How to Get Around Central America on a Budget in 2025

"For short hops I use colectivos — cheap, short-distance minivans that are often very crowded; you’ll usually find them at bus terminals, so I check with drivers to confirm where they’re going before hopping on." - Matthew Kepnes

Google
4.5 I recently rented a 15-passenger Ford Transit van from Bandago for a family trip to Destin, Florida. I was about 20 minutes late picking up the vehicle due to traffic in Nashville, but was warmly greeted by a young lady who had been working hard outside in the heat cleaning other vehicles. Even so, she was kind, professional, and quick to help. She did a thorough inspection, gave me all the information I needed, and made sure I was able to leave promptly. Her customer service truly stood out. The van drove perfectly — smooth, spacious, and reliable. It helped me give my family a touch of a luxury experience where everyone could just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. We all work hard, and having a vehicle that could comfortably fit us all without stress made a huge difference. Bandago is definitely on to something when it comes to offering passenger transit vans like this — it really elevated the trip. The only issue I ran into was after returning the van. I accidentally left my personal cell phone holder behind. I contacted someone the following Monday and was told it could be left outside for me to pick up. Unfortunately, after driving back out there, the item wasn’t there, and I haven’t received a response to my follow-up texts. While this won’t stop me from renting from them again, better communication would definitely improve the overall experience — especially when it comes to retrieving lost items. Overall, Bandago delivered a great rental experience, and I’ll definitely prioritize them for future family trips.

Google
We loved using Bandago for our family vacation van rental. We really like that they actually hold a van for the customer's rental, instead of playing it by ear like Hertz or Enterprise does. Bandago's van was clean and in good shape. The mileage limits were very high, so we also enjoyed that aspect. We will definitely use Bandago for our next extended family outing.

Bandago is our go-to when renting large vans in Nashville. Great staff and excellent customer service. Their vans are clean, run great, and well-maintained.

3rd year in row we've used Bandago. Great people, Awesome vans. Love talking to the customer service people. They seem like surfers from California. So calm and easy going.

Been renting vans for 5 years now from Bandago and love them! Never any issues, reasonable prices, and friendly service.

The van was great. New and clean, can’t ask for more. Only thing I would change is perhaps having more than just one person checking in customers.

Google
Super easy to reserve and very friendly staff! Pro-tip would be to reserve early, because passenger vans during the summer sell out fast! Very clean van with all the bells and whistles.

Yelp
Great van and staff! Highly recommended! I very, very rarely take the time to write reviews. Only when I feel that exceptional products/services truly deserve recognition. I was just on a trip with 9 people in our group. We flew in and had lots of luggage along with 2 powered wheelchairs & 2 rolling walkers. We had the 12 passenger Grand. It is one thing to find a comfortable vehicle for everyone to enjoy being together and another to find one that will also fit all of our luggage to and from the airport. The cargo are had plenty of room for all of our luggage and great for shopping trips. It was so nice not to have bags piled on top of us in the seats or worry about suitcases sliding off of a stack in the back. The seats were very comfortable and easy for everyone to get in and out - even sliding across the very back seat because it's so open where you get in. I truly feel 12 good sized adults would be comfortable enough for longer road trips. It was easy to drive and provided a very smooth drive. It is 11' tall so parking garages are out but the views from the big windows were spectacular. We ended up with Bandago after our reservation with another company fell through at the last minute. They saved the day and we were so glad we ended up with Bandago. I did call during our trip to ask about using the power outlets by the seats. I was able to talk to someone quickly. He looked up the exact vehicle we had & was very helpful. I am just so disappointed that they don't have more locations. We are so spoiled now that nothing else will compare. Great value, great staff, easiest pick up & drop off, perfect van! Really what more could you possibly ask for. -~x~- ACCESSIBILITY - I use a wheelchair. I was generally able to get into the back without assistance unless tired and maneuver into the driver seat from there if I couldn't get in directly. Everything was easy enough to reach & use while driving. Once I master the seat controls it was also easier to get into the drivers door. My mom uses the other chair. The staff was nice enough to provide a small step to make it easier for her to get in and out. I also have a sister that is blind. She found the van very comfortable both in the front and back. The side sliding door did take a bit of muscle but we always got it without issue. My son is 6'9" and was comfortable in front, could see clearly out the windshield, very comfortable in second seat and more comfortable than in most vehicles in the others.

Yelp
Bachelor Part in Nashville, rented the Ford Transit Passenger for 13 big guys and everything went off without a hitch. Room for the people and the luggage. Staff was super nice, pick up and drop off was easy. I had a question in the middle of the night and customer service called back in no time. There is a gas station close to their office which made the fill up before drop off super easy. Not only would I rent from Bandago again, I plan on convincing my family and the bachelor party group to do a encore week in Nashville and a van rental is the first on the list. lol Bandago, whole hearted thanks for the help in making our time in Nashville such a great success.

Yelp
This was my first time renting a van and most places were booked up. I hadn't heard of Bandago, so I was skeptical, but a friend said they were legit. I was fully expecting something to go wrong at some point--unexpected charges, lack of availability, rude staff, something? But the entire process was a breeze. I can't vouch for pricing as it compares to other services, but I felt the value was totally fair and I wouldn't hesitate to book here again. The best part was the woman who actually set me up with the van on the day of. I believe her name was Erin. She was incredibly friendly, patient, and knowledgeable but never made me feel patronized. The entire experience was very positive!

Yelp
I am very pleased with my experience with Bandago. I rented a 12 passenger Sprinter for a family vacation with only a couple days' notice. The guy in the rental office was very nice (as was everyone I spoke to) and when there was an unfortunate incident with a vagrant downtown who threw a rock and shattered the side window (right next to where my elderly mother was sitting!), he apologized multiple times, assuring me that Tennesseeans are actually really very nice people. Switching the van out for one that wasn't broken was quick & easy. Both vans were clean, comfortable and drove well. I totally recommend using Bandago.

Yelp
We just returned from Nashville last night. We rented a 15 passenger ford transit van from Bandago for our 4 day trip. Every part of the transaction was smooth. The phone staff was very pleasant and courteous all 3 times I called ( I shopped around for a long time!). The staff in the office was polite, attentive, and insightful on both pick up day and drop off day. And the vehicle itself was in impeccable condition. Price was pretty much in line with every other company I compared, but it was the service that ended up winning us over. The price quoted was exactly what I was charged. No hidden fees. I would definitely rent from this compan again.

Yelp
We recently used a Bandago van for a family vacation. The van prooved to be a huge asset in comfort for us. We all enjoyed the trip so much more with room we had to stretch out and enjoy the tv for movies and XBox. The staff was very helpful and professional. The van was clean and easier than I thought to drive. We will defiantly use their service again. Mt. Juliet Mom and Family.

Yelp
For two years in a row we have used Bandago for van rentals with our ministry. Once a year we go to Gatlinburg and need an extra van to help with transportation. Customer Service: Exceptional. From the time of booking until you return the vans they never cease to answer questions, help you out and make sure your rental was top notch. Check-out was quick (maybe 10 minutes) and check-in was even quicker. Vans: Last year we rented Sprinters and they were amazing! Plenty of room, cargo space and fuel efficient. This year we rented one 15 passenger and it was top notch as well. The van had 35k on it but it still seemed brand new and exceptionally well-maintained. Location: The Nashville location is perfect as it is close to I-440 so you can zip-in and zip-out. Facilities are ok but the location makes it amazing. A suggestion would be to make sure you have someone drop you off and pick you up as there is no place to leave your vehicle. That is not a criticism as they cannot assume liability for your vehicle. Just a suggestion. I have rented from other companies in and around Nashville and these guys are the best. I know when you read reviews you probably think "whatever, he is just exaggerating" but believe me that these guys are the best. Thanks! Robbie Mackenzie

Yelp
We have used Bandago twice, most recently this weekend for prom. Each time we have driven ~12-15 teenagers all over Nashville. The vans are top notch; although, we were even more spoiled this time because the van was literally brand new (16 miles on the odometer). The sound system, TV, and PS4 made for a great evening, and the vans are very easy to get around all the Nashville side streets and alleyways. The staff could not be nicer, the rental experience is so easy, and we will certainly rent again. PS - Each van has a name. Ours is Petrice, a 15 passenger Ford.

Yelp
The customer service was good; however, we recently took a trip in a Mercedes Benz Sprinter- Deluxe which had a few issues. 1st, the diesel engine fuel light came on after being on the road for one/two hours, then we had to get off the nearest exit to refill w/diesel exhaust fluid coolant late at night. 2nd, The dome light didn't work, the rear view mirror was missing and the customer service rep. stated that it didn't come w/one, but the advertisement on Bandago showed one in vehicle. Lastly, the vehicle wasn't clean. It was very inconvenient for a customer to stop frequently to service a vehicle that should have been serviced prior to pick-up. Also, it was stressful for only women in a vehicle at night not knowing if we would make it to our destination. Again, the staff was courteous & professional, but the van had a few issues.

Yelp
Great Experience!! Fantastic customer service, friendly staff and nice vans. I rented a 15-passenger Chevrolet van after Budget cancelled on me one week before our trip. Reserving was easy and the price was comparable to other rentals. The van was almost new!! It was comfortable for our group of 11 55+ year olds. I would recommend and use Bandago again for sure!

Yelp
We found Bandago via an online search for 15 passenger vans in Nashville. And we were lucky that we did! We brought a team of rowers from the Seattle area to compete in the Youth National Championships in Oak Ridge, TN. Traveling with a pack of teenagers and various driving adults makes rental vans challenging. But not when we found Bandago! Not only did they allow us to have 4 drivers with no extra fees (National rental companies were at least $65 per driver), but the overall cost was at least a third less than the other companies we checked with. And we ended up with WAY MORE for our money. The kids loved playing with the PS2, many iPods were hooked up to the sound system and the van rode (and drove) comfortably and easily. Checking in and out was thorough, friendly and easy. The staff in Nashville made us feel like we were a part of the Bandago family - and that we would be very well taken care of if something was to happen during our trip. We didn't have a single issue! What nice, helpful, fun people - very different from any other van rental experience to date. We found ourselves wishing we could find Bandago in more cities!

Yelp
I was pleased with Bandago from staffing and pricing standpoint. Everyone I spoke with was very kind and polite. I was very disappointed in the 15-passenger van we rented. We took a group of cyclists from Nashville to Florida for a charity bike ride and had a few issues. We had a dead battery along the way, the front row seat kept shifting because it wasn't bolted properly, and we had no auxiliary radio. We called the 1-800 for help, but no one returned our call. The biggest issue was the rear door didn't lock, but we didn't realize it until halfway through the trip. We'd been locking expensive bikes in the van, and we're lucky nothing happened to them. The price was great, and the staff in Nashville was very courteous, but I don't know that I'll use Bandago again or at least not without doing a more thorough walk-through and testing of the van. I feel like all of these issues could've been tested in advance of the trip.

Yelp
Our family of 7 traveled for 14 days in a Bandago van and she never missed a beat. The company was very professional. We had a service question and they responded almost immediately. The Nashville staff was extremely helpful and nice. We had to purchase a headlight and we were reimbursed quickly. We will definitely recommend to others as well as use again if needed.
