The restaurant is tastefully decorated and the staff very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately the food wasn’t to the standard I would expect for the price we paid. The steak although it tasted good was very chewy and the fish and chips quite greasy. My husband’s dessert was served on a massive plate but was tiny, the sides broken and only half a scoop of ice cream with it. Needless to say, we won’t be returning.

Easy to book online. Stayed in the beautiful Purfleet room. Very quiet. One tiny criticism & that is the grouting round the bath could do with replacing. |No parking but we used the JustPark app to park the car a couple of minutes walk away. The hotel does have a 20-minute unloading bay which we used before moving the car to its overnight location. |Excellent, hearty breakfast. |Would definitely recommend.

My sister had her wedding reception here, we had a cream tea post-ceremony. The spread was lovely, we were offered prosecco, juices and had (of course) cups of tea in the afternoon. They had a selection of finger sandwiches, small cakes and scones with butter and jam. They also accomodated for one member of the party who was vegan. The staff were lovely, attentive and present and dealt with all our requests (high chair, boxes, more glasses) quickly and with care. I didn't stay in the hotel but everything they provided was high quality and I would use them again.

I have been to this LOVELY place twice. I came back for dinner today after work and I’ve had a cranberry gin mocktail alongside the BEST fish and chips and a delicious affogato as dessert. The service was great and the food amazing and delicious as usual. I would highly recommend it! the location is also fantastic and I can’t wait to come back. Staff was lovely and kind too, very rare in places like London so very pleasant experience. ☺️ Thanks a lot!

This is a review of the restaurant. Staff were very helpful with food allergies, particularly lactose intolerance. Excellent food and very good service. It was a very quiet Sunday eveninf, we really enjoyed the peace and quiet on a summer evening in June. Excellent tour of the property by the manager.

On arrival you enter the bar area and staff have to guide you through the full length of the hotel lounge and restaurant to be checked in. Not a great welcome experience for either traveller or clientele already seated in the bar and lounge area. Something for management to consider perhaps?|No A/C in the entire building and the heat throughout is stifling in the summer. No windows open on the g/floor, so unpleasant to comfortably enjoy a beverage|Our room (Captain) was equipped with an old and poorly operating oscillating fan in the month of July in 70% humidity… couldn’t feel so much as a gentle blow!|Room windows that were filthy both inside and out and so very cumbersome to open, so we had to contact the staff.|A tricky/sticky door lock with old fashioned key entry – again had to call the staff to assist! The overhead light above the bedroom door not working and also brought to staff attention.|Bedroom windows which look onto a beer garden and public walk-way beyond with no louvers or netting so zero privacy without fully drawing the curtains! I cannot imagine anyone using the roll top bath for this reason|Spider in the shower enclosure|Heat emanating from the bathroom that was stifling despite the heated towel rail not being on – go figure. The extraction was not working, so steam didn’t clear from use of the shower|Bathroom door that rattled all night despite being fully shut. |Towels placed on the bed. This is a Hotel Inspector no-no. Towels must always be found in the bathroom|In room Tea/Coffee making facility… only a single English Breakfast teabag for a 2 person stay!!|Unable to find the WiFi code in the room literature||All in all a poor performance from this establishment, which was a shame because with a few minor and inexpensive improvements it could be vastly better experience and higher rating.

The room was large airy and very comfortable with a lovely view. Could do with a luggage rack, though. The meal was not so good, hence the four stars. Several items on the menu , wine and food, were not available and the substitutes, especially soup, unsatisfactory. The cod was good but the so-called fish chowder that accompanied it had seen no fish and was basically a white sauce. Having said that my partner's choices were ok.

We loved our one night stay in the King's room. It's a large room with character, high ceilings and a huge bay window. We had everything we needed, a good drinks tray, nice toiletries and the room was warm and comfortable. |We slept well and enjoyed our breakfast the next morning, where there was a good selection of hot food, although the cold buffet was limited. We chose a full English and a full veggie breakfast and both were very good. |All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. |The hotel is well located and great value for money.

Yelp
An impressive hotel restaurant/bar, with a very good menu choice -- not massive, but broad in scope. The service was relaxed, friendly and efficient, and the surroundings are picturesque, sitting as the Hotel does on the Staithe looking out over the Wash. I went here at the same time as Miriam M, and was very pleased with the food quality too. I ended up having scampi and chips, which were well-presented, piping hot and very tasty indeed, along with the focaccia and mezze as a shared starter. The fact that it can deal with a wide range of cuisine very well serves in its favour -- and I certainly intend to go back and investigate the slightly more interesting (and less pub-grub sounding!) parts of the menu in the future!

Yelp
Lovely location by the River Ouse in a building dating back to the late 1700s which is right opposite the dry dock and custom house. Varied menu from local seafood (the mixed sharing platter is sizeable and was supposedly amazing), through Italian, through traditional British cuisine. A number of vegetarian options to choose from and the wine is well priced. Service non-fussy but attentive. Large outdoor terrace to the rear for smokers or for eating in nice weather. All in all a great dining experience and better than 99% of the restaurants in London that go around claiming to be the nuts!

Yelp
There was only one weakness. The tea was twinings, and under normal circumstances this would be perfectly acceptable, but for a place as exceptional as this, one of Imperial Teas blends would have been a far better match for the well balanced palate presented by the foods on offer over the course of a leisurely lunch. Starters were foccacia and Mezze, simple, elegantly presented and thoroughly delicious. It was the Gnocchi that got the fifth star sealed. In all my years of eating out I have wanted to like gnocchi. I have wanted to like the fluffy little parcels and their interesting sauces, the fun presentations, but somehow they always, even in a 5* restaurant in Verona, fell shorter than napoleon in a wine press. Not this time. This time the herb sauce delicately touched the taste buds, making the gnocchi feel divine. The cod was crispy, beautifully done and tasting fresh and firm. The dessert menu demanded at least six people so that one could share the delights on offer. The pavlova put to shame every attempt I have tasted in London to emulate the dish. Somehow, tucked in a corner of King's Lynn, there is a gastronomic destination that is putting some of the best eateries in London to shame. It's not the fat duck. It's not innovating in that way. What it is doing is taking the finest ingredients available locally, and serving them in ways that delight the senses. It's just a shame about the tea.
