This hostel is great especially as I was staying in Brisbane for a while. The hostel is very relaxed. The beds are very comfortable and the air conditioning is great. The kitchen is a slightly small so isn’t great during busy times. I really enjoyed the relaxed vibes and would recommend. All the people here are very friendly and nice. Ben and Summer are both super friendly and helpful.

If you're traveling on a tight budget, want a central location, and don’t mind some compromises, Banana Backpackers is a solid pick. It's functional, social, and includes the essentials—perfect for meeting others and exploring Brisbane without spending much. But if cleanliness and upgraded facilities are priorities, you might want to spend a bit more.

Staff was super friendly. They made everyone feel at home and had great recommendations around the city. I really appreciated how helpful Summer and Julia were. I would recommend installing more plug outlets in the rooms, it could be a bit challenging charging devices if they were all being used but luckily there were common areas to charge as well. It was a convenient spot as well to watch a rugby game close by to the stadium.

This is my second stay in Banana Backpackers now. It has a chilled friendly vibe. The staff are friendly and welcoming, any issues they’re happy to help. The set up of the place really makes it easy to socialise and to meet new people. It’s an affordable yet clean hostel, I felt I could enjoy a shower and there were no funny smells (which I have experienced in previous hostels). I like that they give you your own cutlery, plate, bowl and cup. The location is right next to the Barracks shopping centre, where there’s a Coles, the train station is a 5 minute walk and the city centre is only a 10-15 min walk, there’s also bus stops in the area. It’s an ideal location.

Great place to stay in Brisbane! The staff are all absolutely lovely and genuinely want to make your stay as good as it can be! The beds are comfy (best than most hostels). The place is clean. Only down side is the small kitchen, you might need to wait a bit during the dinner rush.

Price is very good but comes at a cost. The place just isn't clean. Even if it is a good price to stay at I would like to think it would still be clean. I have stayed at many hostels in the past for a similar price with similar facilities but they have mostly been clean, but this one unfortunately doesn't fall under the same bracket. Kitchen and toilet facilties were regularly dirty during our stay and our private dorm wasn't anything great either. We wiped the window side with tissue and it was covered in dirt. It is also very noisy as all the rooms are very close to reception and the entrance to the hostel. Wifi is also offered to guests but it is pretty much non existent. On a positive note the staff are very friendly and helpful.

Have to start this out by saying management and front desk handled our situation really well, and they were polite, which is why I ranked service at 5 stars. But this place is really really dirty. We checked in to a dirty room with hair all over the place, bugs, and trash from the last guest still there. Bathrooms are filthy, and we didn’t even dare venture into the kitchen area. We ended up leaving in the middle of our stay and checking in to another hostel it was that bad. The next day the manager was very receptive to our concerns and we were refunded for our stay for which we are grateful, and like I said, service was fine. They claimed that cleaners had just ‘’missed our room” by mistake, but we were the last people to check in for the whole day, and by the volume of trash on the floor and under the beds I don’t think it has been cleaned in a long time. Lots of long stayers. They also have a sign offering free drink and snack for reviews, which may be skewing the ratings. Just be wary.

Pros: Great location, nearby a Coles and bus stop. Lovely staff, Summer was really welcoming and made the check-in easy and warm. Beds and bedding were really comfy. Cons: The kitchen is tiny for the amount of people staying, chaos during meal times. The fridge smelled really bad, and the bathrooms pretty much always dirty. I only saw them cleaned twice in a whole week. By midday, kitchen and eating areas were nasty. I know it’s hard to keep things clean when people don’t tidy up after themselves, but it would really help if there were separate cloths for cleaning and for drying dishes.

Yelp
friendly staff, clean room (double)! would come again! only the location isn't the best of you have a little more luggage and wanna walk there. it's quite close to the bus station, no doubt, but you have to walk uphill. (2007)
