Bale Udang is easily one of the best places to go if you’re craving good local food and variety. It does sit on the pricier end, but the price is justified — both by the quality of the food and the overall experience. This is a place best saved for special occasions, or for nights when you want the meal to feel like an event. We dined at a floating veranda above a vast koi pond, which already set the tone. Despite the steady buzz of diners and traditional music humming in the background, the atmosphere remained surprisingly tranquil — calm, unhurried, and almost transportive. The food was excellent across the board. The standout of the night was the gurame fish, hung kebab-style — crispy on the outside, tender within, and easily the best dish of the evening. The grilled prawns were equally impressive: juicy, lightly charred, and so well-prepared that even the shells were easy to eat. The supporting cast didn’t fall short either — kuah asam with its bright tang, kang kong belacan done just right, and smoky, satisfying cumi bakar. Even the beverages held their own. The latte is best taken hot, rich and comforting, while the orange americano was unexpectedly refreshing and well-balanced. An exquisite dinner from start to finish — one that engages all the senses and lingers well after the last bite.

Place is absolutely stunning! Do yourself a favour and have dinner there. We were lucky enough to get a floating table — the atmosphere was incredible and so relaxing. The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend for a special and memorable dining experience.

We celebrated a birthday here and although letting them know when making a reservation, there was no cake or well wishes. The food was nice, but unfortunately not commensurate with the bill. Service was excellent, no English menu however the waitress was very helpful, patient and friendly. It was fun feeding the fish or getting the boy to do that while we talked and admired the surroundings.

Overall: A beautiful, family-friendly setting let down by inconsistent execution, particularly with food temperature and spice customization. Great for atmosphere, but a frustrating experience for diners with specific preferences or non-Indonesian speakers. · Ambiance for Families: The star of the show. The Bale Kambang area (floating pavilion) is stunning, serene, and perfect for a relaxed family meal. The setting feels special and is very memorable. · Setting: Lush, tropical, and well-maintained, providing a true sense of escape. The Not-So-Good: · Food Temperature: A critical flaw. Almost every dish arrived cold or barely warm, significantly diminishing the enjoyment and taste of the food. This suggests issues in the kitchen-to-table process. · Spice Level Inflexibility: Despite requesting less spice, the kitchen was unable to adjust the heat level for any dishes. Every item was uniformly spicy, which is problematic for families with children or those with lower spice tolerance. The chef's inability to modify this is surprising for a hospitality-focused establishment. · Language Barrier & Menu: The menu is entirely in Indonesian, with no English translations or visual aids. For foreign visitors, ordering is a blind guess without significant help from the staff. · Service Lacks Guidance: Waiters were not proactive. They did not offer recommendations or explain dishes, which was especially needed given the language barrier. A more professional approach would involve guiding guests through the menu. Value & Cost: · Price Point: Minimum spend of IDR 600,000 (approx. $40 USD) per person to secure a table in the Bale Kambang area, expectations are naturally high. At this price, one anticipates warm food, adaptable service, and clearer communication, which were all lacking. Conclusion: Ambient offers a beautiful venue ideal for a family gathering or a scenic dinner. However, the experience is severely compromised by cold food, an inflexible kitchen, and unaccommodating service for international guests. It's worth visiting once for the ambiance, but manage your expectations regarding the meal itself. For the price paid, there are likely more reliable options in the area.

This venue is truly breathtaking—it’s so spacious, open, and feels like a masterpiece in itself. The team at this restaurant are wonderfully kind and welcoming, and the food is absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to come back and explore more of the menu! They offer both traditional and modern seating, giving you the best of both worlds. I’d recommend booking ahead if you’d like a particular spot. Overall, it’s the perfect place to share a special moment with someone you care about. ❤️✨

Bale Udang is a nice seafood restaurant with a unique gazebo-style setting over water, making it great for families and group dining. The atmosphere is relaxing and scenic, and the food quality and service are good. The satay and chicken taste delicious. Overall, it’s a good choice if you value ambience and experience as much as the food. Will come again to try other dishes

Had such a lovely experience at Bale Udang Mang Engking. The food was fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented especially the chicken, which were perfectly cooked and so delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing and made the whole meal even more enjoyable. A special thank you to Yusuf who looked after us so well. He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. His service really made our visit even better. Highly recommend this place for both the food and the service!

Disappointed with the food quality and freshness! Within 2 minutes of placing our order, the fried fish, fried shrimp, and all vegetables arrived at our table. All at room temperature! Not a lot of flavor. Seafood was fried hours before serving. Not fresh! 20 minutes later they served us the hot and fresh Gurame Menari fish. When we go to a seafood restaurant that charges these prices, we expect fresh and hot food. This place didn’t do that unfortunately! On a positive note, the restaurant is beautiful and service was good.
