Staying at this hostel was truly a heartwarming experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely welcome and cared for. The rooms were spotless, the atmosphere cozy and inviting, and everything ran so smoothly. It was particularly nice to meet the couple who own the hostel – they are genuinely kind, warm and full of heart. You can feel the love they put into making this place so special.

Located very close to the main street. Walking distance but the bus stop is also right outside of the door. Feels clean and taken well care of. Everyone has their own kitchen bowls, plates and utensils, which is amazing. Great hostel

Great hostel! Nice hostel with good kitchen and TV-room. Supermarket and busstops nearby to get to the CBD. Very friendly staff. Good value for money place to stay!

I stayed at Banana Backpackers for almost two months, which was more than enough time to see how things really work there. It’s the cheapest hostel in Brisbane… and that is definitely not a coincidence. Cleanliness: basically non-existent. There’s supposed to be “daily cleaning” in the rooms. In reality, it’s a quick vacuum swipe in front of the door that lasts about 15 seconds. Impressive efficiency 😁. Of course, cockroaches are part of the experience — you’ll even find them in your belongings. Kitchen: tiny and unusable half the time. Add to that frequent power cuts, sometimes while you’re showering or running laundry. Naturally, the fridges stop too, and I had to throw away my food three times because of this. Outdoor area: basically a dump. No bins, no proper facilities. Just piles of empty bottles, cigarette butts and trash everywhere. A lovely scene if you enjoy living in a rubbish tip. Management: a masterpiece. I was kicked out one day before my booking ended because they gave my bed to someone else — and, of course, refused to refund me. Overall, it’s an amazing hostel if you enjoy living like you’re on the streets and being treated like an animal, all for a few hundred dollars a week. An unforgettable experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Banana Backpackers. To begin with, the ladies on the desk were lovely. It was always pleasant seeing and interacting with them. The rooms were reasonably sized with lockers. You have to make your own bed, which is a little annoying. There was air con but it didn’t seem to con the air, so it was difficult to fall asleep at night in the heat. Most of the occupants are long term stayers, and it seems like they do what they please. Some were smoking weed in the movie room in the middle of the day. The movie room is open at all times and for all volumes, so was fairly noisy during the early hours. It was also filthy, with bugs and dirt. It could be a lot nicer if the cleaners spent some time in there. Or anywhere. The man responsible for cleaning the kitchen did a great job, but the room cleaners are in and out before the door has a chance to close. There are a lot of laundry machines and bathrooms. The door key takes some getting used to but it is ultimately fine. The location is decent. Reception closes but they sort you out for a late check in if required. I’d stay again, but probably only in passing.

Good hostel to spend your first days after arriving in Brisbane. The shared room had air conditioning, which is really appreciated with the hot weather. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and it’s close to everything you need in the city.

very friendly and helpful staff! The place is also really cute and feels like such a great place for backpackers to explore Brisbane from! I especially appreciate that the rooms have air-conditioning :)) I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family who want to come and explore Brisbane too!

Yelp
friendly staff, clean room (double)! would come again! only the location isn't the best of you have a little more luggage and wanna walk there. it's quite close to the bus station, no doubt, but you have to walk uphill. (2007)
