Where to Taste Tasmania's Wine and Food From Launceston to Hobart

"A farm-centric cellar door on the weather-beaten Forestier Peninsula run by a fifth-generation farmer who planted vines as the climate shifted; the setting supports expansive farmland stewardship and offers tasty, farm-to-table meals paired with sparkling wines like a Late Disgorged Blanc de Blanc that blends appley snap and creaminess." - Betsy Andrews

We thoroughly had a fantastic experience at Bangor Vineyard Shed with the lazy lunch experience. We first enjoyed the Black wine tasting and entrees to compliment with the combined in-depth history lesson. The guy serving is, sorry can't remember your name, was amazing. He was very knowledgeable in both the history of the area, but also of the wines and local produce within the area. He really made our experience to be amazing. All the wine we tasted was so good. We ended up signing up to the wine club and shipped 10 bottles of wine home. The food was delicious, both the entrees with our wine tasting, but the lunch itself. To top it all off, is the views. A great day out and well worth a stop to visit.

Bangor is a long standing vineyard just off Arthur Hwy at Dunalley. They have wine tasting and a highly regarded restaurant and are open from 10am to 5pm daily. We stopped by in route to Port Arthur recently and enjoyed tasting some of the Bangor wines which were generally all quite good. Ended up purchasing a bottle of the Pinot Noir and Riesling which we enjoyed very much with dinners prepared during ensuing evenings. These were some of our favourite wines found during our two week trip around Tasmania. Would gladly return to Bangor to pick up several bottles next time around.

Great atmosphere with it's amazing landscape. Wine tasting was educational with a full history lesson of the vineyard and winery. Food was amazing. Excellent experience

An excellent dining experience in a lovely part of country Tasmania. The view from the dining room is amazing and the excellent reasonably priced food made this a truly perfect afternoon. We enjoyed Tasmanian oysters, quail and some excellent wine. The Pinot noir was particularly nice. The menu is well considered, with excellent wine pairing suggestions. The coffee and dessert is also very good and the gift shop and wines to buy is well worth the visit. The shop had a wine delivery deal for purchasing 6 bottles or more. If you are near here come and have lunch here.

Staff are very attentive and welcoming. However, the food menu could have a little bit more food options to choose from, and the salad on main dishes could be more than just a pile of rocket. Nevertheless, stunning views and atmosphere.

Beautiful wines, even beautiful vineyard, saw the elusive Pinot noir hanging in the vines. The wine tasting was homely and very well explained. Four ourselves a Pinot Gris for indulgence.

Thank you Greg for a very memorable experience on our Tasmanian holiday. Your knowledge about the history of Bangor was enlightening and every wine we tasted was so delicious! Coming across this incredibly beautiful vineyard on our way to Port Arthur was a pleasant surprise.

Visited in mid June ‘25. What a picturesque drive from Hobart and well worth it. Outstanding food, wine and view and even the music and don’t get me started on the lamb pie. Recommended to make the trek from Hobart - it’s worth it. No i’m not being paid for this or even know the owners and think I’m lucky if I’ve written 2 reviews on my whole life. That’s how special this place is. Bucket list stuff.

Yelp
Kate provided outstanding service for our wine tasting!! She also made our first experience trying oysters a very memorable one. She was well versed in her knowledge of the wines and provided many recommendations for the local area. We highly recommend checking out Bangor. Ask for Kate if you want an over the top experience!

Amazing views. Amazing wine. And the oysters were AWSOME! Service very slow, but they were busy. Get there early, or make a reso coz it fills up very quick.

Yelp
Travelling back from Port Arthur on a cold (8.5 degree day) and lucky enough for us we had 30mins to spare before closing time. BEST 30MINS I HAVE SPENT, we quickly ordered 1 dozen Oysters natural to have by the log fire, only to notice that there was also abalone on the menu for a mere $24 sautéed in butter and garlic. You know the saying "when in Rome" so we promptly ordered that as well. The best abalone I have had in years and it has been some years since I have had it (the prices normally scare the pants off me) Setting was amazing, views amazing and service was top notch (even if we were the only ones there) A most do for all tourists heading to Port Arthur and the Tasman Peninsula.

Yelp
This place is well situated and is has wonderful views in every direction. However, when you take 30 minutes to deliver a half dozen oysters (not the cooked variety) at a non-rush hour, you have a service issue. Worth checking out, even if you only want a coffee and cake and view. Won't have to wait long for those.

Yelp
Now this place is great. Has a great view over the bay. Pinot Grigio is the signature wine. Make sure you sample the local oysters. The cherries are also special. Just a great find on the road.

Yelp
Hello Bangor, you're beautiful. No, really. I can't take my eyes off you and all the stunning sights from your windows and that big, lovely deck of yours. Excuse me. Bangor's got wine, Bangor's got oysters, Bangor's got views, Bangor's got charm. What else do you need? I first went to Bangor earlier this month and I've already been back twice since. The gourmet wares on their shelves are way too tempting (the popcorn... stay away from the popcorn) and the staff are way too friendly (but not in a creepy way, just in a "I want to be their friend" way). It also happens that Dunalley is a perfect halfway stop between Hobart and Port Arthur, so if you're playing Historic Site tourist for the day then it's an easy stop in here either on your way down or on your way back. Don't hesitate, just come here. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We saw Bangor on the way toward Port Arthur Historic Site and said...hmmm...that looks like it'd be a good stop. So on our way back we did and we are so glad we made the choice to do so! You enter into a very welcoming, friendly environ with staff that are happy to tell you about their fresh albeit slightly cliche "bourgeois/organicy/hip-liberal" feeling winery/cafe/bistro. Once I got over the slight cliche, I enjoyed the mod/clean-line ambiance with amazing views. A friendly male (middle aged, tall curly haired fellow) from Western Australia introduced us to the body of wines and through a tasting. He also put in our order for oysters and a pasta with lamb tomato sauce. The wines were strong overall and he was quite helpful with information about them. I am not a big pinot grigio person but that was one of the best I've had if you are into whites. It is too bad they don't give you more reds to taste besides their own very good pinot noir and one of a neighboring winery, but we chose to then have a bottle of their very strong pinot. The oysters were incredibly fresh and the lamb pasta dish was strong. We also got some very fresh bread and olive oil. All was great and the views are priceless with comfy seating. This is a solid visiting post particularly if you are coming to/from Port Arthur. Definitely make this stop!
