33 Deserted Places Around the World

"Eerie and overrun with lush greenery, this abandoned theme park in Bali is an urban explorer’s dream. Colorful graffiti adorns the walls of its crumbling buildings. Most of the park has succumbed to nature’s mercy and is slowly being swallowed by the jungle. It isn’t known for certain as to why this grand theme park was deserted by the owners before it ever even opened. Some reports say the owners abandoned ship after fearing it would become unprofitable following the 2002 Bali terrorist attacks. Others say lightning struck its laser machines, which were meant to illuminate the night sky as part of the park’s star attraction. Never fated to fill its grounds with throngs of tourists, it has now become a home for graffiti artists and budding photographers. Wander among the pathways that meander through the eight-hectare site (beware of the broken glass), and you’ll find an olympic-sized swimming pool, a cinema, a wedding chapel, and many restaurants, all reclaimed by nature. It’s a haunting experience. Vines and weeds twist sinisterly around the decrepit structures, while miniature jungles overtake others. Bats, enormous spiders, and a host of other insects hide in the dark corners of the dust-coated buildings. Keep an eye out for the empty crocodile pit—its former residents were left to roam the park after it was abandoned and supposedly lurk just out of sight. Rumors abound that these reptilian residents have been know to snack on humans." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Even if you - unlike us - don't have a fascination with abandoned structures and lost places, this ghost town is worth a visit. We noticed some land surveying and debris clearing activities when we walked through, so it's possible that the place will be redeveloped. Better visit soon, therefore 👍

It was my second time visiting Bali Festival Park to attend JIA’s curated yearly exhibition. As everyone knows, this used to be an abandoned place, which they have now re-created, re-decorated, and re-laid out with lots of installations, galleries showcasing works from many local artists, international furniture and interior designers, as well as several architectural firms. I would say it was magical to see how it looked before and how they adapted and embraced the existing building in such a beautiful way! Definitely recommend you visit their exhibition next year!

A must visit for those who like to explore and admire art. The abandoned theme park is huge with loads of beautiful art everywhere you look. Also a great place to take photos! Expected a quiet and otherwise undisturbed walk with just my partner and I but there is currently some construction being done at the centre that definitely killed the atmosphere. Please bring shoes and prepare for loads of mosquitoes. For inside the abandoned buildings keep in mind there are bats and dogs as well. Entrance fee is 20k per person with a 2-5k parking fee as well.

The Jia Curated exhibition going on there right now is one of the best installations I have seen . The way the exhibitors blend in the abundant space with street tags around is amazing . Not to miss this exhibition if you are in bali .

this park surely must have been very grand in its heyday but now its like a ghost town that has a uniqueness of its own. it’s like walking around in a video game where there is huge buildings filled with graffiti, covered with plants and vines everywhere. it really is straight out of a post apocalyptic comic book or tv show. absolutely wonderful and a must visit for people who like urban exploration and abandoned sites !! there’s a 20k IDR fee to enter but it’s worth the small price. ps. there’s certainly a number of ghosts and spirits that roam around in this park, but as long as you’re respectful of their place and look around peacefully, i’m sure they don’t mind lol!

Well worth a visit if you are someone that loves exploring abandoned places and incredible art and a photographer's playground. There is a small 20,000 RP entry price but you are then left to your own. I spent a few hours here but could easily have spent all day there. It can get very very hot and humid so be sure to take plenty of water, sunscreen and mozzie spray. The mozzie's were lethal! It can be hard to get transport back unless you have paid internet to order a grab, so we just paid a driver to take us, wait for a few hours and take us back. Highly recommend and off the beaten path.

I was in awe of the venue which hosted JIA Curated mid August 2025. It was just the perfect place: beautiful grafitti on the walls, open spaces and a suprise: an underground amphitheatre! It's not a glitzy type place for bling bling parties, but the perfect place for artistic events.
