"The Bamboo Train of Battambang One of the top attractions just outside of sleepy Battambang is the bamboo norry train. These simple platforms outfitted with small motors were originally used to ferry people and goods between the distant villages. Today, the system is largely a tourist attraction, and a recommended one. Riding from one village to another will take about an hour. The trainsoperateon just one set of tracks, and when two trains meet going opposite directions, the drivers hop off, move one of the platforms and its wheels to the side of the track, so that the other may pass."

"A beloved, quirky tourist attraction made up of improvised open-air rail vehicles that give visitors a hands-on, charmingly local way to travel short stretches of track and soak in rural scenery." - Jonathan Evans
Love this little ride. The short stop before coming back was the best. We met up with a lovely lady selling shirts, cold coldrinks and beer all of it was cheaper than when you started. We stayed longer there cause her English is really good. Plus we got to see a train pass which was so cool since not seeing one for a very long time.

Such a cool experience riding the bamboo train! I thought it would be slow, but it’s actually not at all and it’s completely safe. The 30-minute ride is so much fun! It costs $2.50 for Khmer and $5 for foreigners, or you can get a private bamboo train for just $10. Don’t forget to leave a tip, they always appreciated. Definitely don’t miss this place!

Come for a unique ride on an improvised platform on the rails. A simple engine and brakes operated by a lovely lady with a bamboo stick serve as a lightweight rail vehicle.
We just showed up at the station, paid $5 (plus tips) per person and the lady drove us around in both directions, overall for maybe 45 minutes.
It's quirky and fun, sometimes kids jumped on and stayed for a while. We arrived at 16:30 and I find that was a great time to avoid the heat of the day.

Such a fun activity in Battambang - take a ride on the bamboo trains. It lasts around 30 mins and you get to see some lovely views across rice fields and local villages.
It costs $5 per person to ride - they do encourage you tip the driver at the end so be prepared for this as some groups were caught off guard with this.
Bring a hat / sunnies / sun cream - it is out in the open and no shade. Lots of fun though and worth doing when visiting Battambang

Really fun ride to do in Battambang!
You’re seated on pillows on this small platform and can watch the Cambodian landscape go by. I read some said it went quite fast but I didn’t really feel that way, it’s very stable, you’re definitely not at any risk to fall off.
Apparently there’s also a new bamboo train. It seems the entrance fee there is higher and it’s not as enjoyable, from what our tour guide told us.
Recommend trying this one here if you’re in Battambang!

The Bamboo Train is definitely a novelty visit. Expected something a little more than seeing the back of properties though.
Still made a nice break from travelling from sire to site.
Very clever use of what they have

The only passenger train in Cambodia - this is a fun way to travel on a little flat bed wagon with a diesel motor driving the wheels. It flies along the track and when you get to the stopping place and need to turn round, or if you need to pass another wagon, then the drivers lift the whole contraption off the track and put it back together in a couple of minutes. Weird and wonderful!

Such a fun way to see Cambodia. We came in late September, nearing the end of rainy season, so it was especially green and beautiful!! Don’t forget to wear sunscreen or bring a hat ☀️🌾🛤️🇰🇭
