the reservation to resolve this. Additionally, drink tickets were reduced from two to one, and the second drink spot on the wristband was removed. These small changes felt profit-driven, especially given our eight-night stay. Housekeeping was also a challenge at first, with the room not being cleaned for four days despite the resort fee. Thankfully, the issue was resolved, and the staff refunded those days' fees. Everyone was super friendly and eager to provide a great experience, but the back-and-forth over minor issues detracted from the luxury feel. That said, the waterfront location, breathtaking views, and overall resort ambiance were truly spectacular. The staff went out of their way to make the holiday season feel special, and the attention to detail in the decorations added an extra layer of charm. It’s clear the resort strives for excellence, and with a few tweaks, it delivers a fantastic and memorable luxury experience.

We had a great experience at Balboa Bay Resort. The moment we stepped in, Nicole Hickey with Concierge happily greeted us. While my husband was checking in, Nicole was so kind to give my daughter some crayons and a gingerbread coloring sheet and also gave her the scavenger hunt map and lanyard. She walked us through a map and circled all the great spots to visit. During our stay, she would check in with us everyday to see if we needed anything at all. Seek her out during your stay because she’s a gem and will steer you to all the highlights of your visit! :)

The Balboa Bay Resort was Exquisite! Frontline staff was unbelievable so attentive so friendly so wonderful! One person in particular, Joshua was So attentive To our every need. Recommended a good restaurant. The girls & new trainee in the Barista coffee bar were so friendly and so kind great at their job. We were visiting from Canada and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We highly recommend this resort.

Staff was extremely helpful and welcoming, especially Loubna. She greeted us every day by name and made our stay very pleasurable. We were visiting because of a reciprocal relationship with our club on the east coast. It was truly a pleasure to spend a few relaxing days at the Balboa Club.

Google
We selected Balboa to host a week long off-site with my leadership team and it did not disappoint. The rooms were great, A&O Restaurant and catering were fantastic, the atmosphere and views wonderful.... but most importantly the people working at Balboa were so kind and helpful. Balboa made this feel like a real luxury experience for my team and went out of their way to be sure our needs were well taken care of.

Yelp
Went here for their Christmas Boat Parade event they hosted. This is a small intimate setting that was just incredible. We will surely make this an annual ritual as long as they have it. Really well organized with food, drinks, and comfortably heated throughout with a perfect few on the parade. I really want to give a shout out to the valet staff. This crew is one well oiled machine and the most efficient operation I've ever scene. With the event we attended and other parties as well as hotel and restaurant guest exiting there were a lot of people. Balboa Bay Resorts Valet has makes this process an art form. Thanks for a memorable evening.

Yelp
We had an amazing stay at Balboa Bay Resort. It's the perfect location for a Newport Beach getaway. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. The front desk, bellman and valet staff in particular stand out. What really made the difference for us is how dog friendly the hotel is. The rooms are spacious and have good amenities, such as a nespresso coffee maker, fridge (with complimentary bottle of rose) and tv with ability to log in to your own Netflix. The pool and pool bar are really nice. It's not a very large pool area, which we liked, so it's not filled with screaming kids. The waterfront restaurant is nice to hang out and have a cocktail or a bite. The menu is not very expansive, but has a few nice options (try the hot crab dip!). It's located close to go-to areas like balboa island and lido marina village. Restaurant options nearby I'd recommend are Starfish and Lido Bottle Works.

Kara R.

Yelp
We drove up from San Diego for a quick one nighter with friends. The Christmas boat parade is so fun! Location is just perfect. I believe they recently did a refresh on this hotel. Well worth the money, we had a ball. I would highly recommend upgrading to a bay view room, we did not but we will next time. The bar/restaurant was great, bartenders were fun too. We did a package deal where we had bracelets for quartered off parade views, we even had a firepit, lots of friendly people. We will be back

Yelp
My job recently had our holiday party at the Balboa and it was amazing. We each had a room and mine was absolutely beautiful and comfortable. The staff were always very helpful and super nice. They always said hi while I walked around the hotel. We had the party in the boardroom. We had a great view of the marina and the food was delicious. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

Yelp
My company held a get together here and I had such a great time! The views were great and the food was so good. We had tacos with 3 different meats (steak, pulled pork, & chicken) with a side of Caesar salad. The steak was my favorite, it was very flavorful and not dry at all. I also loved the croutons that came with the salad, it was so crunchy and well seasoned. We were able to eat our lunch right next to the water, I would definitely love to come back to visit!

Jon W.

Yelp
A big thank you to Ron Rivas and Kat at the front desk who were super awesome and accommodating. A lovely built hotel and well ran by super nice people.

Yelp
Been hearing mixed reviews for this place but still decided to spend a lil staycation anniversary here. First of we booked our reservation thru our venture one points thinking we would get the promised bonuses such as $100 credit and breakfast for two and possible early check in. We arrived on a non busy Tuesday. The front desk merely just dismissed our credit card perks saying that there's a minimum of 2night stay. Long story short not until later that I clarified with my capital one card that I found out that it was a mistake and 2night minimum pertains to American Express card holders. Ugh just placed a bad taste in my mouth Overall stat was ok. Their jacuzzi wasn't even working so really just had 1 pool to enjoy. They have a lil sand area by the yacht docks thinking it will be nice for the kids to play but no this isn't accessible for hotel guests and only for their members. For the price and service and everything else I say there's other better places to choose from

Samantha T.

Yelp
Came for a work trip and fell in love! All the staff was exceptional and I cannot forget to mention hector at the front desk. He was the know all of the area and the most professional concierge I've ever encountered. 10/10 all expectations exceeded by all the staff. If you're looking for luxury look no further! If you need help finding some local places ask for Hector!

Yelp
where do I begin, the experience I've had at Balboa Bay every single time I've been there and from now on I will never go anywhere else, is above and beyond outstanding excellence, I have had the best from the front desk staff that I've ever I've traveled a lot and everywhere else they're so polite kind, the rooms are so comfortable and soothing, their restaurant where you can sit and watch the yachts while you eat your food either inside or outside by the fire pit a few feet away from the most magnificent yachts you've ever seen. Is unparalleled it's a very amazing experience.Bravo balboa bay my current stay at the Balboa Bay included a family member that was ill and me having to go to the hospital and stay at the hospital and then come back, etc. the staff was so empathetic and went above and beyond to make things easier for me in this difficult time. I am so grateful, thank you,, and thank you management and everyone else at this fantastic I wish I had the ability to fly down all the time so I could stay at your resort all the time!

Yelp
Service: 4* Ambience: 5* Taste: 5* Value: 3* Had dinner one night. We had the salmon and steak along with a wine paring. The service was good, not exceptional. The salmon was cooked perfectly, medium and was flavorful. The steak was great, well seasoned and perfectly cooked as well. The mashed potatoes were a little gummy (but in a good way). They really had a good flavor. Paired with a cake bread Chardonnay to start and then with the steak had a glass of Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon. Both were excellent, albeit very pricy.

Yelp
Diamonds and pearls New Year's Eve bash at the Balboa Bay resort! I guess we sort of made this a tradition by coming back again . The crowd was a little different this year , younger and definitely more people. The service was great. The Pixster company in charge of the social media. Photos is always appreciated for New Year's Eve when everyone's all decked out and shiny. We appreciated that this year everyone got to drink tickets , as last year, we had to pay for our drinks. Tables are always first come first serve but if you get there right at nine and you have a large party like we did a table of 12 was perfect we had a full table to ourselves. The band was great . Not my favorite but when you're with people you love, everybody gets up and dances. I don't think we stopped once. We really enjoyed the nibbles the sliders, the quesadillas that they put out around 1130 the ice Belvedere vodka sculpture was appreciated once again. Who doesn't love a good martini pushed through 400 pounds of ice. This was a great event. We enjoyed ourselves once again, and we vowed that we will all come back next year. Thank you Balboa Bay club for bringing on the joy for the new year.

Yelp
Great place to stay! The staff was Amazing, and very accommodating. Our room was amazingly clean and cozy. Definitely try the A+O restaurant, pricey but worth it. The steak melts in your mouth, the fries were crunchy and lovely, and the burger is heavenly. Our only complaint is the bed was totally not comfortable. It is time to invest in new beds I think. We even tried to turn the mattress in hopes it would help... it didn't. But please don't let this stop you from a truly spectacular experience this resort has to offer.

Chris M.

Yelp
Let's start with checking in. While they had my many they also had some odd email, phone number and rewards number. Continuing the oddities was the different rate. Then I was given the age old 'we upgraded you' which ended up with some stored chairs and umbrellas in a patio area behind the pool. Not sure how this room is in any way considers an upgrade. There is ten feet of cable coiled under the desk, rips in the wall paper and on and on. However I was told by the desk that the rate over $500 a night plus fees plus valet plus plus plus was great. This is a great example of systemic greed. By the way be ready for $20 plus dollars a shot for a drink, puddles of urine in the bathroom, fridge in commissary broken and all The other fees of parking and so on. Only one full Size towel In the Room. This property in NO WAY commands the $500 plus a night rate it commands!

Rob C.

Yelp
The review is only from my brief but good experience attending an event. This place feels swanky. Definitely worth visiting this place to check it out if you are local. I am not sure about the stay, offerings, or resort service but so far, attending some event, it seems good! The place is right in front of the Newport or Balboa bay with nice views including docked boats. Parking is Valet as well as self parking. One day I'd like to stay here to give a proper review, including amenities, rooms, food, and service. But for now, based on my brief albeit good impression, this will suffice.

Emily J.

Yelp
We came here for the Wine Festival. But please, Balboa, host more events so that everyone can gaze upon the beauty that is this Resort. It looked wonderful and I sooo wish I had booked a room for the night. The food was great, everyone was very kind. The only downside was the parking, but I mean it was a-bustling when we arrived, so I'm not surprised.

Brian S.

Yelp
If I could rate this a negative number I would. I would not recommend this for the price and quality. Went for Father's Day for the lobster and seafood but difficult to get the lobster and had to request it. The quality was horrible. It tasted like it was frozen and felt like rubber. The service was lacking and hard to get support. I regret going and suggest not going. We got back and some of my family felt nauseous from the meal. I regret eating here and do not recommend the brunch to anyone.

Joanna R.

Yelp
Loved staying here. It's a perfect location central to all the best restaurants and activities. A&O downstairs didn't disappoint! Beautiful views and amenities. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The pool and beach set up were both so fun! Highly recommend.

Doris D.

Yelp
Well done Balboa Resort management team ! Phenomenal customer service. Everyone from valet, bell men, front desk, concierge, house keeping, pool, restaurant, cafe, members desk, Duffy boat attendant, security - were not just professional, they were focused on making the guests completely satisfied. The small touches make the difference. Beautiful location and resort. Complimentary bottled water, bikes and slippers were generous. The complimentary bottle of rose was classy. The complimentary bikes were memorable. Received phenomenal value for the services and would absolutely come again.

Rhonda W.

Yelp
Fantastic location. A&O Restaurant excellent! Reasonably priced. Great for families and activities.

Stacey H.

Yelp
Came here for an anniversary and was so disappointed to be put right next to a large family. We could here the family through the walls screaming at their crying kids till 11pm and to top it off the kids kept trying to open our adjoining door. Because of all the screaming from the kids we ended up having to switch our bay front view to a parking lot view and all they did was take off a dinner for the hassle. Dinner was okay the second time we stayed here we had a reservation for outside at 8:15 so we could hear the live music, waited an additional 30 mins only to be seated inside where you couldn't hear the music at all. Staff tried to open the door but because of kids had to close it. Not a very fun/sexy time at all, especially for the price of the room! Which I was double booked for as well, so I'll be waiting to see how that all gets sorted out. Please check your receipt, the taxes and resort fees will nearly doubled the price!! The staff was super nice for the most part, the ladies at the Blend cafe and the pool bar were amazing, very attentive and friendly! Devon was great too in reservations. Overall I had high hopes for this place as a go to anniversary spot in Newport but will be looking somewhere else because of the thin walls, okay food and price.

Matt M.

Yelp
I recently stayed at Fontainebleau Miami ($$$$$$), and I gotta say, Balboa Bay was a better experience (and far greater value). The resort is in great pristine condition. Never waited for an elevator. Restaurant/bar was excellent. Bar scene good at night. The Blends coffee bar had a variety of grab-n-go protein smoothies and sandwiches/muffins/candy, at fair prices. Fitness center was clean and serviceable. Pool scene was chill. Valet hustled. My only knock is that check-in got a bit (too) confused by our reservations (two rooms under slightly different names), and they could have explained the resort fee vs resort credit situation more clearly. But the resort credit ($40 for the 3 days, I think?) came in handy, applied to food/drink/spa services. Great location too, 15 minutes from airport.

Yelp
The wife and I stayed here for a stay-cation to celebrate our wedding anniversary and enjoyed our time there. However, things didn't start off on the right foot and it wasn't the Balboa Bay Resort's fault. My wife booked online and made a mistake when selecting the room. We were expecting a suite room with views of the water but when we got to our room, it was overlooking the parking lot. My wife already had it in her mind that we would be having breakfast on the balcony and taking in the views of the water but that wasn't going to happen if we were over looking a parking lot. Anyway, I called the front desk immediately and checked to see if they had a suite room with a bay view available and fortunately for us they did and we were able to make a switch, with a bump up in room rate, of course and it was totally worth it. For dinner, we dined at the A+O restaurant located in the hotel. The food was delicious and the outdoor dining experience was enjoyable once the sun went down and stopped shining directly in our eyes. The overall experience at the hotel was enjoyable and my wife and I were able to celebrate, relax and refresh ourselves during our stay. Pricey but recommended!

Jenny B.

Yelp
Wow! Andres just made me feel like a VIP after I just called to make a dinner reservation... what amazing customer service. My husband and I are coming to the hotel for our 10 year anniversary and he just made us feel like royalty in preparation our upcoming stay, even asking me what my favorite champagne is. Wow, wow, wow!

Luana L.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to do their Sunday seafood buffet brunch yesterday and while the resort itself is lovely, the brunch was definitely lacking. And strangely enough, the thing it was lacking most in was seafood! There was very little of it. One smoked fish, one sushi (no sashimi), shrimp and a few snow crab claws.......I did see a handful of oysters, but that was about it. Very disappointing. Hey, it is advertised as a seafood buffet! There was a very nice omelette station, but hey, I make omelettes at home. A good portion of a wall was filled with pieces of different types of meats and cheeses kind of like a charcuterie board but everything out on separate plates. This takes up a lot of space and looks quite abundant. However, we have all done charcuterie boards. Sigh. Another thing noticeable was the lack of enough staff to refill champagne/mimosas, iced teas, or anything else. We actually had to flag down the manager to get our check finished. My husband and I don't normally eat here as there is so much great food in other places to be found however, we were treating a guest to what I thought would be an awesome buffet. I am glad the guest didn't make it! To top it off was the $26.25 service charge per guest added to the bill. No warning! And the blank area for tips was still on the check so if you didn't pay attention you were doing a double tip. Sad. One thing nice was the views.

Kristien V.

Yelp
Wrongly charged deposit and now barely accessible to get the refund... Very poor customer service!!!

Dee M.

Yelp
Hotel should explain rooms are noisy, (hallways + vehicles racing on PCH). I was told traffic noise is less if you can upgrade to 'bay' view. We must have gotten the last unassigned room- just above the valet /garage. Our stay coincided with a 75th anniv. of the 'residents' side- which meant loud music ...we heard it all, but could not walk into the event, since we were lowly hotel guests. Room: meh Housekeeping Very professional & Kind Front desk explained no 3pm check-in, & .... no late check-out possible. Attended a wedding event, and that was top notch - - kudos to our hosts, J & L). No sand or beach access for hotel guests.... Second nite: we stayed near John Wayne airport, and the room was equal to BBR...and one-third the cost.

Leslie H.

Yelp
We hosted a company party here during the holidays in the Commodore Room. The hotel was a beautifully decorated winter wonderland complete with penguins and polar bears. A great place to have a holiday party especially when the boat parade is going on. The guest room was very nice and bathroom was very spacious. Hotel food was great.

Cindy J.

Yelp
We stayed at Balboa Bay Resort February 2024 and we were treated so well. We had the best time during our stay. We loved our King room over looking the bay and yachts, just fabulous. We spent our anniversary at the resort and had a very special time at the A & O Restaurant for our dinner. Everyone at A & O said "Happy Anniversary" which was really fun. We sat at a fire pit with our food and drinks and we watched the sun set over the bay. It was a lovely night. If you're are looking for somewhere special to stay I would recommend thinking about staying at the Balboa Bay Resort. Again I must thank Keiley in reservations who spent a lot of time with me to make all my dreams comes true. I appreciate everything that was done to make sure we had the best time. Thank you very much.

Yelp
Reposting my prior review to remove the link to my blog.   This is a review for Balboa Bay Resort's Sunday Seafood Brunch Buffet.  Such a quality and leisurely seafood brunch buffet!  With bottomless mimosas and a decadent variety of food options ranging from: - raw bar with freshly shucked oysters, mussels, snow crab claws, shrimp cocktail - sushi rolls and sashimi (salmon and tuna): 3 types of rolls - crunchy (tempura shrimp), spicy tuna (a mild spice), and california rolls - cheese and charcuterie - the antipasto, seasonal salad, crudite, and fruit station: a gorgeous and generous selection of artisanal cheese and charcuterie, with all the quality accompaniments (e.g., marcona almonds, honeycomb, savory jam, and pickles) - delicious carving station consisted of thyme and dijon mustard rubbed prime rib (perfectly cooked) and coffee cocoa crusted rack of lamb - the "hot delight" station, which included steamed sea bass, grilled free-range chicken, applewood smoked bacon, rosemary breakfast potatoes, roasted seasonal root vegetables, as well as some kid friendly options, like chicken tenders, mac and cheese, and tater tots - the Belgian waffle in particular is a stand-out that I've enjoyed on both visits. It's perfectly textured with delightful caramelized bits of sugar and so much flavor even without syrup, and served with a delicious whipped cream and berry compote. Normally I'm not into waffles at buffets, but this one is special and something I'd come back to enjoy again and again. - al fresco made-to-order omelette station - bagel station, and - patisserie and dessert bar complete with chocolate fountain It seems like there's something for everyone (and plenty of it too)!  That combined with excellent service, attentive refills/replenishing of drinks as well as buffet offerings, and beautiful waterfront views means this is a great spot for celebrating birthdays and any special milestones!

Yelp
I've stayed here a couple times different times of the year and every time has been amazing! The first time was during winter. Not the best time but we made the most of it. Especially since the hotel is literally in front of the water. Second time was during the summer and man was it a whole different vibe. It was unintentional that I went during 4th of July weekend. There was so much to do. We arrived a little sooner than check in time which was 4pm. (kind of late for check in). But we were able to leave our things at the front desk and headed to the bar area. I suggested we go there since I had been there before and it's been fun everytime. Its great for friends, couples, or families. The food are drinks are amazing!! The weather was nice out so we decided to relocate to the pool. I'm not sure if they always have a live DJ but they did that weekend. They also offer food and drinks by the pool area. The rooms were beautiful and decent in size. Shower and bath available which I love! We decided to hang out by the bar area that evening and it was a great vibe. Bar was packed, tables were crowded and the outdoor patio was full too. They also had private event going on too. Also I was looking for a dry bar and it was conveniently located on there property it was mind blowing for me, I was beyond excited! I really wanted to try there brunch because of the beautiful set up. I actually took a peek on Sunday before I checked out and I literally had heart emoji eyes!! I'd definitely have to try this next time I stay there. Overall, I love this resort!!! It's great for families, friends, couples! The location is immaculate over looking the marina (boats & bikes available for rental) Food, cocktails is highly recommended. And staff is extremely friendly.

Marco Z.

Yelp
Pretty shocked this is allowed at a $600 a night hotel in the heart of Newport. FIRE HAZARD. I literally couldn't close the bathroom door because it hits the toilet. Who engineered this !?!? I brought it to the managers attention, didn't get much of a response and was part of a birthday weekend so I couldn't stick around to find out what happened. It was the same for one of the other guests staying in our birthday reservation block. I think this is a fire hazard and a violation of city building code. I have them a fair chance to address it but for ignored. I literally was sitting on toilet and tried to close the bathroom door for privacy and couldn't.

Yelp
My company had their annual sales meetings here a few weeks ago and put everyone in a room here during our time in Newport Beach. Overall - I'd say the hotel itself is fancier, but nothing too crazy. I'm not gonna lie, I was expecting something a little more. Given it's prime location, I thought the amenities and rooms themselves would be slightly nicer, but I didn't pay for it so I can't really complain. My overall stay though was nice, and the cleaning staff who made sure my room was in order each day did a fantastic job, and also even left a little plant for me on the desk on the second day. The complimentary wine was a nice addition to our stay, and I was grateful our company gave us the option to get massages at the spa next door (apart of the resort). The massage and spa was good, but I've certainly had better experiences. I'd rate my experience and stay here an overall 3.8/5. Great location for sure, but you're limited in walking distance to bars, restaurants, etc since you're on the PCH side and not actually on the peninsula.

Brian K.

Yelp
I haven't stayed at the resort, but this review is for the Mother's Day brunch. We haven't been able to go since before COVID shut everything down, but the return was fabulous. This is by far the best buffet we go to every year. Just a really pleasant experience. The grand ballroom is not overly large and the buffet has everything, an amazing dessert bar, a great charcuterie table, hot breakfast foods, pasta, a sushi bar where they make fresh sushi, eggs and omelets to order, a crepe station and carved meats. Not to mention the loads of shrimp and pre-cracked crab claws and oysters. The wait staff is amazing as well and we can't wait for next year.

Bryan I.

Yelp
Wouldn't call this a resort it's more of a hotel. Rooms are clean and fairly modern but that's about it. The pool is bland and has no view of the ocean. Poolside menu is small and the food is bad. Nachos were soggy and light on toppings. The "resort" is very small, and the most interesting part of it is blocked off for Balboa Bay Club members only. Being a guest does not grant you temporary club access. Self parking automated system doesn't work with room keys, so we were unable to pay for the full night and ended up paying for valet on top of the 2 hour parking. Walking from self parking to the hotel was also confusing and felt unsafe as there is a blind turn into the walk way back to the front of the hotel. Overall it was an overpriced hotel for a very meh experience. You are better off finding cheaper rooms elsewhere and spending your money on all the amazing activities and food in New Port or going somewhere like Pelican Hill for a more grand experience.

Yelp
Been coming here since 2015 and I am used to getting the same guy which I think is the owner. I have always gotten great customer service I met Travis today and he is the epitome of customer service! I appreciate the hospitality of the other workers

Yelp
staying here with some girlfriends was nothing short of phenomenal from start to finish! the staff is friendly and accommodating, the hotel restaurant and bar has a great aesthetic and even better food and drinks, and the pool area is so relaxing! Everything in our room was so clean and we loved having a bay view to wake up to. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Newport or for anyone looking for a simple staycation!

Yelp
I had a great time here. We sent a couple of nights here. It was amazing. They upgraded us to a suite (without a view). We brought the baby so the extra room was great. He had a wonderful time crawling around and it was surprisingly baby proof. They even surprised us with a bunch of chocolates. I think they knew I had a craving. She said I could have as many as I want! Bathrobes, slippers, wine, and chocolate amazing. If you want a piece of fruit or a water bottle check out the gym.

Yelp
This review relates only to the Waterline Restaurant at the Balboa Bay Club. My overall assessment: Atmosphere: Great. Lovely views, design, causal/elegant ambiance. Food: Good Quality overall. Good Variety and great for brunch. Service: Very professional and accommodating staff overall. Ethics and Transparency: Fail. We were a table of four for brunch. When the check came there was a charge assessed of roughly. 130.00 added to what was roughly 100.00 per person. It was listed as something like a 'Service Fee' yet there was still a line for a tip on the CC slip. I asked about this and if this was her tip and she said, "Well, its for all of us to split but I don't get all of it". I asked why it was so high and Imposed rather than at the discretion of the guest and she did not know. She also said her portion of that charge did not come out to 20% so we can add whatever we wanted to that charge. Personally, I find it insulting that on a roughly 400. bill, the club has the audacity to force customers to pay this ridiculous charge which amounts to much higher than 20%. It is the duty of the club to pay their employees and up to guests to decide, based on the service they receive, what they feel is an appropriate gratuity. But not to let guests know this fee up front, and to disguise it as a service charge that most people just pay without knowing what it is because they trust that the club charges fairly, and to force people to pay over 20% to me is absolutely inappropriate, unethical and deceptive. Not what I'd expect from this club. Treat your customers with respect and appreciation and don't take advantage of their patronage or generosity. For this reason they get a 1 star. When you feel cheated it affects every other aspect of the experience. Shameful.

Yelp
Their Sunday brunch totally stands out. Fresh quality food and big selection of delicious variety options. Plus good desert variety as well. Bay sitting and water view . Helpful and courteous staff. Prompt response. Definitely recommended. Fair pricing.

Yelp
My father's assistant booked a room for me for Thanksgiving evening (November 24 ) so I could do physical therapy with him the next morning and be with him and family who flew in from out of state and assist with his caregiving needs. The BBR confirmation email I received states in part: "Cancellation Policy A valid credit card is required to guarantee the reservation. A deposit will be charged at the time of booking in the amount of 1 night room rate plus tax. " When I arrived at BBR with my 11 Y.O. daughter she was alarmed to see a spider crawling on the floor. She told the staff at front desk and they immediately replied "we are taking care of that" even though they had no idea where the spider was located. BBR was informed in advance by email that I would be staying in the room, not my father. However BBR refused to allow us to check into the room using my fathers credit card. Mind you I wasn't going to incur ANY incidentals in any case. THEY WOULD NOT LET ME CHECK IN WITH MY FATHERS CARD (THE SAME CARD THE RESERVESTION WAS MADE IN !) THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT ANY OF MY CARDS VIA GOOGLE PAY THEY WOULD NOT ACCEPT A CASH DEPOSIT I had to drive home with my daughter, thru 1.5 hrs of Black Friday Traffic and missed spending quality time with family the next morning. This morning I spoke with Loyd at the front desk who explained that they do allow guests to check in with cards different from ID but THEY NEED AN AUTHORIZATION FORM FILLED OUT 48 hours in advance ! In order to avoid fraud ??? WHY DIDN"T THEY COMMUNICATE THIS BIZARRE RESTRICIVE POLICY IN ADVANCE ??? The reservation was made 24 hrs in advance and BBR was informed the guest (me) was not paying for the reservation at the time the reservation was made. BBR failed to communicate that we would be unable to use the SAME CARD to check in because we had already missed their bizarre and arbitrary 48 hr deadline to fill out an authorization form. Due to BBR's failure to communicate their unreasonable credit card policy , my elderly father was charged $518.00 FOR NOTHING ! ACCORDING TO OTHER REVIEWS HERE BBR STAFF ARE THE ONES ENGAGED IN FRAUDULENT USE OF GUESTS CARDS !! (See 7/8/2022 review by Paul M) Please read some of the other numerous one star and two star review on yelp. Since 6-24-22 EVERY Yep review here is one or two stars. Management directs people to email them but doesn't resolve the problems they are responsible for creating. I would expect more than carnival hustle scams from a "4 star hotel"

Yelp
Terrible customer service. Called in and advised that I was over charged for both my valet and resort fee. Advised Laura with customer service that I received an email from the resort with a breakdown of fees. She advised that rates changed as of the new year. I advised that my email is dated 1/3/24. She did nothing to correct the situation. This hotel/resort is on the higher end and I would have expected better customer service and a quick resolution no made how low the cost difference is.

Yelp
I was hesitant about booking this hotel because of the reviews, but I am so happy I did. Check in was easy. Self or valet parking. The staff were so nice and accommodating. The room was beautiful with a bayfront view. A large, a big, comfy king bed, large bathroom with rain shower and bath tub. The decorations were so festive. There is a delicious coffee shop within the hotel. The gym was clean and had current machines. The pool is nice, but being winter we didn't swim. Looking forward to next time Bayside.

Yelp
ose H l. Gave us the highest customer service and was helpful and gave us a warm vibe that we sincerely appreciated. We think y9u should promote him and make him the manager.of the restaurant!!! He rocks!!!

Yelp
Check in was a disaster as we were caught in (what the front desk clerk described) as a "shift change" and therefore no one knew if our room was ready or not. We received TWO phone calls from the resort saying it was? Upon check out, our car battery was dead because valet personal left something on in the car. They ended up jumping our car with their truck. Ford conformed that our, less than a year old battery, is fine. A $45 room credit that was supposed to be part of our room package was only applied to ONE drink. Expensive drink! All this to say, beautiful resort with nice location. Just really, really, bad training of staff and poor follow through on service. Not good for the price paid.

Yelp
My husband surprised me with an over night stay for our wedding anniversary. We have stayed here many times and have been happy until this last trip. Let me start my saying there staff was fair but trying to get a hold of anyone before 12:00pm is a waste of your time. I tried to book a spa treatment which felt like I had to go through hoops to make. Then once we checked in to our room the room itself was very average. For 600.00 a night I would expect to not see holes in the upholstery, filthy lamp, a broken door with food stains on the it. The bed was so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep because it was so broken in it was sinking in the middle and could feel the springs did in my back. The spa was average but there front desk was not the friendliest. Spa wait room was ok but the least the could have done was not use it for storage. I've tried to speak to the front desk manager Jasmine and explain how unhappy we were. She was supposed to get back to me and said she would call me the next day only for me to follow up and she isn't working when she specifically said she would be working the evening shift. For 600+ dollars a night we were very unsatisfied and disappointed.

Yelp
Planned a getaway here for an 18th birthday weekend. To start off our trip, our rooms were completely falsely advertised and overpriced. We had what felt like a closet with the view of the valet instead of city views overlooking the Bay like stated. Their excuse was that I booked through a third party... Was greeted by a ROACH in the microwave and a spider in the shower. Our reservation for paddle boards and kayaks were canceled at the time of our reservation/arrival, "due to the wind on the Bay", but was confirmed an hour prior and when we spoke to management, they did not understand why our reservation was canceled?! Pool bar was understaffed, had to continuously ask for our drinks that were forgotten about. Ordered food and drinks through room service for the Duffy boat and was even called to confirm order. When we arrived for our reservation we were greeted by the server with the check. So we signed assuming we had what we ordered. But before leaving we double checked and only had 1/4 of our order! Took them 1 hour to get the rest of our order which cut our trip short in order to not ruin our dinner plans as well. Which also gave my birthday girl a complete panic attack as the experience continued to get worse instead of better. I did reach out to inform Management in person of this issue, rooms gave us a refund for one night and the Duffy Manager said they would not charge us for their oversight. But when we checked out, the duffy and food charges were still charged. And Overall, this Stressful Experience/Weekend Getaway: still cost us $2k (after discounts) which in my honest opinion is still way too much! This Resort is a Members Club, if your not a member, save your money, we don't belong here!

Yelp
I visited for the Newport wine and spirits festival, and the staff and the property and the attention to detail during this event, and everyone of the resort were absolutely spectacular. We're definitely coming back here.

Yelp
Recently visited the resort, and received amazing customer service. Emphasis on amazing...from dining experience at A+O to interactions with resort security...I HIGHLY recommend this location for a great time!

Yelp
We have been staying here for years, and I have to say it has gone downhill. We used to really enjoy it here, since covid things are just not the same at all. To try to order room service, valet etc, the phone didn't go anywhere. Also, they state to use the app you use app and it doesn't do anything. Then we got a massage and the one massage, they had no clue on how to do massages. For the money, I would never stay there again. The service wasn't the greatest and room services food was not very good. I don't like writing reviews like this but it was very disappointing.
