Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI)

We visited the Bangladesh Tea Research Institute mainly for educational purposes. The institute provides valuable information about tea cultivation, research, and the development of the tea industry in Bangladesh. From an academic point of view, it is informative and helpful for students who want to learn about tea production and research activities. However, as a tourist spot, we did not find it very enjoyable.

Every thing still working. A lovely area of great beauty with warm and friendly people. The area is scenic and life is slow paced. This is ideally suited to relaxing. Activities are limited and should be planned to maximise any trips here.

The Pakistan Tea Board, in 1957 established a tea research station in East Pakistan. After the Independence of Bangladesh the station was upgraded to a research institute by the government of Bangladesh in 1973. This organization has been doing research to find new species of tea.

The Bangladesh Tea Research Institute (BTRI) isn’t a commercial estate, but rather the scientific headquarters of Bangladeshi tea production. New strains of tea and new growing techniques are tried out here, and the staff are knowledgeable. With a bit of luck, you may be allowed to visit the factory and also be ushered into the tea-tasting room. They’re not used to having walk-in visitors, so phone ahead if you can and hope a friendly officer answers your call.

BTRI or Bangladesh tea research institute is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Sreemangal. Many people comes here to get in touch with nature. The institute is quite clean and tidy. The tea gardens are also beautiful. There are mosque and tea shop. The authority should keep the natural environment more vivid to make sure more people visited the place including foreigners.

The only tea research institute of Bangladesh, established in 28th February, 1957. It has 8 research units working relentlessly to invent sustainable, disaster resilient new varieties of tea plant. It has successfully cloned 20 varieties and invented 5 high yielding varieties of tea plant. Highly recommended place for the students and Soil scientists, Botanists and environmentalists. *** Gardens and Premises are Open for few times subject to permission from authority.
