Bangalow Guesthouse is such a beautiful, historic place to stay in the Byron Hinterland. Originally established in the early 1900s, the property has been lovingly restored and now offers boutique, heritage-style accommodation across the main Queenslander homestead and a collection of private cottages and guest suits in the main house.
I was recently gifted a two night stay here, and it was such a relaxing escape for my husband and me. We stayed in one of the private cottages and it was incredibly peaceful and quiet. There is guest parking on site, and the main house is open for everyone staying on the property. It has a shared kitchen, tea and coffee facilities, a stove, and everything you might need if you feel like cooking or relaxing outside your room.
Our cottage had high-speed internet, so at the end of a long day we connected our Fire Stick to the TV and watched movies in bed. In the mornings, we loved having coffee out on the deck, listening to the birds. The room had air-conditioning, a small fridge, fresh plunge coffee, tea, milk, and beautiful spa-style hair and shower products. Everything was extremely clean, and the bed, linen, and pillows felt so lush and comfortable.
One thing I noticed were the bats outside the property, they might be loud for some people, but honestly, it didn’t bother me at all. It was still far quieter than the trains and construction noise I hear daily living in the city! The gardens are gorgeous, and the whole property feels calm, green, and incredibly relaxing.
The only thing I wish is that check-out was a little later, as 10am can feel rushed when you’re trying to savour a slow morning. Other accommodations we’ve stayed in often offer 11am or 12pm check-outs. Check-in is from 2pm.
Other than that small detail, I highly recommend Bangalow Guesthouse. It’s a peaceful, elegant retreat and we would absolutely love to come back for a longer stay next time.
