Ballard Pizza Co. - Review - Ballard - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Ballard Pizza Company is essentially Bar Cotto’s answer to a slice joint, which means it’s a) awesome, and b) one of the closest things to New York pizza you’re going to get west of the Mississippi. Grab a spot at a communal table under the string lights with some friends for a casual slice and salad, or order a pie to-go and take it home. Be sure to check out the daily-rotating slices, which are typically equal parts odd and delicious, like “salumi bits,” which involves jalapenos and tiny specks of crispy salami. Add a draught cider or glass of wine and Friday night is saved." - Aimee Rizzo

Two Doors Down Burgers in Seattle’s Capitol Hill Will Close on Halloween - Eater Seattle

"James Beard-recognized chef and prolific restaurateur Ethan Stowell is closing Ballard Pizza Company, and merging it with a Frelard location that will reopen at 5205 Ballard Av.e NW. A manager tells MyBallard that the decision came because the lease on the Frelard location was up and the current Ballard location needed structural repairs, so combining the two made the most sense. It’s expected to open in November." - Courtney E. Smith

The Private Dining Directory

"Capacity: 30 Ballard Pizza Company makes good New York-style pies. The back room is where the private parties go—and it looks like the entertainment room of someone’s well-designed basement. It’s perfect for eating pizza and watching something on the TV you also get access to." - aimee rizzo

Where To Eat Along The Burke-Gilman Trail

"If you started on the Kenmore end of the trail, there’s really no better incentive to pedal harder than knowing your friends are waiting for you at a picnic table loaded with charcuterie, chopped salads, and giant pizzas at Ballard Pizza Company. Do they serve the best pies in the city? No, but we're fans of their carbonara with speck and runny eggs, and the place works just as well for a big group as it does for solo slices and an IPA." - aimee rizzo

Solid New York-style slice. The crust is near perfect here and they have a lot of creative flavor combos in addition to more traditional toppings.

I've been ordering from Ballard pizza for several years, but recently their quality has just taken a dive. They seem to have changed their cheese blend to something closely resembling and Alfredo sauce rather than the usual expectation for a mozeralla blend. It's just a slimy mess. I can't imagine ordering from here again, which is a shame since they used to have one of the better options for feeding a group.

Google
They were kind enough to accommodate a large party with short notice. Customer service was GREAT! I wish we got the gentlemen’s name, he was taller, blonde hair lunchtime shift 06/01. He was so cool and made the vibe so chill and fun. Pizza was amazing and they have in house made ginger beer that was worth the trip alone. Such. good time and good food. 10/10 recommend Thank you!!

Google
Beware GF orderers! The medium GF pizza is MUCH smaller than the regular medium pizza. And you have to pay an additional $4 for the GF crust. This size disparity isn’t communicated on the menu or online ordering. Shouldn’t have to pay extra for a very small and already expensive pizza. Very disappointed and will be going elsewhere in the future.

Got the pizza by the slice! It’s $6 which I think is fair considering how huge the slices were and it was filled with toppings and tasted amazing!

It was a cool place to chill & eat. We had the daily special, which are slices of pizza for $6. My husband had the pepperoni, and my daughter & I had the asparagus & prosciutto with pesto...delicious!

We went for a kids pizza making class. The server who helped the kids was super kind and patient. We could also order food and drinks while the kids made pizzas. The pizza and drinks were great and we’ll definitely be back.

Absolutely stellar pizza and equally amazing environment and even better staff. Josh and his team provided an exceptional experience. As someone who eats pizza regularly this is far and away the best I’ve had in ages (certainly in Seattle), every bite was delectable. Highly recommend the Hawaiian with jalapeños. It had an olive oil base and a perfect twist to the generic slice (not Canadian bacon, but a tastier Italian spin). Crust was proper thickness, the ingredients ideally spread, and all of it done to perfection. Full heartedly, 100% recommend, you won’t be disappointed, enjoy 🤙

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday afternoon, during their weekly trivia night. There's street parking all around but it wasn't that easy to find an open space, but that is standard for Ballard. The space is quite nice, with both bar and table seating. The host asked me if I was ok with the bar versus a table, and I went to sit at the bar. I ordered a cocktail and a slice of pizza, both which came out very quickly. The cocktail was pretty good, and I enjoyed the pizza overall! During this time, trivia got started. The bartender gave me my bill, I let him know I'd be playing for a while, and he said it was fine and I could get to the bill when I was ready. I ended up ordering a second slice of pizza. Overall pleasant night and decent food!

Yelp
Good pizza spot in Ballard. The crust was super good. We really enjoyed the salad, olives (appetizer), and Caesar salad! Good place to chat with friends. Options for drinks. They also have a bathroom.

Yelp
Came in for the wing special on Wednesday. 0cent wings are hard to complain about. The staff was very friendly and the service was good. The rester aunt was pretty dead at one point we were the only one in there and it was only about 745.

Yelp
Pretty meh pizza. I expected so much more from Ethan Stowell. The other pizza company from a local clean chef is way better. The pizza sauce is sour and crust is pretty ordinary. Way overpriced for the taste and quality. I should have read the reviews before going there.

Yelp
Honestly so disappointed with this place. Was excited to learn they have gluten free pizza but man was I to be let down. This gluten free pizza is a 10" pizza that wasn't even remotely warm. Not to mention crust was somehow hard and chewy at the same time? I stood outside and called to order as I had my dog with me, the guy who took my order was rude and seemed to be annoyed at my questions. I also paid over $35 for a pizza that was honestly a waste of time and effort for everyone. Do yourself a favor, don't come here if you're gluten free.

Yelp
Death Spiral Complete We used to love this place. When we moved to Seattle in 2016, we ate here all the time. We loved it, our kids loved it, the food was great, the service was great - it was a fun night out for all. We started going to Frelard because it was a little closer to our house, and that place was great too - with some fun outdoor seating. This was our go-to option for a pizza night out, or ordering delivery for years. The the pandemic hit. This place suffered the same as every other restaurant in the country. The problem is that they never really recovered. The quality went way down and staff turnover was pretty high. We tried for *years* to give them a chance to recover. When our delivery pizza was bad, we made excuses for them and said it must have been a busy Friday night, or that we should have gone there in person. Going in person didn't help - it was just as bad. We kept going anyway hoping they would recover. Our final visit to Frelard was so bad we left 2 pizzas to be thrown away, and Frelard shut down not long after that. Ballard Pizza Company recently moved to a new location, and we thought it was time to give the another chance. Surely they would put some effort in to make the food good a new location. Nope. It was awful. The cheese was bad, the sauce was bland, and the crust was simultaneously burnt and soggy. How is that even possible? I was really at a loss trying to understand how the pizza had become so bad. Ethan Stowell is an experienced restauranteur who knows how to run a restaurant that makes good food. What has gone wrong here? Then I read a McSweeny's piece about your local mediocre pizzeria, and it explained a lot. Go search for that article and read it. Also, take a look around at the space. It has a horrible sports bar vibe with the expected clientele. I guess if you are there to get drunk you can choke down the pizza. After this last visit, half of our family swore we would never eat there again. Someone from the other half decided to order from them anyway. They were warned: "We can't stop you if you want to ruin your dinner, but we are eating something else." The order arrived and there were errors - no shocker. And it was as bad as expected. There was one redeeming quality to the order - it came with pizza box and big paper bag that we could use for our compost.

Yelp
I was enjoying the pizza until I bit into a slice and found a gold metal wire that was in my slice! Beware of this place!

Yelp
Loved the veggie pizza! The crust, mix of veggies and epic size made it memorable... this coming from a Chicago pizza person. So good. We loved the wine too. I even bought a bottle to take home. Wish I'd taken a pic of the pizza.

Christine S.

Yelp
We love your pizza and your business ! We had some friends over and bought your pizza for them and now your pizza is their favorite as well . I highly recommend this pizza to everyone ! So delicious :)

Yelp
Such a cool little spot! I've been to BPC before but this one is on another level. Great new spot. Super friendly bartender, Josh! He was great. Pizza is amazing and the wings are so crave-able! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Good pizza in Seattle often entails enduring Herculean trials just to find out that they've sold out or won't seat you (eg, "we're open from 2:37 pm - 4:31 pm on days that begin with the letter "T" and the line starts forming at 3:00 am"). Ballard Pizza Co is a nice counterpoint to the madness. It offers a comfortable space to relax with drinks and decent, but not phenomenal pizza. Regarding the pizza itself: I'm nitpicking, but I wasn't crazy about the cornmeal on the crust and I thought the slices needed a bit more structure. That being said, the toppings and flavors were on point. I'd go to Ballard Pizza Co over Delancey any day (much more relaxing), but don't think the pies are as good as Dantini.
