We stayed at B&B Torre di Badia for five nights and four days in early August. We loved both the place and the location. In fact, the B&B is ideally located between Siena and Florence, two of the most beautiful towns in Italy; however, these are not the only sites of interest nearby since the surroundings are rich in beautifully preserved Medieval villages and small towns such as Volterra, San Gimignano, and Colle Val d'Elsa. Another main town of Tuscany, Lucca, can be easily reached by car in half an hour or so. Finally, it is in this part of the region that Chianti is made, so it will be easy for you to book a tour to taste this excellent Italian wine. As for the village of Torre di Badia, it is a small beautiful town surrounded by the green hills of Tuscany; when seen from a distance, it almost looks as if it came out of a fairytale book. The ancient abbey opposite the b&b and the 1200 A.D. tower where the b&b is located are main assets of this beautiful scenery. We were also happy to find out that a couple of excellent restaurants and a bar open until late at night were at walking distance (less than a five minute walk). As for the b&b per se, and our room (Il Ghirlandaio, 1st floor, just a short staircase from the main hall), we simply loved them. The host, Francesca, is a lovely person who does her job with true passion and utmost care towards her customers. Not only does she bake some amazing cakes for breakfast (which includes homemade cakes, croissants, cereals and milk, fruit, ham and local cheese, other local products such as honey from the nearby abbey, a selection of jams, and warm drinks such as espresso, cappuccino with either milk or soy milk, etc.), but she is also very friendly and really knows the area, so she was able to answer all of our questions and give us the best hints to enjoy our trip. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable, it had the highest ceilings we have ever seen in our lives in a private accommodation, equipped with A/C, and full of light. We also loved the ensuite bathroom which was huge and the separated W.C./wash basin area (located in a small area adjacent to the main bathroom, but always within the room). The solid wooden furniture really added to the suggestive atmosphere and the stone walls of the ancient tower. We loved the furniture around the house, the lounge area just outside of our room with a table to play chess overlooking the beautiful green countryside around us, the comfortable sofas, the outdoor seating areas in the garden and on the terrace just outside the breakfast room. Highly recommended, we'll be back for sure.
