Balz und Balz - Café und feine Kost

One of the best cafes in Hamburg, & one of the best cups of coffee in the world guaranteed. The barrister is top quality & the cakes are delicious 💖 The only downfall is that Balz is not open more often! ☕️

Nice café, tasty choices of breakfast and friendly service. The place is small but cozy, chill and relaxed atmosphere. They have options of sweets stuff to eat too.

Loved this small cafe! Delicious coffee, food and super friendly staff - limited seats outside at the moment but perfect when the sun is shining as it was when I visited. Photo of my quark with granola w/pistachios, apricot compote and nectarines doesn’t do it justice - it was so good! The open faced sandwiches looked fantastic and the fresh baked cinnamon rolls smelled amazing. Can’t wait to go back!

Really nice coffee shop with fresh pastries and lunch menus. Here a November beetroot soup, served with a tasty piece of fresh bread! & the chocolate cake is really good! Also, very friendly staff!

Good light roasted coffee. The espresso based drinks are all great. I wasn't too fond of their filter. If you look for cakes and brunch that is also the right place to go to.

This place is so lovely and the staff is really wonderful. They were clearly so busy and had people waiting but came to talk to us and explain the menu really carefully and warmly. Our food and drinks were really special and prepared with heart. The juice was especially lovely. The sandwich was really yum and we can’t wait to try more :)

Run by a delightful brother-and-sister duo, this little café really is something different. The latte I had here is absolutely amazing, the best I've had in Hamburg (and I've tried a good amount). Oh and when they say cheese sandwich they mean cheese sandwich. It might be more cheese than sandwich, and it works out brilliantly.

The café is super cute and everything is designed with attention to detail. The atmosphere was very cozy and the staff very friendly. We ordered Bio Rührei which was delicious and also fairly inexpensive! Can highly recommend! They forgot our order once and the bill took quite a while but other than that it was great! :)

Fabulous food! Amazing ambience for Sunday brunch, that I will recommend warmly and visit again. Friendly owner and staff!

Wonderful new little cafe serving home cooked food and thoughtfully sourced coffee and teas. The owners are kind and passionate about the quality of the ingredients they use, which hasn't gone unnoticed by locals as they regularly sell out of what they have on offer. There are also items from their family farm for sale and free wifi :)

Coffee time should be a time to relax, reflect, chat or read (it helps if you're enjoying a good coffee too!) Balzundbalz doesn't seem to buy into. Common sense seems in short supply here! Today's visit was my worst experience in a cafe. Ever. I ordered from a nice gentleman and told him we were outside (regretfully I also left a 20% tip!) Then we ordered a water for our son. However, just as our drinks were being prepared we were told by a member of staff that we had to move the the pushchair (although our son was still in it, not wanting to be held!) onto a grass verge across from the footpath and the cycle path! The reason being...it was an obstruction. There was enough space on the footpath for a pedestrian or push chair to pass and also the cycle lane was not obstructed. As another customer that left shortly afterwards said: "I don't see what the problem is! There's plenty of room!" Furthermore, the design agency next door were sat outside on benches and tables having lunch - this was in a narrow part of the street and would cause more of an obstruction to pedestrians. A little common sense could go a long way - if we were politely seated elsewhere (we had taken up position well in advance to buying out drinks funnily enough!), dealt with in a courteous manner, or even apologized to over the rude brashness of the staff member I wouldn't take issue. If you would like your coffee served with a slice of over zealous officiousness then this is a perfect cafe! Fine, you don't want to lose your right to outdoor seating, it's easy to quote: "we need to keep a distance of 1,5m from a cycle lane", rather than deal with improving the customer experience. On the other hand, if you would like a coffee, peace, tranquility and good service - move along. There are many parents and babies in Eppendorf and this cafe is certainly not baby friendly (it's not friendly full-stop!) so I'd strongly advise heading to one of the other many cafes nearby. With regards the coffee...the cappuccino was all milk and no coffee and the long black was "meh" at best. It's a shame that the service and coffee aren't what you come to expect; the location is fantastic.
