We thought it would be nice to grab lunch in the harbor area- it was a bit chilly so we chose this place because we could sit inside. We went on a Friday about 1:15 so the latter part of the lunch hour. They were busy and told us it might be a 15 minute wait. OK... This is an order-at-the-counter and pick-up-at-the-counter sort of place.
Our order was one cod fish and chips, one medium chowder, one seafood salad, and one single serving size of a Sutter Home white wine (they offered two colors of wine - LOL). The total was $49!! We thought, well maybe this will be really good.
First, the wait was more like 25 minutes. This was an issue as we had an appointment and clearly were going to have to eat quickly. Yes, they were busy, but certainly not such that there is any excuse for an order to take that long- especially in a counter-serve fast food sort of setup.
We sat and waited- and it finally dawned on me that they should at least be able to serve my wife's wine. I got to the counter and asked, and she handed me the mini-bottle. I had to ask for a "glass" to put it in- which was a large soft drink wax-lined paper cup. Ugh.
The food eventually came to the counter and we set about eating it. My wife liked her salad (served in a plastic to-go box- likely made ahead of time!)- it had micro shrimp and some crabmeat on it. The chowder was OK, but nothing to write home about. Clearly, the "broth" was made from a white sauce (flour and butter) and did not have any cream in it. The clams were tiny bits of chopped clams. For what it was, it tasted "OK" but it was really no better than Mo's which I would never order by choice.
But the gag-me-with-a-spoon part came with my fish and chips. a) I asked if there were any substitutions for the fries and the answer was no. So they were going to go to waste no matter what. They serve the fries that are rolled in potato flour and the texture and doneness were normal. b) The breaded cod was inedible! The cod pieces were about the size and shape of sea scallops. The breading was thick and doughy, forming a "jacket" around the cod (see picture). After one taste I then tried peeling the breading off (I LOVE breaded seafood BYW) and just eat the cod. It was dry and stringy to the point of being difficult to chew. The second photo shows how much "food" I left behind- and I HATE wasting food.
Bottom line- never again. Terrible service, food served only in to-go containers with plastic utensils, and $49 for a lunch. For us, $49 is a nice dinner with drinks at a Thai restaurant here in Eugene. Deeply disappointed.
