Cao Bang left me genuinely amazed from the moment I arrived. Tucked away in Vietnam’s far north, this land feels untouched, pure, and breathtakingly beautiful. The journey itself was already a delight – winding mountain roads, fresh cool air, and endless views of rolling hills fading into the horizon. But nothing prepared me for the sight of Ban Gioc Waterfall. Standing before it, I was overwhelmed by its sheer size and power. The water cascaded down in layers, white and foamy, into a jade-green pool, surrounded by lush greenery. It was like stepping into a scene from a dream. Everywhere in Cao Bang seemed to hold its own magic. The Quay Son River flowed calmly through golden rice fields, reflecting the towering limestone mountains like a giant natural mirror. Villages dotted along the way felt peaceful and welcoming, with traditional stilt houses and warm smiles from the locals. The air was crisp and clean, carrying the scent of fresh earth and blooming flowers. What surprised me most was how raw and untouched everything felt. There were no crowds, no rush – just nature in its purest form. I spent hours simply sitting by the river, watching the sunlight dance on the water, feeling a deep sense of peace I rarely find elsewhere. Leaving Cao Bang, I couldn’t help but feel grateful to have witnessed such beauty. It’s the kind of place that stays with you, not just in photographs, but in your heart – a reminder that some of the world’s most stunning treasures are found where few have yet to wander.

🌟 Rating: 5/5 📍 Ban Gioc Waterfall – A Breathtaking Masterpiece of Nature Ban Gioc is one of the most stunning waterfalls in Southeast Asia, and witnessing it in person feels like stepping into a dream. The cascading water stretches wide across multiple levels, tumbling down from the cliffs into the emerald river below, all framed by majestic limestone mountains and lush green fields. ✨ Highlights: Magnificent natural scenery that looks like a real-life painting. Fresh, cool air – a peaceful escape from the city. Countless photo spots, especially beautiful during sunrise or sunset. You can take a bamboo raft ride close to the base of the falls – an unforgettable experience! If you're exploring Northern Vietnam, Ban Gioc Waterfall is a must-see for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts alike.

The view of Bản Giốc Waterfall, nestled along the border between Vietnam and China is simply breathtaking. This natural wonder is one of the most majestic and scenic spots in Northern Vietnam. The cascading waters, surrounded by lush emerald green rice fields, create a serene and charming atmosphere. The waterfall itself is massive and powerful, yet incredibly peaceful to watch. The mist rising from the falls adds a magical feel. Whether viewed from the river below on a bamboo raft or from one of the nearby viewpoints, the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. However, the park is relatively under developed compared to other tourist destinations, which actually adds to its charm. It feels authentic, quiet, and not overly commercialized. The locals are warm and welcoming, and there's a sense of calm that stays with you long after you've left. Getting there however is a bit challenging, the road journey from Hanoi Airport to the waterfall is around 11 hours if you add in stopovers for meals and toilet breaks, but the stunning landscapes along the way make it worthwhile. It will be a good idea to find a nearby accommodation to rest for the night to rest and head for the waterfall the next day. Highly recommended for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone looking to experience the raw beauty of Vietnam. I can assure you it is all worth the effort

This place is absolutely stunning—the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve seen in Vietnam. The sheer amount of water flowing over the multi-tiered falls is incredible, and the setting feels like something out of a postcard. I took a bamboo raft ride right up close to the base, which gave a whole new perspective of its size and power. What really amazed me was how many separate falls are in one spot—dozens of them spilling down through lush greenery. It’s surreal seeing the Vietnam–China border marked by such a natural wonder. From where I stood and snapped my photos, the views were unforgettable. Water was cascading over moss-covered rocks, mist rising up into the air, and boats drifting towards the falls. The water below was a clean greenish-blue, and the surrounding limestone peaks just added to the drama. There were spots where the water pooled perfectly still before continuing downstream. The walkways and bridges gave access to all the best viewpoints without spoiling the natural vibe. If you’re anywhere in northern Vietnam—especially around Cao Bằng—this place should be at the top of your list. Note you cannot use drones here due to proximity to the Chinese border.

One of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever visited!” Ban Gioc Waterfall is an absolute gem and a must-visit if you’re in northern Vietnam. The power and beauty of the cascading water surrounded by lush green mountains is something you have to see to believe. I took a bamboo raft ride close to the waterfall — the view was spectacular, and the mist on my face made the experience even more magical. Despite being a bit far from Hanoi, the peaceful scenery and local charm make it totally worth the journey. A perfect spot for photography, nature lovers, or anyone looking to experience Vietnam’s raw natural beauty. Highly recommended!

Show up after 4 because that's when the sun hits. It was magnificent, we rented the boat and it took us right there to get splashed. Overall experience takes maybe 50 minutes but honestly, one of the nicest spots I have seen in VN after. Stop a few hundred meters before to get your tickets and then park your bike right in front.

Dano and I have just finished a tour of Cao Bang. The most favorite place and also the symbol of Cao Bang province is Ban Gioc waterfall. 82km northeast of Cao Bang city. The waterfall is between the border of Vietnam and China. Note that Flycam is not allowed. This is the largest and most majestic waterfall in Asia. It was wonderful when I was there! Beautiful scenery, few flowers. The beauty is concentrated in a series of many consecutive waterfalls. The most favorite experience took a boat to enjoy the majestic and beautiful waterfall. The entrance ticket is 40,000 VND/pax, the ticket to take a boat ride on the lake in front of the big waterfall is 50,000 VND/pax. I have been to many places and this is the most reasonable price for waterfalls. However, about 2 km from the entrance to the waterfall, some people will offer electric car service. But it is so close, you do not need an electric car. You can drive in 2 km more and buy a ticket to the gate like me. The walking distance is flat, only about 1 km, it feels better than taking a tram. If you can ride a motorbike, you can rent a motorbike in Cao Bang to go to Ban Gioc. Cao Bang terrain is surrounded by many mountains but the road is flat and has a gentle slope. Motorbike rental price is from 200,000 - 550,000 VND/day, depending on the type of motorbike. You can also book a tour guide to take you and guide you. There are some foods, drinks, clothes, accessories for sale there... I suggest you enjoy Trung Khanh chestnuts. About 3km from Ban Gioc waterfall is Ngung Ngao cave. The cave is very beautiful and an interesting place to visit. #handinhandadventure Le&Dano

amazing scenery, amazing nature. the river separates the vietnam and china borders. it was a little slippery and muddy because of the rainy (and typhoon) season in vietnam so be careful when walking. it wasn't overly touristy when i visited the waterfalls. the entrance fee cost 40k VND and an additional 50k VND would get you a raft ride towards the waterfalls and back. just FYI: our boat didn't drop us off at the chinese side and im not sure whether that'd have required a different ticket.
